Wednesday was not as productive as Tuesday was..but I had 5 meetings so there isn't much else that can be done. The qual report is almost complete...I'm still trying to verify test data versus what our records are showing and that has become tedious. After work I got home, opened up the mail and then headed out to get my toes done. They got a new shiatsu chair at the salon I got to and that was absolute heaven! Then I did a bit of grocery shopping and then home. Changed for arts night and then grabbed a salad at Rubios and was there with 10mins to eat my dinner. My class went well and I had lots of out of town folks which was nice. The catapult class was having way too much fun and in general it was a really, really good arts night.
I've been trying not to take the Zyrtec everyday now since I'm starting to get the edema swelling again so I haven' had any since last friday. The no pills = no swelling was working but with the wind I was miserable and my left eye was all itchy and blurry when I drove home. Got home, had more water and took 2 benedryl and I'm much better today. I'm gonna take a zytrec today just to help but once the wind stops I should be good. Mel was wired from kung fu and was up spinning till very late. He's been very content to sit and spin fibers the last few weeks, he's even finished a few of his longer term projects to get ready to warp the big loom soon. This makes me very happy for him. He's now getting into spinning up fiber for the dye retreat so he has plenty to dye at the retreat. He stayed up spinning for quite a while while I finished up another leaf on the 2nd rose and had a shower. I'm much happier with the time this rose is taking...I was out of my gourd over the weekend.
Oh, does anyone have period evidence on the use of gourds as drinking vessels? I don't have a clue of where to start on that one but a student had that question so I'm posing it to you guys.
Mel was awesome and remembered it was by b-day when we woke up this morning. Yay! And then when I was getting ready the phone rang and my mom and I chatted for a bit before her phones got to busy. During college my step dad would call really, really early in the morning to wake us up on our b-days and she had hoped she hadn't woken me up. So, time to head out to the floor and check out some hardware that we shook to death and is still working.

Date: 2009-04-16 04:57 pm (UTC)ETA: And on the gourd front - any idea what culture they wanted, or was it in general? I'm putzing around Jstor and coming up with the occasional reference to something called a "beer gourd" but it seems to be a shape, as opposed to an actual gourd. There are also references in North African contexts...
Then again, I just did a search for gourd and drinking vessels - so I'm getting a lot...

Date: 2009-04-16 07:21 pm (UTC)Maybe start looking with 'pilgrim's water gourd'. I believe the water gourd hung from a walking staff was a symbol of the pilgrims. I'm remembering a woodcut from the 1500's maybe...?
