Barbarians Challenge Wrap up

The drive up the mountain was good...minus the almost pasting of us upside the mountain by an empty asphalt truck. Seriously, was cruising around a corner at 25 mph to come bumper to side with a truck. I had to back up for him to complete his turn and not paste me. Got to sight to a tent that was already set up...yeah! Got unpacked pretty quick and was greeted by lots of folks. Got dressed, had dinner, chatted with Jakob and Darine while I warped up the loom and then hung around the fire for quite a while. Went to bed about 12:30am and couldn't sleep.

I was too cold which was weird since it wasnt that cold. Mel came to bed at 2am and I finally got warm. 230 I heard something in the pavillion...something is licking in the trash bag in the door. I ask mel "what is that"...sleepily he responds with "its the cats..." I say "we're camping...can't be." Turning on the light we discover a skunk in our pavillion. he'd skirted into the front door and was dining on our trash. I huddle under the blankets while mel tries to talk the skunk out of the pavillion. Mel is ignored as it cruises around the tent for 5 mins..including under out bed (thank god we were brought it!)...it finally got out the back door and was gone. I'm freaked and awake again about 4am to something rustlingin the food bag. Mel hears it too but doesn't see anything until a little mouse pops out of the bag and crawls out. I got up and headed to the priv and when I got back we barricaded the doors with the kitchen box and cooler. nothing was getting in unless they wanted to dig.

Slept until 7:30 and got going on making coffee and breakfast...walking out side I see tripods of sticks with skeletons hanging off of them...weird but interesting. The barbarians wanted us off the land. Had a good breakfast and were uber happy when Blarr and Jules arrived. They got settled and we had court almost on time at 11am. After that we had up hill fighting bandits and gold cart style and then a 3 tier bear pit. Mel managed to hit my in the leg..exactly where I was hit at practice. Tears came to my eyes but I kept fighting. I didn't come in last and Sean won the bandit scenario and Mel won the bear pit. Everyone but me was having issues with the 10k feet. Guess asthma is a good thing when dealing with altitude. Got redresses and sat and wove while watching the "Don't shoot the Baroness" archery tourney. Unfortunately, some of my populace, including a knight, managed to hit me with an arrow (well, a cardboard body double of me). Their punishment was that they had to entertain us during feast. Feast was awesome...non period but very, very delicious. Brisket, chicken and grilled sweet corn. yummy. The sky tried to drizzle which sent many to get coats (us included) but the fire was nice. We all hung around it till almost midnight. genkadin and mel decided that they were gonna try some A&S and built up the fire to melt glass. It was fun...though we needed to sets of tongs. Got to bed and I didn't sleep very well...kept waking up.

I was awake again at 7:30 and got coffee and breakfast going. I think I have the coffee press operation down..I just need to pour the hot water in and ignore it for a while. That helps. We held a very short court and then got things going for packing up. I think almost everyone was coming down the mountain by noon except tealu. The drive down the mountain got me carsick and I had to make an effort not to hurl. 5k feet of drop, too hot inside the truck and a full bladder were not good. Got to Wilcox at the truck stop and was feeling much better. Ate some buffet and chatted with Sean, Nikian and Senach (their waitress was a ditz, ours was not). Got home about 3pm and I crashed on the carpet..hard. Mel was unpacking the truck while I slept. I guess richard was over too at some point. I was out cold. Got up, showered and then lazed about for a while. Cleaned the house up so all I have to do today is dust, bathrooms and vacuum before scribble and then started in on making beads. I made about 11 beads before me tank got too cold. I cleaned up the mandrels from last week and cleaned the 20 beads I had made then. I'm gonna be making lots of beads for a while. I want to make sure to have nice things in the gift baskets for pennsic. Went to bed and slept okay..kept waking up but that was okay...I knew we didn't have any non normal wildlife.

sounds like fun. poor archers...we get so confused when told NOT to hit something. (me, the only time i'm likely to hit something is if i'm told not to hit it.) ; )

see, it wasn't as EVIL as kale and ursus usually made the target...I was on the right half of the target and I still got shot in the abdomen a few times.

Course do you remember when ysabet squeeled about getting shot during court a few years ago?

That was the target Ursus & Kale usually brought out for the Baronial Champion shoot. I can recall they were still using it the last time I shot that tourney, which would be 2002.

yep she was the baroness of the carpet. I dropped off the hunk o tree that mel and I scavenged. and mel was showing me the soap stone, and you were out to the world.
