So, we are toying with the idea of going to Comic Con...but I have no idea of where to stay and anything close that I've been able to find has been booked...now maybe this is cause the convention has rooms booked and that opens up on March 19th.

Course the only place I found was $500 per night quad occupancy...not sure if we want to swing that. Anybody been and can suggest?

This isn't Theresa, it's her husband Barry. CCI's room block is pretty small, and the whole thing usually sells out in 5 or 10 minutes - mainly because not much is allocated to the con block since every room in town will sell out anyway, so there's no need to discount.

Most people book rooms for the next year before they leave the con.

You'd probably be best off by doing a little Google searching for a weekly condo rental in downtown. During the building boom downtown SD went condo-nutty, and there are a lot of them available for short-term rental. One in the Gaslamp District would be most convenient to the convention center, but CCI's shuttles run every few minures throughout downtown so even if you're a little far for walking it's still easy to get where you need to go.

Here's a useful site:

I was at Comic Con a couple of years ago. It's enormous! The close hotels sell out fast and are expensive. If you want to book through CC, more rooms open up later (but they tend to be just as expensive.). You can book a hotel further away, as many of the hotels are on or near the CC bus shuttle line (which runs pretty frequently but is a hassle). There is also fairly good public transportation in San Diego (I think there is a light rail that runs right to convention center.)

we happened to go on a sea world/zoo trip 2 years again the same week as ComicCom. Our hotel was in Old SD and the trolley was within walking distance.
And only about 20 % of the cost of what you found.

Of course, the bunking at someone's house is 0% of the above (not including beer donations to the host)

I think Andrew mentioned something about maybe going because Kevin asked us too. You'll have to talk to him more about it. If we go I'm sure we'd want to share a room cuz stuffs is expensive!
