Turtle House Brewery and (insert name of Ivan's Yarn foo here) was productive

So the title is for how awesome mel was last night. He got a batch of beer on to drink for after Estrella, finished making his 4 bobbin tensioned lazy kate, plied and washed up all of the podling yarn he had spun minus about 20 yards. Very good night for him. I had to assist during the plying a few times when a strand would break and get it restarted for him. Luckily since I now know how to spin (though not great at it) I was able to grab ends, spit ply and twist them and then grab the twist to flow down the plies and catch the splice. Very cool. Though I need a good name for all of the fiber/woodworking stuff happening at the house. Oh, btw, mel did the lazy kate all by handtools and did dove tails cause "it was easier than any other option I could think of." yeah, Macguyver Laurel speaks. LOL.

The 4ply lazy kate

He calls the yarn "Raspberry Shake"

So, the rest of the day.

Let us just say that this was the first real day of me feeling very off and the Podling's movements have been pretty forceful and not really painful but very uncomfy. I also kept getting very distracted by the tummy movements and that also didn't feel really good on my mental state. grump. I got home from work and I had to lay down. Oof. I had fatigue waves running through me from all of the tummy motion while I was at work and I collapsed on the couch and finished watching a movie and dozed to get things to relax. I felt better but was still pretty worn out.

I got up and headed to knit night. My choice of dinner was the suck and for the second night in a row I've picked places that were having poor customer service. I should know better but oh, well. I had a kids meal sized dinner and that was all I wanted. I managed to get mel's sock to the toe decreases before I ran out of yarn. Boys need about 150 grams of sock yarn for socks. Most balls are only 50 grams. So, ya need to buy 3 balls. I don't think I've done that for any of his sock yarn except for one colorway we got at the knit retreat. We shall see. But I switched things out to longer needles to hold the stitches and will now cast on of the second sock and work that till I run out of yarn and then finish the toes. Oh, well.

I headed to the shower while mel washed the yarn. The pound of silk/merino fiber yielded about 400 yards of 4 ply yarn. Now comes the debate if its enough yarn for the hat and the sweater. I'll need to confer with the girls at the knit shop to see. I think the yarn is too thin for the jacket since its fingering weight and the jacket calls for DK or worsted. Mel has a really hard time doing those weights. So we shall see. I might have to augment it with yarn from my stash which is okay or mel will have to spin more...we shall see.

Tonight after work is my work baby shower. I hope I am not as tired as I was last night cause that will make things odd. But we have tomorrow off and a list of things to work on for the weekend so but that will be another post.

I did start book #4 for the year which is "Raven's Shadow" by Patricia Briggs.

How about, "String King Strikes Again"???

I love how he's all, dove tails were easier. Whatever!!!!

I don't know anything about knitting so completely clueless on if you need more yarn. I'll just sit over here and cheer you on!!!

GO Ianuk GO!!

Actually I was looking for a "business name" since we have the brewery named...when mel's teaching its Ivan and his Yarnharlots but that doesn't quite work for spinning stuff or woodworking.

Turtle House Makery perhaps?

Turtle House Shop. Turtle House String. Turtle House Handy-things.

Maybe just Turtle House Fibres or Turtle House Textiles? That covers all the knitting, spinning, etc.

I really do love that colorway.

How long does it take you to knit a sock these days?

[identity profile] raventhourne.livejournal.com 2011-02-10 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I cast on mel's sock on Dec 1....so a while. Of course I made lots of stuff in between then and now...so the second one shouldn't take me near as long I don't think. I have his sock and my MIL present on the needles and I'm resisting anything else until they are done except for the podling stuff...so I hope by the time podling is here it will be close to done.

The yarn is lovely!

The running out of yarn at the toe thing is why I like toe up socks.

Mel has size 11 eee feet and he likes tall sox. So I ran out. I will try toe up once I do another pair for him to get the pattern down.

Yeah, there's just no way you're not going to run out in that case. : )

Book siblings...
