A Weekend without internets....
Jul. 13th, 2009 08:03 amWell, not quite without...I pulled out the phone while waiting for court on Saturday and posted a quickie but that was about it. It took me a bit to get caught up in everyone's lives. Hugs to Selene! You need some and here, have a virtual glass of wine!
Well, I was busy all weekend but it was that good and healthy busy. Friday after work I headed straight to grandma's for some much needed craft time. Everyone was awesome and we has some really funny moments going through More Knits for Big Girls including a sweater that we are sure they stole from Ruby Rod in The 5th Element. Got home and it was so nice, even with an impending monsoon that I put on my bike gear and headed out. I got a good 6 miles in before the monsoon hit. Luckily I made the strategic decision at 22nd street to bike home otherwise I would have been one wet cyclist. Got home and mel had finished the turnip, rutabega, bacon side for the steaks I was doing. I got cooled down, changed and cooked steaks on the george foreman since it was pouring outside. I had to fight my will power cause there was a box of donuts and a really pretty and I hear, tasty, cheese cake for dessert. Sighs, but I did good. The game was good, we got organized and that was nice. I went to bed very early (1030pm) but that was okay since I got up at 7am to bike.
I put in a 9.5mile ride (15.4mph) and then got home, had breakfast, showered and then we left for Mons A&S. We had a good drive listening to High Fiber Diet and getting a call from Mingo about wood clamps on sale. Hit the dead zone in the canyon on i-10 and that would be the first dropped call on the phone but its understandable. Got to site nicely on time for court and fun and then had a nice lunch and then on to judging. Some of the documentation was making my head hurt but its nice when you have not great documentation but really, really good workmanship...its easier to judge and give pointers. By my last piece though I was mentally drooling and I probably should have just stopped but I can talk to the entrant later since I know them and we were really short about 3 judges. I judged seven items in 5 categories. Whoa! Got done with judging and unfortunately I had not enough yarn with me to continue on the baby blanket so I borrowed a spindle from mel and worked on spinning. It looks like I'm really happier spinning left handed.
cayswann, thanks for the instructions cause mel helping me solidified things we worked on and I was actually spinning for a while. I did not bring enough high protein snacks with me and I desperately needed to eat when we left but I managed to not eat the cookie tray we brought home (thank you for being judges gifty) and had steak and turnips when we got home. We were both drained from judging and watched a movie with richard while I worked on the afghan. I was in bed by 1030 again.
Got up on Sunday morning and did a 10.5 mile ride (15.5mph) before meeting folks at joe's for breakfast. Had a nice meal and good discussion on religion and the splits in the church. This was stemmed by mel watching a history channel show on "revelations" and my statement about bible study made me less religious...anyhoo...good discussion. Got home and I worked on a sekrit squirrel project that is due Wednesday (yes,
msgolda things are going swimmingly). Then I headed to a baby shower and had a good time and avoided the bad stuff to eat. I did have a bite of cake and brought cake home for mel but I was good. Got home and worked more on sekrit project and then finished up with what I could on that and worked on the baby afghan. I've got 5 rows left until I get to the 7 rows of picot edging...its gonna be nice. Jayle was happy about it and Matt liked the color so that is good. I should be able to get it washed up and to them probably next week. All good. Then on to the other blankets which I think the next one will be easier and quicker to do...I think. The final one is one of the square types all in the round (kinda) and I think I'm gonna need some help on figuring that one out.
Just a very good weekend all around and I'm happy about that. My hands are a bit swollen from all of the crochet and other handwork I've been doing plus the biking but I think I can manage. I have to do a bit of shopping (groceries) after work, pick up the house, work on sekrit project and then sit down to line out a few more scrolls and get cracking on the calligraphy. All good though.
