Coronation finish (5/6):

So, when I last left off it was Saturday afternoon May 6th and I was still in shock from getting the "Glory of Atenveldt" and hungry, so court ended and we got lunch at the kiosk on the lawn. Got a lovely picture of me, Duchess Deborah and [personal profile] lferion which I need to get  copy.  Got fed and then things taken care of before we headed into court. Ari and I had been doing our standard "untangle yarn at coronation" schtick.  Her Ravenclaw socks were being persnickety.  We had lots of people just agog at our efforts to not cut the yarn.  We got about 85 % done by the time the second court finished.  Now back to my previous post...I knew things were happening...and it was a waiting game while our new to Atenveldt Majesties (they'd reigned many times in Meridies). They did a play which was funny and having Count Dennis of the Titan's being the "voice of tradition" for Atenveldt was a really nice way.   So the big finale of the coronation court was them calling up the pelicans and speaking about service etc, and keeping with the schtick from earlier HRM Amber (a member of the Laurelate) talked about art and how people can do both service and art and called up the Laurels.  I sallied up to the front of the area and purposely did not look to where I knew the candidate was...since I'd known this was coming.  They called up my wonderful apprentices husband Domnall (Domegnev) and the crowd went wild.  He was a bit thunderstruck. His knight, [livejournal.com profile] americanknight was ecstatic.    Yay!!!!!

So we know what the summer work will be since he will be answering the offer in Sept.  Research has shown that the last time a laurel/pel was given was to Aaron Swiftrunner (former Society Seneschal) whom I know quite well from my time as seneschal the first time during the embezzlement fiasco.  So that is cool.  He deserves it and the household is also just happy as clams.  There was some drama where they forgot to call out Asa as a Duchess of Atenveldt and they never thanked Ari for her service as Signet before I took over.  The Kingdom herald took to FB to "fix" that but seriously.  That was lame.

Sunday was another busy day where Sam and I got the signet case all reorganized and sorted withteh 40+ scrolls that got turned in by Twin Moons. I sat and chatted with people and watched teh tourneys and it was nice.  Mel and 7 other guys made it to the king's champion finals and they realized that they all were going to different events and they had the "hateful 8" for the champions. Morgan was the true victor but they all are going to be a rotating stock of Champions.  So Monday at scriptorium Poe designed a hyrda with the heads of each of the winners.  She got them laminated for badges for them to wear.  Its cool.

The weekend after coronation I was running Baronial A&S in BTY.  There were issues with the site that made a few things annoying but all in all it went well. We got things to look really nice and there was good art on display.  I put on like 13-14k steps that day and was dog tired when I was done.  Hrafnheim won the household championship again. Ivan won the Championship even though he didn't enter. They basically talked with everyone (but him, he was off site dropping boy off at a party) and missed them asking him.  Lol.  But its all good.  We had a nice turnout but not spectacular. The smoked chicken we did was a big hit with Ari's curry.

Work has been nuts. Lots of OT and me not having the time to work the OT. Sighs.  The weekend after A&S Mel went to San Diego with Paul for a kung fu thing.  I coped wth being a single parent but did some work around the house etc.  The following weekend (memorial day) was PHXCC.

There is a lot to say about that con.  There was a lot of stupid, There was a lot of awesome but we did have fun.  Dick Van Dyke, The voices of Batman the Animated Series, Alan Tydk and John De Lancie were faboo.

The album of Con

Ari won the con with Jim Butcher freaking the heck out over her Mab.  I got stopped a lot in my Lolita which was great. And I painted on things at the SCA booth while stuff was going on for the demo portions.

This past weekend (Jun3/4) was the kingdom collegium and I took 2 classes and then sat around both days and painted scrolls.  TRM are big on giving things out and I'd done 4 pieces of calligraphy that week alone and I've been behind on on things and just wanted to finally finish something.  So the scroll I had low lighted at the con I managed to finish completely on Saturday and then started another one.

So, now I need to finish a knit hat and 2 tunics and then I can really start work on TRM clothing and Dom's scroll.

Managed to do some relaxing, some antiquing, some adulting, some parenting, some knitting, some spinning and heading out to the fair. Not too shabby.

I got a new to me spinning chair:
My new spinning chair. British made. It was bought in 1962. We are pretty sure it was made well before then. #spinning #fiberart #woodworking

Mel and I hit a newer antique mall and had a good time. Got Benton from school and had a nice Friday night. I may have had too many margaritas.

Saturday I relaxed while the boys went to the dojo and then we headed to the Pima County Fair again to do rides and carnival stuff as well as the exhibitors hall. I bought shoes...at the fair but how could I not?
I liked them so much I ordered another pair in blues. #shoes I also ordered them in blue....

We got home and had a nice evening in. Sunday dawned at 345 in the morning with Benton falling head first off of his bunk into his trash can. I stayed up with him until he could sleep which was about 5am. He's okay, a bit bruised and reminded of why you need to put your head at the head of your bed. He had flipped around and slid down the opening at the ladder. Sighs. At 6am the cat broke int the bedroom, at 630 mel got up for Black belt testing for the dojo and mercifully I and teh boy slept in until about 830am. I was still zonked though and I managed clean up my library corner of books, patterns, yarn etc. I tidyied everything and now its useable as space. I also got out things for projects since Saturday night I finished my Darth Rainbow socks.

Finished! #operationsockdrawer #smoothoperator #knittersofinstagram

Mel got home at 345. Icka was over chatting since I found her something cool while shopping friday. I ran errands and then was home to cook dinner and then to work for a while before setting my spinning wheel back up to spin some fiber while we watched a movie.

All in all an okay weekend....wish I had more done but it was nice none the less.

In the midst of lots of calligraphy, gym time and OT I finally finished my Birthday socks. They even have the kitten paw of approval.

Kitten approved #operationsockdrawer #ravelry

My Birthday socks are done! Before my birthday. DH bought the yarn for me for my last bday. Serenity Glitter sock in San Diego colorway #socks #operationsockdrawer #ravelry

I started these back in august but well....things got slowed down by life. Next up is my rainbow socks where I'm on the second sock foot...maybe I can finish them by my birthday too. They are self striping yarn and have an afterthought heel so we shall see.

My Weekend

Jan. 23rd, 2017 12:25 pm
ianuk: (Default)
Friday was errands, pampering and hanging out with my apprentice for boozy brunch before working from home for a while. This was most of my weekend...do things and then work for a while.

I finished my kitten hat for the march on Friday night and got my phone finally upgraded to the new OS! Yay!

I slept fitfully since I was worried that things would not go nice and the worst case scenarios where in full force in my dreams but that was no issue.

The march was inspiring and cold and hot and inspiring and I was tuckered when I got home but I worked....Benton was beside himself that I could not be his world but he settled down once I finished and he got to watch some tv with me. (grin)

After he was in bed I pulled out my armor bag and checked through and found all of my stuff and got things packed up for the next day. We even taped up a new sword which was awesome. I was nervous when I went to bed but was so tired from the night befores poor sleep that I crashed hard.

We got Ben off to Mary and Andrew's for the day and got to site to find the event already in full swing. They had moved the event start time up but had only posted it to FB. Never cross posted it to anywhere. le sigh. I talked with the social media office and stated that was unacceptable. We didn't miss anything other than a drive by court barony but still. If I'd known things were going earlier I would have gotten us up there on time. le Sigh especially since I had the scrolls for the event.

But I got myself settled with scrolls and got my fighting card situation settled (I could not find mine) and then got armored up. To say I was nervous was an understatement but I got in and got myself insinuated into the line and things just fell right into place. Seriously, fell right back and I had no issues where I felt tired until much later in the day. Yay for working lungs! Got some nice compliments, helped teach some new fighters how to take and receive charges and just had fun. Seriously, it was so good to get back into things. Got lots of compliments from folks who were really glad to see me back and some from folks who didn't know I fought heavy. But that is to be expected that there is a short generation of fighters who have never seen me take the field. Sad but true. 3 years is a long time away. But I did it, I did it well and I'm still grinning even though I'm beat to hell.

We finished up with final court, loaded things up (I got shiny new scrolls for the case!) and then before we got to the interstate Mel noticed a 5 guys and we decided to stop there for dinner. This was the best plan. I did not realize how hungry I was and I was on fumes. Our plan to wait till Culvers in Casa Grande would have been a very bad idea.

Got to pick up Ben just before 7pm and then home to unload, get the boy bathed and then get settled in for the night. I'm not ashamed to admit I was in bed by 930pm.

Friday was getting the old futon we cleaned out of the house to my coworker for his daughters sewing room. woot! We did a bit of shopping and then home to play with a new standing lamp. Which did not fit where we wanted but I move a few more of them around and it worked in another place.

Then I was busy around the house picking stuff up and putting things away etc and doing I'm not sure what. Honestly I can' t remember but I didn't sit down much and I was running around the house a lot and also working on a crochet project. Mel was busy in the shop but went to get Ben, I hit costco for things we needed for the weekend and then it was home for left overs for dinner. Ben had had a really good week and we watched some tv.

Mel and I sat up way too late watching Young Justice but that was okay. I got up at just before 6 and packed the car to head to 12th night, got Domnall and then headed to Ari's. We packed things in her car and were on the road to the event on the NW side of Phx. We arrived at 930am and kibitzed with people. It was cooler than I expected but snuggled up in my Hrafn cloak it was all good. Domnall got troll setup and Ari (dressed as the White Witch from Narnia) went to Laurel's circle. I worked on the crochet project and got to a point where I realized the stuffing was in another bag in the car so I pulled out a knitting project. The "men" were confused by me switching projects mid-circle. Sorry guys gotta keep my hands busy. But it was a good circle and there was laughter and mirth and some good discussions. Got done and then handled some good arts business with the Kingdom MOAS. She got the taste of stern but helpful peer. And got the Hrafnheim/BTY laurelate opinion on the competitions and what we need to do to fix them which is dust off and nuke from orbit and try again in a few years after we've gotten folks into making things and have a good time.

Got to sit court and eat a wonderful spread that Ari and I brought. Took care of Dom since he was stuck at Troll and chatted with [profile] public_shaylan and Bran. Good times. Throughout all of the afternoon I chatted with folks and worked on the crochet project which I finished. A cute bunny for Baby Cora Jade.

Bunny!

The pattern is fiddly but I like it. Then I worked on the baby hat which is the Moochi by Woolywormhead for another baby, Miss Virginia Anne. We left about the time they were going to start serving feast and headed to Uncle Bear's Brewery for booze and noms. So tasty.

We got home just about 10pm and I got home, unloaded, unloaded the cooler and then immediately took a shower and then parafin waxed my hands. Mel's been restoring his early 1800s Canadian Production Wheel and its a lot of hand scraping to get the old finishes off and well, I've been crocheting or knitting too much so yes, hands better. And then I collapsed into bed. Mel was amused but understood me being tired.

We got up early again the next day for war practice/polling. I woke up poorly but drugs and coffee helped that tremendously. Got to the event with more coffee and donuts for the household and then sat at court working on my knitting and then chatting with Mistress Cecilia in our tent for hours with other folks in the house. Benton was good and played around the tent or on the play ground with other kids. I finished the one hat and cast on another in the same pattern for another baby (as of yet unknown name/gender and still in uetero with their mama). But the first hat is cute and it needs a wash and block.

Moochi for Virginia

Polling was good and then it was the long slog for the knights circle to then have court. Sighs. The household packed everything up (we only had 2 men (a squire and a man at arms) and the ladies of the house did everything else. Sighs. But things were in the van minus the few benches we needed for evening court. Court ended a while later and Benton and I quickly jetted for home. I was done and tired and just wanted to not be outside. I was annoyed about a few things but oh well. Chatting with my apprentice made tings better.

Dinner was the most amazeballs pork ribs. That morning I had gotten the roaster out, poured in 2 bottles of Guinness and the then liberally applied Montreal Steak Seasoning and Garlic powder. I set the temperature to 275°F and we left for the day. I turned it off at 6pm. OMG! soo good. Mel had made some ramen the day before and we had a simple dinner of ramen and ribs. So good. Seriously. We are making that again.

Yesterday I finally made it back to the gym. I decided leg day was where the year needed to start and I did good. Didn't do squats since the room was full but I headed off to the leg press machines and switched off with another guy. Ran into some of my young engineers (we will all be at the gym at the same time Wednesday it looks like) but all good. I hit the treadmill and while I didn't over push I was amazed at how having working lungs helps with running. Seriously, my legs were pulling not my chest and that felt wonderful. Yay for a controller medicine.

I got home and Ben ahd his first Red day in a very long time. I think he was over tired from the weekend but we shall see. I had a quick bite to eat before heading to scribble where I got all of the names and did one full text for the awards for Sunday. Then I effed one up cause I tried to erase and it wasn't dry (headdesk). Then I headed (at 10pm) to Target for essentials like eggs and papertowels. le sigh but I got home and into the shower by 1045 so I call that good.

Today I'm feeling less sore than I expected but I'm sure tomorrow that will be different.

But all in all a good weekend though not doing anything I wanted to be doing like sleeping in and just hanging on the couch....oh well. I have to adult.
ianuk: (caw!)
I will be back dating some info as time permits buts my holiday was okay. We had a lazy and busy time. It was very weird. The entire family was sleeping in till at least 8am...sometimes later the entire break. Ben is growing and eating all of the time which was good but we learned not too much sugar otherwise he's a grump monster in the AM. We went roller skating with [profile] scribe_ari and the kids. Ben did great on his new from Santa skates and it was fun. Definitely need to do it some more soon. We hit the zoo and in general had a nice time.

Mel and I are almost finished watching all of Gravity Falls on Hulu.

On the making things front I made:
1) a cowl for [profile] public_shaylan
Untitled

2) Caution Orange sock for Mel, I still need to finish the second one but its at the heel gusset.
Untitled

3) Finished the minecraft creeper hat for Benton and Viktor
Untitled

4) Got the hot head torch on and made beads with [personal profile] swordmage as a gift for Wolfgrim's wife Jess which we made into a Viking Festoon.
Untitled
Untitled

5) Worked on a baby gift for little Cora Jade which I hope to finish this week/weekend.

We also managed to get new to us furniture. So in the way of last January we reorganized where we reorganized the front room. This time we reorganized the family room and the bedroom. We had intended to buy bedroom stuff but managed to buy stuff for the family room. We moved out the big dresser and the futon and the purple couch. We replaced them with a 1930s armoire, a new Ashley couch and a new to us vintage 1960s custom sofa and chair.

So this has spurred a reorganization trend and I've been throwing things out in the KonMori style and folding things small and making things better. Yay!

Thursday:
Thursday was crazy working and then leaving early to get Ben for his group therapy appointment. We were 30mins early so that meant we headed to Fabrics that Go around the corner. I got a pretty veil for me and a gift one for Baroness Brighed for her stepping down on Saturday. I got some neat sun batik for Benton and a really nice red black and white plaid. Got done and headed back to his appointment. Ben did fall in absolute love with a soft leopard print that if it hadn't been $30+ per yard I would have gotten him some.

Untitled

So Thursday is group therapy day and she has 2 sessions, younger boys and older boys. The older boys start coming in while the little guys are in session. I need to bring headphones and to sit against the wall cause boy are they loud and disruptive while I was working on drawings. We headed to Beyond Bread for dinner where Benton ate his fill. And then home for bed by 8pm. Mel's flight had been delayed and delayed and finally touched down about 1030pm and he was home by 11pm. He was tired but he got me presents of a double decker bus coffee cup and the brit version of The Cursed Child. Ben got a Brit Lion, a GB Olympics Team t-shirt and a Gruffolo book.

While I was waiting for Mel to get home I finished the cyber dread falls for the convention. Though I won't be wearing the one set with the Lolita...[livejournal.com profile] danabren is right...it looks like a jelly fish.
Untitled
Untitled

I also worked on Socks this weekend. I was inspired by finishing the Slytherin socks and pulled out Mel's Caution Socks and put a cable down the center which I'm liking.
Untitled

And I cast on 2 pairs for myself since my second set of Signature sock needles arrived. I am making a rainbow/black striped ones and a pretty sparkly set.

Friday was busy with errands, the van driverside window mechanism breaking (thank you Jack Furriers for fixing it fast!) and my hair cut/color and errands before we picked Ben up for his followup appointment about his lungs. He got put on Singluar to help with the asthma and allergies. Additionally, we made the followup appointment to get him eval'd for ADHD meds. This is a preemptive strike since the school already hit him with a referral, he gets 3 before he is suspended. Sighs. Ben did not have a good day, he hadn't the day before so when we got home and I made dinner of lamb chops, mel took all of his toys out of his room. He was not happy about that but tough cookies. He went to bed whiny but well fed. He really, really likes lamb chops. I worked on the socks friday night. I was just not into starting anything else. Though I did get to sewing the crown under dress seams so I could have hand work the next day.

Saturday we got going for Mon's Investiture. Mel was very out of it. The jet lag was catching up fiercely but he was maintaining being awake etc. Ben did good during the day playing with Mason and keeping out of trouble. I sat at the back corner of the event and let it pass by while I sewed and chatted with Ari, Jules and various other folks. I got half way through the dress during the event before I called a time to go home cause I was toast. That site makes my allergies really bad. Got home, had leftovers and a whiny kiddo. Mel didn't even get through dinner before he passed out. Ben went to bed and then had screaming terror fears from stuff he over heard on the playground. It was lots of cuddling, snuggles and signing "My Favorite Things" to get his mind off of the scary things. Sighs.

I sat and finished the dress and knit on socks until late. My left tear duct in my eye was very swollen so I took some benadryl and hot compressed it. Which means I woke up horribly drugged out. Sighs. I got coffee and breakfast before I started to feel better and then I avoided paid work to clean up my studio from the crazy cosplay frenzy for the crazy crown frenzy, cleaned up the front room from the detritus of the previous days event and got my test fabrics out for Choli sunday building with Ari.

I managed to get the neckline cut/ pinned and machine sewn with the bound edge machine sewn ready for the hand stitching on the turn as well as the racing stripes on the sleeves before I headed for errands then to Ari's. I did not find what I wanted at Kohl's but I did hit a jewelry sale (SHINY!). Then we sat and got things worked out for my choli/vest/bolero patterning. Yay! I now have a plan. My goals are Tuesday, finish the under dress for crown, Wednesday Finish the over dress for Crown, Thursday night cut out the choli/Vest/bolero and maybe sew but I'm not guaranteeing it. I may drag the sewing machine with to sew on Friday/Saturday nights but not sure. I hope to get the choli done at least before we leave. But we shall see. I may just stay up way late the next few nights and get things done. We shall see.

Work was work worky work work. I found some issues and now I have a lot of work a head of me. Oof. Luckily I need more things to do (LOL). Got done, got home and the boy had not had a good day at school and that made all of us tired. Plus a random no-sleep text from my mom made me in a further foul mood. Sighs. I ended up in bed by 10pm. I was so tired. The whole family was grumpy so nuf said.

Saturday morning I got up way before I wanted to since Mel and Ben were talking on the porch while mel got ready for his ride. Sighs. I got up though, had coffee and attempted to stay on task and get things done. Which I did, overall. But the one thing I wanted to figure out was a spectacular fail. Ooops. I made a choli and it did not fit and was not what I wanted for the Zatanna. Its not even useable for a pattern itself. Sighs. But that clouded my brain when I finished a skirt, finished putting trim on the sari, Finished a scarf and didn't kill people. It was an almost thing at the pizza place cause they were dumb. But I ate pizza drank beer and went to bed much happier than when I started.

Untitled

Mel had a productive day and finished the entertainment center. He will shellac it next weekend so we can get it installed into the house the following week. That means I have 1 piece of my parent's furniture left and that is the curio cabinet. We are looking for an antique to replace it.
Untitled
Untitled

Sunday AM mel woke up early for his flight and I snuggled in bed until Ben kept banging on my door from 630-715am. I was not happy. I told him that I would not accept that behavior and sent him to his room after he immediately threw something I told him not the throw. I left him sit there while I drank a cup of coffee and then planned the day. After that he was right as rain. We had breakfast at Prep and Pastry, did errands and came home for snacks etc. He played well, watched a movie nicely and was in general just awesome to everyone. Willa came over in the afternoon to help me cut out crown clothes. I had to do fabric kung fu and was left with a tiny bit of scrap. My under is short sleeved due to fabric but I think it will be very comfy.

Untitled
Untitled

Had a wonderful dinner with Ben and we watched more Olympics. He really liked watching the skeet earlier in the day, we watched some golf, synchronized swimming and volleyball. He got a good shower and bed shortly there after. I was tired but I sat and was watching the Olympics until the cable went out so I turned on Hulu and started watching Sleepy Hollow and finished my socks.

ianuk: (happy)
I had not realized what a big ball of stress I was leading up to the first day of Kindergarten. Wow. I felt very free and focused at work which is a change and I was happy to get done and feel like I accomplished things even though it was just electronic things that aren't tangible unless you physically print them. Only one weird setback for pickup which I need to call the school about but other than that he had a good day.

I left work and got dinner at Beyond Bread before heading to knit night. I started on my very first afterthought heel for a sock which was daunting since no one had really done them at knit night. I got things picked up but messed up one of the corners a bit but I fixed that without too much of it showing. So I have my first sox done for Ravellenics 2016 in the WIPWrestling event.

I still need to weave in ends but one sock is done and I will get the other one done this weekend in between cosplay stuff. The heel fits really well.

Untitled

And that was my night. I was focused on doing the heel and was still spinning on how to accomplish the vision in my head for the hair pieces for the lolita which [livejournal.com profile] danabren helped with this AM. So that was good.

Tonight I will try to get back on the cosplay train and get those done which will check that off of my list. So, not too shabby though not a lot to show yet.
ianuk: (walking pig)
Up until about 2pm on Sunday I was feeling like a total failure. It took Ari hitting me upside the head to tell me that just cause I wasn't working on my cosplay stuff completely 24/7, didn't mean I suck. I was making stuff and doing good and I need to shut up and color.

So, lets rewind a bit....I had things to do this weekend which involved finishing up the lolita....I only managed to shop for it...I got some trims and another yard of fabric to make more trim...but I've been thinking about it.

Thursday I went to karaoke after spinning while Ben was in the shower. I got my first bobbin of 2 ply done on the red/denim yarn.
Stage 18: first bobbin plied

Had nice time singing and having a drink before getting home about 11pm. Mel was out and had to go to work in the AM. I set my alarm and crashed. He left around 515am and when I got up at 10 to 7 there was coffee. Yay! Got Ben to school and then came home to spin. I got the second bobbin done of the plying and then started in on errands (see above purchases) before I headed to my massage and a bit of other shopping. I didn't get my toes done...they were too busy but I picked up the boy who had had an awesome day and we got muchkins and coffee at Dunkin before heading home. I sat and finished up the pieces of the cat I was working on for a baby gift and the boys played legos. I got that done and we showered and then headed out for [livejournal.com profile] swordmage's bday at Ermanos. Ben did really well though he was tuckered. Good beer, food and conversations. Got home and I was tuckered myself. I didn't have the energy to do more than stare at fabrics but I managed to pull things out of stash for more purse/project bags for D*C.

Went to bed and slept pretty horribly....not sure what is up. We got up late to head to the event but it was all okay. Things were seriously running on SCA time. We should have carpooled with Dom...lol. Ben did okay. He was tired but he ran around with the kiddos there while we judged and taught folks what a median standard means and how not to be a jackass when judging. I saw lightbulbs going off above peoples heads which was good. We finished judging and then had almost 3 hours until court....seriously. 3 hours. Sighs. This meant we had to eat in SV and then drive home to make sure Ben didn't melt down. But he did good, we had Culvers and it was tasty. I did manage to get pictures of me spinning during court and also to chat and kibitz with Caolfinn. Which was awesome.

Untitled

Got home and I started in on plying the rambouillet. It is so pretty.
Untitled.

Sunday I woke up poorly. Like the bed was on the wrong floor kind of waking up. Boy oh boy was I in a bad mood. I was a grump which was not helped by the fact that I had nothing but coffee until lunch. I had lunch and a beer and was much better. I got dinner on to cook and made spanish rice for the house hold meeting/pool party. But during the finale of this years Tour de France:
I finished my plying and then spooled everything off and organized it into this picture just as Froome crossed the line with team Sky in a can-can line.

Untitled

Left: Silk/Merino singles 22-24 wpi and 233 yards all drop spindle.
Top: 2 ply rambouillet of 160 and 236 yards in skeins, Full singles to ply during tour
Middle (little): left overs from red and another project. 17.5 yards 3ply, plied during tour
Middle: red and denim merino, 69 yards and 131 yards 2 ply, 1 oz of red spun during tour all else plied.
Bottom: Easter yarn 148 and 174 yards plied only.

Total yardage spun and plied: 1633.5 yards
Total yarn to use: 1168.5 yards

We left for the household meeting a bit late because I couldnt' find my swim suit....it was in the laundry still from the retreat...really???? Sighs.

I relaxed a lot when I chatted with Ari who hit me on the head and chatted with A'isha on hair styles for the loli. We got home and dinner was not going to be done..I should have set the cooker to high while we were gone...oops. Ben ate his lunch which he hadn't earlier in the day and I think I drank a beer for dinner while mel had chips. I wasn't hungry. Hrafnheim can cook and if you go hungry its your own damn fault. Ben had a ice cream drumstick...thus he ate dinner.

I was feeling restless and just started cleaning up my messes. I had spinning stuff everywhere in the family room and I organized it and put things away. I cleaned up the studio for use, organized the stuff I had bought, put more things away, finished the cat for Julia/Eric, cleaned off the table for cutting later in the week, pulled fabric for crown clothes and just tidied things up. It felt really good. I then sat down about 9pm, pulled up Pinterest for how to make hair bows and made 3 as test pieces for our Hydra Cheer Squad.

The Cat:
Untitled

The Bows:
Option 1
Options 2 and 3

And then I decided to finish a long lingering knitting project that just needed a hook and eye put on it.

Untitled

So, I guess I was all about finishing things that have been on my plate and are stealing my muses to work on things I need to. All good, just didn't feel up to it...Now I do.
ianuk: (here's looking at you)
Thursday AM we left for the Fiber Retreat with Ashley going for her first time. We realized about half way through the drive that mel forgot the wheel to his spinning wheel which is hilarious in so many ways. We made good time getting to the Lake Arrowhead Ranch. Arrived at 345pm and traipsed around in the cool (to us AZ folks) mountain air. I took pictures of the beautiful purple flowers near the fountain which had a neato bee hanging in it.

We helped get things setup and people moved in for merchants etc. Settled in for dinner where I poisoned myself on the salad mix (effing kale). This was the first time I'd had raw kale before and well, it makes my lips numb and my tongue and throat swell. Awesome. Sighs. I read the labels on everything else....oh well. Lesson Learned. Stayed up chatting with folks and making sure that [livejournal.com profile] cayswan got settled from her car adventure up the mountain. Got to bed and snuggled down.

We got up around 8am or so. Benton was so happy to be up and attem' with his camp buddies. Ugh. Mel and Ashley hung with the dye pots all day and I ended up sitting in on an inspiration class taught by Ester (https://www.etsy.com/shop/BelleEstoile) and it was neat. I learned to use a new app to look at colors on photographs that I find neat/inspiring and then we talked about how we would create that feeling in textiles. It was neat and not something I would have taken as a class but I was sitting in the part of the lodge where the class was working on the present for the soon to be here Baby Wortman. Its turning out uber cute!

Benton had been hanging with Meadbhb (a young Irish girl was nannying for the event) and the other kiddos. He got to go swimming, see horses, play in the dirt, play with pinecones, color etc. He had a really good time with his retreat buddies.

I spun some denim colored wool that I got from To-ply (https://www.etsy.com/shop/Toplyfiberarts) and that spun beautifully after I let it sit in timeout on Friday night. I realized that Thursday night I had plyed up some yarn and then never switched whorls. Oops. Fixed that and then it spun like a dream for 3 bobbins. I need to ply that now to make it really awesome. Got to spin 1 whole bobbin of a red as well. So pretty.

Saturday I worked on teh baby project, spun and hung out near the dye pots putting in yarn that mel won at the raffle. Yes, he won yarn since he couldn't spin any....lol. Had a great time with that. Saturday night we got an archeological talk from Barb and that was faboo.

Hit the hot tub with Mel and Ashley and we did a run down of the event. Learned a bit, enjoyed time with friends we only see once a year and were envious that Barb has our resources for documentation on a first name basis. sighs.

Sunday we got up and moving and packing things and people up. I had to help back peoples cars down the twisty drive and I hate toyotas. Seriously. Ugh. Told Lynette that next year we are just hauling her stuff down....yuck.

But we got on the road at 1030 or 1045am and were in Tucson by 630pm. Stopped at Billy and Ashley's for dinner (homemade by Billy pasties!) and watched a monsoon come in. Got home, got the boy showered and tucked into bed but he was too wound up to sleep right away. He had napped in the car which was good.

We settled into things and then headed to bed. Mel was out about 10 seconds after his light went off. He drove from Indio all the way to Tucson. I had done the Tucson to Chiracao Summit on the way out and yeah. Tiring.

Today has been okay at work except that I either left my engineer's ring off or I have lost it at work today. Not sure. Very weird.

Well, the insomnia etc has built up to a point that I'm like the walking dead.  Add to that a kiddo who is sleeping so hard that he's not waking up for the potty earlier this week its been rough to get good sleep.  My allergies are crazy and the tar from teh roof is not helping.  Cause tar is high in sulfur and other fun things.  Sighs.

I had a lot of people ask me if I was okay yesterday since I guess my bags under my eyes are epic.  oops.

Got to knit night for Jimmie's last night with us. He's taken a good job in Denver.  I will miss him and his expertise and just him in general. Such a fun guy.

Well, I've been busy at work transistioning to my new job and training my replacment.  We've had a few things blow up (not literally) and we need to keep things going.  I'm feeling at 6s and 7s on a lot of things.  I think I'm just not ready for the change and way over ready for it?  Not sure if that makes sense.  But dealing with old folks who I'd forgetten were horribly passive agressive, doing a lot of navel gazing with myself and just getting hit by too many reminders that I'm not so good on emotional intelligence and that my first responses in my head should not be what comes out of my mouth.  HEading into a new place where no one knows me is good and bad.  I have to behave per norms and get used to being "on" all of the time...course that is what I need to do normally and I forget.  Sighs.

I've done some knitting. I finished two hats. 1 is for my best bud coirker on the current program and the second is for my counterpart at a supplier who I've worked very closely with.

Friday we had a small family dinner with Ari for her bday.  It was nice and the kiddos had fun.  I ended up turning my ankle (the bad food) over completely on a curb edge and its been driving me bats ever since.  IT was find Saturday/Sunday and part of monday but Tuesday the shoes I was wearing caused me to turn it twice before I even got into work. Yesterday I braced it and it swelled way too much. Sighs.

So I have not been going to the gym but I have been watching what I've been eating..especially after a week or so of random stomach pains/ailments that left me wondering if I needed to see the doc. Its the same spot they havent' been able to figure out what is wrong the last time but I was pretty crappy for a week or so and then the ankle.

The house construction projects are almost at an end. The new porch is done and they are taking the roof off teh house today and putting the decking/insulation on today if all goes well.  I have paid for the new coolers and which will get installed next week just in time for the warmer weather which is good.

I'm still conflicted on what costumes I want to make for Dragon Con.  The house under construction and my studio piled high with Estrella laundry (that needs to be put away is all) just makes me cringe. The bedrooms are disasters but the rest of the house isn't too bad. I even demolded the master bath last weekend. I'm heading to the KWHSS in two weeks and have nothing new to wear and I'd hoped to make some thing.  Sighs.  I can scramble for a new dress I think.  We shall see.  I just need to motivate but its hard to do when you are in an emotional slump.
ianuk: (confused)
a bit distracted the last little bit. I think I'm attempting to get a cold.  BLEAH.

Made a piggy for bab Abrue who will be born on the 23rd of February.

Finished one of mel's xmas socks and I tossed it about and the fiber crewe said "Ivan is a free elf!"
I still hate the color and plan on finishing them so I can work on something I like better like the bright orange I got him. I told him they would be for Valentines Day since we will go see Deadpool.

Got a text message a bit ago from my mom.
She totaled her truck by getting rear ended on the interstate by a semi.  She was at the ER awaiting xrays when she texted me.  I immediately called and chatted with her BFF.  WIll know more soon.  She was coherent and sore. Probably whiplash and bruising.  The airbags didn't go off and the truck didn't flip (thank the gods).  If she had been in the Rav4 she'd have flipped.  So will no more soon just weird.  The semi was going 75, she was going 50 due to the conditions (black ice) and I guess didn't see her in the big navy blue chevy silverado???

UPDATE: She's fine, nothing broken just sore and probably whiplash.

Just weird week thus far...
ianuk: (here's looking at you)
Well, the holiday has come and gone and work has begun anew for the new year.

2015 was a struggle on many fronts. Many good things happened but I'm looking forward to the new year to get things resettled for myself. Take care of me and mine plus get back to happy and less stress. So in December I finished:

1)Knit Cowl for my mom
Untitled
Untitled

2) A Knit shawl for my MIL (her handspun and some alpaca/wool/silk)
Untitled
Untitled

3) Two crochet cowls (for [livejournal.com profile] scribe_ari and [livejournal.com profile] public_shaylan)
Untitled
Untitled

4) A Knitted/felted Hedgehog for [livejournal.com profile] lferion
Untitled

5) Plied some TdF2015 yarn
305 Yards
Untitled

6) Made pie, lots of meals for the holidays, lasagna, homemade cheese (won the taste competition) and more pots of coffee than I care to think about.

I also enjoyed time home with my family. I even enjoyed cleaning and starting the purge of stuff. My MIL went home with pants that don't fit me any longer and I'm not holding on to them until they do. My SCA stuff and stash will be next. Purge and organization of the house is our theme for the first part of 2016. We will be getting the roof re done, getting a wall and a new patio door and in general making our home more livable and comfortable.

I'm still working on Mel's xmas socks. I'm at the toe on one and hope to cast on the other one this weekend. I also cast on a shawl for myself that is stuck right now...I need to fix it and I have some spinning on the wheel too. I think evenings will be project orientated once again and weekends will be sewing. I need to update everything in my SCA wardrobe and Mel and Benton need more things as well. Time to look less scruffy.

I managed to finish book #10 (Hell Bent) and #11 (Stone Cold) by Devon Monk and started #12 which is House Immortal also by Devon Monk.  Its an alternate world or post apocolyptic (maybe?) USA.  Still trying to figure it out.  Its interesting though....

I finished my "No Bunnies" Shawl and blocked it last night.  Yay!

Cats like shawls.

Halloween was tiring but fun.  Ben and I carved a pumpkin, he is not a fan of the guts and we headed out with Ed/Candace (Holly & Henry), Mary/Andrew (Inara) and had a good ol' time going around Civano.  We had no trick or treaters at the house.  But a good time was had by all.

IMG_9161

Sunday Ben was grumpy and tired and we all were.  I spent way too much time shopping but oh well.

Monday I worked and then gave a STEM talk about Mechanical Engineering to a group of Middle School Girls.  I was a bit nervous about doing it but it went really well when I could tie in showing them hardware that linked into the rockets they've been working with and have some hands on show n tell with hardware I had with me.  Plus some youtube of my products doing their thing.  It was good.  One of the neat questions I got was "How many tests I failed".  I was only an average student.  I failed a few courses and "D" for done on a few but I'm still a good engineer. I had a social life in school and am really well rounded. I stress the technical/social communication/presentation skills over the math and science becuase when you work in business you need to be able to talk to a wide variety of disciplines and backgrounds.

Monday Night was lots of calligraphy to get ready for Coronation.  Me being off a week didn't help.  My business trip for next week was cancelled though so that makes Southern a bit better to handle. I still have lots to do.

I attended the YWCA Women's Conference yesterday.  I got to hear Dr. Nancy Bray, Head of the Kennedy Spaceport for NASA speak and attended 3 workshops and a luncheon where we got to hear from the 2015 Changemaker of the year Dr. Laura Banks-Reed and Dr. Dara Richardson-Heron.  Pics of my work ladies are here:

2015 YWCA Women's Conference Tucson

What the conference taught me was I'm pretty much slacking on my career.  Which I've been feeling.  There are many folks my age who are much, much further along and I'm frustrated enough with things I'm almost thinking drastic action of switching departments or leaving the company.  I hit basically tenure in January and no longer acrue any further PTO per year etc.  That would be a lot to let go of and I get a pension so, yeah. Don't want to loose that but it tempting.  So, changing things a bit now and going to work for 2016 to be a transformative year for me.  I need to follow Rule #1 at work and my goal is to dress nicer and look nicer in general.
ianuk: (crafts)
I needed to do some work this weekend and I didn't. I could not even think of facing the spreadsheet of doom after realizing that I have 3 companies measuring the same hardware and we are all using a differnt formula to solve a circle.  Sighs.  Least Squares versus Max Inscribed versus Min Circumscribed and now I need to fix the data to account for that and I'm not sure I can do that without remeasuring everything.  Sighs.  So yeah, didn't work.

Friday we cleaned house and then headed to the Apple store to get mel's phone fixed and me to get mine looked at.  His screen replacement was ready the next day and the my issue was more interesting.  My battery is expanding which is causing the screen and home button to not work.  My phone was NOT part of the battery recall but this is telling me is should have been.  At this time I'm out of warranty but AT&T had a huge discount for me 1/2 off a new 6S.  So I ordered it and it will be arriving shortly.  Got home via Little Ceasears and we had game night.

Not the most productive game night for our D&D group but man was it fun.  The comments were flying and the live tweeting was precious.

Saturday I was slow to get things done around the house. I did manage to get the studio cleanup started, dinner made and then after Ben was abed I pulled yarns and got things wound for Xmas knitting.  Sheesh do I have a lot to do.  That is okay. Handmade versus store bought is better IMHO and I'm going to try it this year.  We also finished up watching Season 2 of Arrow.  Wow. lots of things I didn't expect.  And really, John Barrowman eats up his screen time.  So nice.  Course I keep expecting Dresden to through up a fireball or something but he's just a mudane cop in this.

Sunday I was more productive and get up and worked out the shopping list.  Got groceries with Ben.  He was good until I got the cart stuck between some cars and he walked into traffic.  Sighs. All was okay but man that was scarey and I was not pleased cause he didn't listen to me to stop at a car, he just mosied to try to get to our car.  Sighs.  Got home, got groceries put away, dinner on and then I sat and read for a while while I fought with the washing machine.  SIghs.  The studio is now ready for sewing.  I have handwash drying in there now but I will get things going this week to get the Benton Sewing done. He has 1 pair of pants and a Coat left for Southern so completely doable.

I highly recommend anything by the folks who wrote Tales from the Tower including this AU of their own universe which was precious. Somewhere They Can't Find Me.  Really good.

Sunday AM was also annoying cause I got bit to crap by mosquitos while I was sleeping. My left arm (Triceps ow!) is bit to hell, hot and itchy.

We started watching Season one of Flash and will be bouncing back and forth between it and season 3 of Arrow for a bit.
ianuk: (beer)
Work is still sucky but we are all in the midst of suck and working as a team to make it better. I figured some cool things out and I have a spreadsheet to save our little chunk of the world.  I know, lame, spreadsheet foo made me excited. I'm an engineer, deal!

Willa and I entered our failed viking glass furnace and it did very well. We won our category, though we were the only entry. We did receive a 55/60 for points so I think we would have won anyway even against other competitors so that was cool.  The organization this year was a bit weird and lists of winners had errors etc but in the end I think it was a successful competition. I judged the championship and that went well too.

In other crafty news, I finished the purple socks.
Untitled

I have also been working on my "not bunnies" shawl and ran out of yarn.  Both Mel and I thought I had two balls but nope. So I pulled some left over cascade 220 out of my stash and its matching colors pretty good after a few rows.Untitled

Ben's been having better days.  We had him assessed by the school district and their only comments were he was high energy and bright.  But at least we know there is nothing wrong we hadn't already known.  Not that being high energy is wrong but we have to redirect it.

I started looking my planned to make for Xmas and seriously flipped out.  So, I guess I need to get myself organized and working on stuff. This weekend will be studio cleaning, sewing for Ben for Southern and winding yarn and planning projects. I also need to get rid of the two old carseats and get those sold as well as the stroller. Then that stuff is out of teh house.

I'm getting my fall enuii and depression.  I'm not sure what it is about this time of year but man I always feel like crap.  Add that to the I've been so tired, so sick or so busy to make it to the gym well, I'm sure that is not helping.  Next week is further screwed up since I'll have the boy at Theresa's due to school being out for Fall Break so well, we shall see.  Just frustrating cause I feel like this is all out of my control but then I realize it is in my control and its hard to take the reins to fix it.  Thus the depression lying.  Oh well. The show must go on.

My mantra will be to watch what I'm eating better. Limit the alcohol and make stuff.  I always feel better when I make things and if I can crank out some of these small projects I will feel accomplished and not so stuck in a ever ending loop of work.

Still trying to finish the treatise on Engineering in America and I started in an InCryptid novel by Seanan Macquire.  I got a load of books from Mughi last weekend to plow through.  Plus I'm also hit by a plunnie about grumpy cat, Bucky and Coulson.  Yeah.  crazy but it will get done in the wee hours this weekend I think. Its gonna be short and fluffy.  So crank it out and accomplish somethng to get it the eff out of my head.

It was inspired by this fic Wow, That's one Grumpy Cat... and the shirt I'm wearing today.  Silly but funny. I need that.
ianuk: (don't wanna)
Discussions at work state that this week has been full of mondays since Monday didn't happen due to the holiday. I completely agree.  I have hardware that isn't right, big huge review in GE next week that I keep having to update management on issues, issues with hardware in GE trying to parse out over the technical language barrier and I'm tired to boot.

Bleah.

Over the weekend I finished The Glass Magician which was nice and quaint. I really do like the magic of this world.  The last book is not at the PCL so I will have to wait.  Lent to books to Linnet.  I'm back again reading the History of Engineering in America book. I just finished a treatise on the Army Corps of Engineers and yeah, they've been effed since the beginning.  Seriously.  I'm now onto the history of Georgia Tech which has been interesting.  This book is dense and some pages have more footnotes than text but its been a good thing for my history bug.

I sat down at knit night yesterday and got working on finishing the hat for Benny I started in July.  Sighs.  Yeah.  I only had to make bunny ears but since it was differnt yarn and bigger size for him etc I had to make a few trials  plus he want multi colored ears so I basically made 4 years and sewed them together etc.

Untitled

Its uber cute and I'm happy with the way the ears stand up.  I didn't have to put anything in them to do that it was just how it was sewn.

Tonight will be cleaning house and figuring out tools for mucking with the glass furnace tomorrow.  Basically if we can't get it to melt glass this weekend we are not making the A&S deadline.  Talking with [livejournal.com profile] loosecanon our use of firebrick and the placement of the bellows are not helping.  le sigh.  So drilling more holes in adobe it is and filling it with sand to make a better heat non-diffusing surface.  Things you learn. Just wish I had learned this months ago. Oh well.
ianuk: (here's looking at you)
I got only a little bit done. Tonight will be a big slog.  Oh. well. I forgot about the shoes until bedtime when I saw them on teh floor.  Well, I will attempt to fixt them tonight and we shall see.  The polishing is mostly a necklace and my coronet so that will be small change in the long run of things.

My friend Jimmy (http://www.dreamincoloryarn.com/2015/08/21/designing-with-detail/) from knit night designed a couple of cool pieces.  They are running a special on the cashmere yarn and you get the pattern with it.  I indulged on the "Hello Dolly" colorway for the hat/cowl and got a TARDIS blue to do the 198 Yards of Heaven Shawlette (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/198-yds-of-heaven).

I worked on picking up the last gusset stitches on my sock and then on my shawl.  I chatted a lot too and got to reconnect with Cynthia who has been gone quite some time.  She's back and doing a lot better and that makes me happy.
