Crafting and sickness...that kinda sums my weekend up.

On Thursday afternoon I finished Shanda's shawl. I can't wait for her and Santiago to get their gifties. I'm sure they will love them but until they have them I wonder and freak out that they won't like them. Ah, the weird brain of a crafter. Thursday night I got dinner going with making tacos and we had a nice meal. Benton was a bit tired but went to bed at a good time. Mel wasn't feeling great but manageable with drugs I was worried about him.

Friday morning mel was awesome and didn't get me up to get the boy to daycare and I enjoyed sleeping in. I got a good breakfast in me and then headed to the mall to get "purdi-fied". It had been a really long time since I had my toes done and then I also got my hair cut and colored before I picked up Benton for his appointment for his helmet.

After:

His last growth spurt over the last few weeks had made it so he was outside of the helmet range. So we are off with the helmet for 3 weeks and then they will re-eval if his growth spurt will take care of the rest or we get a new helmet. So from October 10-January 20th was his helmet therapy. So 3 months, 10 days of wear. He went from a funny looking kid to a perfectly normal little blonde boy. I'm still getting used to the fact that I'm looking for a little blonde kid versus a blue helmet. We spent the weekend having adventures of the head banging sort. More on that later.

Mel was going down hill on Friday and the discussions happened about taking him to urgent care. He told me he would go in the morning....and well, read on. Saturday morning I got up early and got Benton fed and started working on cleaning the house. Mel slept in well and Benton and I went out to get the shopping done and had a good time. Got home and we got mel up and moving and then I really got in on the cleaning of the house. I had done some the night before but I really got to town on the dishes and the front room and I got the house in good shape for folks to cut out fabric etc. Mel was awesome and even in his sick state (though he told me he felt better...) he moved baby containment fields and basically only put up shields to block off the spinning wheel and the looms. We set up the pack n play to contain him for when we will be out of site but he basically has the run of the family room/front room/kitchen when we are watching. He was a very happy kid playing in a big open area. Though it was a lot of work moving things and keeping an eye on him. Once the "shiney" of the new area wore off he was happy to look out the window and play with things and use his walker.

I got lunch on for a big (well, I thought it was big) pot of curry. Hrafn folks started arriving and we got the pants pattern copied out for people and then discussed lots of things with clothing. No one cut out fabric but there was good discussions and I think a lot of inspiration. Mel had people in the shop cutting out boss holes for shields. Folks started leaving about 4pm and we had just Simon and Mariyah for dinner and discussion. When everyone left I worked on Storvarr's mitts and had a beer. Mel looked miserable on the couch. The misery didn't stop there. I was blissfully asleep and didn't know he was up most of the night coughing. I feel bad but I also got to sleep. He was pretty bad all day but was kind enough to just corral the boy from the futon while I cut out fabric.

I managed to cut out 2 pairs of flannel jammie pants, 2 pair of Rus pants for myself, 2 tunics for myself and my new hangerrock for crown. I was tired and some of it involved me doing tetris of fabric to cut out all of the pieces. I only had to piece one of the tunics with an alternating color to make things neat but it was a rack on my brain power. I'm not sick but I'm tired and stuffy enough to make things icky. Mel says I've been snoring which means my sinuses are junk right now. I finished that stuff up and Mariyah was over working on lamellar armor. Both mel and Benton were tired. I found them both asleep while I was finishing cooking dinner. I made a weird cast iron cooking thingy.

Take 1.5 # ground beef that has been cooked with 1 red onion chopped and 2 tablespoons of minced garlic in the bottom of a cast iron dutch oven. I spiced it with cumin, Cinnamon, chile powder and pepper. Add one can of beans drained and rinsed.

Leave it at the bottom of the pan. Mix one box of corn bread mix per package directions and stir in 1 can of corn (drained) and 1/2 cup of shredded pepper jack cheese. Pour corn bread mix over beans/meat and bake with lid on for 20-30 mins in a 400°F oven until corn bread is done.

We all ate dinner and then got Benton bathed and we then hit Urgent care for mel. We hit the one at El Dorado and they were very quick. The longest we waited was for the final process sheets and scrips. We were in an out 1.25 hours. Benton was not happy about being corralled on a lap but he coped being up past his bed time. I was grateful for a great older lady doc who basically told mel what he needed to do in a very matter of fact manner and really took her time with us. He got a secondary infection, now in his sinuses and lungs and they gave him a z-pack and some cough syrup. I got the boys home and then got mel's scrips. Thank god I had his prescription card in my wallet since he hasn't had one filled in 8 years. Got home and had him take his meds and then I sat and worked on a hat for Benton. Its the Tricera Tops Hat. The cool thing is I'm again knitting with something I've spun. Which is cool. I think it will be cute.

So, mel is home today. I hope he gets better. The cough is just wearing him out physically and that is no good. Hopefully soon the antibiotics will kick the crud's butt and I'll have my normal hubby back. Sick hubby is no fun. I am gonna call the pediatrician about Benton today since he's had the same stuffy nose and mild cough for a while now. Its not getting worse and not really bothering him but its annoying. Need to see if they want to see him or not.

Yeah, it felt good to get my hair done.

I do love that shirt and hadn't really worn it since Sept 2010 due to the podling belly.

Now to look hot like you and [livejournal.com profile] bertana...

Yeah for haircut hotness!

Boo for the coughing crud. BF has had a horrible cough since he got back from up north. Sounds like he's choking.
