Thursday was crazy busy with work but I went out to dinner with Will/Dom and Benton. Serial Grillers is a fave spot for the growing boy and they had beer and I had adult company which I needed....and beer.

Friday was my day "off" where I finished up some OT in the AM, got an awesome massage, had brunch with Mel and Willa, got my hair done and then Willa and I headed to Straight to the Point to get my right ear more pierced. I've wanted to complete the spiral up my ear since I was young so I got 3 more piercings between my two bottom holes and my top cartilage piercing. The shop is amazing and Lisa Marie who did it was really nice.

Three new shinies #piercings

After that I headed home and relaxed. I've been finishing up the Cryptid novels by Seanan Macguire and got through the second to last published book.

Saturday we got up early and headed to phx for Middle East Feast since I needed to be signet and get them scrolls. Mel was special and not feeling well and Ben was un-medicated and it was an adventure to get there. We got there just in time for signing and court. Oof. Then Mel had knight's circle and I got myself setup in the shade. During court I had managed to start spinning on my new to me spindle that I bought at Estrella from Scott and Maggi. It' set to be bottom whorl and that takes me some effort to do but it worked out. I was spinning some fiber I got from my Spinzilla team.

Spinning with my new spindle. #fasterbytheday #spinning #fiberart

The afternoon was pleasant where I spoke with people and spun and then knit 2 inches on my sock during the laurel's circle where I brought up some very good and pointed points (tee hee). After that I chatted with TRH on how scrolls work in Atenveldt (they've reigned 5x in another kingdom and are learning the ropes) and then we talked clothing for their stepping down since I (and willa and Amanda) will be making it with probably some trim from Ivan. It was nice but I was so tired and the wind made things just icky for my now very sore ear. We headed home and had sonic since dinner time in phx it is impossible to get a sit down dinner without and hour wait.

Sunday I woke up and got going with running errands and then when I returned home I had a really really hard time motivating. Sighs. I got some of my studio put back to rights but other things still need to be put away or vacuum bagged and put away. I did do laundry and get most of it but t-shirts put away but again...I wasted time just sitting. I was tired and my head hurt from allergies and more holes in it. Having to force myself to sleep on my left side or my back is hard but I've been managing. So things were slow but I needed to do that since the week was crazy and busy and exhausting.

Other than that....I'm still fighting to get Ben's med's refilled and even the doc is perplexed. More phone calls forthcoming.

In the midst of lots of calligraphy, gym time and OT I finally finished my Birthday socks. They even have the kitten paw of approval.

Kitten approved #operationsockdrawer #ravelry

My Birthday socks are done! Before my birthday. DH bought the yarn for me for my last bday. Serenity Glitter sock in San Diego colorway #socks #operationsockdrawer #ravelry

I started these back in august but well....things got slowed down by life. Next up is my rainbow socks where I'm on the second sock foot...maybe I can finish them by my birthday too. They are self striping yarn and have an afterthought heel so we shall see.

The time after Estrella and now has been marred by sickness, over time and projects. Plus Ben's birthday and his spring break. I made some things....I've been working on my birthday socks and am almost to the toe decreases on the second sock. I made banners for TE Sym and Magdalen for stepping down as B&B. I've done a lot of calligraphy for SCA things. I applied to a program management training program and got accepted. I have pushed a mountain load of virtual paperwork and by June 15th I will be the lead on my program since my boss is retiring. Yeah, there is a lot there.

Pictures make things easier to understand.....

The Banners...

Ben's Bday...
Benton's 6th Birthday

I also bought myself a new thing for my bday...I'm going full hipster. I got a new turntable...I've been lacking one for almost 20 years. I'm getting a new tattoo and I'm getting more piercings....very hipster.

My early bday gift #selfcare #music #hipster

All of the projects and sickness means that my gym time has been utterly lacking but I made it back on Monday and I'm going today and dammit I'm being good on eating etc. The month of suck gave me 5 pounds back and I'm not happy about that. Time to get back to things...limit my beer, cause really that is my big weakness and I was over indulging....a lot.

This post is brought to you by booze, texting while knitting and other fun things.....

Yesterday I had asked [livejournal.com profile] scribe_ari if she was going to knit night since it had been weeks since we had been.  She had responded that no, she had to work on things for Gulf Wars. We just got back from Estrella, had scribble, where it was talk on things and recount the war. All good and needed.  Tuesday was her working on fabric and sewing planning and cleaning up spaces (its needed, clean work spaces make for more throughput) but we had not had BFF time etc....so I pouted.  I get a text on my way into work about needle sizes for socks...lol. I got a text later about little fishes for dinner and that made me pack my shit up and head out the door.  :)

We had good discussions and food during dinner and then on to knit night where we had some lively discussions. Including me getting a text stream from my apprentice and walking her away from an possible disaster of a project.  Now, some background.  Ari and I have pulled off some truly crazy things over the years (her more than me) but a lot of that comes from having a very wide range of skillsets to apply to a wide range of activities.  We can make leaps in logic/craft since we have a large base of skills to pull upon.  Folks who are not at our level (I'm not being snide here, but we do have epic level stats for some things (again, ari more than me)) do not have that range of skills so biting off a large project in a new area needs to be taken lightly.  Its good to push yourself farther than you've been before with something but maybe raise it 1 level not 4 levels in complexity. It 1) saves your sanity and 2) is more likely you will finish the project.

So, after the apprentice and i have this discussion I also tell her to "stop doing things in a vacuum" meaning its good to have craft time but honestly having a sounding board for the start of the project or during it is good.  Humans are not meant to be solitary creatures, neither are artists...talking while creating or at least having people there can be very useful for the creative process.  I know I have troubles when its just me...I'd rather read than work on something without people to chat with etc. So I need to get back to our Thursday night craft/movie night.  It will be good for her and I to do things.

So, remember if your are frustrated or have enuii on a project talk with someone....it helps.

Work has gotten a bit busy again, which is good and bad. My brain has not been up to the task of organizing this much data but I've had to put on my big girl panties and just do it. But its leaving me exhausted. I'm still a bit beat up from the previous weekend and I hit the gym hard on Wednesday and Friday. I did not woos out on my running on Friday and hit almost 2.25 miles in 35 mins. Not too shabby. Have a coworker who asked me if I wanted to do a 1/4 marathon at the end of March and well, I'm tempted. I'll be slow but it would be good I think. It will be the longest I've ever run but if I get my distances up for the next while I think 6 weeks is a good time to try it...before the dreaded milestone birthday coming up.

Anyhoo...got home, got cleaned up and changed and Mel, Benton and I met Will and Ari for dinner at the Welcome Diner (formerly ChafFins Family Restaurant). Its hipster but the food was tasty and teh drinks were good. Benton at his entire bowl of mac/cheese with bacon and I had a sample and it was good. I had shrimp and bluecorn grits. Got home and got Ben to bed and then Mel and I were both tired. We went to bed early and I slept pretty good. Ben got up early but I made sure to get him breakfast and made pancakes for the family before he and I trundled off on errands.

First we got him a hair cut which he did well with. Then I returned things to BB&B, hit Target for essentials and then picked up Obsidian's ashes. The staff had done a pawprint for us on an ornament and Ben and I were pretty sad after that. I got him ice cream (his first Blizzard) which he ate just a bit of before it went into the freezer. Icka was over for a visit when we got home and after some chit chat I managed oh so slowly to cut out 2 tunics and facings for benton, 2 tunics and facings for Mel and a dress for myself with facings. Seriously, it took hours. I know in that I was helping Benton learn to use his icord maker, I did some laundry, I checked some patterns and did a bit of ironing but still...I finished up jsut a bit after dinner and then by that point mel was going to bed. He'd been sick all week and was just done. I was not in the mood to cut anything else out or sew things like facings so I snuggled up on the couch with a beer and my knitting and watched Sherlock : The Abominable Bride. I never got to watch it. But was glad I did. Cumberbatch did a great job of being Jeremy Brett, my first love, to a tee. I loved all of it and the trippy nature of when things actually took place. So fun. It was good and I hit the hay about 1030 and snuggled in to sleep.

Sunday dawned and I again got up with Ben, got him breakfast, made coffee and tried not to be a lump. I had sewing to do and so I got myself fed, dressed and slowly sewed all 5 facings/necklines before I lost steam and headed out to do errands. I got new knee pads and things at Dick's Sporting goods. I really don't like there store and their selection is meh. They had no elbow pads or any high impact sports bras that didn't include a wire closure or underwires....seriously. sighs. Got home and Ai'sha and Lucian were over working on their bed. I started on sleeves for Benton's tunics and then it was dinner time. Mel was as tired as I was but I managed to get some laundry put away and put away everything related to sewing from the front room so we could have scribble tonight. I did manage to get the sleeves on his tunics and then sewed the pad of my thumb with the machine cause I'm an idiot. It hurts but I'm not injured.

So a few pics and a video:

Work was a lot of work all last week. I worked a lot and my next paycheck will show that. When you have a 330pm in the afternoon on a Friday change board you know things are serious. My entire team is a bit crispy but luckily the end is near for this set of packages and we can take a breather and work on the next hot list. To say I was tired at the end of Friday is mis-statement. Got done with our meetings, hit the gym and then had to reorganize our evening while on the treadmill.

Benton had had a bad week and we thought we had turned it around on Thursday. Nope, he had lied about his day so he could go to marital arts. Le Sigh. And he'd had a bad day on Friday. So he got to stay home with his dad (who was already peopled out) while Ari and I grabbed Erika for the hockey game. Note to self....go early for parking elsewhere in downtown cause you can get food and drinks earlier. We got there just in time to see Linnet and the TCDS school choir sing the national anthem and then we got food / beers and watched some fun hockey. Erika and I knit (ari forgot her knitting! Oh the horrors!) Then we headed to ice cream and the Screamery and then drinks at the Distillery. It was loud in there but they both loved the absinthe cocktails called Jezebel's Fire. This was the first time I'd been there when it was that busy but I had a G&T and had a good time. After that we headed home.

Got up on Saturday (even though it was cold and I was warm and snug in my bed thank you very much) to head to the SCA event. The College had its event and it was fun. Though I honestly hate very slow meetings...sighs. This is why I bring things to work on otherwise I get more than surly. I finished mel's orange socks:

Untitled

Then I worked on my "Birthday Socks" which I call that since they are from some luscious yarn mel got me for my birthday last year. So nummy. I had about 2inches of leg done on them and by the time we left I was in the heel flap. Got home and we got unpacked and reorientated to the modern world before heading out to dinner with the college crewe. Jessie and Jen were in town to see lil' Cora and we had dinner and drinks at Serial Grillers and then J/J came back to our place to chat and we exchanged lots of youtube awesomeness back and forth and just caught back up. Mel and I chatted before bed and we think that Ben's chemistry had changed again and were going to try to up his meds the next day to see if it made things better. I did make it through the heel though on the sock while we chatted with J/J.

Untitled

Sunday we slept in though I was awake early due to my brain being evil and it left me tired and exhausted all day. To add to that Obsidian is not doing well and this will be her last week with us. She's not eating and just snuggles with you and wants love. Sighs. I spent a chunk of the morning with her under an afghan in my lap while I read. I had lunch with Erika, Icka and Willa and then ice cream at Hub since we were downtown again. Got home and did some laundry, worked on socks while I watched Voltron with Benton. The upping the dosage seemed to work well. We are trying it again today. We had a nice dinner of turkey noodle soup and then mel and I finished up Young Justice.

Mel worked on his restoration project throughout the weekend:

Yesterday was DH's and I 21 years of being a couple anniversary. Our relationship can drink! Woot! Looking around we are still flabbergasted that we are the stable normal couple...when the heck did that happen? We also realize that we aren't normal with how our relationship works. People are still confused that on a weekly basis we don't see each other much but still make things work well.

On the finishing front here is the progress:

What I still need finish:

1) Finish Mel's orange socks

2) Darn my favorite grey sweater

3) Repair two more pairs of Mel's pants

4) Fix hem on one leg a pair of dress slacks

5) Sew button on my black dress slacks

Things I want/need to do:

1) Cast on my pussy cat hat for the march on Saturday

2) Cut out and sew crown clothes

3) Fix my armor for this weekend!!!!

4) Recover my scutum shield for this weekend

Feels good to finsih things. Looks like its going to be wet for the local women's march . I'm still going to go...but I'll just need to plan accordingly.
ianuk: (beer)
Well, in a convo with the apprentice I decided that I needed to finish things before I can start new things. This weekend I got my studio setup for sewing and the like and then pulled out items that were lingering....like mending. Seriously. I had PJ pants I started last January that just needed hems etc.

This weekend I:

1) Finished a baby hat for a shower, washed, blocked and delivered it Maleficent style.

2) Finished hems on two pairs of pj pants for mel.

3) repaired 1 pair of pj pants for mel

4) Darned my hand knit red cashmere socks

5) Darned and reinforced my hand knit wool/silk half gloves

6) Darned and reinforced two pairs of mel's hand knit socks.

What I still need finish:

1) Finish Mel's orange socks

2) Darn my favorite grey sweater

3) Repair two more pairs of Mel's pants

4) Fix hem on one leg a pair of dress slacks

5) Sew button on my black dress slacks

I posted to twitter about my busy day and most of it was work, housework, being mom, cooking and in general not trying to leave my house a disaster when I get home from work. I learned this when I was nursing that if I didn't start the bottle cleaning when I got home it was never done and I tried to do that last night by getting dishes started while I made dinner and helped Ben with homework, picked up my stuff from the front room (as I could), moved mel's stuff to his side of the bed and got laundry going as well as washing things I just made for the ladies born last month.

I then sat down and dinked around on my phone for probably 45mins versus knitting while watching tv and then finally did knit and watch the mid-season premier of AOS. Wow, that was a good episode. I really wish we could get Tony Stark to have a talk with Coulson on what sentience is and how you determine it even if it was created by a creepy as magical book. But enough of that...I'm just enjoying AOS and that is good.

So I adulted but I did get some knitting in. Hopefully I'll be motivated to finish the cleaning of the studio on Thursday so I can be sewing on the weekend or at least mending and then cutting out crown clothes.
ianuk: (crafts)
Friday was getting the old futon we cleaned out of the house to my coworker for his daughters sewing room. woot! We did a bit of shopping and then home to play with a new standing lamp. Which did not fit where we wanted but I move a few more of them around and it worked in another place.

Then I was busy around the house picking stuff up and putting things away etc and doing I'm not sure what. Honestly I can' t remember but I didn't sit down much and I was running around the house a lot and also working on a crochet project. Mel was busy in the shop but went to get Ben, I hit costco for things we needed for the weekend and then it was home for left overs for dinner. Ben had had a really good week and we watched some tv.

Mel and I sat up way too late watching Young Justice but that was okay. I got up at just before 6 and packed the car to head to 12th night, got Domnall and then headed to Ari's. We packed things in her car and were on the road to the event on the NW side of Phx. We arrived at 930am and kibitzed with people. It was cooler than I expected but snuggled up in my Hrafn cloak it was all good. Domnall got troll setup and Ari (dressed as the White Witch from Narnia) went to Laurel's circle. I worked on the crochet project and got to a point where I realized the stuffing was in another bag in the car so I pulled out a knitting project. The "men" were confused by me switching projects mid-circle. Sorry guys gotta keep my hands busy. But it was a good circle and there was laughter and mirth and some good discussions. Got done and then handled some good arts business with the Kingdom MOAS. She got the taste of stern but helpful peer. And got the Hrafnheim/BTY laurelate opinion on the competitions and what we need to do to fix them which is dust off and nuke from orbit and try again in a few years after we've gotten folks into making things and have a good time.

Got to sit court and eat a wonderful spread that Ari and I brought. Took care of Dom since he was stuck at Troll and chatted with [profile] public_shaylan and Bran. Good times. Throughout all of the afternoon I chatted with folks and worked on the crochet project which I finished. A cute bunny for Baby Cora Jade.

Bunny!

The pattern is fiddly but I like it. Then I worked on the baby hat which is the Moochi by Woolywormhead for another baby, Miss Virginia Anne. We left about the time they were going to start serving feast and headed to Uncle Bear's Brewery for booze and noms. So tasty.

We got home just about 10pm and I got home, unloaded, unloaded the cooler and then immediately took a shower and then parafin waxed my hands. Mel's been restoring his early 1800s Canadian Production Wheel and its a lot of hand scraping to get the old finishes off and well, I've been crocheting or knitting too much so yes, hands better. And then I collapsed into bed. Mel was amused but understood me being tired.

We got up early again the next day for war practice/polling. I woke up poorly but drugs and coffee helped that tremendously. Got to the event with more coffee and donuts for the household and then sat at court working on my knitting and then chatting with Mistress Cecilia in our tent for hours with other folks in the house. Benton was good and played around the tent or on the play ground with other kids. I finished the one hat and cast on another in the same pattern for another baby (as of yet unknown name/gender and still in uetero with their mama). But the first hat is cute and it needs a wash and block.

Moochi for Virginia

Polling was good and then it was the long slog for the knights circle to then have court. Sighs. The household packed everything up (we only had 2 men (a squire and a man at arms) and the ladies of the house did everything else. Sighs. But things were in the van minus the few benches we needed for evening court. Court ended a while later and Benton and I quickly jetted for home. I was done and tired and just wanted to not be outside. I was annoyed about a few things but oh well. Chatting with my apprentice made tings better.

Dinner was the most amazeballs pork ribs. That morning I had gotten the roaster out, poured in 2 bottles of Guinness and the then liberally applied Montreal Steak Seasoning and Garlic powder. I set the temperature to 275°F and we left for the day. I turned it off at 6pm. OMG! soo good. Mel had made some ramen the day before and we had a simple dinner of ramen and ribs. So good. Seriously. We are making that again.

Yesterday I finally made it back to the gym. I decided leg day was where the year needed to start and I did good. Didn't do squats since the room was full but I headed off to the leg press machines and switched off with another guy. Ran into some of my young engineers (we will all be at the gym at the same time Wednesday it looks like) but all good. I hit the treadmill and while I didn't over push I was amazed at how having working lungs helps with running. Seriously, my legs were pulling not my chest and that felt wonderful. Yay for a controller medicine.

I got home and Ben ahd his first Red day in a very long time. I think he was over tired from the weekend but we shall see. I had a quick bite to eat before heading to scribble where I got all of the names and did one full text for the awards for Sunday. Then I effed one up cause I tried to erase and it wasn't dry (headdesk). Then I headed (at 10pm) to Target for essentials like eggs and papertowels. le sigh but I got home and into the shower by 1045 so I call that good.

Today I'm feeling less sore than I expected but I'm sure tomorrow that will be different.

But all in all a good weekend though not doing anything I wanted to be doing like sleeping in and just hanging on the couch....oh well. I have to adult.
ianuk: (lazycat)
Well the first work day back was tiring. I was out of sorts and just trying to remember where I was in things. I did not do my normal "make a list" for the year end so I was a bit of a lost puppy for most of the day.

Got things settled though and that was good. I was beat when I got home with Benton. Luckily Mel had made dinner before he went to the dojo with Ben so it was an easy night for that. Got Ben fed and showered and we started on a second chapter book (Magic Tree House #2) and then I sat like a lump on the couch. I was tired. Mel stayed home from practice and we finished watching the finale to Gravity Falls. Gods I love that show. We started in on Young Justice then. I'm sad they've changed voices for Batman and Superman. Kevin Conroy is Batman in my head when I hear him speak in comics.

Tonight I'll hit knit night and hopefully finish up on something whether its mel's sock gusset or mary's baby gift. I need to stop by joanns to buy more stuffing before I go though but my plan is not not work late and make it to knit night at a good time to sit and craft. Yay!
ianuk: (caw!)
I will be back dating some info as time permits buts my holiday was okay. We had a lazy and busy time. It was very weird. The entire family was sleeping in till at least 8am...sometimes later the entire break. Ben is growing and eating all of the time which was good but we learned not too much sugar otherwise he's a grump monster in the AM. We went roller skating with [profile] scribe_ari and the kids. Ben did great on his new from Santa skates and it was fun. Definitely need to do it some more soon. We hit the zoo and in general had a nice time.

Mel and I are almost finished watching all of Gravity Falls on Hulu.

On the making things front I made:
1) a cowl for [profile] public_shaylan
Untitled

2) Caution Orange sock for Mel, I still need to finish the second one but its at the heel gusset.
Untitled

3) Finished the minecraft creeper hat for Benton and Viktor
Untitled

4) Got the hot head torch on and made beads with [personal profile] swordmage as a gift for Wolfgrim's wife Jess which we made into a Viking Festoon.
Untitled
Untitled

5) Worked on a baby gift for little Cora Jade which I hope to finish this week/weekend.

We also managed to get new to us furniture. So in the way of last January we reorganized where we reorganized the front room. This time we reorganized the family room and the bedroom. We had intended to buy bedroom stuff but managed to buy stuff for the family room. We moved out the big dresser and the futon and the purple couch. We replaced them with a 1930s armoire, a new Ashley couch and a new to us vintage 1960s custom sofa and chair.

So this has spurred a reorganization trend and I've been throwing things out in the KonMori style and folding things small and making things better. Yay!

with the help of the awesome apprentice I had sanity and conversation and sanity checks and sewing and stuff worked!

To Do List )
ianuk: (crow)
Work is still progressing...lots of paperwork and keeping hundreds of things straight and organized. I like that work but its exhausting.

Got done with work, headed to Costco and Petsmart for things we needed like cat litter and milk. Got home just at 7pm. Mel had made beef curry and that just hit the spot with me. Benton had a green day at school and I read him a cute story before bed. Then I settled in to work on the crown over dress. I put brocade/fabric trim on the bottoms of each panel and the top of just the front panel and then put in strips of tablet weaving. I made the straps but have to still attach them. Volchek and Lucian were over to work on stuff for crown and it was good to sit and listen to music while I hand sewed and then all worked on armor and regalia polishing (Mel). I got into bed about 1140 and crashed. I could have stayed up and completely finished it but I have to pull one of my other dresses to get the strap lengths correct and that was too much effort that late at night. So, here is the package all put together sans straps. And yes, my top trim is a bit tilted and I didn't notice it until it was all done and had more trim put on but with my jewelry etc I don't think anyone but me will notice. If they do I will punch them. (grin)

Crown Ensemble!

close up

Tonight after I get home with Benton from his appointment I will breakout fabric and cut out the choli and vest for Zatanna. I know I need to line the vest a bit since the fabric is stretchy but haven't quite parsed what that fabric will be. I may just have to use some ducky-bunny fabric but we shall see.
ianuk: (walking pig)
Up until about 2pm on Sunday I was feeling like a total failure. It took Ari hitting me upside the head to tell me that just cause I wasn't working on my cosplay stuff completely 24/7, didn't mean I suck. I was making stuff and doing good and I need to shut up and color.

So, lets rewind a bit....I had things to do this weekend which involved finishing up the lolita....I only managed to shop for it...I got some trims and another yard of fabric to make more trim...but I've been thinking about it.

Thursday I went to karaoke after spinning while Ben was in the shower. I got my first bobbin of 2 ply done on the red/denim yarn.
Stage 18: first bobbin plied

Had nice time singing and having a drink before getting home about 11pm. Mel was out and had to go to work in the AM. I set my alarm and crashed. He left around 515am and when I got up at 10 to 7 there was coffee. Yay! Got Ben to school and then came home to spin. I got the second bobbin done of the plying and then started in on errands (see above purchases) before I headed to my massage and a bit of other shopping. I didn't get my toes done...they were too busy but I picked up the boy who had had an awesome day and we got muchkins and coffee at Dunkin before heading home. I sat and finished up the pieces of the cat I was working on for a baby gift and the boys played legos. I got that done and we showered and then headed out for [livejournal.com profile] swordmage's bday at Ermanos. Ben did really well though he was tuckered. Good beer, food and conversations. Got home and I was tuckered myself. I didn't have the energy to do more than stare at fabrics but I managed to pull things out of stash for more purse/project bags for D*C.

Went to bed and slept pretty horribly....not sure what is up. We got up late to head to the event but it was all okay. Things were seriously running on SCA time. We should have carpooled with Dom...lol. Ben did okay. He was tired but he ran around with the kiddos there while we judged and taught folks what a median standard means and how not to be a jackass when judging. I saw lightbulbs going off above peoples heads which was good. We finished judging and then had almost 3 hours until court....seriously. 3 hours. Sighs. This meant we had to eat in SV and then drive home to make sure Ben didn't melt down. But he did good, we had Culvers and it was tasty. I did manage to get pictures of me spinning during court and also to chat and kibitz with Caolfinn. Which was awesome.

Untitled

Got home and I started in on plying the rambouillet. It is so pretty.
Untitled.

Sunday I woke up poorly. Like the bed was on the wrong floor kind of waking up. Boy oh boy was I in a bad mood. I was a grump which was not helped by the fact that I had nothing but coffee until lunch. I had lunch and a beer and was much better. I got dinner on to cook and made spanish rice for the house hold meeting/pool party. But during the finale of this years Tour de France:
I finished my plying and then spooled everything off and organized it into this picture just as Froome crossed the line with team Sky in a can-can line.

Untitled

Left: Silk/Merino singles 22-24 wpi and 233 yards all drop spindle.
Top: 2 ply rambouillet of 160 and 236 yards in skeins, Full singles to ply during tour
Middle (little): left overs from red and another project. 17.5 yards 3ply, plied during tour
Middle: red and denim merino, 69 yards and 131 yards 2 ply, 1 oz of red spun during tour all else plied.
Bottom: Easter yarn 148 and 174 yards plied only.

Total yardage spun and plied: 1633.5 yards
Total yarn to use: 1168.5 yards

We left for the household meeting a bit late because I couldnt' find my swim suit....it was in the laundry still from the retreat...really???? Sighs.

I relaxed a lot when I chatted with Ari who hit me on the head and chatted with A'isha on hair styles for the loli. We got home and dinner was not going to be done..I should have set the cooker to high while we were gone...oops. Ben ate his lunch which he hadn't earlier in the day and I think I drank a beer for dinner while mel had chips. I wasn't hungry. Hrafnheim can cook and if you go hungry its your own damn fault. Ben had a ice cream drumstick...thus he ate dinner.

I was feeling restless and just started cleaning up my messes. I had spinning stuff everywhere in the family room and I organized it and put things away. I cleaned up the studio for use, organized the stuff I had bought, put more things away, finished the cat for Julia/Eric, cleaned off the table for cutting later in the week, pulled fabric for crown clothes and just tidied things up. It felt really good. I then sat down about 9pm, pulled up Pinterest for how to make hair bows and made 3 as test pieces for our Hydra Cheer Squad.

The Bows:

Options 2 and 3

And then I decided to finish a long lingering knitting project that just needed a hook and eye put on it.

So, I guess I was all about finishing things that have been on my plate and are stealing my muses to work on things I need to. All good, just didn't feel up to it...Now I do.

So Monday I woke up and my right shoulder was aching....Then Monday night I had wicked ass knots all through it and my back. It still continues...my next scheduled massage is the 8th. So I've been massaging it myself, having DH do it, biofreezing it and coping. yeah, not my fave. I'm sure it has something to do with driving, spinning, too much crochet in the last week or I pulled something sleeping goofy. I keep waking up and my right hand is behind my head, gripping the underside of the headboard....I haven't done that since I was nursing...

Additionally, my asthma has flared but I'm not sure if its due to the muscles being goofy or the weather change? We have gotten a crap ton of rain and are currently sitting on the last day of the month with the 2nds wettest June on record in Tucson with more storms going today. My head is fuzzy from everything and all of the pressure changes. Its only supposed to be 89F today which will be chilly and the office is COLD. So cold the guys are complaining. Luckily I have a shawl.

I'm sure that is not helping the lungs at all. So we shall see. I do need to get back to the doc though since my asthma has flared and I probably need to get a scrip for a new inhaler settled. Course I need to get Ben allergy tested since he's still coughing and I'm sure he has coughing asthma like his momma. Le sigh....I had hoped he'd not get that. Unfortunately, he coughs so hard he almost pukes or does puke which is not pleasant for anyone, poor kiddo.

So, tonight will be working on the final baby gift, washing the other baby gifts and relaxing....Friday we work..le suck but I shall cope.

Work was work....I'm in the middle of some drafting mess and trying to fix things that the system has rejected. Yay fun. I was exhausted when I got to pick Ben up at the dojo....he'd had a good day and I made dinner of alaskan pollock burgers (thank you BOGO at costco) and brown sugar carrots. Ben liked the fish and the tortilla I served with it but did not like the carrots. Weird. I thought it was very tasty.

Got him a shower, texted for help to get cat litter from ashley since we were more than out...icky bathrooms are icky. Got Ben settled for bed, he read me the first page of the book we were reading (yay!) and settled myself in to watch Deadpool with Ashley and get projects done.

I managed to get Janelle's gift fully done (just needs a washing or 3) and got the gift for Brad done except for washing/felting. I'm really liking the elephant blanket. And now tonight will cast on for the ragdoll cat I'm making Julia for her podling.
Finished Presents

We were up late and my side that has been killing me (pulled/knotted muscle in the back under the shoulder blade) wasn't any better after the shower. I forced myself to sleep on it to get it to stretch out after heat/biofreeze/ibuprofen and its still stiff to day but better.

Tonight will be knit night and i'm looking forward to seeing folks.

Headed to Costco after work to pick up essentials like kiddo allergy medicine and half and half. Exciting no? I fought traffic home (cause I was dumb on my route and too tired to not follow through) and got home to relax. Read while dinner finished cooking, had dinner with the family and then sat down on the couch and did not want to move. Wander was over to drop off a new shirt for Mel which has beer stuff all over it. So cool, it will be his Friday shirt.

I read for a bit and then worked on the baby presents. Got Janelle's almost done. It just needs a trunk/2 bows. The one for Brad's baby got eyes/nose, it still needs ears and felting. I hope to finish those up tonight and then start on the one for Julia/Eric so by the end of the week everything is done and I can slam out a cowl for a supplier and then be done with gifts etc and be able to concentrate on costumes.

This weekend will be mind melding with the Ari.
ianuk: (here's looking at you)
Thursday AM we left for the Fiber Retreat with Ashley going for her first time. We realized about half way through the drive that mel forgot the wheel to his spinning wheel which is hilarious in so many ways. We made good time getting to the Lake Arrowhead Ranch. Arrived at 345pm and traipsed around in the cool (to us AZ folks) mountain air. I took pictures of the beautiful purple flowers near the fountain which had a neato bee hanging in it.

We helped get things setup and people moved in for merchants etc. Settled in for dinner where I poisoned myself on the salad mix (effing kale). This was the first time I'd had raw kale before and well, it makes my lips numb and my tongue and throat swell. Awesome. Sighs. I read the labels on everything else....oh well. Lesson Learned. Stayed up chatting with folks and making sure that [livejournal.com profile] cayswan got settled from her car adventure up the mountain. Got to bed and snuggled down.

We got up around 8am or so. Benton was so happy to be up and attem' with his camp buddies. Ugh. Mel and Ashley hung with the dye pots all day and I ended up sitting in on an inspiration class taught by Ester (https://www.etsy.com/shop/BelleEstoile) and it was neat. I learned to use a new app to look at colors on photographs that I find neat/inspiring and then we talked about how we would create that feeling in textiles. It was neat and not something I would have taken as a class but I was sitting in the part of the lodge where the class was working on the present for the soon to be here Baby Wortman. Its turning out uber cute!

Benton had been hanging with Meadbhb (a young Irish girl was nannying for the event) and the other kiddos. He got to go swimming, see horses, play in the dirt, play with pinecones, color etc. He had a really good time with his retreat buddies.

I spun some denim colored wool that I got from To-ply (https://www.etsy.com/shop/Toplyfiberarts) and that spun beautifully after I let it sit in timeout on Friday night. I realized that Thursday night I had plyed up some yarn and then never switched whorls. Oops. Fixed that and then it spun like a dream for 3 bobbins. I need to ply that now to make it really awesome. Got to spin 1 whole bobbin of a red as well. So pretty.

Saturday I worked on teh baby project, spun and hung out near the dye pots putting in yarn that mel won at the raffle. Yes, he won yarn since he couldn't spin any....lol. Had a great time with that. Saturday night we got an archeological talk from Barb and that was faboo.

Hit the hot tub with Mel and Ashley and we did a run down of the event. Learned a bit, enjoyed time with friends we only see once a year and were envious that Barb has our resources for documentation on a first name basis. sighs.

Sunday we got up and moving and packing things and people up. I had to help back peoples cars down the twisty drive and I hate toyotas. Seriously. Ugh. Told Lynette that next year we are just hauling her stuff down....yuck.

But we got on the road at 1030 or 1045am and were in Tucson by 630pm. Stopped at Billy and Ashley's for dinner (homemade by Billy pasties!) and watched a monsoon come in. Got home, got the boy showered and tucked into bed but he was too wound up to sleep right away. He had napped in the car which was good.

We settled into things and then headed to bed. Mel was out about 10 seconds after his light went off. He drove from Indio all the way to Tucson. I had done the Tucson to Chiracao Summit on the way out and yeah. Tiring.

Today has been okay at work except that I either left my engineer's ring off or I have lost it at work today. Not sure. Very weird.

Fiber Retreat 2016
ianuk: (caw!)
Recently we've noticed that Ben is confused when we use colloquial speech and phrases or idioms. I'm having to explain a lot of them which has been fun and frustrating because I'm not even sure where some of these come from. This mornings was "hold your horses" which is pretty self explanatory if you go rushing into things but to explain it to a 5 year old takes some work.

Anyhoo....just before I left for the convention I put in a large number of hours and paperwork on an engineering task I had been handed. I was given the solution and needed to implement it after testing had completed. This task had a very short turn around and I used all of my resources to do a good job. From the mechanical standpoint the job was good. From the electrical solution I was given it was probably not the best and this was pointed out to my by the production chief versus the one I had completed the task for. I had not been given all of the information to make a good full system decision. but I was also distracted by the timeline and the fact that the con was that week and that I'm trying to be a good engineer, learn things and not make any waves until I get my place in the new program.

The chief is very personable and even though I felt about an inch tall from the very very nice dressing down I felt pretty awful about it. I left work despondent and almost just went home to drink myself to bed. But I decided that with the information and distractions at hand, well, I made the best decision I could. So, meh. I went to knit night and had a nice time and then home for snuggling up on the couch with some tv and a book. I even went to bed mostly on time. My edema while better with a day of wearing compression socks is not perfect and I'm wearing more today. Hopefully by the weekend things can recover and I'm going to get more rest. DAMMNIT!

I've been doing a good job on the EI front. I have been taking that class to heart and just working on some of the strategies. There are lots of strong personalities on the new program and I'm trying not to feed the fire of egos though in this case I may have stepped back too far....oh well.

Chatted again with the chief on another issue which went really well and then brought up the issue that was not good and I apologized. He was a bit taken aback I think and was not worried about things in the way I was. His was really No Harm, No Foul since the decision wasn't completed yet and its scope now is shortened. So that made me feel good though and I'm now able to think a bit better. I had a nightmare this AM and then was stuck in a dream for too long which made my mental state this AM a bit fragile but now better. I'm still hella tired and tonight I'm going to bed early and sleeping until late cause damn.

My A&S projects are progressing so I just need to slam out the docs tomorrow in first draft form and finish the first hat. Plus cleaning of studio from the con mess and getting back to some sewing after A&S is done. A clean studio will make that easier and honestly its not too bad. I just have stuff I packed spreadout and a few bins need to get put back. All good.
