Crown Weekend Wrap-up
Mar. 7th, 2005 07:03 amSo, mel and I agreed that we will do nothing major the day before crown. Nothing. Since the truck wasn't completed until just after 5pm we didn't get on the road until 6pm. But it was okay. We got to phx at a reasonable hour for dinner with Kevin and Zane....but a little earlier would have been better. We only forgot two things (mugs/deoderant). Plus I now know where a bank is near kev's and this is good.
So, had dinner at Famous Dave's BBQ and the boys were still in the mind to drink so we headed to BJ's Brewery. We were in Tempe (I think) near the 202 at a big mall. Good food, good conversation and watching Zane almost lose his drink during the "Random and the Dead Squirrel" incident story was great. Then it was to bed about midnight and up at 7am.
We were able to get to site on time even after a CVS pharmacy trip and breakfast. Course if I'd read the event announcement I wouldn't have gotten breakfast but Carl's Jr now has really good coffee. (Can we say Papa New Guinea?) We got signed in, found a spot to sit with Golda and settled into the day. All was good. Mel didn't fight great but okay. Two rounds and out. But the day was won by Lord Eduard fighting for Osa. and it was good clean fighting. HRM Phalen was quite blunt with the fighters saying he didn't want any crap that day..he wanted good clean fighting. Ed's been saying "Hit Hard, Take light and fight clean" and that was the day. So, it looks like the next few months will be busier than planned....sighs, no rest for the wicked. Got to meet with the new Kingdom Seneschal, all is okay with that. Really nice guy, btw.
The weird thing was that all friday I felt really good. The chest didn't hurt..but Saturday I couldn't even pick up my blue bag without flinching. The air was more humid but I finally figured it it was the bra I was wearing digging into my ribs. (I had washed it and not readjusted everything)...but it still was bothersome on sunday.
We got back to Kev's after helping pull pavillions down with the upcoming storm. Kev was finishing up a dungeon on WOW so I curled up with book and mel napped for about 40 minutes and then we headed out to Red Robin for food and then to the movies. I needed coffee before the movie and the starbucks oblidged. We saw Constantine and I gotta say I was in for being highly dissapointed. I'm a DC Vertigo fan from way back and a Hellblazer was one of my first comics I ever stated buying. I intimately know the world and John...so, with Keanu I just wasn't sure. But good lord did it work! The changed things up but all of the sublte nuianses were there..the correct brand of smokes, the correct alcohol. The bullshit magic (the scene with Buthilzar) and all of the quirkyness. Yes, its supposed to have humor, you are supposed to laugh...then they hit you with the wierdness again. I was impressed and will probably go see it again. Seriously. Cool Flick.
Then I hit kinko's at 12:30am for copies and finally headed to bed about 1am. Yeah, sleep...ha! We got up at 7 again and were on site by 8:15-30. We had breakfast there and helped out a bit. I chatted with HE for a while during the rain and then the day brightened and Ivan fought one of the best days of his life. He made it to the quarter finals of war lord, going undefeated until the spear round versus the final vicotr Li. Though I'm still mixed about the winner it will make for an interesting reign, especially when you think of the back history between ed and li. but we shall see. Court was good
karzboi got his Blood of Fenris (go llamma's). After court we then we headed to Cracker Barrell with Mingo/Tati,
bertana and Erica (whose sca name I can never remember). Good food, interesting conversation (creepy that) and then we headed home. Got in about 7pm. Unloaded the truck, had a beer and sorted through this HUGE bag of yarn that TE Debra and Diego were giving us. I have no idea where they got it but there is a small bag we sorted out just for
snotblossom since its verigated yarn and an unfinished aghan. We're thinking it was a realtives crochet stash...but whomever it was they had much better color sense then mel's grandmother and we now have PLENTY of yarn for mel to teach his tablet weaving classes a few times. So, yeah.
I think we were in bed by 8:30 and I fell asleep almost before I finished my beer. I got over 8 hours of sleep...yeah! But I still need to make up more. Tonight will be cleaning the kitchen, sending mel shopping (we need food) and tracing out the cypher blanks. (I need to get the pattern done so we can get everybody started with take homes...we shall see. Business will ensue after work. Course my intern left me a message on thursday afternoon that is was just my computer on the model issues...so that is good. I'll reload the model and start work for my structures analyst asap. So, off to work...
