Well that was a good day....
Apr. 17th, 2019 08:08 amWork has been one slog after another and we have too many deadlines, too many issues and I have 3 people on my team to do the work of 6. We are managing but I've pulled a lot of OT to make miracles happen and to keep us a float to the next catastrophe. I walked into the weekend have to work most of it like I did the weeks before and determined to try to get ahead. Everything I tried to do took hours...brain draining hard hours and coming in Monday after I effectually took Sunday off to go to an SCA event I felt guilty that things weren't done and we weren't ahead.
My deputy felt the same but after a meeting with our other teammate we actually had made rather a lot of progress once we put the pieces together. Still a lot to go but not as awful as it seemed. I left work Monday drained and tired but managed to get home after guiltily not going to the gym to fin that my gym bag was still at the house. So I guess my subconscious was telling me to go the fuck home. Headed to scribble and got the base painting finished up on 4 King's sigils. We need to remember that I don't design simple things and that this is way to complicated to paint en masse but we are moving quickly forward. Sighs.
Tuesday was my birthday. Did really plan anything due to work, kid and its Tuesday...wtf do you do on Tuesday? So late Monday night I had texted Willa and Erika to ask if movies and margaritas would be okay and that was a plan. I worked hard and Mel IM'd me asking if I wanted to go to dinner for my birthday....I was disappointed....he could have asked this over the weekend or last week but waits until 2pm day of....but I stated we hadn't planned things due to my reasons above and had texted the girls for a girls night. He was grateful I had planned something and we left it at that.
The day was okay. Ari got me a very pretty necklace with a rose on it. I got donuts for work and hit meetings etc. I left work on time for the first time in ages and then got the boy from martial arts, stopped off at the grocer to get a few essentials and then we hit one of my favorite food trucks, Fat Noodle. Benton got the homemade ramen with tofu and I got the ramen burger. The bun is made of the home made ramen...it sounds utterly weird but OMG its my favorite burger hands down. We ran into one of my coworkers from 18 years ago and a former waitress at our fav breakfast haunt before our food was ready. Very surreal. When stuff like that happens I take it as the universe telling me I was at the right place at the right time to make connections again. And now we have a new breakfast place to try since the waitress and her mom had opened up a new cafe.
We got our food and the weather had been building to something....the wind was high when I left work but as we got to home we saw some lightening. Got home and inside just before things started to sprinkle and we had thunder rumbling through the house. Kittens went to hide. What we also got was me walking into the front room and seeing the light on....which I had not left on. I then looked around suspiciously, cause I'm paranoid after the break-in, to see my husband had left me a surprise for by birthday.

He made me a chair! Without me knowing about it! OMG!!!!

Its amazing. And he got me flowers and a birthday cake! yay! Sneaky husbands. He wasn't even there to see me see it. Benton knew about the chair but he did not know about the cake and flowers. LOL. I was on cloud 9 as I got into comfy clothes, ate my ramen burger and then had a nice time with Erika and Willa. Mel didn't go to practice since it was raining and lightening. He got his dinner and then headed out to the shop to work while the rain came down and we watched the new Ghostbusters. I usually hate Melissa McCarthy and I was really impressed with her in this. Everyone was funny and the plot was cool. I liked the cameos and just thoroughly enjoyed the eye candy of the cast (Holtz and Kevin, so cute).
I also managed to finish my Craftvent shawl and started weaving in ends...omg all the ends.

Seriously...these are the ends I have left and the pile I already did...

So all in a very nice day. Work was better since a major task got stopped by the management and I had to archive my draft findings and that is a weight off my shoulders and then a really surprising and nice evening. Seriously, not what I expected on my birthday but I'm not at all upset about it. :)
Its good to be the answer to life the universe and everything.
