Last week was a slog at work with a huge intensive training/exercise for the factory and our deliveries. It was a lot, it was loud, and peoply and I was drained each day when I got done and still had stuff to do. I managed to 1) get teh shawl blocked, 2)get calligraphy on the Knight scroll Poe did, 3) did all the laundry and put it away and 4) hit the gym on Tuesday. Everything else was a blur. Mel was not sleeping well or even going to bed on time. Which made him super crabby on Wednesday when I got home from knitting and ugh. boys.

But Thursday I finished work early (I had the time in) and managed to get home to finish/start my packing. I had been setting things aside to pack but had not packed in earnest. With Benton's help we got things settled and I think we were in bed about 1130? Mel had come home from the dojo and we had a long chat on things so that took time but meh.

Friday we got final loading and then lost 20 minutes finding Tasha to throw in her carrier. Sighs. she was under the piano. But we got on the road and honestly the trip was pretty good. We did take the "longer" way by going through Alamogordo to visit Pistachioland. Lol. We got snacks, potties, and the boys got ice cream. All good. Arrived about 830 in La Junta CO. Our hotel was the same friendly folks and we got the go bags and cats settled, grabbed Sonic dinner and then were asleep very early. We were all tired. The cats were happy and we all slept well. Had an okay breakfast (benton was being squirrely) but we got on the road and headed out with Mel driving. We switched off in Kearny NE got Runza for lunch. Then a good drive into SD. Though the GPS was nerfed and said we were in teh state before we got to the river. Lol. The GPS kept bouncing between which route was quicker (Vermillion or Irene) and we settled on the straight shot. The worst roads were Hwy 46 from Beresford to our turn. Looks like that project finished in November but I will have to do detours to get to Beresford which is what we did last year when the road was washed out or under construction.

The house is good. The weather has been good and we only turned on the A/C on Sunday night. We've had some really good thunderstorms the first was Sunday AM and then Monday afternoon. Benton has been running around barefoot outside. I finished mel's hat Sunday. I got my wheel up and going last night and spun while Mel was out gathering mulberries for the first harvest off the tree in the side terrace. I think he and benton will be going to pick them in the thicket this week. Other than that we may hit the shire archery practice tonight and I need to plan on when we will have our neighbor Ruby over for dinner. She's still coping with the grief of losing her husband suddenly last fall. She sounded like mom in a way with "the nights are the worst" and I think that is what led to mom not really sleeping at night. But we will have dinner and chat and catch up.

We have about 2 weeks before the Hucks get here and that is also okay. We have some work to do with the boys bedroom and things to fix like a water drip in the main shower and getting the dishwasher running. I think the shut down procedure will be to get it turned off at the panel cause the same thing happened last year I think.

So I promised photos of the shawl and calligraphy last post.
Shawl laid out on the couch after blocking

Shawl on to see how long it is on the front Ignore my crazy eyes focusing with bifocals on phones is hard. :P

The design and painting were done by Poe, she learned that size and spacing for calligraphy are important as are good framing margins but the commission was pretty open and the horse is amazing.

Managed to sit down and finally write things up. I did manage to knit a bunch, got to the gym, didn't drink too much, I've been watching what I've been eating. The scale is still stuck but that is fine. My goal for SD is to eat well, not drink too much and the minute I'm done with work I go for at least a mile walk either outside or on the treadmill. I'm also bringing my workout books that I haven't even looked at for bodyweight exercises, yoga, and stretching. So at least the intent is to have the resources. I will be making sure to keep some accountability too.

Work was crazy busy. We managed a lot and getting ready for a big focus meeting this week. I finished things up late on Friday and then vegg'd watching TV and knitting. The boys went to kung fu and I made homemade potato salad and grilled burgers. They were simple but good. I did some spinning too since my hands were tired and my right elbow is still giving me fits from over use. Managed to get things going well there.

Saturday I woke up too early. I was ready for Andrea's memorial. It was sweet and funny and we laugh and cried and remembered a wonderful woman. Amy and I were on the zoom and it was fun reading the stories folks were posting. I was drained from it and then went to my waxing appt. That was pretty good. Then it was home for some lunch and heading to Willa's for movie afternoon/drinks/food. We watched the 1970s Sword of the Valiant and then the latest Green Knight. Same tale but different interpretations. The first movie was cheezy and I think I saw it way way way back when. The second was visually stunning and well acted I think. Though they did a nice job on the men's clothes the women's were lacking in many ways but they were jumping periods a bit too. Both struggled with assuming that you know the tale of the green knight. I knew some of it in general terms but not the in depth parts of the plot. Luckily, Ari is a very good with it and knows it by heart. So good discussions and nuances happened. WE also had good beer (leftovers form my vigil/war) and lovely food and vegan carrot cake from houldens rise above. It was a good afternoon/evening and I managed to finish the shawl. I had to skip the last return row since I was going to run out of yarn. I had about 18 inches left when done. That was close.

I'm happy with the Shawl.

Sunday we got up late and roughly to phx for the convention. Benton was being an ass and had not done any of the things we needed him to do ahead of time and then fought us constantly on them later. But we got on the road and to phx without incident. I had reserved parking in the PCC garage which was perfect. Its below the north side of the convention center and was easy to get to badging and in through security. We got Benton breakfast from a pretzel cart and then walked down to the exhibition floor being open. I had planned on going to two panels but just didn't. I was seeing folks and just didn't want to miss them. We ran into Johannes and Anita (who had forgotten mels helmet le sigh), Tristan and Damiana, Dominique, Tony & Roxi & the youngest. We made some purchases, had lunch from teh convention center. Benton was not dealing with the crowds well and hung out on the floor near a door for a while. But he did enjoy watching the cosplayers. We did take him to the Lego room so he could hang in the quiet. I grabbed a beer and headed to the gaming area and ran into Malcolm and did some purchases of magic cards and stickers. We finished up with the floor, got our large art purchases and headed out.

We then drove to Mayo to see Jesse who had finally stood up on his own (ish) since his surgery on Monday. He does have cancer that spread to his bones from his kidney. They are going to start radiation/immuno therapy soon. Since his leg is not doing as well as hoped they are keeping him through treatments. I'm a bit worried on the radiation to his head and how that will deal with his brain. We stayed for a few hours before then heading across phx to Tempe for dinner at Black Bear Diner (boy wanted pancakes) and then home. We got in about 1030pm and were tired. But it was a nice trip.

Monday after work I managed to get my shawl blocked, calligraphy done on the knighting scroll.

Tuesday I hit the gym and managed to get my laundry finished up and put away/hung up. I purged a few more things but have not tackled the closet well or my other drawers but I did pull things for use in SD for the trip. Gonna do some packing tonight (lay out SCA stuff etc.) but the bulk will be tomorrow night. Sighs. I had hoped to be better ahead but I we have been setting things aside etc. So not too bad. It will be fine. Its all good. I just need to do things etc.

Work has been a lot with this even we are doing but all in all okay. Time to head out now and hit knitting and then TJs for snacks for the trip.

Still in the depressive episode. It may be slowing or just steady? I don't know. I've been trying to just make things and read and not doom scroll too much. Last week was emotional with Benton graduating from the school he's been at since he was 4 years old. He was part of the 26 kids out of his class that was there for the whole school. It was in the 90s when they finished the ceremony which was nice and the speakers were good from the class. The Kindergarteners brought a rose to each graduate and then the middle school (6 & 7) did the "clap out" by lining the walkway up the campus to the front gate and clapping as the graduates walked up the hill. I had tears for a lot of it. Think part of my emotional state is what the new normal is off of meds. OR its perimenopause of both or shrug.

We took a few pictures at the school sign. And then drove off campus for the last time. Benton requested brunch at Joe's. They were very busy with it being 1045am on a Thursday but it was nice to have a good breakfast/brunch. Then it was home where Benton relaxed and Mel and I started our work days. It was hard to get back to work but we managed.

Benton stayed home from martial arts so that let me relax after work without having to go do a pickup. I made him nuggies and mac as requested for dinner. I don't remember what I did on Thursday night but I think i was playing games. And asking Mel if he remembered x or y while packing for San Francisco. Friday he was up super early for his flight and I was awake when his alarm went off. I got working by 630 and had plenty to do for work. My to do list was off the page and I had a lot to accomplish. It was a lot and I had Benton managing things on his own which was playing video games. We had to hit the mall for bday presents for Mason. I got my massage and then it was out to Indian dinner for the birthday boy. Food was tasty at Indian Twist. We got home and again I don't recall what I did but watch some tv. I think I was in bed pretty late after going down a rabbit hole. I managed to started watching through the MCU I needed to catch up on.

Not day specific on the days but I watched and knitted through: Wakanda Forever, Echo, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel. Wakanda Forever was beautiful tribute to Chadwick, Echo was beautiful for the First Peoples mythos and storyline. I know folks called it slow paced but I'm pretty sure that was cause you have to read the subtitles. She-Hulk was funny and the finale was a bit off the rails but I hope they do a season 2. Ms. Marvel was an absolute delight. Seriously fun and while they didn't go with her usual origins it was fun and hit the mythos/magic fun. I need to open up the blue-ray of No Way Home since its not on Disney+. Yes that was a lot of TV but I also knit almost the entire time. And with Echo you had to read so that slowed me down. And my arms have been killing me. so Slower to knit and taking breaks.

Saturday I went to spinning at Grandma's and that was nice. Sunday I had a hair cut and grabbed some groceries, Monday I got drinks at Kon Tiki with Ari, Linnet and Percy. But that was about it. Benton spent a considerable amount of time sleeping and not cleaning his room. He did get some progress but its not where I had hoped it would be. We really, really need to do a purge.

Anyhoo...pretty boring and self centered weekend but I think it improved my mood a bit to be productive on a project?

I did a bit of cooking: Saturday night was ginger beef with noodles and Monday I did a potroast in the crockpot. It was perfect and the gravy was tasty. Go me.

Mel's flights were delayed so he got home at 1am but he had a good time and wants to go back to San Francisco to site see.

And yeah today I'm going to leave work and go to the gym. I'm the excuse for not going. It will suck but I will be happier doing it especially for how much I drank this weekend.

I'm still reading #15 for the year cause I read fanfic instead of my book cause it was making my brain feel slightly better.

But yeah is that.

I really wish people would 1) do their jobs and 2) think before they do things like tell us what the problem is first with data before you tell us what the corrective action is that engineering needs to approve. 4 times in one meeting I needed to ask for the basics of those issues. We never had the first simple of part of "what is the issue?" UGH. So damn frustrating.

The day just got more of the same so when I headed out it was lame that I walked into a dust storm and then the rain hit while walking to my car. Sighs. I grabbed poke and then hit knitting. I got one pattern row and one return row done in my time there between eating my dinner, chatting and then knitting. It was nice.

Managed to get home, relax and have beer while Mel was playing Dredge. I may have to start playing this...its neato. I'm trying to crunch through to perfection on Stardew but its a PITA. Animal crossing makes me sad cause its real time and weird and I'm still missing a few things to complete and yeah. Also, mel sucks so bad at driving that boat. Ugh.

I finished up #13 but there is an added story at the back which sets up the other stories in this world and locations we had seen in the previous books. But tonight I will start #14 which is Lore Olympus 8 which I accidentally ordered a second copy even though I had been given it for xmas by the BIL/SIL and it shipped when released. oops. Linnet gets a bday gift. Lol.

My goals are next week gym time. I'm letting my lungs get back on a good clip. I still have issues and have to hit the inhaler a few times per day. So we shall see. I may get a wild hair and go tomorrow afternoon since I need to be on site for a meeting in person (bleah). It will be dead but that will be nice to get things done. My inbox is crying.

Tuesday was tough at work...things were just weird. I worked late and then headed to Costco and made it to the dojo to pick up Benton. He was awesome and helped unload and put things away. I then made beef chorizo street tacos and we had a nice dinner and then I was just DONE. I sat down and played on my phone while Benton was in the shower and then I got showered and into bed pretty early. I barely woke up when mel came home late.

I've worn nice dresses all week to kinda help the brain. I wore one of my Karina ones Wednesday in a very bright robins egg blue and folks really like that one. My response was usually "thanks! it has pockets!". Let work after, due to the good work of one of my engineers, found we had been given the wrong hardware for a retrofit and yeah...I just left after I dropped that grenade into email. PMO left to go drink. But I got a nice sammie at jimmie johns and then went to knitting. I wasn't sure my brain was at a spot to knit on the shawl but I tried and succeeded. Just took it slow and got in a good rhythm. Was also talking gage and sweater math and while I've not knit an adult sweater, I can do the math cause its proportions. But we all agreed looking at the sizing etc to have the gal reswatch up a needle on the same swatch, then wash and block just to make sure but she may just need to knit the next size up for the yoke and then the body is all just dimensional (i.e. knit to your personal dimensions for length etc. This got me thinking that I may not need a full size sweater right now but a little nice shrug would be good. I went through my saved patterns on ravelry. I had a lot of ballet shrugs from back when I was thinner and I may still make some of those eventually like (Urban Bellerina, Sidhe Shrug, and Malfoy Manor.)

I ended up thinking that Sulka, Pip, and pashmineh. Though I probably won't have the third one be as form fitting. Then this week Romi Hill just release Wildspring which is super pretty and might be nice with summer dresses...not sure I have stash for that though. I'm trying not to buy any more yarn but that one is pretty.

Anyhoo its thoughts I've had and I've printed patterns up to keep me thinking about it and I can go stash dive to see if I have quantities etc. But it was nice to knit on the shawl and not be confused or too tired for a bit and make progress. I think I'm a few rows until I have to start putting the beads into the lace.

Thursday I again dressed nice in a sundress with a shrug and I did my hair up in this mess bun I got from IG. I felt cute which helped but as the day went on I had a head ache I could not shake and my ME lead went home with a migraine I think we are all stressed and allergy ridden and in the middle of next quarter financial planning which gives me a headache generally. Sighs. I got home and took a nap and did not wake refreshed. grump. So I made a small dinner of a sandwich and a large gin and juice and watched Buffy. The boys got home quarter past 8 and got food and we watched a quick episode of Mumbo Jumbo on YT. He was actually in the Minecraft movie as a cameo along with a few others and he helped design some of the small single builds for the movie. Looks like a few other Hermitcraft folks were also in the movie too. Which was super nice.

Mel and I sat chatting and I had a few more drinks and then it was late..oops. today has been fire after fire at work and I have a big case of I don't wannas.

Oh well.
ianuk: (Default)
Managed to get work completed pretty efficiently after spending weeks on a finance slog. That helped me to finally get my in box down to in the 50 email range. Which is nice. I felt like I actually accomplished a few things which has been a good thing.

Got poke on my way to knitting and that was also good.

I managed to get all the way through chart one on my shawl. Tonight I work on Ari's bday gift (yes I'm late but she just got back in town today :P). Its simple but I need to pull out things I haven't touched in years to make the thing. Which is why I'm glad I cleaned up the studio so I have table space etc. Then I can package it with the other cute things I got her. Looks like we are doing dinner tomorrow night so that will work as well.

But my back is almost done shedding and the skin feels not as tight so I will be able to get thing physically moving at the gym Tuesday next week. I am going to try to do some yoga in my studio this weekend and Monday to at least stretch out. It would be good for me. Like seriously get my ass in gear. But small steps, give myself some grace but don't cut myself too much slack. :P
ianuk: (baroness)
Monday I managed to get a bunch thing working at work while dealing with a body that was healing. I've now reached the snake skin shed stage, and the skin is very tight where its healing. So sitting against things hurts. putting my back pack on is a no-go etc. But we prevail.

I managed to finally get things off my to do list which was to clean up my studio, put all of the clothes away, put the fabric I pulled in January away and then moth ball the ever loving shit out of my stash and the closet. I even got mel to help with the wool storage in the closet since its up above my head. I felt very accomplished and then went to Poe's for scribble since Ari is out of town on Business. I set out to do 3 scrolls of calligraphy with my new pilot parellel pen. I can say it was lovely to work with and I got very very clean calligraphy and was super happy with the precision of the nib. And then after I did three I went back to erase my pencil and it started to smudge. Talking with some scribes on discord I think these were part of a batch of "oily" pergemenata and that is causing it to not dry well and not "stick" to the page. So I ordered some stuff to make my own pounce from John Neal and will soak them in that before I finish erasing. Then I can fix the smudges. But man I was so happy with them until that point.

Poe was painting on a snack plate for a retiring scientist from the park and its turning out awesome. My student is very very talented. Trying to take her lead on make stuff to not think about the crazy but oof its hard after a full day of work.

Things have just been hard to motivate for all of us and I will have another post on that.

Yesterday I had planned on doing laundry but I sat and chilled. After dinner I pulled my shawl that was stuck, tinked back a row and then got it restarted, set my row counter to the correct number and got through 2 pattern rows (4 total rows) before I took myself off to bed. Course the figuring things out turned my brain on so I was still awake when mel got home. We had a very quick chat where I realized I just needed to curl up. I was asleep by the time he got our of the shower. I slept okay until about 530 when the bathroom lit up with impending sunrise. Time to remind mel to shut the bathroom door at night.

But I was happy that I got that darn shawl back on track. I really want to get that moving past the first chart. and yanno, get a shawl out of this hopefully. I'm annoyed that I can't seem to work on a complicated knitting project...my brain just isn't there? Its annoying. I'd like to have some of that back please but I will just keep making simple socks if that helps keep me busy. I do hope to work on some clothes eventually but maybe my body getting back to the gym (next week when my tattoo is healed enough to not be ouchy) I will feel like making clothing or at least underunder dresses. Anyhooo that is for another time. Just trying to get things settled to work on something versus doomscroll or play video games.

Das Boot

So, My ortho appointment was good and bad. I have achilles tendinitis. And yeah...fun times. I get a boot to stop me moving my foot for 6-8 weeks and PT. I start PT tomorrow and we shall see how that goes. I spent the weekend in Flagstaff and hobbling around using my Rus walking cane on the rough terrain was exhausting. I did walk too much but the way we were set up I had to get up and move to watch the semifinals and the finals and then it was roses circle and then and then....yeah. Course when we were packing up I tripped on a pile of banner pole holders and that was an ouch. So yeah today is hurts ville. But we have a new Crown Prince and Princess. Its a first for both of them and that brings me joy.

The ride home did not bring me joy...construction on the mountain roads to Flagstaff mean lots of lane closures and people being dumb as a box of rocks. It will be great when its done but so painful while is under construction. A trip that usually takes 2 hours took 3.5 hours. Mel whiteknuckled it while I passenger princessed, knit and played on my phone. Benton played on his switch until he ran out of powder 20 mins from the house. We stopped in Phx for food and that was a good thing. We were all tired and cranky. Rudy's never disappoints. We then got home, I took the brace off and then iced things. I was tired. Spicy had not ate well with Ari taking care (no shade on Ari, Spicy was being Spicy) so she was gobbling food.

I went to bed early and played on my phone before turning in at 11. Mel came to bed really really late. And today I'm paying for my excess of fun. Oh well. It is what it is. I had fun, I'm excited for making things...my muse has perked up and sewing sounds kind of fun again. I will need a new dress and to finally make my own coat for light weight wear. I'm going to make it 3/4 sleeve for comfort here in Atenveldt.

I didn't manage to read but I did put a few inches on a hat made out of light weight fingering yarn. Its now 10.5 inches out of 23 inches...so more to go but its pretty and soft and will be nice to wear I think. Its the Musselburgh Hat. But all good.
ianuk: (crow)
Well, the weekend was productive and Monday was very productive. Tuesday just sucked.

Had to take mom to an MRI across town...so 45 min drive each way. It was pouring rain while driving. Mom was fiesty and didn't want to use a wheel chair and she had a lot of issues getting in an out of the car. We had lunch out and she ate well but slowly and she's lost a lot of her manners. Speaking with her mouth full, chewing with her mouth open. I don't know if its cause she's lived alone so long or what...its just odd. She was very weak when we got back to the care facility. So weak infact she couldn't make it up the ramp. I know she had not used the bathroom while we were out and my nose told me she had used her depends. I don't know if she's aware she did. Its sad. We had to sit on the outside bench for a while and then she had to have a caregiver help her inside. Sighs. It was hard...it was hard for me mentally to watch this slow degradation. I did not take it well.

I got home and took a 15min to just sit and not be....then I worked for a few hours but I was so tired and just strung out I took a nap. Mel was nice enough to bring Benton home since he wasn't hitting the practice due to the rain. I woke up when they got home. I was still tired and didn't feel great. But a nap was good thing.

Wednesday wasn't too bad for work...just slow. I left from home at 5pm while still on a call and then went to the yarn tasting for Circulo Yarns. The rep was from Brazil and she was very nice. The yarns we tried were wool free with cotton, acrylic, viscose, bamboo styles. I did not like their 100% acrylic as much as other brands. It was more sticky than I liked and not in a good way. I fell in love with their "bamboo" which is a mix and it was so soft and comes in a neat marled/striped style. I got a skein of the 8990. Not sure what I will do with it yet but there is a lot of yarn on the skein.

I got to chit chat with my friends who I haven't seen in years. Got caught up on the gossip. Had a nice simple meal and a good beer while trying out yarns. Its what I needed. I got home and needed to work on bias tape but I just snuggled up on the couch.

Today Benton left for Sky Camp for the day/night. Its up on Mount Lemmon and they get to hang out at the observatory. He gets back to school tomorrow at lunch. So yay. We get a kid night off and get to sleep and don't need to get things ready for him to be in the school. So I'm at work today since they are asking hybrid folks (especially leadership) to be in at least 2-3 times per week. But since my program area is not set up for us and my new office has a squatter we need to evict I'm sitting near where I had been. The desk is meh. Its nice to see folks though and we've hammered out a lot of things. I've missed the chit chat.

When I get home tonight I hope to get the bias tape made and then head out to get drinks with the hubby.

Still reading #35 which is Saints and Sinners by Jennifer Roberson. I like the characters and its an easy read. This is what I need after Nona. I think next will be Wil Wheaton's autobiography he re-released with commentary. Or I can get into the Laundry Files again. Not sure yet.

The scroll is making good progress. I hope to get good slog done over the weekend to get it just to final touchups next week. I need to finish my dress as well. Its currently hanging out on the dress form and I will be working on that too this weekend. Plus validating Benton has clothes that fit.
ianuk: (flower)
The weekend was nice...Friday was so long...OMG.. Work was so much work but I managed to knock everything off of my to-do list for work by 330pm on Friday.  I haven't done that in a really long time. It felt so good. Then I sat and played Stardew Valley for a few hours until dinner time.  I made my chicken dish and mel made mashed potatoes and green beans. The only change was I went 80s hot dish and added crushed up Ruffles versus bread crumbs. It made a neat texture change and was tasty.

I was asleep by 1030pm I was so tired and I had had a couple of margaritas before dinner.  So tired.  Saturday I was up early for the Atlantian University. It was good. I learned a few things and in the off ours I got the text penciled in on the porch project and more work done on my crochet shawl. I took a class on 14th Century hoods which had a stats slant to the types in manuscripts, a wonderful class on women Printers in the 15oos, an okay class on beads that lacked documentation completely and a class on the "squashed bug" style of painting in 15th and beyond manuscripts.  That class was neat.  After that I played some more video games and then went to my room with my ipad and shawl while the boys played Halo.  It was nice to sit and relax and finish my shawl while watching YT.

Sunday we all slept in and I thought I had calculated time changes correctly but missed my first class of the day.  I then went to my SIL class on dyes from your Kitchen and then took a class on making early period fibula.  The biggest thing to learn on that one was anneal, anneal, anneal which I knew but it was nice to see it step by step.  Then I played video games again and after that I got going on moving the porch project back to the porch and got some more progress on it before the mosquitos ate me alive through my DEET bug spray.  Ugh.  But I made progress on that project and the end is nearing. YAY! I also managed to get the shawls washed and blocked and my hat I made in July washed and laid out.  The studio was full of wet wool/silk and Eucalan smells and cat who wanted to lay upon the big flat surfaces covered in the wet projects.  le sigh. But its all dry enough today to hang on the shower curtain rod for final drying.  Except the hat...its thick but that is okay.

Mel and I after dinner continued on our dive through Clone Wars. We hit season 3 Episodes with the Force overlords and the battle there.  Wow, if we had known any of what those 3 episodes were about the last movie would have made way more sense.  I realize now I'm going to have to watch the crapiness of Episodes 1 thru 3 after we finish this series just to get the whole picture.  We own them on DVD cause I wanted the original series with the updates for visuals but not all of the crap lucas shoved in for the special editions.  So yay!.

On the book front I easily finished #16 When Sorrows Come and don't know why the novella at the end wasn't just part of the book but its all good. Toby finally got Married!

I'm now re-reading #17 of the year Mortal Danger by Eileen Wilkes.  I read this book a long while ago and can't remember much of it.  But I have the next 3 on loan from Mughi so I want to finish them up.  Its a neat world and a very neat take on magic.

So all in all a good weekend.  Very happy with that and I even managed to tear back on my Cloudlift Shawl that I messed up but I think I may have to rip the whole thing back to the cast on. Things are weird on it.  I will look at that later in the week.
ianuk: (caw!)
I am burnt out...last week was very hard to get through mentally but now I'm looking at 3 days of work left for the year and then I'm off until January 4th. I so need that time. I've been using my bujo for things not very pretty but for simple lists of things to do for the week. i had 8 things on that list last week and I got through 5.5 of them which I thought was pretty good. But I prepped from one of those items over the weekend which is shipping stuff out today after my dentist appointment.

I was able to relax and sleep and I finished my shawl which has been bothering me that its been not done. I have a fun knitting project I want to do before xmas. I also did all of the wrapping of things I had in the house for xmas and Benton and I got the tree decorated. It was a week after we got the tree up and things have been slow but its been nice and the tree looks really good. Very simple in some ways and I like it.

I've been reading a lot of fan fic and that is also okay. There was a big deluge of fics for Stucky fandom and I've been really enjoying things. I'm almost done with the Iron Druid book and hope to finish that this week.

I'm really looking forward to vacation. Mel is done tomorrow. I'm done Wednesday. Benton is done Thursday at noon. It will be nice. I can then get some effort into the my CCC due to just being busy with holiday prep. My studio was filled with boxes of stuff to be wrapped and that is now gone minus the stocking stuffers and things I need to ship this week.

I've been really happy with my advent calendar from Black Oak Workshop and its been really cool to see that my interpretation of the ghosty on the second set of dice looked like the the ghosts from scooby doo and my dice on the 13th was a scooby colored D20 with the 1 being "Ruh Roh" on it. I died. So fun.

ianuk: (wtf)
A little over a month ago the largest social network for fiber crafts did a launch of a new website and within hours folks with visual issues had problems. There have been seizures, migraines and brain bleeds from the site not following the accessibility rules for websites. And instead of a hard stance like the folks have taken with hate speech (its not allowed), being diversity inclusive for the LGBQTA+ community as a whole and fighting for Black Lives Matter, this entire issue has been met with all posts asking for changes etc being blocked, deleted and closed.

The staff at Ravelry are now discriminating against a minority of folks who are affected by their very product. I'm one of those people...I see differently than most folks, I need high contrast to do a lot of work and use "dark modes" on all of my tech devices as I can. I get nauseus using the new site within about 10 mins. Everything is too bright and the wrong kind of contrast. You can now "opt-in" to use the Old Ravelery but we've been told that it will be shut down eventually.

I am sad and disheartened by all of this. A community that has helped me through so much and is now not accessible to me and many others and then we are ignored, shut down and downright deleted. WTF?

In the mean time if you do use ravelry and you share links please append any links with the following:

/?newlook=0

This will default the link to the old ravelry pages and make it so folks who are like me can see the pages and now have a medical issue.

This isn't right and it sucks and I'm still in disbelief that the staff is treating this minority with such disregard when they have been so open in the past. It just boggles.

Well, I survived 2019. After I left work on December 18th I had a really nice holiday. I spent about the first 5 days sleeping a lot which I think was my body doing a mental reset. Work has been stressful and I guess my body was like "STOP! SLEEP!". In early december I started going to Impact Training Gym here in Tucson. I was only hitting the Saturday High Intensity Interval Training to start but then over the holiday I was able to do the HIIT and the Strength classes and didn't feel like I was a lump on the couch all break. I even did the 12 days of Xmas Christams Eve workout which was do day 1 (100# plate push across the floor) and then do day 2 and then day etc. I made it all of the way through day 9 and day 10 I just couldn't after 1.5 hours of activity. Day 4 was the killer we had to push the prowler sled up and back with 270# of weight on it. It killed me. But I did it. I can tell I'm stronger and my body is looking way better. Met with my doc on my asthma being weird and she commented that I looked better, my legs looked awesome and to keep up what I'm doing even though she agreed I need to start getting my weight down. I gained 5 pounds over the holiday but it was not fat.

pic to prove my point from Saturday...its a weird angle so I think it lies a bit but I love this and you can seen how long my hair has gotten considering that is in a french braid since I was going to have armor on later that day.
Untitled

After a killer workout I went home, changed into armor clothes, ate a huge omelet and then went to the fighter collegium which was good. I did some pickups, listened to the classes, commented on the classes and tested out my new chin strap which was weird but meh. After 15 years I needed to replace it after issues getting my helmet off at GWW. It feels very different but it was good. I got hit in the head a few times and didn't really care. We had laurel's circle which was nice and then home for showers and changing for 12th Night which was middle eastern themed. I was able to eat the very tasy feast and chatted with folks and watched court. Danced a bit and was home at a reasonable hour. It had started raining while at the event and we all realized that war practice the next day may be iffy.

At 8am after constant rain all night the war practice was cancelled. I was sad that I'm missing a war practice but it was cold and wet and the household peeps in town went to breakfast and then we had impromptu crafting at our house. It was nice. When the rain let up I was able to get the lights off of the house and put away (I did the cactus last week) and then settled in to laundry and knitting. I got my Craftvent shawl half done.

Untitled

And I cast on the other half and got a bit into the first lace section. Its much easier this time than the last since I know how things go and that was good. I tried to go to bed on time but read till late and then slept fitfully. Ugh. Oh, well. I'm heading to the gym to run tonight before scriptorium. My modified schedule for me to get my butt in gear is:
Monday Run
Wednesday Strength Club after knitting time
Saturday HIIT
Working Friday Run

So this week I'll get that all in hopefully and not die. I've also started tracking macros for what I eat. I had tried this previously but my apps weren't set up for that. Now since I'm paying a fee I can track things down well. Its hard and I need to eat leaner cuts of meat but I think its manageable. Every little bit helps and I'm happier. Now I just need to balance that with work and try to be more positive...it will help.

So I had a birthday on Monday and I spent the day sewing and watching Supernatural. I'm now in season 3. I'd spent Sunday the same way and that was all recovery from the 18 hour travel day on Saturday to go to a Windale event north of Wickenburg at the original Burro Creek Wars Site (aka the precursor to Estrella War). That was a fun event though a long travel day. I sewed and kibitzed and drove and yeah. long day.

Birthday was just dinner out with the boys. We went to Culinary Dropout which was new to us. Good food though and then home for cake. I had finished my Daybreak shawl by Stephen West and wore it since the AC was a bit cool.

Here is it all blocked out and then me wearing it sans makeup or even really doing my hair. Oh, well. Just not feeling it this year.

I'm quite pleased with it. I did have breakfast out after dropping Ben off at Ari's. I went to Prep&Pastry and had decadent red velvet french toast and beer. Cause you can.

My brain weasels are fighting with my productivity. I need to have the house not be a wreck to work but I have deadlines and yeah. So I'm enforcing cleaning on Friday night so we can have people over on Sunday for a work day and not worry about my house being a disaster of epic proportions. It really bugged me after we had unexpected guests show up last night for a drop off and I looked around and was appalled at the state of things. Sighs. With me finishing the shawl I'm not allowing myself to cast anything else on until I finish my Shale Shawl that has been a PITA and in time out for quite some time. But it will get finished and then I can cast on socks for us, a new cowl and the Spectra Shawl which I've had kitted up since we last reigned and haven't done yet.

Well, Christmas and New Years was really nice. I had my surgery and while I'm still recovering I still enjoyed things for the holidays and slept a lot. I also got a cold and that didn't help either. Sighs. We had my MIL here and that was wonderful and Shanda was here for a few days and that was awesome.

So when we last left my poor journal I was recovering from a cold and worked my last week of work. I spent that weekend cleaning and getting things setup for xmas since I was going to be laid up a bit. I will admit that being home for 2 days by myself was handy since I had the quiet to do my thing. I also had the Craftvent shawl to work on in between things and that was good too. Tuesday the 19th I had lunch with Mel's coworkers at Mamma Louisa's and then I went home for final prep before taking a Lyft to my operation. I was very surprised I got to ride in a Tesla Model S. It was swanky.

The surgery was okay. They had me on a lidocaine pump which was neat and I was very sore when done but I really didn't feel anything except in a few spots where they pumped me full of lidocaine some more. Got cleaned up and bandaged up and Mel was there to pick me up. We had to stop on the way out to get a bandaid for a stitch I had at the top of my left thigh...it was going to catch on everything. I was bandaged for a few days and Thursday night the bandages had slipped an bunched behind my knee that I could not sleep and the vicodin made me feel weird (face numbness) so I called the doc in the AM to see if I could take them off earlier than my appt that afternoon. Luckily Wander was there to help me since things were bloody and stuck to sutures and I hadn't really looked at the damage and it was hard to move etc. Then came the best and hardest shower of my life. The one after Benny was much easier. I had to sit down for this one and slowly scrub over the sutures. The sharpie marks from the surgeon took a week or so to come off. AFter that I was just in compression thigh highs for a week and then moved to only compression knee socks and now I'm doing pretty good. The legs are weirdly stiff, especially the one they ablated the vein in. It pulls something fierce and I have to keep getting up and walking...oh noes...more walking. :) They took the sutures out the afternoon I took the bandages off which was nice.

After that it was into holiday things pretty much full swing just at a much more slow rate than I normally do. That was okay. I needed to take things easy and Shanda helped me get lasagna done and pies. Mel and his mom had fun shopping and doing things and Benton was super excited to have folks there and presents and the like. Unfortunately, just as we finished the holiday Mel and Ellen got bad colds and Benton was lethargic with a kinda cold too. I knit on my shawl, watch MacGuyer (original series) and dinked around for like a week. All good. I finished the shawl and blocked it ready to wear.

Over New Years I worked on banners with the household and we got new furniture for the front room. The IKEA table went to Ari's and we got a 1915 mahogany gateleg table and then a side 1950s Danish Modern to use when we needed big space. We had a lot of folks who do not have linen banners for themselves and we needed to teach the method and we have this great big porch and well, we did banners. I had given everyone homework and well...only one person really did that but it all worked out in the end. New Years night there was painting, good dinner, light saber fights and then watching Spiderman Homecoming with a bunch of people. I painted more banners and we had a nice week with Ellen before Ben and us went back to work and school.

Work has been busy and all of the SCA stuff is getting busy again too. The weekend before we came back was Kingdom 12th Night and Benton was awarded his Lion's Pride. The tail is uber cute.

So, albums for friends and family:

Leg Surgery Kinda Graphic?!

My Shawl:

ianuk: (confused)
The last few months have been a lot of work at work and at home on projects.  I've managing a large team of young engineers doing challenging things on a tight schedule and managing a small team of people to work on the Plurican and now I'm managing and working on the stepping down clothes for TRM and I have a hard time by the end of the day making any more decisions and I get dead locked in my head.

Had a nice night with my student who helped me work through some issues and bounce stuff off to get stuff cut out.  Yay!  I have plans to get things moving and that will be good.  I will have good progress by then end of the weekend to be able to hand off things to my apprentice and student.  Its helping but people are expecting me to constantly make decisions when all I want to do is not do anything.

Sighs.

But it is what it is and when I was given the opportunity to do another few sewing commissions, I said no.  It was hard, I really want to do these things but mentally/Physically I just can't.

I have more mandatory, unpaid, training this friday and plan on working on these socks some more.  I had not gotten to the toe yet and you can see the progress from the previous week at training.

Coronation finish (5/6):

So, when I last left off it was Saturday afternoon May 6th and I was still in shock from getting the "Glory of Atenveldt" and hungry, so court ended and we got lunch at the kiosk on the lawn. Got a lovely picture of me, Duchess Deborah and [personal profile] lferion which I need to get  copy.  Got fed and then things taken care of before we headed into court. Ari and I had been doing our standard "untangle yarn at coronation" schtick.  Her Ravenclaw socks were being persnickety.  We had lots of people just agog at our efforts to not cut the yarn.  We got about 85 % done by the time the second court finished.  Now back to my previous post...I knew things were happening...and it was a waiting game while our new to Atenveldt Majesties (they'd reigned many times in Meridies). They did a play which was funny and having Count Dennis of the Titan's being the "voice of tradition" for Atenveldt was a really nice way.   So the big finale of the coronation court was them calling up the pelicans and speaking about service etc, and keeping with the schtick from earlier HRM Amber (a member of the Laurelate) talked about art and how people can do both service and art and called up the Laurels.  I sallied up to the front of the area and purposely did not look to where I knew the candidate was...since I'd known this was coming.  They called up my wonderful apprentices husband Domnall (Domegnev) and the crowd went wild.  He was a bit thunderstruck. His knight, [livejournal.com profile] americanknight was ecstatic.    Yay!!!!!

So we know what the summer work will be since he will be answering the offer in Sept.  Research has shown that the last time a laurel/pel was given was to Aaron Swiftrunner (former Society Seneschal) whom I know quite well from my time as seneschal the first time during the embezzlement fiasco.  So that is cool.  He deserves it and the household is also just happy as clams.  There was some drama where they forgot to call out Asa as a Duchess of Atenveldt and they never thanked Ari for her service as Signet before I took over.  The Kingdom herald took to FB to "fix" that but seriously.  That was lame.

Sunday was another busy day where Sam and I got the signet case all reorganized and sorted withteh 40+ scrolls that got turned in by Twin Moons. I sat and chatted with people and watched teh tourneys and it was nice.  Mel and 7 other guys made it to the king's champion finals and they realized that they all were going to different events and they had the "hateful 8" for the champions. Morgan was the true victor but they all are going to be a rotating stock of Champions.  So Monday at scriptorium Poe designed a hyrda with the heads of each of the winners.  She got them laminated for badges for them to wear.  Its cool.

The weekend after coronation I was running Baronial A&S in BTY.  There were issues with the site that made a few things annoying but all in all it went well. We got things to look really nice and there was good art on display.  I put on like 13-14k steps that day and was dog tired when I was done.  Hrafnheim won the household championship again. Ivan won the Championship even though he didn't enter. They basically talked with everyone (but him, he was off site dropping boy off at a party) and missed them asking him.  Lol.  But its all good.  We had a nice turnout but not spectacular. The smoked chicken we did was a big hit with Ari's curry.

Work has been nuts. Lots of OT and me not having the time to work the OT. Sighs.  The weekend after A&S Mel went to San Diego with Paul for a kung fu thing.  I coped wth being a single parent but did some work around the house etc.  The following weekend (memorial day) was PHXCC.

There is a lot to say about that con.  There was a lot of stupid, There was a lot of awesome but we did have fun.  Dick Van Dyke, The voices of Batman the Animated Series, Alan Tydk and John De Lancie were faboo.

The album of Con

Ari won the con with Jim Butcher freaking the heck out over her Mab.  I got stopped a lot in my Lolita which was great. And I painted on things at the SCA booth while stuff was going on for the demo portions.

Cool Pic of Ari and I in cute dresses:

This past weekend (Jun3/4) was the kingdom collegium and I took 2 classes and then sat around both days and painted scrolls.  TRM are big on giving things out and I'd done 4 pieces of calligraphy that week alone and I've been behind on on things and just wanted to finally finish something.  So the scroll I had low lighted at the con I managed to finish completely on Saturday and then started another one.

So, now I need to finish a knit hat and 2 tunics and then I can really start work on TRM clothing and Dom's scroll.

Managed to do some relaxing, some antiquing, some adulting, some parenting, some knitting, some spinning and heading out to the fair. Not too shabby.

I got a new to me spinning chair:
My new spinning chair. British made. It was bought in 1962. We are pretty sure it was made well before then. #spinning #fiberart #woodworking

Mel and I hit a newer antique mall and had a good time. Got Benton from school and had a nice Friday night. I may have had too many margaritas.

Saturday I relaxed while the boys went to the dojo and then we headed to the Pima County Fair again to do rides and carnival stuff as well as the exhibitors hall. I bought shoes...at the fair but how could I not?
I liked them so much I ordered another pair in blues. #shoes I also ordered them in blue....

We got home and had a nice evening in. Sunday dawned at 345 in the morning with Benton falling head first off of his bunk into his trash can. I stayed up with him until he could sleep which was about 5am. He's okay, a bit bruised and reminded of why you need to put your head at the head of your bed. He had flipped around and slid down the opening at the ladder. Sighs. At 6am the cat broke int the bedroom, at 630 mel got up for Black belt testing for the dojo and mercifully I and teh boy slept in until about 830am. I was still zonked though and I managed clean up my library corner of books, patterns, yarn etc. I tidyied everything and now its useable as space. I also got out things for projects since Saturday night I finished my Darth Rainbow socks.

Finished! #operationsockdrawer #smoothoperator #knittersofinstagram

Mel got home at 345. Icka was over chatting since I found her something cool while shopping friday. I ran errands and then was home to cook dinner and then to work for a while before setting my spinning wheel back up to spin some fiber while we watched a movie.

All in all an okay weekend....wish I had more done but it was nice none the less.
ianuk: (crafts)
In the midst of lots of calligraphy, gym time and OT I finally finished my Birthday socks. They even have the kitten paw of approval.

Kitten approved #operationsockdrawer #ravelry

My Birthday socks are done! Before my birthday. DH bought the yarn for me for my last bday. Serenity Glitter sock in San Diego colorway #socks #operationsockdrawer #ravelry

I started these back in august but well....things got slowed down by life. Next up is my rainbow socks where I'm on the second sock foot...maybe I can finish them by my birthday too. They are self striping yarn and have an afterthought heel so we shall see.

My Weekend

Jan. 23rd, 2017 12:25 pm
ianuk: (Default)
Friday was errands, pampering and hanging out with my apprentice for boozy brunch before working from home for a while. This was most of my weekend...do things and then work for a while.

I finished my kitten hat for the march on Friday night and got my phone finally upgraded to the new OS! Yay!

I slept fitfully since I was worried that things would not go nice and the worst case scenarios where in full force in my dreams but that was no issue.

The march was inspiring and cold and hot and inspiring and I was tuckered when I got home but I worked....Benton was beside himself that I could not be his world but he settled down once I finished and he got to watch some tv with me. (grin)

After he was in bed I pulled out my armor bag and checked through and found all of my stuff and got things packed up for the next day. We even taped up a new sword which was awesome. I was nervous when I went to bed but was so tired from the night befores poor sleep that I crashed hard.

We got Ben off to Mary and Andrew's for the day and got to site to find the event already in full swing. They had moved the event start time up but had only posted it to FB. Never cross posted it to anywhere. le sigh. I talked with the social media office and stated that was unacceptable. We didn't miss anything other than a drive by court barony but still. If I'd known things were going earlier I would have gotten us up there on time. le Sigh especially since I had the scrolls for the event.

But I got myself settled with scrolls and got my fighting card situation settled (I could not find mine) and then got armored up. To say I was nervous was an understatement but I got in and got myself insinuated into the line and things just fell right into place. Seriously, fell right back and I had no issues where I felt tired until much later in the day. Yay for working lungs! Got some nice compliments, helped teach some new fighters how to take and receive charges and just had fun. Seriously, it was so good to get back into things. Got lots of compliments from folks who were really glad to see me back and some from folks who didn't know I fought heavy. But that is to be expected that there is a short generation of fighters who have never seen me take the field. Sad but true. 3 years is a long time away. But I did it, I did it well and I'm still grinning even though I'm beat to hell.

Untitled

We finished up with final court, loaded things up (I got shiny new scrolls for the case!) and then before we got to the interstate Mel noticed a 5 guys and we decided to stop there for dinner. This was the best plan. I did not realize how hungry I was and I was on fumes. Our plan to wait till Culvers in Casa Grande would have been a very bad idea.

Got to pick up Ben just before 7pm and then home to unload, get the boy bathed and then get settled in for the night. I'm not ashamed to admit I was in bed by 930pm.
