Weasels on vacation.....
Jul. 10th, 2023 09:43 amWhen last I wrote things brainwise were settling...not perfect but getting there. We made the cross country travel with three cats to the Northern house and they have been enjoying running around the 4k square foot house (minus the bedrooms and storage areas. They get put in the "cat room" at night and they seem to enjoy things okay. Minus willow getting into Spicy's food. Spicy is actively growing and learning to jump and taken to napping on the top of the chair backs in the family room.
We had Becca, Rob and the boys here for the first week and that was nice. We had a good time and threw the boys outside when ever we could (we did have a rain day). We had gotten a grill so I can cook out. It was nice to watch the kids in the yard below while hanging on the porch. The kids, Becca and I went to Palisades state park and hiked around it one day. Very cool we found some neat rocks. After Becca and Rob left we did antiquing and shopping in Sioux Falls. Found some nice things for very reasonable prices and I'm letting mel finally indulge with his obsession with Uranium/Vaseline glass. After we bought a few pieces we got home and looked at my grandmother's 1930s glass and found two more pieces (a pink plate and a green cream/sugar set with tray). So now we will be on the look out for a display cabinet we can install in the dining room that can have black light. The two display cabinets in the house can't be retrofitted easily so its okay. We will be searching out more pieces when we head out this next weekend. We also rearranged the master bedroom a bit, moved almost all of the artwork around in the house, are putting a different mirror in the main bathroom. Mel has been cleaning up the big garage and organizing tools and we got racks to hang tools on. I don't know why mom didn't ever do that its annoying the amount of weird stuff just laying around in there. Luckily the house isn't cluttered so moving stuff isnt too hard. We also rearragned the parlor and wow is it a much nicer place to sit in the evenings and craft. We've moved the canadian production wheel to here for permanent use. It looks great by the window.
Last week I took the 3 days off an that was nice (Mond/Tues were holidays for us). This week is me working from the dining room table. Mel has taken the old bedroom we used to use. He bought a neat little desk to use but he's still working on refurbishing it. Its just been nice to have little projects to do and the boy is out playing in the woods while we work. the only annoyance is the flies...its a farm...you just deal. I sat on the deck with the umbrella we got and worked for about 90mins. It was getting bitey from the flies so I came inside.
I'm very glad we are here versus AZ where the temps are stoopid. Today will be the hottest at 90F for the week...we head back down to 83 for the rest of the week. Its also just nice being here and Mel and the boys picked mulberries and I made amish cobbler. We have more to pick and choke cherries. Becca and I had hit a farmer's marker and German Mennonite ladies had baked good. Such good sourdough. Hoping to see them this week and drag Mel to chat with them.
Its been nice to have some closure on things with my mom as well. The house is now ours (though I still need to file some work for a deed transfer) and getting things happy for us at the house is really what I'm happy about. Got the car working and just need to get my insurance to cover it so we have something a bit more fuel efficient. I don't like the Rav 4 but we are keeping it so there we go. Benton will have a nice car in a few years.
I've been knitting just a bit and need to get my spinning wheel up and running. I have the replacement parts that I need to put on and then spin something pretty.
I've also been reading (like duh).
I finished # 24 the Hollow Boy and then #25 The Creeping Shadow and #26 the Empty Grave. So I had pegged what I thought was going on in the series pretty well to rights. Watching the first episode and there are hints of it which is neat. Good series though. Highly recommend.
Then I read #27 Season of Skulls from Charles Stross...that was a fun trip. And to keep with the creepy I read #28 Broken Souls by Stephen Blackmoore. This is #2 in the series about Eric Carter necromancer, The protagonist is kinda neat but also kinda meh. Now I'm reading A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik since she's up for a Hugo for the series. I liked her dragon novels and she's super nice so I will try it out.
So that is that. Its rather nice to not have my brain eating itself. I think I was worried about the trip and the like but again that is okay now. Gonna talk with the doc of lowering my brain meds to see if I can self regulate a bit more. I'd like to have a bit more drive and self control. Also hoping to get some more hikes in. That would be awesome.
