Knitting is surprisingly easy! If you want to try out socks, I recommend paging through Silver's Sock Class (http://www.cometosilver.com/socks/), which is where I learned how to knit a basic sock. You'll see what all goes into it. A good book to flip through for knitting basics is Stitch N' Bitch.
Excellent job on the Socks! The look terrific, and though the pic doesn't show the heel, it looks like your increases and decreases came out beautifuly because they are not bunching at the front of the ankle at all.
