Work just rolled back their DEI and the phrasing makes me twitch. I will post more on that later but I was livid when I read it and wanted to start day drinking.

But I left work (from home) at 130 and trundled to the sewing shop to take my serger class. It was a small 6 person class and I did learn things which was nice. I then had to wait for my kenmore to get brought back to the shop but I donated my Juki to them for charity and then got my feather weight and the kenmore back.

I hit an antique store for a quick spin around and found a brought from Queen Liz for not Estrella. I then hit Sprouts for things non-dairy that I needed. That store is not my normal sprouts and everything is weirdly placed but I was in and out pretty quick.

Got home and Benton was annoyed that his school laptop wasn't logging in and he was tired and cranky. I made tacos for dinner and he ate after his shower and then went to bed pretty early. I sat down to finish up the beads on the stems of the laurel, taught myself the fly stitch. I'm using DMC Diamant for the leaves. Things I've learned is to use short sections since the 3-ply splits and gets weird. Use a very short tail and keep the angle very deep for the stitch. I really need to find my stitching stand. But I'm pretty chuffed at the results thus far.

This is where I ended last night with 2.5 leaves done and the stems mostly beaded.
Progress 2/4/25

It sparkles nicely and the recipient wanted progress picks to keep her motivation up. She also works in the same industry and is dead inside for work and motivation is hard so I get that. Help with the brain meats with progress photos is what I can do.

I also booked my trip to San Jose (solo) to see her elevation at West Crown. So that should be fun. I'm also going to hit up the Winchester Mystery House while I'm there cause REASONS.

The end of the week before the war was busy with work and projects and things. Mel was teaching locally and in Phoenix for some kung fu stuff. We started in on project with the trailer on Saturday morning and it was clear we were in over our heads. We had to take everything out of the trailer that was bolted in cause the wiring ran behind things. I called in Work Bob and that was perfect. I'm glad I had bought the extra long cable (29 feet) and the solder splices etc. It was a good plan. It still got some weirness on the wheel hubs so we may have to rewire those but honestly, we know how to get to it and its take one small panel off. We with Bob's help we got that and the water proofing done (flex seal is gold...seriously awesome). I got the dress done and spent Sunday afternoon with errands and knitting on Justin's mitts. I got them done minus the weaving in ends by bedtime. that was 6 inches of knitting and a thumb. So all good. Monday was everything took too long but I managed everything else. We were done and loaded and packed by 9pm. Everything minus toiletries. That is really good.

Got up at 6am, got boy up, got the van hooked up to the trailer and we left at 715am. Got to site just a bit after 930. I took a prescription ibuprofen and got the map rejiggered around the water path in camp. Mel got there and we started getting our plan of attack while other folks showed. We had a very small crew of Me, Mel, Benton, Ari, Dominique, her hubby Steven. We were later joined by Monique, Tym and Poe. The ground there is hard AF. I luckily can switch hit on pounding hammers and I'm glad I bought a new 3lb long handled sledge but we had to pull out the 6lb sledge to help some things. Luckily we all talk, we've set this up before...things were a bit jumbled in the trailer which helped us not at all but we got it going. We were so tired when we completed and when folks just crashed after 830pm. Wednesday we got the flair up and and other things and then Ari and tooled around merchants and in general we all relaxed. I really don't remember what else we did but we got the camp settled, hung out with folks chatted with more folks, had mead, drank beer (homebrew) and in general relaxed with folks. This was the first war we really let Benton "off leash" to do his own thing. He helped at water bearing and at youth corner and with merchants etc. He made boffers and sold some and just had a good time. He did not hit the archery range cause it was windy and cold. I don't blame him. Everyone kept telling Mel and I how awesome he was and how helpful he was with waterbearing and youth corner so yanno...we have a good kiddo.

I did some shopping getting some roman style jewelry from Mistress Fiona. I got a new hood from Mistress Amy Marie and a new laurel medallion from Duke Arthur. Bought benton a few things like a new mug and a fox tail. I also got a new bowl from Cactus Fire pottery.

They had a demo area setup in the town square adn I had no idea that was happening (grumble grumble social media only on FB grumble grumble) but I did talk with Baron Diego doing blacksmithing, with Lord Zagan for brewers, and the Outlands folks with their own period bead furnace. I made a bead. It got stuck and split but I will glue it back together. The glass is what I need to buy...its different COE/Melt temp than our modern glass (duh) and yeah I so want to make a portable one now again. Hopefully sometime this fall. But it was a good time all around. I did a bit of knitting. I marshalled, Mel took jackie as a Squire (I still need to loade that to YT)

My ankle was not happy with all of the setup and teardown and walking and standing. Nope.

Grand Court was fun and pretty. We had to wait for almost the closing of court for the surprise offer for Magdalen for laurel. They just posted to YT the whole of court so hopefully it made it in since the light was low. To say she was gobsmacked is an under statement. She was heralding the court and her hubby (part of teh Whiskey Bards) came running in as they were closing down court to bring up a need....it was perfect. We got back to camp prepared to get itno food prep to find that Lady Fiona had done all of it. We were amazed. (court was at 6pm our dinner time so yeah). We are all now going to get her a patterned up for clothes to teach her to sew and make her clothes and trim as a thank you. We need to schedule our sewing nights.

So after dinner I was handling mead and the fire cause the Duke was doing dishes. TRM arrive and we call everyone to the fire. Well, HRM bestowed upon me her Queen's Grace. I was gobsmacked. I'm graceful by title only...I'm clutzy, I'm brash, I speak my mind and not always with sweetness and light. But I've inspired HRM Aesa and is the oldest Kingdom Award. We filled lots of mugs that night and had a nice time by the fire. Sunday was going to be early and tear down day for us.

Tear down went pretty smoothly but boy was I so tired by the time we finished. The house hold stuff went well and we are a good team to walk through and do things. Benton and I got home before Mel since he dropped the trailer off at Ed's. Luckily Chris was home for me to get my house keys since he watched the cats. I managed to get the van unloaded mostly before Mel got home. Benton was....off...realized later he had not taken his meds and was coming down from sugar (we may have ate a bag of TJ's scandanavian sour swimmers on the way home). But we got it unloaded, coolers emptied and the things out of our trailer we needed and our trailer put away by 430 or so? I made the decision to get burgers from Graze and that was perfect. Benton got a shower and a bath and was in bed early. I was enjoying kitten time though she's more small cat now. All good she's almost 10 months and is filling out her face since her spay.

So that was war...this week has been hella long with work adn I didn't really take Monday off. We haven't finished putting war away yet but hope to get it done tonight and tomorrow.

I did one thing that is making me happy which is I joined the work gym on Thursday. I'm going to try to be at work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday so I can weight train on Tue/Thursday myself and then take the 5pm yoga class on Wednesday and still hit knit night. Its ambitious but I used to be able to do this. Its gonna be hard on Benton a bit cuase I will need to drop him off early to get to work early to let myself start at 730 or earlier. But he used to do that too. It gives me Monday's and Fridays free and lets me also hit yoga over a weekend class (like I plan to do this weekend).
I will also get pictures up too. I forgot to do that. But we survived.

Books I finished #7 Moon Spinners and now am about 40% through #8 Real Murders by Charlaine Harris. This is the first book in the Aurora Teagarden novels which I've watched all of the Hallmark Mystery Movies so I'm familiar with all of the characters. What I did not expect was the overly whiney woe is me I'm single from Aurora but I'm getting over it. All good....its schlocky and fun.

Well it was MLK day and I had Benton get Christmas down from the house and I helped put it away. So that is done and dusted. The tree is a thing to wrangle and the closet it goes into and the place the rest of stuff is stored is Master level tetris. But we got it done. I also got my laundry done (minus the hang and dry stuff which needs my studio to not have the ironing board setup so that will be worked tonight while I'm working on things.

1) hem on apron (marked and in work)
2) straps on apron (in work)
3) trim on apron
4) hem on underdress
5) Finish Benton's coat
6) find yarn for travel knitting (mitts for Sir Justin)
7) Gather things for gift basket (in progress)
8) Pack for trip to SC

I got the underdress hem cut and pinned and the apron I decided to get Ari to help me get the hem even. This had a really funny convo between me and her and Aesa. Ari could not grok that the back hem is longer than the front hem cause some of us have butts. lol. But I stood and she got it marked and I will cut it tonight and pin and sew. This is longest apron dress I have made. It will be wonderful for the event in SC which the high is 34 and at a Girl Scout camp. And for War of the Phoenix which we are expecting to be cold. The herringbone is a cotton flannel style and so snuggly. Its only about 4-5 inches off the floor but that will be nice and warm.

On the book front I started the 3rd book of the year which is the Omnibus for the House of M. Yes, comic books. Its 1300 pages of pretty and scary stuff. I've also downloaded a few books to my kindle for the weekend travel. So I will probably ahve concurrent books going. House of M is also like 5 inches thick.

So tonight will be working on getting the apron dress hemmed and the straps on it. Then on Wednesday I can get Benton's coat done with hems etc on machine. So with all going well all I will have to do on Thursday is to put on some trim on the dress and pack. Its cutting it closer than I wanted but I added the coat so meh.

Well yesterday I got up and got my boobsmashed for the year and then kept up the momentum on things. I think my brain and body like that I was up earlier and had transition time from sleep to being awake and moving to taking kiddo to school etc. I had energy which was nice.

So I worked and even though I was tired it was accomplished tired not exhausted tired. I went to the gym (woot) and did a hard workout. So many reps...when most of it was 3x20 for lots of things..yikes so many reps.

I got home, ate dinner, loafed on the couch and since everyone was making new clothes for the weekend I went through my closet to pull things. I need to tweak the one peplos dress I have but I may save that for Sunday. I have a nice light linen long sleeve dress that will be fine with my rus apron so I look more laurely than shlubby. I really need to make new clothes...but I need to get that scroll done but I have a plan for a new dress or two for the Arts Champion.

I then made a long art related phone call while I folded and put away the laundry hydra from Sunday. Who is this person who is not living our of a clean laundry basket? This was a good balm on my art brain and it was a reminder I'm fucking behind but we can catch up.

I was sore from the work out so even though my brain was buzzing it was the good buzz not the anxiety buzz so I slept okay.

Got up this morning and was up and drinking coffee before anything else and that has helped. Got plans, got a to do list and things will be okay.

Mom's birthday is today and Amazon delivered her present (a cat squishmallow) and I will be picking up 2 dozen donuts for her and we have an appt today. So not a big celebration but a nice thing. Its probably her last birthday but I need to not think about that.

Also, the moon pic I mentioned yesterday:

This past weekend was the mid-year virtual KWHSS. I only found out about it the previous weekend at Aten 50 year from a household member. When we were chatting. So I attended classes and social time and learned quite a few things. During all of that I worked on my CCC entries. I got the hat done. Its drying from blocking. The dress....well [personal profile] danabren was right...don't cut out things while drunk. Now the cutting was find but I didn't double check any math and that was past me's problem. But I sewed the dress and it was skin tight.....not what you need for layer 3 over your boobs and fluffiness. So, I set it aside on Saturday night and knit during the last few classes. Sunday I got up and took more classes (one on making parchement) and did measurements, chatted on text with the arts crewe and cut whole new larger and longer gussets. Then I moved up the goes to match the added width since I had cut them long to start with due to the math error. It now fits. Yay! Though mel was confusing me by saying it was too big...he though I wanted it super fitted. Honey, its going over a pleated underdress...I need the room!

The apprentice is awesome and picked up tasty meat vittles at Forbes Butcher shop. They are super good (spendy though) but I used their bacon to make a diary free carbonara. the bacon while fatty crisped up perfectly and didn't have extra water content. It was worth it for that alone I think. But the dairy free parmesan I grated is perfect (brand is Violife Parm Wedge). I modified the Alton Brown recipe in his latest cookbook for breakfast carbonara. Tasty. Also since it was fresh cured bacon we actually needed to add salt. That was bizarre. So good. 10/10 I'm making it again.

After I made dinner I was on the West Kingdom Scriptorium Zoom. That was nice. Got to chat with folks from all over and talk through different ways to do stuff. Everyone learns differently and for me square hands are hard. I had Palmer method writing drilled into me for decades so I can't switch well. So, its okay. Had a nice time honestly and worked on my dress and got 1.5 seams hand finished. So all good. I will be trying to stop by there more. I need the influence to scribe more and I have commissions to work on anyway. My scribal supplies and my sewing machine are just staring at me right now shoved to the side of the desk. Sighs.

I also gave blood yesterday and for the first time in a really long time it hurt. And I got woozy later. So I think I was dehydrated so that is a thing. I've been slamming water a lot.

So this week I have to finish the dress and then get gussied up in the full ensemble for nice daylight pictures which means try to finish by friday so I can get things to the dry cleaner and then me in it. Hopefully I can accomplish this but oof lots of work. I can do it. Plus I have Friday off though I have a volunteer thing for work but its on zoom so I can sit and sew.

The other things we did do was unpack and setup the new tiffany lamps we bought. Trying to keep up with the 1920s aesthetic and they are so nice. course now I have a mix of compact fluorescent bulbs which have yellow light versus the LED which are white light. I will be changing things out for better light quality. We do want to replace the ceiling lights in the front room and the kitchen with tiffany style but need to pick one.

Last week I was super asthma-y and stuffed up. A bit of research shows that lots of things I'm very allergic to starts to sprout/bloom and they usually make me miserable and I get a sinus infection in late January/February almost every year. So, I rested, upped my meds, made sure to take my controller med and started recovering by late Friday. I did take off part of Thursday to sleep and I think that helped but I couldn't be sussed to do anything but read and watch TV. That is okay. Honestly, so I rested and then on Saturday got a really really good shower and attended the Atenveldt 50 Year event. I took a class hosted by a gal in the Outlands on Beads from Ribe which was lots of fun. She had a nice camera on her torch so we could see her building things in real time. Then I hung out in the Kitchen with Domingo for a bit just chatting before taking a class on the way fighting started in Atenveldt by Arthur of Lockehaven and he had 8mm video to show of things from 1970 and lots of fun pictures. It was really neat to hear him and other speak on things at the beginning. Then it was a panel on the founding of the kingdom and stories from all of the old guard. It was neat. There was also a memorial presentation for all of those who we lost. Then I went back and hung out in the Kitchen some more. The whole time I was cutting out fabric for my overdress and sewing on my featherweight so I got a bunch done. I had also been day drinking pretty hard so when it came time to cut silk and work on the neckline I just stopped. There was a short howdy from the crown and then there was a virtual feast. I did not stay for that since I hadn't seen mel or Benton most of the day so I changed out of my tunic and put on a tank top and had a nice dinner and a few more drinks. I worked on my naalbinding on the hat.

Sunday I woke up and was not hung over which was surprising. I read and then got going on my personal laundry and the dress. I logged onto a zoom for Art Show and Tell with the Kingdom MOAS and that was nice to chat and keep motivated while folks showed stuff off. I used my phone to text the arts chat and my SIL for advice on things and that was also good. I got the neckline set and pinned to relax into shape on my dress form and will hand sew the edges of it on tonight and then get the rest of the dress together to see how this pattern fit. I've put the middle eastern extra gores in the upper back to help with my hulk shoulders and I think its going to fit quite nice. I will probably finish the sleeves first before its all sews together but again this is going really well.

I then spent more time on my hat and got it to the 'no more increasing' part of the process. Which is good. So progress all around. I did not get the christmas stuff down. But honestly I don't care. We will get it down today at least in the house. Benton has the day off for MLK day and he can help.

It was nice to wake up today and not feel off. I actually have energy and feel normal and motivated. I don't think I've felt this way in a really long time. I would like this to maintain. I've missed this energy.
ianuk: (don't wanna)
Friday ended with a very stressful meeting filled day and I really didn't get to stop thinking about work until I shut things off at 530 after having been "ON" with tons of zoom meetings since 730AM. I had meetings with upper level program management most of the day and it was a lot of diplomacy and some engineering discussion on an issue that just popped up. It was hard. I had a huge headache and made myself a big G&T and picked up my knitting and made Benton watch a movie with me. We watched Age of Ultron since we are going through the movies in order with Benton and it was fun. That movie really needed to be two movies for how much stuff was in it. We had spicy ramen dinner, had a visit from Ari (who we almost poisoned with the dinner, oops) and I went to bed with the goal to get up and hit the gym and get things going for the day.

I woke up really rough and didn't feel right. Got hit with bad GI issues and was glad I didn't go to the gym and I basically stayed near my bathroom for the day and snuggled up in bed reading or watching things on my iPad. It was rough. I had toast and mashed potatoes. I had manage one outing to get a pickup from our B&B which was nice and then back home. Thinking on it I was the only one to have tummy issues and I was also the only one eating the really spicy guacamole and then following it up with really spicy soup. I think the gauc had gone off. I went to bed early after sitting up in the living room for a while.

So Saturday was shot. Ugh.

Sunday I woke up and felt better. I was hungry and that was good. I had some coffee and a donut and then got a really good shower where I decided to blow dry my hair. The tippy tips of my hair now reach my tailbone tattoo which is cool. I had chopped about an inch of really wispy stuff off the end of my braid on Friday. Its much more grey than it had been and i can see where the dye is slowly pulling off the grey since those bits are this weird shiny auburn cause I have silver not grey. So its a thing.

After that I hit the stores and got my gifty from Danabren (THANK YOU!) and then home. I was tired and hangry...I had a very late lunch and then sat on my duff. Mel came in to play video games and he got me a naalbinding needle so I just started my hat for the CCC. I'm working with my own handspun which is awesome.

Did I get to any of my to do list? No. Did I have a nice weekend even though I had food poisoning? Yeah, I did. I even worked on my CCC project even though its not the part I expected to work on. It take a lot of brain power for me to cut out fabric...and I'm still trying to decide how I want the silk front to look (side split versus center split) and what length of sleeve? Short or long?
Thoughts?
Here is the trim and the silk:

And this is the overdress linen:
ianuk: (here's looking at you)
Well, when last I posted we were getting ready for the xmas holiday. It has since passed and we are looking right at the start of the new year. Seriously, how does almost 2 weeks pass so quickly? The holiday was quiet and relaxing. We had no melt downs from little boys, everyone was happy with gifts, we ate really well and had time with family and friends.

It was a Skylander's Xmas with the whole family getting some for various versions of the game. I also got given Disney Infinity which has all of the Disney and Marvel characters you can think of....so much fun but hard to play when you are tired. The world building is intense. We figured out quickly that Minecraft makes me sea sick and I won't be playing an of that probably. Which is sad, I was actually looking forward to that. We had [livejournal.com profile] public_shaylan with us for a few days and it was so nice.

Over the last two weeks I've also went to the Tucson drawing studio with [livejournal.com profile] elinor_dear and [livejournal.com profile] bewilde for Live Model drawing on Sunday mornings. I was very, very nervous for the first session, it was really the first time I've ever drawing anything that was real and not just a copy from a book or the internet. It was intimidating and 3 hours is a long time to be drawing but it has been good. They start out with 5 5 minute poses of the model, a 15 min pose, a 30 min pose followed by 45 minute pose and then a pose with what ever time is left. There are breaks between the longer poses for us and the model to stretch relax etc.

There was marked improvement from last week to this week. It really helped that we got there early and were able to get a much better angle so we were in, as Bridget calls it, "Foreshortening Hell."

cut for NSFW )

The model we had this last time was wonderful and so striking in features. During the 45 min pose I couldn't get her head right (pin heads suck) and just moved to another sheet to do a study of her face. Her features were so striking its like she walked out of a stone carving from the Aztecs.

In other new things I've done. I published my first fan fiction. Its in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and yeah, I'm pretty proud of it. I've got a few more in the works including one that hit me today that I'll see if I can get out there.

A Proper Drink It was not possible without much love and editing by [livejournal.com profile] ickaimp and [livejournal.com profile] lferion.

So Sunday was nice and then I just got cold...could not get warm and well I was sick with sinus uck. Today I'm tired and ran some errands but still tired. Not quite fit for human interactions but on the mend I think. I don't think my eating habits are helping and just need to stop the crap and eat good stuff and drink my effing tea and water like a good girl.

2015 will hopefully bring lots of good changes to me. My goal is to make myself better and treat myself better. I've been letting work decide on that too much and well, I need to do things for myself.
ianuk: (here's looking at you)
Well, I have to say. This weekend was not how I envisioned it but it was really good. Seriously good in some respects. I managed to fit in lots of projects, got to spend some good quality time with family and friends and got to hit people with sticks. Not too shabby.

Today we were not rained out but Mel was feeling less than stellar. [livejournal.com profile] public_shaylan, Benton and I went to Joe's for breakfast and had a really nice time. We relaxed, had nummy food and then got home to pack up for various and asundry. Mel stayed home and Benton and I went to War Practice. I had arranged child care and it was a good time. Ben had an awesome time with Aelina and Asteria and I had a really good time fighting. I stopped before the last scenario when Magdalen had to ask me a land question and I realized the world was kinda spinny and that I was DONE. So I did the land thing and then got changed out of armour, got soup from the soup kitchen and then got everything packed up and loaded before picking up Benton at the playground. Some notable things: Caolin, Aelina's Sister got her AOA, Anya was offered her Laurel and little Duncan who I've known for years from gaming conventions got offered his knighthood. He will be the shortest knight in the kingdom and that is awesome in so many ways. He's such a sweet guy and an amazing spearman. He is pretty fearless too. Anya, well, seriously, if you haven't been paying attention to the awesome, well, sorry...start now! So happy for my deputy...wait, I'm her deputy now! LOL!

Got home and [livejournal.com profile] ickaimp was painting away on my banner. Its spectacular! While she was finishing up I got the Laurel banner traced out and got [livejournal.com profile] public_shaylan's sketched out too. We managed to get her's all base painted and ready for detail work before we called it a night.
Banner Pictures )

Mel was very glad he stayed home but he's feeling somewhat better. He's already in bed..course I'm going to be heading that way shortly. I'm tired, sore and I took a knee shot that I had ice on for quite a while that is just starting to ache. The buy apologized but still it hurts. Really happy with the weekend. I know things SCA-wise in Atenveldt are still a bit squiffy due to the BOD but there wasn't much any of us can do about the situation but wait, be patient (I know, its hard) and keep on keeping on until the March 6th date.

Also on Friday night I finished up "Blameless" #5 of the year and started #6 "Heartless" in the Parasol Protectorate. So much steampunk fun!

In the words of my SIL, [livejournal.com profile] fibergeek Go make stuff.
It seriously helps with your mood.
ianuk: (research)
Well, I have to say I didn't accomplish everything I wanted to this weeked but considering how I was feeling I don't feel too bad about it. So on friday I started getting really stuffed up in the head. My ears were full and my head ached and I was tired. I came home after a huge brain drain day and took a nap. Mel was awesome and let me sleep and picked up the Benton later than normal so I could rest. I ended up taking some sudafed but man I didn't feel too much better. I prepared for us to go to Sierra Vista in the morning but we had a plan if I wasn't up to it. Mel was awesome to make me grilled cheese to go with the tomato soup that I wanted.

Little boy decided that 615 was when he wanted to get up which was fine. I got moving and made coffee and breakfast after I fed him. I was feeling okay after I ate and I proceeded to get things going for the morning. Mel was awesome and drove to Sierra Vista. We had Mariyah with us and we had a good trip down. Got to site and got things settled and Ben was really awesome all day. I was tired though and I took it easy and made sure to drink plenty of water and keep the boy happy. Aunt Pat was great and watched him while I taught documentation. The classes got a bit rescheduled due to the rain but it worked out. I was very tired by the time it was time to leave. I drove us out of site and then managed to miss a sign and get a speeding ticket on post. I think I might defend my case on it since both mel and I didn't see the 35mph sign, only the 45mph sign. Its not the most expensive ticked I've gotten but it still was annoying. Unfortunately, since they were right behind us [livejournal.com profile] american_knight and [livejournal.com profile] duchess_asa got one too. That was the most eventful part of the trip. We got home, changed clothes, I fed the boy and then Mariyah and us went to Sweet Tomatoes. I was in the mood for comfort food and salad and soup hit that spot.

Got home, fed the boy again and I went to bed after a shower. I was feeling very stuff and my ears ached. I had really bad issues coming down from Sierra Vista (in elevation) and I blew my noised when we got home from dinner and I had to do the checks to see if I blew my eardrum. Ouch. All was okay but I was so icky. Mel had set his bedside light on and I went to bed to awake at midnight and realized mel hadn't come to bed. Which was odd. He had had a really good day fighting and was a bit keyed up when we got home from dinner. Well, he had stayed keyed up and had sat watching naalbinding videos. Silly boy. I am glad he had a good day and he came to bed when he realized what time it was. We went to bed and I fell asleep very fast him not so much. Oh, well. At 4am the boy made his monitor beep but it didn't set the alarm off. I got up to hit the bathroom and then realized that I needed to pump. I hadn't before bed and that was a mistake. I was back to sleep by 430 but when the boy woke up at 6am I was toast. Mel was awesome and brought him and the boppy to me and I slept/dozed while he ate. I had hoped he'd fall asleep with us in bed but he just wiggled happily while we dozed. Mel got up about 730 and took the boy with him and I slept until 930. It was nice.

I got up and felt my sinuses draining which was good and I felt better. I had breakfast after feeding the boy and then worked on getting the house picked up I think....I think I pulled fabric for my new dress and at 1pm Tym arrived to work on Rus pants. Throughout the afternoon he worked on pants with me supervising and I worked on understanding, making a pattern and then cutting out a new hangerrock based upon Nille Glaesel's Book. It is an amazing book and I finally figured out her patterning and cut one out. Dude, such efficient use of fabric! I hope to have it completed by crown on Saturday but I'll have to push through to do it. It won't have all of the fancy stuff on it but it should be nice. If that one works/wears well I'll do more from that pattern and get my clothing back up to snuff. I've needed new stuff for a while and I've been balking on it.

Benton had been a grumpy pants most of the day. I think he's starting teething cause he was warm but not really running a fever and he was chewing on everything he could get his hands on. Or he could be coming down with my cold. Dunno. He was cranky last night and was fussing on and off throughout the night. We put him down with out jammies and that was probably a mistake. I got up at 3am to cover him back up and give him his binky. He was right to sleep with his afghan but this morning he was still a bit cranky but that could have just been that he wanted to still be asleep. When he got to day care he was all smiles again but not as bouncy as normal. We shall see how this progresses. He's the right age to start with teeth or with a cold or both. Ah the joys of parenthood.

So, here we are at Tuesday, two weeks since my last post. I had not intended that..just was busy with my mom being here. I can say it was really, really nice having her here. She is such good support and so good with him. We did some shopping here and there but most of the time it was staying home and being with the boy and a few good walks.

Little boy has been fighting bed time a lot. We have to make sure that he's been awake about 6 hours before bedtime otherwise he just wakes up. Mom and I finally had to resort to a binky since he kept wanting to nurse but not really eat. That is hard on your body, let me tell you. But the binky worked and he has been using it about half the time to be put to bed. It was not the action I wanted to do because I really hate pacifiers but if its only for bedtime I'm much better with it. I'm feeling less guilty about it now but it was tough the first night. Course now that we are getting more sleep I'm feeling even better about it.

Mom spent a lot of her time here cleaning our house. I wrote earlier how I felt bad about that but many am I'm appreciative of it. She did comment though that maybe mel and I should look into getting someone to come in every few weeks and honestly, its been on my mind a lot before benton was born and now, yeah, I'll definitely be looking into it. I now that mel and I will have to pick up before they come to clean but man, it will be so nice.

Mom went with us to Coronation and she really enjoyed the pageantry. Benton did really well with the courts and played on his blanket for a lot of the time. He got the hiccups during the pelican ceremonies and I hope it didn't distract too many people. I got a few pictures during the day but pretty much enjoyed the day and passing the boy around for folks to see and play with. We got home and all got cleaned up and then mel took us out for dinner for early mother's day. We had a very nice time at BJ's brewery...where AHA members now get a 10% discount. Then we hit up Frost for gelato. Mel got the habenero/chocolate with a side of coconut. This is very much like the old Poor Brother's habenaro chips we liked where they were so hot your couldn't stop eating them. I got an endorphin high from one taste. Mel only got through half of his cup but he really liked it. I think I got mom addicted to gelato...lol.

Sunday mom watched Benton so we could head up to the site for Queen's Champion. I had to run the artisan prize tourney and mel was fighting in King's. It was a warm day but it was breezy. The display was really, really well attended with 20 folks displaying. HRM had a tough choice but she managed to make a decision after all of the the really lovely stuff. There were lots of first time artisans and first time displayers. I had some lovely chats about knitting and spinning with folks and just enjoyed the day. Mel fought pretty well and we managed to get home at a good clip. The only hitch I had all day was to find a place to pump. The bathrooms didn't have plug ins and I had to finally have housekeeping open a room for me to use. It worked but I need to call limerick (my pump manufacturer) to get the car adapter. This is probably a good plan honestly. Or I need to look at the cup holder converters...either way, its a good plan.

Yesterday was tough with mom going home. We were both crying and then Benton spent the entire day being fussy and not wanting to nap. He was basically up for almost 12 hours with the largest nap being about 30 mins and that was really early on. Mel was awesome and kept checking on him while scriptorium was going but I finally swaddled him in a snuggleme wrap and got him calmed down enough to nurse for about 5 mins and then he was out. Not sure why he was up all day but he was. I think he missed grandma. He had her all day the day before and I think that was good for him but he kept expecting to see her yesterday. Not sure but its a theory...or it was the fact I was gone so long. Anyway, he slept from 1030am to 6am. He was so hungry he's back to napping after eating so well. We are going to go for a walk here in a bit and then I'll get him up for playing. We have some errands to run today as well so it should be a busy day but not too bad.

Yesterday mel and I visited the daycare that I chose for Benton to attend. Mel hadn't gotten to see it but we had a nice time chatting with Miss Lisa. Benton was hungry so I fed him and he didn't care when the other kids were crying. So that makes me glad. Mel liked the facility but just hates the fact that we have to do daycare. We will be heading back there a few more times to get him used to being there and with the folks who will be caring for him. Its all good though. I think he's really gonna like it there. Plus, [livejournal.com profile] meowandbark will be taking Inara there as well so Benton will have a playmate he kinda knows.

So I ran into a guy at work that raises alpaca. Funny thing is he met [livejournal.com profile] posadnik_ivan when we were demoing at the Santa Cruz County Fair. Even funnier, I got home and was telling mel and found the guy's card on the end table Faith Journey Ranch

Well, work was long...even on a short day. I had lots of little tasks that didn't take up enough time. But I coped. I did manage to clean up my desk though and that was nice...I have nice clean work spaces..stuff is filed and neat looking. All good. Cause a clean desk is a sign of a disturbed mind...tee hee. One of the things all of us in the ME row at work were commenting on that even though its 100+° out we are all in a "baking" mood. Shannon brought in 4th of July decorated cupcakes yesterday that got us all talking. Yup, this week will be lots of baking.

Got home and mel and I went shopping. The cupboards were pretty bare and we hit the sales and got good stuff including ingredients for me to make bundt cakes. Squee! Got home and put things away and then we sat down to weave for a while. One thing of note is I'm sure that mel will be building us a new weaving bench very, very soon. And I think the pedals are really hard for me to push since I have short legs and I have to sit on the edge of the bench to reach and that is not comfy for me. Right now we are weaving tabby, plain woven, fabric. I'm not sure what else we will do but its a start. While mel was weaving I made a lemon rum bundt cake and then sat down to do some embroidery. The storm hit about then and the boys went out to batten down the hatches in the shop. Mel left for kung fu and Ari arrived soon after so I showed her the weaving and I wove a bit more. Then it was coffee time and book research. I working on my A&S research which entailed lots of lots of perusing through calligraphy/illumination books and having fun commentary.

My favorite Annunciation is from Simone Martin and the angel is wearing a plaid sash and has really neato wings but the expression on Mary is one of of utter disdain and WTFO! Ari and I have an entire commentary about it. My other favorite is a piece from the Engelbrech and Vander Wyden where mary is reading and has this look of "dude, I'm reading, go away" it also has some really nice back ground pieces and it has a neato majoilica jug. Plus then we all started to look at books and the phrases of "oh, these are the cutest little demons!" and "cutting babies in half" permeated the conversation. Scribes are a weird lot...yup. But I was happy and got lots of pictorial evidence for two of my projects and that was good. More work today to look up information on one of the artists but all in all a good day. Folks left and then it was time for bed.

PP&Z has gotten more amusing with another 2 suitors entering the mix. I'm still just tickled to be reading it and I think I need to put the real book on the reading list. I slept well but as always I could have slept more. I'm glad its a short week cause I have lots to do at home...including laundry...yikes, when did that hydra rear its head...oh, yeah, over the weekend when I should have been doing chores versus playing with the loom! Sighs. But I can get a few loads done this afternoon before practice and that should be good. Hopefully we won't get rained out but it is monsoon season...it tends to put a "damp"er on things...tee hee.

So, for those that can't draw...there is a fun heraldic stuff for you to trace your designs.

First, is Heraldic Clip Art. The site is a bit lacking in the easy to use part but if you have high speed you can get to things quickly.

Second, is an SCA things from the Pennsic Heralds to allow quick drawing of arms for submissions.
Pennsic Traceable Art Project which is very, very well done. Its still missing some charges but its a great place to go. I use it alot...even if its just for reference for what to draw or to make stencils.

Well, I had a good time on the "me" part of the day and then I got rocking on the banners for commission. I did take a few interludes for food and reading but the banners are done. Woot!
Here are pictures of the banners that have been completed in the last 2 days.

On the 50 Books list:

I finished Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher...it was slow to start but fun...the series is a bit fluffy but it will be fun it looks like.

And tonight I will be finishing Ill Wind by Rachel Caine...wow, what a ride. Fast paced throughout and what an awesome world...though I felt like I was reading a cross between Harry Dresden, Kim Harrison's Charm series and harry potter (there are some references that are just funny). Fun and good...I'll have to pick up the rest of the series. Next on the list will be some more janet evanovich I think.

Friday was busy with the IKEA trip. We got everything for the bathroom remodel and then some. It was kinda tiring after the late nights of the previous week but we persevered and had lunch at Rock Bottom. Got to see our fav hostess, JerryLynn, back on staff. It was so good to see her. Got home a bit later than planned and had to quick get dinner going and finish the final pick up of the house. The game was good. We made a bit of progress and got plans for the winter settled in game. Stayed up working on mel's gambeson and chatting with the ever faboo [livejournal.com profile] public_shaylan.

Got up at a reasonable time and got ready for the A&S Competition. I was running rather slow in the am and hitched a ride with shanda versus the hubby. Got to site and things were in the normal morning of an A&S competition chaos. Chaos maybe isn't the right word but it doesn't matter how well things are organized, A&S makes folks nervous and chattery and distracted. Its actually interesting social dynamics to watch. We had lots of entries and someone declare for champion and that was a good thing. We held morning court and gave out Boar Azures to Adalaide and John from the March of Weahlunutu. They were so surprised and it made me so happy to see that. They have been uber supportive of our archery and just plain awesome. Then after court Ivan taught his spinning class...where he kept forgetting I was actually taking the class..silly hubby. Then we had lunch and then southern meeting, followed by signing of scrolls, checking on judges, ivan teaching spinning again, getting a small 9man morris tourney going etc. Busy day. The nice thing was that everyone brought games and handwork and no one looked bored. Unfortunately, I think we really needed about 3 more judges to make the load a bit better. The cooking category had many, many entries. Things got judged and scrolls were handed out at court by 530 and we were out of there just about 6pm. Everyone stayed and helped clean up. The highlights were that [livejournal.com profile] spunkybluegrl won the championship and m'lady Anya got Laurel's and Populace Choice and Best Novice for her psanky Eggs. So cool.

Got home and the family (mel, [livejournal.com profile] lferion, me, shanda and later [livejournal.com profile] richarddbrewer) hung out and we slowly got changed or showered for ed's strawberry party. We got there about 830 or so and had a nice time. Maybe a bit too much business for my taste but I was tired. I pumpkin'd about 1130 and got folks moving towards the door. We were all beat and slept well. Picked up richard in the AM since we had driven him home leaving his truck at our house for breakfast at Joe's. Met up with [livejournal.com profile] atensibilla and [livejournal.com profile] sirtighearnain and then [livejournal.com profile] dragonflykeep and [livejournal.com profile] mariana_vivia came as well. We packed in to the big booth and had a lovely breakfast and our fav waitress helped us out.
Got back to the house picked up things for the viking clothes working for me, wander and [livejournal.com profile] satharn. It was a fun day, got mel's coat done minus trim on cuffs and loops, got new fighting pants made and understood the pattern that [livejournal.com profile] lferion worked out for the wrap around viking. I think I could have gotten there eventually but it would have taken me longer. [livejournal.com profile] satharn has a good first hangerrock to wear and we'll be meeting again soon to work on other things. Got [livejournal.com profile] satharn home and then back eat left overs and work on my pattern for me. I now have a prototype to do some seam finishing and work out the placement of the cording. Mel and >lj user="richarddbrewer"> worked on the cooler and on things in the shop. By 9pm we were all pooped. Richard had left earlier to do chores at home I think...the day was kinda jumble. I sat and read internet stuff and had a beer. Mel was a good boy and was putting his laundry away..so double laundry monsters were slain this weekend. Oh and that brings me to the list.
To Do List week of May 16 )
ianuk: (Default)
Well, I spent the entirety of friday working on the riding coat. OMG...did that take forever and it didn't help that I had to take one entire section of trim off and redo since I made the seam too large and had to rework it do to lining/outershell issues. Lesson learned again: the lining needs to be cut 1-2 inches longer that the outer. I finished up with the final trim attachment just at 8pm and then put buttons on during the game and passed it over to get loops
to ari and we finished it up somewhere around 10pm.

For credit:
Ari cut out the coat and lining.
I serged all of the pieces and finished up the lining sewing.
I attached all of the blue trim and embroidered all of the crosses.
Ari made the wolves and attached them.

So for all of the glory, here it is:
Ed's Coat Picts )

So that is done. This weekend I have to cut out and finish mel's vigil tunic and pants and finish richard's coat plus work on barional stuff and get laundry done. Yay! Well, time to get dressed and head to the gem show.
