So with the rest of the family here we did some good things out side of the house like agate hunting on the road, archery practice with the whole family, movie nights where we have watched Jurassic Park II and ID 4. Hiked around Newton Hills State Park, Palisades State Park, Falls Park, crafted while the boys played video games/watched YT and hit up fighter practice. We have been active and that has been nice though now sitting at my desk for 9 hours makes my hips hurt. Le Sigh.

Right now Rob is putting in new light fixtures in the dining room and the entryway. The entryway has a boob light and the fixture in the dining room is for if 1) you had the table centered in the room, 2) if your ceilings were 15 foot heigh. Neither of those are the case since we use the patio (mom never did) and with the move of table during the overhaul to put in the bar. So I got two lights and wasn't sure which would go where. After discussions last night the stained glass went up in the dining room today and crystal in the entry. Rob had to do some finicky work to get the plates to line up and the fixture in the entry he just swapped out the shade. It looks so good! Before and . I didn't get the before shot in the entryway but here it after. This makes me happy and now no one will hit their heads in the dining room.

We also got a new dishwasher but it didn't get the plumbing hooked up cause its all copper in this house and needed a new valve. So it was a week before we could use the dishwasher for anything other than a drying rack and we have 7 people in the house...that is a lot of dishes we have all been doing. And teenage/tweens produce a copious amount of dishes.

For animals we've now seen a whole deer family unit with two does, and two fawns, including a tiny one who is so cute. But I had a muskrat visit the downstairs patio doors and I only got this photo through the screens . The bunnies and ground squirrels have been all over, lots of finches, swallows, robins (with a nest of 3 babies on our porch light), cardinals, finches, killdeer, wood peckers, and the boys saw a mouse in their bathroom drop ceiling, so I will have to get traps. We will put kill stuff out when we leave since I don't want the cats to eat a poisoned mouse. But sighs.

So wildlife and such. Its been nice to have the family here and we have an SCA trip to Wisconsin on Thursday. It will be fun and the weather is only looking kinda rainy so hopefully not with the tornado issues from last year. :)

The storms have shown some pretty skies though:

Monday I managed to get a bunch thing working at work while dealing with a body that was healing. I've now reached the snake skin shed stage, and the skin is very tight where its healing. So sitting against things hurts. putting my back pack on is a no-go etc. But we prevail.

I managed to finally get things off my to do list which was to clean up my studio, put all of the clothes away, put the fabric I pulled in January away and then moth ball the ever loving shit out of my stash and the closet. I even got mel to help with the wool storage in the closet since its up above my head. I felt very accomplished and then went to Poe's for scribble since Ari is out of town on Business. I set out to do 3 scrolls of calligraphy with my new pilot parellel pen. I can say it was lovely to work with and I got very very clean calligraphy and was super happy with the precision of the nib. And then after I did three I went back to erase my pencil and it started to smudge. Talking with some scribes on discord I think these were part of a batch of "oily" pergemenata and that is causing it to not dry well and not "stick" to the page. So I ordered some stuff to make my own pounce from John Neal and will soak them in that before I finish erasing. Then I can fix the smudges. But man I was so happy with them until that point.

Poe was painting on a snack plate for a retiring scientist from the park and its turning out awesome. My student is very very talented. Trying to take her lead on make stuff to not think about the crazy but oof its hard after a full day of work.

Things have just been hard to motivate for all of us and I will have another post on that.

Yesterday I had planned on doing laundry but I sat and chilled. After dinner I pulled my shawl that was stuck, tinked back a row and then got it restarted, set my row counter to the correct number and got through 2 pattern rows (4 total rows) before I took myself off to bed. Course the figuring things out turned my brain on so I was still awake when mel got home. We had a very quick chat where I realized I just needed to curl up. I was asleep by the time he got our of the shower. I slept okay until about 530 when the bathroom lit up with impending sunrise. Time to remind mel to shut the bathroom door at night.

But I was happy that I got that darn shawl back on track. I really want to get that moving past the first chart. and yanno, get a shawl out of this hopefully. I'm annoyed that I can't seem to work on a complicated knitting project...my brain just isn't there? Its annoying. I'd like to have some of that back please but I will just keep making simple socks if that helps keep me busy. I do hope to work on some clothes eventually but maybe my body getting back to the gym (next week when my tattoo is healed enough to not be ouchy) I will feel like making clothing or at least underunder dresses. Anyhooo that is for another time. Just trying to get things settled to work on something versus doomscroll or play video games.

I was/am still in withdrawal hell but much better. Right now its mostly the "persistent headache" and occasional dizziness. The headache is annoying but I'm managing with some meds. The dizzy I just need to not move too fast from bending down to standing up. Which okay..fair. Hopefully that finishes up soon.

While we had planned trailer prep this weekend Mel had dojo renovations on Saturday that took the day and I had projects for the war and beyond so next weekend will be better.

So Saturday I got up early and attended a calligraphy class from at the Atlantia University and then did some stuff around the house like take returns to the UPS store, clean up all of the cardboard detritus for the recycling and get my studio back to rights to start a project the next day. Then I tried to attend my next class and the teacher was a no show and we all hung out for 30 mins and chatted scribal stuff around the world and yeah I could have taught the class on "how to work with other kingdoms" and so I gave some pointers from my years of experience. Then Willa picked me up and we headed to the bead show at Casino del Sol. I got stuff for the embroidery project for Cassandras Laurel dress, I got some other findings I needed for necklace stuff and bought some earrings and a glow in the dark spindle whorl from Branwen. Now she sold it as a bead but its totally a whorl if you know what to look for. Mel's comment when he saw it was "i would have bought that too!"

It was nice to hang with Willa and we got to scope the site for possible coronation site. It is a casino but the hotel is nice, it has a separate from the casino entrance but the path to the ballrooms does brush the edge of a slots area without much demarcation and that makes me worry about kids etc. So we shall see. I have many other sites that are casinos and aren't so we shall figure it out.

Got home and Mel had only gotten back from the dojo at 5pm and was taking a breather so I took the suggestion from Benton who has a cold and wanted comfort food to make mac and cheese for him and Mel, Chicken nuggets in the air fryer and a nice side salad for me. It was a good meal and I cooked so yanno I call that a win. Benton basically played video games all Saturday and drank lots of honeyed tea and then went to bed after a long bath at like 730pm. Poor kiddo.

Sunday I tried to sleep in but mel had left the bathroom door open and the light woke me up. so I got some coffee and played stardew unhampered for like a hour before Mel got up. I then I played for longer than I should but it was okay. I then got dressed, sorted laundry, then after a break from being dizzy, got it into the washer for an afternoon of laundry. I then went through wools and found a brown wool for a bog coat for Benton...I used basically this pattern though I still don't know why they want the little slit for join to the body but meh. It worked. I dug through the tablet woven stash and found trim from an old caftan of Mel's to recycle and then sewed that on. I only used my serger for the 4 seams since my machines are still in the shop. Hopefully I can pick them up tomorrow when I take my serger class. I also pulled out the items I bought at the gem show, downselected them to what matched the gold needed and then pulled supplies from various places, dug out my embroidery stuff and realized it needed its own bin, found a bin but it needs a location and I don't want to rearrange things yet until the machines are back. So, I then attached the silk squares to a backing cotton and then tried two different embroidery frames that did not work for my sizing or needs. Then I put it in time out while I put the trim on the bog coat and then came back, took things off the frame, stored the frames (for now) and found my hoops. It fits my one hoop nicely and won't get weird for switching to the other design which I've snuggled up and pinned. I do need to get a nice bag to keep this in while I'm not working on it. After the war I will deal with my studio behind the door book case and the closet. Cause I need some of that space redone and being able to get to some of my drawer thingys would be nice since there are notions I can't get to. So I was happy that the only other thing I need to buy is some yellow felt to go under the gold in places and that is a quick michaels trip. I hope to get started on the laurel wreath tonight.

But for my viewing later for ideas on the rose etc Goldwork Rose

I think on the laurel leaves I will get a ground of yellow stem stitch and then do satin for the leaves with pearl/bead accents for the veins? I will have to play a bit I think. Or I will do this? Fly stitch which I quite like. I will just have to see. I will have to probably have a side hoop setup to practice on.

Anyhoo..productive weekend. I'm abit over 50% done with Killer Cocktails (#2) and about 5% on my treadmill book. So not too shabby...can't wait for the final with drawal stuff to finish. Ugh.
ianuk: (crafts)
Unlike all of the girls chat I had to work...we don't get the oddball national holidays off but its why we get off the week between xmas and new years so okay. I made sure to stay on task with my to do list. Work was a lot of meetings, listening meetings, and watching things. So that worked fine.

Through all of that I repaired my half gloves which developed holes within a few wearings. I don't think the yarn was up for the task. Then I worked on finishing up the sock which I did in the afternoon.

Got to my dentist appt early, as requested but it still took well over an hour for the crown replacement to permanent. I have a fussy mouth and I'm sure now the temp crown left one of my nerves free to be annoyed. With the permanent crown I don't have any pain which is good and this piece of porcelain feels more like a tooth than the one I had before. There are good grooves in it. I think we had to polish the one on my other tooth too much and it still feels weird 3 years later. After the dentist I trundled to the spa to get a pedicure and that was heavenly. I got a sparkly pale pink. ?I got the cast on for the next sock but I left my third needle at home so I read my book instead while I was being pampered.

I grabbed cat litter and should have gotten Spicy food but meh at Petco before heading home. I was cold cause the temp had dropped (yay desert) and the wind picked way up. I was also in slides and bare toes...so chilly. Got home and mel was finishing up a nice large batch of red beans and rice. I had bought sausage at Forbes. And that was tasty...though he had decided to put carrots in it? They were not as cooked as everything else so odd but I'm sure that will soften as it sits and reheats for lunch. After that mel was playing stardew and when he finished he got me a fancy drink with the fresh pineapple, chinola, rum and ice. It was so good and then I played Stardew and got the last fish and the last star drop! And then I died in the skull carverns doing stoopid things and didn't make the quest that day. But its all good. And then it was time for bed. Which I got myself to and didn't stay up too late reading though things were getting to a fun but second hand embarrassment bit so I was good stopping.

Today I have my gym bag (I found it shoved behind the laundry bins that go under the bureau. I have a hoodie for afterward and yeah. Not sure what I will be working on but I need to increase my intensity after I get myself settled with getting back. I also will try to hit a yoga class elsewhere but I need to move more and lift more.

On the meds front I'm on my last week and I've cut the cables to 1/4 kinda and I will just take them and then be done. I'm still having some sugar cravings but I think part of that is I'm cold sugar makes you warm but my drinking has been much better. So little steps. I'm not touching a scale until after the war...that way goes madness.

I did get some new photos from my ceremony at much more flattering angles from HE Kollgrimma and that was nice. I've added them to the album at the end. Still trying to get the video and any other pictures.

So, ya...I thought I would have a relaxing weekend....but didn't.

Friday was a bit of relaxing but I did car stuff, laundry of the bedding from the guests, getting the tree down and put all the insides xmas stuff down and away. I need to pull lights off the house still. I had a wonderful massage and then home for a nice evening.

Saturday I slept in a bit and then got moving with getting Benton to a friends house for some play time and then emptying my studio shelves and moving my fabric tubs so mel could put up new shelving and put a board on my filing cabinet to let the totes sit better. It took about an hour to empty everything into the front room and it was dusty and ugh. I then headed to Costco and got sundries...course everyone else had the same idea but I stuck to the outskirts and got my necessities and then headed home to unload and then pick Benton up from his fun. Once home Mel finished up with the shelving and I started to go through all of the stuff, organize things, put like with like and then I labeled every bin/container/drawer. I got everything back on the shelves and set minus a few small shoe box size things of SCA detritus I need to cull through. Its 30 years worth of site tokes, favors, tchotchkes etc. That is a Tuesday night problem. I also in the middle of organizing made chicken mole with store bought mole sauce. Tasty and less work than making my own though I may try to find some paste versus pouch version so I can make it thicker. But I finished this all up at 11pm. Mel was tired and had gone to bed a bit earlier and I was wired cause I was "PRODUCTIVE!!!" and my brain and body were wired. My back was also not happy with me from stoopid on Friday wrestling the tree etc.

Sunday we got up early, got dressed, loaded the van and were on the road with burritos by 730am to war practice on the NW side of Phx Metro. We got there with the right amount of time to get setup and sit down for court...which was exciting cause they offered knighthood to a gent who has been awesome and that made the Southern Baronies so happy cause he's from our neck of the desert. It was the whole reason I went to cheer, give him and his lady hugs and tell him how much he deserves this. I posted about it and his cousin who participated in his youth was like "HOLY HELL!!!" It brought such a smile to everyone. They also called up my KWHSS travel buddy Mistress Genevieve for the Laurels. Her 14th century is ON POINT and amazing. And her hubby is also amazing and funny as shit.

Anwhoo. After court I managed to get my 'errands' which were getting fiber to Skadi, delivering the bag Blossom left at Boar Fest, and getting my fighting card up to date. I still plan on getting back on the field. Just trying to get my health settled and get my endurance up and a few pounds off.

Anyhoo. The rest of the day I hung out under our shade, knit on mel's sock and attended the Bard of the Sun Competition. I did film a few of the performances. Dom singing his filk of "the mob song" from beauty and the beast and Sayyida Keesa dancing a prayer for rain for Caid . It was a wonderful time of song and stories and even sock puppets. I know I would have had a hard time choosing. But in the end Dom won! Woot! I think he's the 4th Bard of the Sun from the household. Yay!

Also, if you ever need THE RULES you now have the link of Ari reciting them at my vigil. :)

It was a nice day and I got a lot of knitting done. There were more peerage offers and good awards and then it was pack up and go time and Mel was no where to be found but I had household folks to help. I had to finally wrangle Benton away from where he spent all day playing with other kids on the opposite side of the site. He had ate and drank so that was okay but he was MIA all day. Meh. Anyhoo, got everything packed up and moved with help from Dom, Zoe and also Khalil who used to be a household member. I just asked him to put all of mel's armor in the bag and then Dom got the bag on a return trip. I was just about to call out a search party when mel arrived. He had gotten talking chinese sword with a gent who I had seen coming out with his family all in very nice chinese clothes including the kiddos (omg so cute) and he had talked jin for like 45 mins. So, mel got changed into a tshirt and into the van for me to drive around phx to Rudys BBQ before we headed to IKEA. We had dinner with Thorin and he's always a delight.

IKEA was pretty chill. Not very many folks were there and we had wonderful help from "Sir Mark" in the mattress area. We only picked up a few items not on our list (new collapsable laundry hamper to replace the one with the torn bottom, an octopus drying thingy for ivan's socks, a cupholder for my desk, cinnamon rolls cause reasons). We got the mattress for Benton (he got a plush one and loves it), we got a new mattress for our camp bed, A mattress pad for Benton and a new fitted sheet for him. Still was spendy but all good. We got back on the road by 730pm and home a bit after 9. We only unloaded the essentials, Benton showered and went to bed. I had a beer and then showered and we were all asleep by 11pm I think.

Yesterday was a light work day but a heavy car day. I picked up the civic after all the work they did. Got home and about an hour later Mel and I took the van and the civic to the tire place to get tires and wiper blades. We walked home to work and they called about 20 mins before mel had to leave for school pickup. We walked back (yay a whole mile walked) and I got back to work. Today Mel took the van to Jack Furriers to get the AC fixed, I will be calling them to do the alignment on the car tomorrow and then we should be done with car things for trips/war etc. We drive to El Paso for Outlands Coronation Friday so fixes were needed. The car I was going to do over break but I didn't drive it much and they had to order parts for the recall and the hatchback pistons. But its all good now. Just needs the alignment now that I have new tires, the strut fixed, new brakes, the fuel pump replaces (recall) and the hatchback working properly again.

So I'm trying to simplify things in 2025 and part of that is unsubscribing from email lists from various suppliers. [personal profile] danabren suggested it and damn does it feel nice to do it. I had so much email over the break its crazy so yeah hopefully that makes things easier for me.

I had planned on heading to scriptorium and putting the rest of the weekend away and I was toast by 530pm. We finally broke down and turned on the heat yesterday cause it was 27 when we work up and 57 in the house. I ran my space heater in my office for half the day. And by evening Mel was toast and it was video game time for the boys. Since the family room doesn't have heat we snuggled up with afghans and the boys played Borderlands3 and I had cocoa and sat with my ipad playing stardew in the reading chair that is now facing the couch. Thus the TV wasn't distracting but it was fun parallel play with the boys and we all enjoyed family game time. I also like the new chair position (its where the cat tree was and we moved that to the window in the front room and the cats love it there).

Today is calling on appts. I can't find my gym bag..oops...so I'm going to clear out the weekend SCA gear and put it away and go through the 4 bins of SCA detritus while watching TV. I need to make dinner and do laundry as well but this should be doable and all good.

On the book front I had started #1 the last few days of 2024 and its "The Gospel of Loki" which is odd and I like it thus far.

I figure a wrap up of things would be good. Lets see what I can remember.

Knitting/ Crochet:
I finished 14 projects mostly Chickens but I started the year on a Dead Fish Hat for my nephew Viktor. I did one pair of socks for Mel, 3 pumpkin pillows including the giant one for Mel, 3 large emotional support chickens and 5 mini chickens for other folks. The last project I just found while looking at my camera roll and I made a cowl/shawl thingy in June with handspun form Shanda and I just found the pattern which is Agnes which is nice and I need to upload finished photos of it. Oops.

Scrolls:
I finished 4 full scrolls and 3 painted scrolls: Laurel scroll for Magdalen, a Court Baronetcy with a fun Theme and 2 Guardians of Atenveldt. I have 3 more Guardians to put the text on that I painted/inked.

Spinning: plied a bunch in SD and spun some more. I have documented it on IG, need to do better to add to my rav stash or put here. I also spun on my purple at multiple SCA events (drop spinning). I also taught spinning to a few folks at the A&S Collegium and one of my students then won the quarterly Arts of her barony with the article she made from the handspun.

Travel: January was to SC/NC for my SIL/BIL investiture, February was War of the Phoenix, then in March we did Disney for Benton's Birthday, Then in May I went to NOLA for Linnet's 21st, July was SD, October Trip to Prescott for Arts Collegium, November was Washington State for Thanksgiving, December we stayed home thank goodness.

Clothing/Sewing:
Ran a clothing weekend for the ladies of the house to get Fiona clothes which was successful.
I finished mom's quilt project which is documented here. I finished a pair of fighting pants for Ivan which I need to upload a photo of and I made my clothes for my elevation. I also made a pair of pants for myself in SD for SCA which I didn't photograph except one picture of the 1951 singer and the fabric. I also made two new under dresses and a hangerrock for Jan/Feb and Made Benton a coat.

Books:
I read 31 books which isn't too bad. I had hoped to get to 50 but got depressed in Sept/October and my reading shoved off.

So I guess I was productive and busy though I felt work ate my brain but for an average person this would be amazing productivity?

Gym time was not consistent and I'm trying to get myself back to that starting next week. This week is for rest and figuring things out.

Monday....

So, the data I was waiting for didn't get to me until 2pm on Wednesday. I worked until 730pm to get the slide deck up and going. I was the last one in the entire office area and that was creepy. I was so tired and stressed out. We had to cancel our Gate meeting and reschedule to our off Friday. So I did well on my presentation on Thursday. I had the answers and we only had a few actions. Which I working on.

Usually on a Thursday night we get Cane's if I'm just toast...Benton and I went and found out that portion of the city was without power after we got hit by a large monsoon. We had had heavy rain at work, hail on the east side and there were lots of trees down in the area of Cane's. We looked across the street to see that MOD was open and we got pizza. Which was the balm my brain and body needed.

Friday was getting kiddo to school, giving blood, and then sitting in on the prep for our gate meeting and then 2 hours of meeting before I could not be working. I took abit of a break and then moved on to lunch, and taking the cats to the vet. Surprisingly, Spicy is the middle weight cat, weighing an ounce more than Willow. Tasha is still the heavyweight but she and Willow lost a pound since January. Now, maybe that is that we've had them not sneaking kitten chow since Spicy is now on Adult food, it could be they spent a month running around a huge house and getting excercise? Dunno. They go back in for a weigh in in a month. Spicy gets to try steroids for her chewing off her tail tip fur. We haven't started that yet. I need to split the pills and check with her ability to take pills. That will be fun. Spicy got 3 shots, the floofs got 1 shot. Everybody was not happy with me when we got home. I relaxed a bit before I headed off to my massage which was lovely. I did meander around Spirit Halloween before hand and they have some fun Haunted Mansion merch...I may go back for a candle holder.

Got home from my massage and the boys were playing Borderlands. I was tired and I think I played on my phone or did some spinning? I don't remember. I went to lay down and read and was asleep well before Mel came to bed I think.

Saturday I woke up and was...off. I had woke up with a mild headache, I had lots of water and coffee and played animal crossing for a few hours before i just went back to bed. My head was not better and we had a huge monsoon move in and with the massage/blood loss I was down for a few hours. I managed to quell most of it with meds and a drink but oof. Food and a cold shower helped as well and I did not stay up late. I think the everything together was not my best plan. But will remember to not schedule blood and massage on the same day.

Sunday I made sure the get up earlier and get dressed so I was motivated to get moving. I had finished reading #26 and moved on to #27 which is a physical copy of Patricia Briggs Soul Taken. Love this series. Its been nice to get back into the world. After this I think I have a new author to read Christopher Moore and the Pine Cove #1. Anyhoo, I read and drank coffee and then got off my ass and worked on my studio with breaks to read and get water. The studio wasn't bad but it was bugging me and I had old project stuff that needed to be put away and I needed to get fabric out for new things for the mel for fighting, finding things I had lost and getting the top of my dresser/altar area cleaned up and presentable. it took me a few hours but it was worth it. Then I started in on laundry...though I didn't get the bodies buried (i.e. put away). I made dinner of my air fryer tofu with seasame noodles and peas. It was okay but overly salty due to me using the seasoning packet from TJs and the new ponzu style sauce I used to make the peanut sauce. Meh it was edible and fine.

After dinner I finally put my book down long enough to work on the second ahem and third granny square for Poe's tiny chicken. I guess I used a different hook on the first one and the second one came out too big. So I made another one. I had finished up watching League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and then started Black Widow and then mel and I sat and watched it through to the end even though it was 1130pm. We are dumb but I do love that movie. And it was nice to sit and chat and watch it.

So yeah...that was last week and the weekend.

Yesterday I managed to hit two things off my to do list.

The first was to finish reading "Making it So" by Sir Patrick Stewart. Very nice and dense book about his entire life. I learned so much about him and his motivations for things it was neat...but long.

The second thing I finished was the calligraphy on the scroll for Ritchard's Court Barony. I will be getting it flattened and then mounted for sending to him at Fabric War. I'm most decidedly chuffed with its outcome. I will post pictures when I know he's received it.

I also down to two bumps of fiber and I hope I can get the spinning done tonight. Then I can see when I want to ply it....it might be a while since there is so many yards on that bobbin cause its so thin. This is a bit over 3 ounces on the bobbin 3 ounces on the bobbin of laceweight. I'm please but oof that has been a slog. Looking back at my photos I saw the meriona/sparkle that I did last July is just as thin. I almost want to ply them together but I'm not sure. I will determine later. I do have some fiber to go through and figure out what is next to spin.

So the next two things on my list to get done before we leave up north is to get my fabric stash purged for fabric war. (Willa will also be running my table for that). And before we leave I'm going to purge clothes and try to hit the mending pile to clear it. I have a lot of clothes I just need to chuck that don't fit, I hate or I just don't wear and they need to go...including the undies drawer.

Today I also head back to the gym for some light weight training and a good walk.

Book I started reading is #23 "The Butchering Art" by Lindsey Fitzharris which is about the art of medical things in victorian era and how the technology changed the landscape. The first chapter was about the use of ether in surgery and now we are hearing about Joseph Lister. Heard about this on the Stuff You Missed in History class podcast ang I got it for xmas a few years ago. So fun historical read.
ianuk: (Default)
So I managed to sew a lot over the weekend. Not finished where I wanted to be cause everything took effing forever and then I nerfed things and then I was being picky and then....yeah. I also managed to make Benton a coat (still needs neckline binding, hems and a button loop). Which is good honestly. So things I need to finish by Thursday night:
1) hem on apron
2) straps on apron
3) trim on apron
4) hem on underdress
5) Finish Benton's coat
6) find yarn for travel knitting (mitts for Sir Justin)
7) Gather things for gift basket
8) Pack for trip to SC

Benton is off school today and I'm making him take down the tree and I will help him put things away. I have to pack the house lights away which is rearranging things in the laundry which is okay. Its just things I haven't gotten to and then am too tired to do. But I'm back in the sewing groove though and the featherweight needs to get a service...its skipping stitches. I pulled out my kenmore and after I oiled it its still kind of rough So when I finish things for the war I will take them in for service.

So I sewed, I slept and I read this weekend. I finished Iron Widow which was excellent. Fast paced and epic with giant robots and Chinese/Korean mythology and feminism. Its a wild ride. And the clincher at the end is oooh boi. Plus a very cute poly trio.

Now I have to pick a book to read and have books for travel so I will need to see what is on my Kindle queue and if I have paperbacks to travel. I only have hardcovers on my TBR by the bed right now. Those suck on airplanes.

While I'm tired and my shoulder hurt from hunching at my sewing machine I feel good and accomplished. This is good.

Have I made it to the gym or to yoga? No...I'm okay with that...the month before war is always nuts. I'm giving myself some grace.

50in2024 -

#2 Iron Widow
ianuk: (bear)
So I relaxed a ton over the break and that was good for the brain. Talking with my counterpart at work on the performance side she was getting grouchy from over work and could tell once she got home and chilled. I was just exhausted and mentally not even there. Which isn't good in my line of work. But it was good to chill. I didn't get everything done as I had said but better mental health is better. So that is good.

On the mental health bandwagon of reading I managed 42.5 books in 2023 which was a half book down from my 2022 total.

I finished 2 Fuzzy, 2 Furious on the 17th of December and then read #42 which was Paladin's Faith by T. Kingfisher and then started the 43rd book which was Squirrel Girl Universe which I just finished last night. I think me slogging through the 1000 page book and then the 600+ page Enchantress when I should have chucked that book to the side didn't help me but its okay. I will be more choosey this year. I think I will start with Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao. She is a character and broke the book world with finding out of white author shenanigans against authors of color. See this article for more info. But its been recommended by Ed and others and I bought it. I'm also going to go through some comics since I have the entire House of M in hardcover. SO my TBR pile will go down. tee hee.

On the project front I made sure to poke some household folks that we were having arts at our house to get folks out of crafting slumps. I managed to get two necklines done...I will see if they fit today. Mel finished a black belt for kung fu and fixed his fancy belt. Po got her tunic hem recut with some tricks I showed her and then we all had time watching B. Dylan Hollis (she had never seen him OMG). So progress. I will be endeavoring to get the tree down tonight and put away. The weather has turned very cold for the desert and Mel finally got the heat on. it was 25 at the school when I dropped Benton off this AM. The northern house has lots of snow and cold. Brrr. We even had some snow that didn't stick on Sunday afternoon.

So Sunday was Southern War Practice and there was a Laureling and I got dressed in my boy clothes and my warm wool hood, my ducal coat and my cloak for a blustery time. Hung with Ari watching the fighting and getting some photos before we noped out and headed back to Tucson ( We were in Sierra Vista). We changed clothes and met back up for brunch and had a lovely time. I got home and wanted to sew but I was cold and tired and Spicy stole my soul for a nap on the couch. We all frolic'd in the snow while it lasted for a bit and then it was a nice evening of working on the fish hat (sewing in ends) and watching Star Wars Rebels.

I'm at work today and making use of my standing desk (same as I did yesterday at home so I can be more active during the day. Im also sporting a cute sweater dress, leggings and my low boots since the foot is finally allowing me to wear shoes that touch the ankle. Hallelujah! So, little things. I will be heading to the work gym to sign up today and next week I will start with some walking on the treadmill after work on Tuesdays. I hope to do yoga on Thursdays and Sundays and some stuff at home to keep with my mobility theme. Little steps forward.

Monday was boring work wise...though we had some suck show up at the end of the day. More meetings and analysis to follow. I do not like the options at all but we have to go with it when a supplier can't even quote us material until the end of next year. Its just grrr...I wish supply chain had gotten on this way sooner. Sighs. Managed to get through the day and then on to working on the scroll with a quick stop for eating dinner.

But its DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woohoo! I'm very chuffed with the results. Like my idea is now manifest and as I designed. Woohoo! I'm well ahead of the deadline of Saturday and that feels good.

I did skip the gym to get the scroll done. I had been yawning all day and just wanted to stay home and get things done. Its good though I will go Wednesday. Tonight I will finish the trim attachments on the sleeves so then Wednesday I can get the sides on the dress and then it will be hemming and bias application. Yay!

Now its time to get the packing list and find out if we are going as a group in the van (ie Ari with us) since its a 2+ hour drive Saturday morning will be stoopid early. Stoopid early is better with friends.

So I have two mom appointments. I already had the care home set me a travel wheel chair aside for ease. They completely understand and encourage me to do that. She doesn't need to be so weak she has an accident in the home. They had one gal who was perfectly fine fall and break her femur. Its not pretty.

I'm down to 30 pages of the book I was so tired after getting everything accomplished that I just couldn't power through. But tonight I hope to finish it. Then new book!

So Thursday work was grand actually. It was a long day but it was so nice to meet and connect with people. Got done and got home and needed to work on projects but my brain was still in people mode so I called up the apprentice and we got food truck food and headed to the beer house to sit and chat. I got food for Mel too and he met us there after he was done teaching. We have beef shawarma from a ME food truck and stuffed grape leaves...OMG it was heaven. As good or better than the ME place at Dragon Con or the food carts in Peoria near Cat's old Corp office.

We had a lovely time over food and drinks and a great pandora playlist the bartender was playing. The music was not too loud it was just right and good. Had a late evening of fun with the hubby and then we slept in since kiddo was away at camp. And had more fun (wink wink nudge nudge) cause why the hell not?! I started in on sewing and realized that I could not find my bias tape makers...Maybe I lent them out? I don't know. So I headed to joanns and got sucked into the 50% off remnant bin plus got a bias tape maker. Got home and then realized it was the wrong size. Sighs. Had to head back out to get the other size and then had my massage which was nice....and so needed. Picked Benton up from School and then got into make bias tape. Tried to get started on another project I needed to get done for next weekend and didn't have the felt I neeeded. I swear I had some in the right color but I did not. sighs. So Saturday morning after I had breakfast and the like I got the neckline minus the tablet woven trim on by watching a lot of movies. I like the taffeta but next time I do a yoke with it I will cut it on the bias. It was not happy about being forced into a shape and there are some wrinkles I am just going to deal with. But meh I've learned. I did manage to watch Encanto and Coco. I had not seen CoCo and damn you Pixar for making me cry! Then I went to Joanns for the 3rd time in 2 days.

I made this comment and Mel said "like me and Ace Hardware when I do plumbing" and Benton responded with "But mom's good at what she does..." OMG we died. He is so our kiddo. Much love and sarcasm. I got the supplies I needed and bought thread since it was buy 3 get 3 FREE?!!! How could I not? Got home, had dinner and then did the little fun project I've been dreaming about and it turned out perfectly. Like seriously this is amazing and fun and I can't wait for my apprentice to see it.

Sunday I woke up earlyish and got things moving in the studio. I got the side panels sewn and seam finished...yes those are by machine. I'm just going to deal with that I don't have the time. Then I went and played photog for the dojo for Black Belt promotions. Which was nice. Then we went to Guilin for lunch which was super tasty. Then it was home where I finished up the sides of the dress and then got out to work on the scroll. It was slow going and I had to redo somethings but it was super good to make progress. Mel sat and kept me company. It was a truly nice time and shows I have skills I had forgotten. Even Mel was complimentary on some of the things I just can do without any help or setup instructions. Plus I had a nice idea for a tool setup I needed and he was amazed it worked. Work smarter not harder. Honestly.

Got done there and we sat and watched Winter Soldier while I stitched on the tablet woven trim to my dress neckline. Whomever wove it wove it way too tight and I had to use my thimble and needle pullers to get it through the trim. Usually this is a very quick task for me but this took me the entire movie. My hands are aching today and I put on my compression gloves. I need to finish the scroll tonight and then I can finish the dress during the rest of the week. Then I will be ready for the weekend. So close I can taste it.

I hope my stuff with my mom doesn't downer me too much. I may have to call in reinforcements of the BFF kind to help me get things done and sit with me.

I've got 60 pages left in the 35th book of the year and we are heading into the finale. We shall see where this goes. from the Authors notes there is a 3rd book in the works.

I have two mom appt. this week. Luckily they are to here oncology office. Easy peasy but I will be bringing a wheel chair from the home. I'm going to insist. She just can not make it to the office from the front door without issues. And I want it easy for us. Seriously.

She may not like it but its better for her to not stress her body out either.
ianuk: (crow)
Well, the weekend was productive and Monday was very productive. Tuesday just sucked.

Had to take mom to an MRI across town...so 45 min drive each way. It was pouring rain while driving. Mom was fiesty and didn't want to use a wheel chair and she had a lot of issues getting in an out of the car. We had lunch out and she ate well but slowly and she's lost a lot of her manners. Speaking with her mouth full, chewing with her mouth open. I don't know if its cause she's lived alone so long or what...its just odd. She was very weak when we got back to the care facility. So weak infact she couldn't make it up the ramp. I know she had not used the bathroom while we were out and my nose told me she had used her depends. I don't know if she's aware she did. Its sad. We had to sit on the outside bench for a while and then she had to have a caregiver help her inside. Sighs. It was hard...it was hard for me mentally to watch this slow degradation. I did not take it well.

I got home and took a 15min to just sit and not be....then I worked for a few hours but I was so tired and just strung out I took a nap. Mel was nice enough to bring Benton home since he wasn't hitting the practice due to the rain. I woke up when they got home. I was still tired and didn't feel great. But a nap was good thing.

Wednesday wasn't too bad for work...just slow. I left from home at 5pm while still on a call and then went to the yarn tasting for Circulo Yarns. The rep was from Brazil and she was very nice. The yarns we tried were wool free with cotton, acrylic, viscose, bamboo styles. I did not like their 100% acrylic as much as other brands. It was more sticky than I liked and not in a good way. I fell in love with their "bamboo" which is a mix and it was so soft and comes in a neat marled/striped style. I got a skein of the 8990. Not sure what I will do with it yet but there is a lot of yarn on the skein.

I got to chit chat with my friends who I haven't seen in years. Got caught up on the gossip. Had a nice simple meal and a good beer while trying out yarns. Its what I needed. I got home and needed to work on bias tape but I just snuggled up on the couch.

Today Benton left for Sky Camp for the day/night. Its up on Mount Lemmon and they get to hang out at the observatory. He gets back to school tomorrow at lunch. So yay. We get a kid night off and get to sleep and don't need to get things ready for him to be in the school. So I'm at work today since they are asking hybrid folks (especially leadership) to be in at least 2-3 times per week. But since my program area is not set up for us and my new office has a squatter we need to evict I'm sitting near where I had been. The desk is meh. Its nice to see folks though and we've hammered out a lot of things. I've missed the chit chat.

When I get home tonight I hope to get the bias tape made and then head out to get drinks with the hubby.

Still reading #35 which is Saints and Sinners by Jennifer Roberson. I like the characters and its an easy read. This is what I need after Nona. I think next will be Wil Wheaton's autobiography he re-released with commentary. Or I can get into the Laundry Files again. Not sure yet.

The scroll is making good progress. I hope to get good slog done over the weekend to get it just to final touchups next week. I need to finish my dress as well. Its currently hanging out on the dress form and I will be working on that too this weekend. Plus validating Benton has clothes that fit.

So I had the Friday off and things went oddly. I guess I forgot that I had a Thursday massage not a Friday one and got charged a cancellation fee cause I had confirmed on text but hadn't looked at the date (22 versus 23) but in the end this is okay. I had gotten my flu shot and the new shiny bivalent pfizer vaccine. This was after I dropped off Benton for school with his boat and after breakfast burritos. Then it was shots and a drive into work to get my brain washed for another year. They added 20+ pages to this years info and wow that was a lot to digest. But all good. Then I went and spent time with Mom. She looks much better than the last time and got a bit more color and flesh in her face. She's still weak though and I don't think that will change. We talked while sitting out on the porch and it was nice. I knit and we chatted. I do think that she's still not quite getting that she's dying and its not going to be a long. Covid really took the wind out of her. We shall see what the doc says in a few weeks but I was very blunt about what he said so she would listen. He mentioned hospice multiple times mom, that was to clue you in that its your choice when you want to be done with things. So we shall keep on trucking but I still don't think she will last till Christmas.

Anyhoo, after that I came home and chatted with the boys and then I went to read and fell dead asleep for a few hours. Seriously, passed the fuck out. But that is what my body needed. Got up about 830pm and had some water etc and ice cream cause why not. Then I was back in bed by 10.

Saturday was nice and I slept in, read and finally got my shower and started to move things from my studio to storage from my work office stuff. Got that done and relaxed, we had pizza for dinner cause Mel had spent time in the shop after a hard workout/black belt testing and pizza was good. Mel played video games and I read. I went to bed early cause I had an "plans" for sunday which I will chat about on another post. I managed a 12 hour day and got Willa's scroll to 80% done. now the heavy lifting. Much thanks to folks who helped me with that.

Monday I worked hard and was able to make it to the gym even though my right ear canal is unhappy. its got a raised sore bit and using my endoscope and can't tell what is causing it...it so I will let it be and see if it clears up but its bothering me enough I can only wear one ear bud. Anyhoo...went to the gym and did the crazy ass workout. It was good. I got home had dinner, watched the new Baumgartner video and then started in on getting the studio converted to a sewing studio. This time versus putting my work table in the middle of the room I kept it in the back...when I cut fabric out I will have to move it out but its okay. This will work. The cats are happy that I have ironing board up and immediately have covered it in hair. sighs....

But I will be sewing this week which is good as well as getting materials and path forward on the last 80% of the scroll project. Woot. But muse is happier and that is good.

On the book front I'm 75% done with Nona the Ninth and really enjoying it. This is more straight forward of a story telling experience than the last two books but things are still building to some crazy ass plot twists. I'm here for it...I just got confused last night of a character showing up and now I need to go back to the previous book and go..."oh...now I get it..."
ianuk: (caw!)
Well yesterday I got up and got my boobsmashed for the year and then kept up the momentum on things. I think my brain and body like that I was up earlier and had transition time from sleep to being awake and moving to taking kiddo to school etc. I had energy which was nice.

So I worked and even though I was tired it was accomplished tired not exhausted tired. I went to the gym (woot) and did a hard workout. So many reps...when most of it was 3x20 for lots of things..yikes so many reps.

I got home, ate dinner, loafed on the couch and since everyone was making new clothes for the weekend I went through my closet to pull things. I need to tweak the one peplos dress I have but I may save that for Sunday. I have a nice light linen long sleeve dress that will be fine with my rus apron so I look more laurely than shlubby. I really need to make new clothes...but I need to get that scroll done but I have a plan for a new dress or two for the Arts Champion.

I then made a long art related phone call while I folded and put away the laundry hydra from Sunday. Who is this person who is not living our of a clean laundry basket? This was a good balm on my art brain and it was a reminder I'm fucking behind but we can catch up.

I was sore from the work out so even though my brain was buzzing it was the good buzz not the anxiety buzz so I slept okay.

Got up this morning and was up and drinking coffee before anything else and that has helped. Got plans, got a to do list and things will be okay.

Mom's birthday is today and Amazon delivered her present (a cat squishmallow) and I will be picking up 2 dozen donuts for her and we have an appt today. So not a big celebration but a nice thing. Its probably her last birthday but I need to not think about that.

Also, the moon pic I mentioned yesterday:
ianuk: (beer)
So this whole month has been nuts with appointments for mom. She had radiation on her hip to help with the pain. She had and full head MRI and a full PET scan. Plus all of her normal appts. This has been tough on me and her. She's in pain, having to get transported a lot. Hard on me cause its a constant shuffle of work etc. She's seeming very weak to me and just not normal weak. She's also just been a bit more not cognizant on things. Which is concerning. Thursday (7/21) was a stellar day of finding out her brain has more tumors and then her PET scan on Friday showed that she has larger tumors in her lungs, sternum and pelvic bones. They are going to try doubling her chemo med and see what happens but I'm not sure what will happen yet. I figured the drugs wouldn't be working in about 5 months from now, not now. But I don't seem to get what I want lately, not sure why I'm surprised. I've got a call into the Doc about the plan for the additional radiation they want to do. I got the test results before he did. Which is a fun thing now...sighs.

To add insult to injury, we had a incident at work Thursday at the plant that does my hardware. Everyone is safe but they had an accidental turn on of a battery when it shouldn't have been able to be turned on. Folks got evacuated and for the weekend and now things are moving on a failure review. So that was a fun. Still fun. We are shut down and this sucks. But time and the review board will figure it out. I'm part of the team so yeah so much work and my brain is sideways at times.

So I spent the weekend in a daze in a way. I wanted to badly just get blind drunk and pass the eff out. But I didn't...I did have a few drinks but nothing crazy, not even buzzed. Friday night I had dinner with Ari and Thyra...it was good to chat and not be with my mom or in my house. Saturday AM I slept way in...past when I wanted to get up for the KWHSS...but classes I could attend started at 6am my time. oof. But I got up, played stardew and then went to a facial. It was with Brook versus Marci and I really don't like Brook. I will wait until Marci comes back from leave. I just don't vibe with her at all and she doesn't really dig into the extractions as much I think she should. She didn't touch my nose at all....like I know I got gunk there...wth? I did not tip well but it was a good self care for me. Then I got cat food from the vet and home to get dressed and spent a few hours as my sCA self and attended classes. It was nice, I chatted with folks until 7pm and then I was peopled out. Mel and Benton were playing games so I took myself to the bedroom to lay down and watch things on my phone. I was too tired to think of grabbing my ipad which has a bigger screen. I was up later reading. The Twilight Watch got interesting and then that part ended and I'm now at the 3 portion of the last book and yeah. So weird still. I hope to finish it this week as it will be Book 24 of the year.

What was nice was that during the last class I finished off the shawl I had started a few days before coming home from SD. I got it washed and blocked yesterday. Today I will sew in the 4 ends of the yarn. I also managed to purge my bathroom of old makeup and stuff I don't need. Its way cleaner under the sink (I had had to remove everything due to Mel installing a shiny new faucet the previous weekend). Plus I washed all of my makeup brushes which they really, really needed. So I'm all set if I want to do makeup lol. But it felt good to get rid of 5 shopping bags full of crap. And now my tiny countertop and the top of the toilet are clean/organized.

On the project front I have been slowly sketching the scroll for the apprentice. I need to finish that up soon so I can start the next part. I'm going to rip out a sock I started for Mel cause the pattern isn't the right number of stitches. I had just finished the cuff so its not too hard to fix. I have a baby blanket set to start just need to figure out the color progression. So lots of things to start and I still have 1 shawl on the needles that is in time out, 2 other baby projects as well that I started and havne't made much progress on and some of those kids are years old now. So I'm not sure what to do there. I should just finish them and have an FO and send them off and not worry about it.

So what do you do with old FO? do you just finish them or let them sit some more? I also have to think of a new outfit for my apprentice getting her laurel....I can't look like ass and wear something old yanno. She's my first graduate so its important. Sighs...too much todo. Well back to work.
ianuk: (don't wanna)
As I stated Sunday sucked and now I'm having the emotional hangover and extra spicy brain weasels. My allergies are kicking my ass and the steroid shot the doc gave me hasn't seemed to make any difference. I'm trying to get back to the gym this week. Monday was cancelled cause Keith was at a concert. I took Willa and Erika with me to get mani-pedis and that was a good plan. I now have sparkly lilac nails and that is nice. Tuesday was just a lot of work and I was so tired. I'm just tired in general and whether that is from my allergies, my brain or something else I don't know. I know that Mel and I have been staying up too late but meh.

Tonight I will hit the gym and then hopefully get a walk in before I set to seam ripping kiddo tunics to expand the arms and sides. I hope I have some of the fabric still to help. I think I do for at least 2 of them so they will be first I fix. I think I need them for the weekend. I need to check.

I did manage to spend (and then some) my gift from [personal profile] danabren and Cyborg. I got the kit for this shawl Happy Hour Shawl using the following yarns: main yarn is Aphrodite with this mini skein set in Too Infinity which I think will be a nice bright shawl to make.

I'm reading Legends and Lattes...its been nice. I've finished the knitting and making up of the mitts I started for myself at moms. They are pretty and I like them. I will probably do this pattern again in a yarn I had from a trip in Arkansas.

So we are camping this weekend and we haven't planned any of it. Lol. I will worry about that tomorrow. its modern camping but I think our cots and modern tents are in the trailer. Oh gods. Oh well.

I have socks to cast on for Ivan and need to find the toe up version of the one I've been doing or be cray cray and do them two at a time? might be time for that much crazy. So we shall see.
ianuk: (laurel)
The last two weeks have been busy with appointments with mom and SCA work. I had a scribal assignment that needed to to be done for Coronation. I don't do the hand the piece was based on and had to practice and get my hands to do a square quadrata. Then I find out that the person who did the amazing illumination had been callig'ing in a totally round batarde hand. Bitch! you sent me the expemplar! I matched it! We had a good laugh. Luckily she is a dear friend and was tickled I was trying to make her scroll look even more on point. But its a lesson for me that I can learn new things and to ask the right questions. It was a really nice weekend minus a few weird things.

I had planned to drive up on Friday night that way we had a 20 min drive to site versus 2.5 hours. This was a really good plan and we used the nice box lady to help us not get stuck in a huge traffic collision on I10. Then Saturday was nice, we got to site, had help getting things setup and it was just a nice day of hanging with the hosuehold peeps and watching some fighting and chatting and drinking and me working on putting trim on the last tunic I have. Got that done just as the crown was stepping down and then we had a step up court in not enough light....this was planned poorly. And then the new King wanted another Knight's circle. I have an 11 year old, its 730 at night and we didn't leave site until almost 9pm. Luckily things got packed and loaded and mel just had to pick up his stuff. We could leave tents up overnight so we just got things set and home. Benton got a shower while I hit MOD for pizza and then I got a shower. I was so dirty but so glad that I wore my greek on a hot and dry day. I looked good and was cool. So late night. By the time I got to bed the boys were both snoring. Benton had spent all day playing with kids on the play ground and the field to the side and being an awesome kiddo with all of the little kids. We had two sets of different parents that told us how awesome he was. Makes me proud of my kiddo.

Sunday we slept in and then hit site...we weren't planning on spending the whole day but we did. Rook was there fighting and Dominique came back out and we had a wonderful falconer named Ysabel and her Harris Hawk Oscar who sat with us while I worked on my reign hood which now finally has the seams finished and the hem done. Now I need to make the thin trim for the edges and do the embroidery. I have a plan, it will be slow but nice handwork for courts and the like. I did get called to be stunt signet since Sam didn't show and we needed names on scrolls etc. I did it but was a bit annoyed I didn't get told it was my job that day. I'm fine doing it but my quick kit was really poor on supplies. I need to get things set for travel again. But it was fun to sit with our principal herald and get some information. This new crown will be interesting. Mark was crown a long time ago and things have changed (for good and bad) so some things will have to be adapted for them. Our Queen is new to this society having only starting coming out during my last reign. The roses are stepping up to help her so I need to see what else we can do.

We got packed up and headed to Rudy's for dinner. Rook had never been and he was very happy to have a new place to know has good food. We then got home about 830pm. We still need to take tents out of the van but personal stuff is done. But man we are all tired from the weekend. Made my monday really hard

I finished book book 13: McLaurin's Lady. Started and finished Book 14: Spirits of New Orleans and started Number 15: All Systems Red by Wells. I'm liking murderbot.
ianuk: (crow)
Finally after 722 days our crown stepped down. We left Tucson with the boy after school let out and then drove to Prescott Valley for dinner at Brian's pub. It was good food and the pumpkin beer was the best I've ever had. They did a cinnamon and sugar rim on the glass...OMG. We stayed at the Holiday Inn per usual and they have updated their rooms since we were there last and that was nice. Got up and to site on Saturday on time and got the tent up between Mel and I and a hand from Tati and Mingo. Then it was like hurry up to do scroll things (drop off) and see people. Court was nice and it was there that I presented Wolgrim's scroll. Here is a picture of me lofting the 44.2 lbs of rune stone up while Wander read the scroll text.

It was very well received. I sent a picture to Wolgrim on the Discord and he was aghast. I let it sit at the A&S display with my 1 page of documentation, 1 page of bibliography pictures and the 1 page of transliteration.

I'm super proud of this project. Like super proud. This is my magnum opus right now.

Here is the full album of start to finish of the scroll (click the picture).

After that and chatting with folks at A&S I was kinda overwhelmed and sat in our shade and sewed trim on my tunic for the next day. It was relaxing and what I needed. Mel had fun fighting and didn't push and still made it into the top 12. Then it was a wait and chat and take things down before sunset court. It was nice, the weather was cool and the only real issue is that this is the off season so all of the local places close for food at 8pm and were booked by when we left site at 730. We made do with Sonic and headed back to the hotel for showers and an early bed. Benton was worn the eff out. He played hard all day long and when he woke up the next morning he was so sore. Poor kiddo. Growing is hard. The amount of people who couldn't believe how big he had gotten in the 19 months since they last saw him was funny. There were folks who hadn't seen him in longer since we had a lot of out of town guests from the outlands/artemesia. Got to see Nikki, Casca & Melissa, Cecilia, Bela, Gabe, Elanor Peregrine, Abby and Kaz, and Helga.

Sunday we slept in a bit and then got to site to hang out in teh shade. We did not set up the tent just set up under the trees which was just fine. Hung out with Olrun and Dominique while I tried to get my knitting project back on track (I failed), so I spun. We left site at 2pm after mel had his fill of fighting melee and then got stuck in traffic on the I17. It took us 3 hours to get down the mountain when it usually takes 1.5. Ugh. But we made it to Rudy's BBQ and had early dinner. Then it was a quick 1.5 hours home.

We were tired when we got home but unloaded all of the needed stuff and then it was an other early bedtime. All in all a good weekend. Now its time to pack for NOLA.
ianuk: (Default)
When last I wrong almost a month a go. Things were progressing at work on things, the porch project had progress and my shawl was back on track. The now status is the last month has been busy and so short! Well, On the reading front. I finished #17 Mortal Danger which was a re-read from a long time ago and it was fun. I think read #18 Squirrel Girl and the Great Lakes Avengers which is comic pack of all of the SG and the GLA. So much fun in that...OMG. Then I started #19 Blood Lines by Eileen Wilkes and that is been okay thus far. I've been sucked back into some really long fanfic.

Mel and I managed to get packed and rolling to GWW with only forgetting one thing and that was the banners. Oops but of all of the things to forget that was one of very minimal impact on our enjoyment of the war. Lol. We took a very different route than we used to and it did not involve crawling up the I5 for hours. It was nice and through country we haven't seen before. It went up the 215 and then onto back highways to meaner north and west to the I5 which we were on for like 15 miles. It was nice. Found out our site with Gullibursti was in the same spot we always camp. The rest of Atenveldt was over on the other side. It was nice and having flushing potties and sinks right next to us was awesome. Well, the ladies had that. The men's room was out of order and they had a priv and handwash station. I brought projects to work on and money to spend and that was my plan. We had a really nice time camping with Roger and Rochelle. Their new little storage trailer with integral kitchen was super neat. Our camp was nice and period looking and just cozy. Without the banners folks couldn't find us but meh, it works okay.. It was so nice to sit and chat with people. I hit up the fiber area and taught Rochelle to spin. The class lists weren't much of anything I wanted to learn or didn't know and that was okay as well. I bought a new necklace from Maggie that has period beads in it. We got trim and things at White Wolf and Phoenix. I picked up a few pairs of earrings from Mistress Morgan and just a lot of other things. We had breakfast and lunch in camp and then hit merchants for dinner. The meat pie vendor...OMG.from Oscar's Meat Pies and wow. We ate a lot of them.

I managed to help marshal the field and castle battles on Saturday. We were there for Bjorn's knighting and they were short marshals and well, I'm authorized and can marshal its all good. It was a good time and very weird being on the Caid side of things. I did get to yell at my husband for fighting around a corner and explain very nicely to archers that no, you can't fire across the field in the direction they were since it was into spectators.(head desk). The scenarios were not complex we just had to remember when archery was and the shooting conventions. Keeping it simple which I really like. Sat and chatted with lots of folks and just enjoyed being at an event with no responsibilities and no requirements to do anything. It was so good. I put in 4 hours for marshalling and then handed my volunteer tickets to a newcomer who was there to find out about the auction. :)

I had fun with some night photography and just in general had a nice time.

Got back and the porch project is now done except for minor cleanup and painting. Woot! I did have a very down week though last week. Not sure if it was allergies (fuck california) and the let down of fun times or hormonal or moon stuff or mercury being mercury? but I was off last week. Better now but still annoying cause I was doing good before that. So we shall see how this week goes.

Coronation is Saturday and we drive to Prescott Friday. Should be a good time.
