Brain is braining...and ankle is...special

So, Work was nuts last week...yes, I know I say this every week but we had two people out and things hitting the fan. But I did about 8 hours of OT with my weekend work. So I just shut things down early on Friday. But I had reasons since I needed to see the doctor about my ankle.

So, Wednesday during strength training I was doing trap bar deadlifts and felt my left heel do a weird burning and pulling sensation. It then didn't' want to do anything that caused it to bend. Driving the stick shift made things worse when I drove home. I did mange to do 2 sets of 235x5 before I went up to 255lbs. I even went down to 90lbs and it still hurt so, yeah. It wasn't the weight. So I iced things and took pain killers and limped into work on Thursday. I drove the truck but walking to my desk things hurt. I had worn my brace and kept my leg elevated most of the day. I had called to get an appt and I got it for Friday afternoon. They got me in an its xrays and seeing how that goes and if its still bothering me then PT. The xrays showed nothign obvious. I have a heel spur and a spur on my big toe (I broke the toe in 2008). So I've kept it wrapped and iced at the end of the day through the weekend. I did not enjoy driving the car today to do school drop off so things are not perfect or healed enough. But all of the lifting etc I did helped with some rehab.

So, Saturday i got the wild hair after feeding Ari's cats to ask mel if he wanted to hit our fave estate sale place. He said yes. There we found a neat saw vise for himself and then in the antique section we found a bureau. Its lorge and amazing and maple. Hand made. The front door is a bit warped but it came with the original key and it locks so meh. sO this whole thing involved cleaning up and rearranging furniture in the bedroom and in the studio. So most of the contents that were on the righ hand side of the studio got picked up and moved and sorted. The furniture I could lift and move with sliders with Mel's help but he moved things from room to room since that involved twisting and dodging a kitten who likes to attack ankles. It was a lot of work. We got the bedroom done on Saturday and on Sunday I got the studio done with purging things and then I spent Monday relaxing and then we got the TV we had bought my mom hung up so I can watch movies on a bigger screen than my ipad. cord management took a while and finding a place for the antenna so I can get broadcast TV. So yeah. But ti looks great and I sat with my feet up on my sewing stool and watched some youtube. This is so nice. I can't wait to craft after I work some OT this week.

Reading I'm still working through the two books. But my brain is happy. This makes me so happy Things have places! I still need to purge other parts of the studio but yanno...its okay. That will come when mel gets the shelving done but I want to get the quilt done and that will be out of my studio and then onto our bed if it ever cools off.

Hoping the ankle heals up some but I think PT is probably the thing. I will be heading to the gym tomorrow to see what I can do. if it hurts I won't do it. But I will keep trying to be active and rest it in intervals. I did not ice it last night and I had regrets. I'm going to finish here and then do that while dinner cooks. not sure what I'm making yet but I think sushi bake sounds good. But I'm tired and will be making progress slowly.

Had Ari and Mason over for family dinner of grilled steaks, corn on the cob and sweet potatoes. Everything was on the grill and we sat on the porch while I was cooking drinking beers and mel washed some fleece. It was nice to chat and relax.

Merrily it spins along.....

Work has been uber busy. So busy that I'm drained at the end of the day but my bullet journal is making sure I keep on track or at least know what I'm letting drop. I'm still in the midst of washing fabric for our stepping up clothes and I hope tonight to get into the studio to put together a pair of pants for Mel in a slightly tweaked pattern to make sure they fit well. Then I can hand off patterns to [personal profile] lferion and then the pants will get done.  I'm also going to need her help conserving fabric and we need to sit down and just cut things out on a weekend very quickly.  Hopefully the last one of the month before we are all traveling the entire month of April it seems.  Sighs.

We are bringing my MIL to Pennsic so that was fun planning with flights, rental car and getting things settled in camp.  HE Ann is loaning us her burgundian tent and that will be lovely.  Just trying to get in contact with the Royalty liaison (we've responded and waiting for the addition to the user group) and we can plan our activities.  We are also taking Benton and this will be fun.

Still trying to parse who will make clothes for us and I just need to hand off tasks to my apprentice.  Hopefully we can get that worked out tonight during crafting and movies.

I'm debating if I'm going to work the demo at the parade on Saturday or go to the event in Casa Grande.  Uncertain.  I have nothing in work for painting that is easy for a demo...though I guess I could take a spinning wheel. Hmmm....we shall see. Things are moving quickly and we are finalizing Benton's B-day plans since next week he will be 7.  Its a skating party but we need to get cake etc.

Crazy weekend of tired but at least that is done....

The last few weeks have been just crazy with all of the SCA stuff with scrolls and events and seneschal fu. I've been taking this week after Dragon's Horde to just chill. I've done laundry, had an awesome time decompressing with the Southern Scriptorium and I've been working on a blanket for Raylee and Craven. I hope to finish that up this weekend so I can start other things. I did manage to cast on a new pair of socks and am slowly knitting on them.

Benton spent most of Saturday playing swords with Christopher (Odde and Alison's Eldest) and I got video of a bit of it which is really cute.

Much thanks to Laura for watching him in the evening so mel and I could go to the feast without a cranky, no nap, toddler. He was very tuckered when we got home after having played swords almost the entire day and then running around for the last few hours. Sunday I got some pictures of Thyra's Pelican Ceremony, had the southern crusades meeting and then I judged entries in the Twin Moons A&S Championship and handled other seneschal stuff. I basically didn't really get to see anyone or any of the fighting all day. I guess the dragon fights were brutal and the kid's fights were awesome. Benton tried to run out with mel's sword and fight the dragon. Luckily Ari caught him before he got under the eric ropes.

Got home and got the boy bathed and fed and in bed and mel and I enjoyed a very autumnal dinner of sausage with rhutabega, sweet potatoe and spices. So good.

I've still been hitting the gym hard and my body is telling me in all sorts of annoying ways. Very sore most of the time now but my running is getting faster. So things are going slowly on the improvement to me parts but I just need to not get frustrated at not seeing real results for sometime. I'm making the effort to get to the gym, I'm not shirking the weights/cardio and this just takes time.

Today is Mel and I's 9 year wedding anniversary.
My photos have migrated and here is the album from many different folks of the wedding.

It does not seem like 9 years ago. It really doesn't. Course its been nine years of marriage and 16 years we've been together. Crazy. So much has happened since then and a good chunk of that has been good.

Fighter Practice for Me!

Since mel is still getting over being sick I was able to get to fighter practice. I had to force myself since I came home to get motivated since Benton fell asleep on me and we both crashed for about 30mins. Now, I was tired and sore from fighting over the weekend, I was tired from being up late to see Jonathan Coulton and They Might Be Giants on Monday night. BTW, faboo concert and it was awesome to do sushi with folks, hit the concert with the SCA nerds and run into coirkers and knitters and then go to The Hub for awesome ice cream. I got TMBG's newest albums on VINYL!!! and I have a medley of JoCo songs in my head right now. So much fun. Anyhoo...so I was tired but I knew that I needed to go. Got the boy fed and me fed and got him a bath before mel got home and we switched off parenting. My only dunderhead mistake was putting my fighting pants on wrong side out. Eh, its a night practice...no one is gonna know. Headed out dropped off my armor with the Hrafn folks and then headed out to speak with the dog folks about lights. Our contract is only for 7-9pm. They give us a 30 min grace period before they go out. The dog folks pack up at 9pm, we need longer lights and I will be calling them to see if the city will let us get an additional hour added to our contract. Had a good visit with the dog folks and one of the dogs looked just like my childhood dog Snickers. So cute.
Got back to our side of the field and got into armor, handled a piece of business from the weekend and then was out fighting. I took it a bit slow to start to get everything warmed up but got in line for the rotation. Then I did normal pickups. I fought hard and I think I did pretty well even with the bruises I'm now sporting. Got things to work on but honestly, there will always be something to improve on. Got done and packed up just before the lights went out. I was very happy that Rudiger announced a 30 mins and 15 mins warning so folks had an idea to start getting things packed up.

Got home and chatted with mel before showers. Read for a bit too. I finished book #2 of the year over the weekend (Kitty goes to Washington) and started in on #3 Patricia Brigg's Steal the Dragon and I'm really enjoying it. You can tell her writing really improved after Masques (her first novel).

I slept really good last night and am surprisingly chipper this am even with all of the bruises and how weary my body is.

Can I have more time?

Well, its the last day of work for me for the year and there is lots to do at work and at home. At work I have to vault a few reports and finish up a few change papers and at home its a lot of cleaning and crafts and baking to get ready for the household gathering on Sunday. I had hoped to be further along this week but I haven't really been home much this week except to eat a few meals and sleep. Monday was scribble and I got home about 10pm. Tueday was the car troubles so I didn't get home until about 8pm. Last night was the officer's meeting and I didn't get home until almost 930pm and tonight is dojo night and I'll be home briefly before heading out and getting back around 9pm. Luckily tomorrow we can sleep in, then take Benton to day care and get the house into shape.

The other annoying thing is my lower back has been killing me for a few days. Its tried to slide out a few times and I've been doing all of the right things for it but this is a case of let time get it to heal up. Also a trip to glen tomorrow for mel and I sounds like a good plan as well. (just scheduled that..yay!!!)

So, here is to a productive and not too painful day. We shall see how my back does. Ow.
