Over a 3 day weekend I usually hope to get more done than I do. I kinda succeeded. My piece of regalia is still in work...the end is in sight and if my had was working better I'm sure it'd be closer to done.

Glen put me back together on Friday and it swelled up a bit and was a different kind of sore. Now admittedly...me pounding metal over and over didn't help it but it needs to get done.

Friday also had Benton's 6 mos checkup. He's now 17 pounds 12.5 ounces (54th percentile), 28.25 inches long (97 percentile) and Head is 16 3/4 cm (24th percentile). So, in two months he's gained 1 pound 11.5 ounces in weight, 1 inch in height and .5 cm in his head. So not his biggest change but he's doing okay. His head though is flat and lumpy on the back and we get his orthosis appointment next week. So by Oct 6th he'll be sporting his helmet and we should see marked improvement after that. When you have people who aren't really close to us comment on "your kid has a funny shaped head" you know its time to do something about it. The insurance is not covering it. There are actual statements specifically about it in our policy. Lame but true. Luckily we can cover the cost without much issue but its still annoying.

Benton has been sitting up a whole lot more and friday afternoon he figured out how to go from his tummy to on all fours and then to sitting on his butt. So awesome! Friday we also got the go ahead to start the boy on solids...I guess we are a bit late in the game on that but he's been doing really well. So Saturday morning we sat in the living room (we didn't have a high chair then) and fed him oatmeal. We got video and if you are on Flickr you can see it. But this was the aftermath!

The aftermath!

He loved it and kept leaning forward and sharking the spoon. He ate a lot on the first day and ate even more on Sunday morning. After having to clean up the floor, the boppy, the boy and everything I went and got a high chair for us. Since we are spaced limited we got the Fischer-Price Healthy Care booster Deluxe which was an adventure. Toysrus didn't have it but Target did. I did pick up a Floppy Seat which was awesome since we used it on Sunday morning at Joes as see in this picture.

Sitting at Joe's like a big boy in a high chair!

He loved it and I need to remember to attach a few toys to it so we don't have to worry about them falling to the floor.

We also were lent an Excersaucer from Jaylee and Matt. Ben hung out in it while we were in the shop on Sunday. He loves it and was very happy to be distracted for an hour.

Benton in the Excersaucer!

Saturday night we had dinner with Ed and Candace and hashed out some household stuff. It was a good evening and I'm glad we did dinner. We were up pretty late but that was okay. Sunday was good and we hit joes with a big crew of people and then it was home to work on projects. Mel worked on his A&S project and I worked on the regalia piece. Its almost done. I have to attach the pieces together and do final cleanup and punch work. But I'm pleased. By the end of the day mel, I and Benton were exhausted. Little boy only took two very short naps and mel had been planing all day. I'd been pounding metal and using the hand crank grinder. So it was early bedtime for all of us. Mel was asleep well before 10pm and I sat up comfy in my blankets reading until I think 1030...not sure.

I awoke at 340am when I heard Benton giggle which was odd. I listened for a while and he did not go back to sleep. I got up and gave him a binky and let him set for a bit but after 20 mins he was still awake. I got up and checked on him and changed his diaper and he was still awake. So I fed him. He chowed down really well and was back asleep after about 20mins or so with a full tummy. This is the first time he's woken up that early in a really really long time. The pattern for a while has been we hear him stir about 530 and if its a weekend he falls right back asleep until a bit after 6am where its binky time and we can usually sleep in until 645am. Not sure what was up last night but I hope it doesn't continue. It made me weird this morning and I forgot a few things I needed for work which is grumping me out. Oh, well, its monday.

Sophie has an unusually early morning today, too - she was crying hysterically instead of giggling, though. The only way I got her back to sleep was to lay down with her on our futon. It's lame when you aren't expecting it! And we didn't start either of the girls on solids until after 6 months - I think that's the recommended age to reduce the chances of food allergies. Sophie was a little weird about her feeding schedule at first, but she settled down petty quickly. Man, Ben is such a little cutie!

Mel's mom said that she waited until Mel tried to grab food off of her plate. Ben had made my milk increase an extra 3 ounces in the past 2 weeks and I've been filling all of his bottles to 8 oz and he was getting double dinner so I knew it was pretty imminent to start. The Doc gave us the go ahead and he's been pretty happy with the cereal. Daycare has the same food so they will be feeding him it mixed with my breast milk. All good. I think this next weekend we willy try bananas.

Bananas are wonderful. We've also had great luck with sweet potatoes. Ad oatmeal is the eternal standby. I mix it into her bottles and fruit.

Avocados are excellent first food by the way.

Welcome to solids... they are fun! I'd reccommend, but Viktor ate everything and was completely non-food fussy (hmm I think he gets that from the Kemps). Though I think our day-care was often surprised when I'd send stuff like parsnips, or beets&rice, or the bright purple sweet potatoes.
