With the last post I was heading towards the holiday and trying to be prepared. I was freaking out and trying to do a lot ahead to not be crazy but my brain was having fritzes where I just couldn't begin. But I took Wednesday off and I turned my anxiety into productivity with a list and things and got it done. I only had the green bean casserole to finish on Thursday...Mel had the turkey going finally but it was a weird morning cause the smoker refused to go to high and he had to replace the regulator and that was good. We still had to finish it off in the roaster but it was tasty and good. Luckily he was feeling better after being death warmed over. Ari came over early which was nice for my sanity. We got things settled and then mom blew up my phone...I think she thought we forgot her. She forgot that we had agreed at 1pm...she was hounding at noon. I had to explain that in the SW versus the midwest we arrive on time or 5 minutes past...not 30 mins early. But I got her picked up and we had a really nice meal. Benton was off...he was feeling overwhelmed and not social. I get that. He had some food and then retreated to his room to read. Its okay.

Mom was really alert and we had a nice time. She only stayed about 3 hours which was okay but I would have liked longer but I think she was worried if she had to go to the bathroom that she would have an accident like she had before. I don't know it was odd. Got her home and then came back to have drinks and relax truly for the first time in a week. Btw all of the food was perfect. All of my pies jelled and were tasty. Put Smith&Cross Rum in the Peach, Cherry Herring in the Cherry, the pumpkin was divine and DF, and the dutch apple I did I wasn't sure was going to turn out but it was perfect. I used Sugar Bee apples for the first time and they were nice and sweet but still firm when baked. Mel didn't remember we used to put booze in the whipped cream and he did it this time and loved it.

We had Thyra nd Ruhdhan in the evening for driveby chatting and food. They hadn't done a meal that day due to many things and we were quite happy to provide food and drinks. It was nice to have a 'tea' session and chat and see where things were at and then swamp styles. It was a nice evening.

Friday I got up early and went to the gym. Making it my 3rd time at the gym that week. We were having a post Turkey day HIIT session at 9am. I was a tidge early and then Keith and I realized that we didn't have anyone else. No one else showed up. No one else. which means I had the hardest HIIT session. But I did it. I burned almost 700 calories. I was so shaky on the way home. I got home, had a nice shower and then headed to my massage...expect I was an hour early...so I dinked around Ross and Petco and got some things for the holidays and what I needed. Massage was excellent and worked out all of the tightness from my morning exertions. Jesse and Jen came down for Friday afternoon and evening and we had a nice time.

Saturday we slept in a bit and I was trying to finish the 39th Book of the year and I did that. Then I picked up Mom and had her come over to 'help' wrap presents. The boys went to the lumberyard and Ace. Mom was very spacy during things. She thought we were doing lunch. So I fed her. I'm worried she's just not eating unless she really really likes something. If there is chicken in anything she refuses. Sighs.
But she was so confused on Saturday and kept asking the same question (where are we going to breakfast on Sunday) and we answered every time. Sighs. The boys were playing Grounded and I read into the evening. IT was nice.

Sunday we had breakfast with Mom and she was much more alert and cognitive. Still asked where we were going for breakfast. We went to Biscuits which was new to all of us. They were a bit patriotic for my taste but the food was excellent. Benton ordered pineapple upside down pancakes and wow those looked good. They put buttermilk pancake stuff on the griddle, toss in some cherries and pinapple, coat that in brown sugar and then flip. OMG. Mom had her usual bacon, eggs and pancakes. She didn't eat a lot but made a good dent. I had the huevos rancheros and their green sauce was AMAZING.I should have not gotten them Christmas...green all the way. It was a nice time and we dropped mom off. I relaxed a bit at home and then ran some errands to pedicure, the grocer, big lots and checked out a cycle shop. We are planning on getting bikes again and now is the fact finding missions. It was nice to just bum around with a real need. I restocked xmas paper and bags which was needed for future wrapping. I had bought a new paper organizer and finally used it and it is semi-hard sided so it stands nicely in storage.

The rest of Sunday was relaxing and hanging with Mel watching Wednesday. OMG it is so good. Like brilliant casting all around. Wonderful visuals and Danny Elfman wrote a wonderful score. We are at the last episode which will hold to watch until Wednesday. Seriously fun.

I'm now reading #40 for the year which is Tricks for Free from Seanan McGuire. This is the 7th book is in the Incryptid series and its been super interesting. Her world building is always amazing and its a fun mystery. I have 4 more books in the series until I'm caught up and that is a good chunk to get me to the 50 mark or close to it.

Monday was work and the gym and my brain is kinda quiet. I'm not too stressed. Getting more physical exercise has helped with the brain I think. And yes I know its supposed to and that is the point of getting my butt in gear but I've also been lowering my alcohol intake...not restricting per se but not having a lot when I do. So small steps forward are okay.

Project fronts....lol. I'm kinda meh. I need to plan some more simple clothes for war and outfit the boy who has my broad shoulders. But yeah. I still have socks on the needles for mel and half gloves for my self. But that is the week recap.
ianuk: (caw!)
Well, last week I spent most of my energy working the emergency issue with another program I got asked to work for my dept. Short story was that I got things done, tested, documented, reported to the dept and impounded into the database by COB on friday. It was tough work but I did good, IMHO, and I think the dept and the program is happy. We did a lot in a very short amount of time. So by Friday I was exhausted. All I wanted on friday night was a good night's sleep.

Thursday we had the news that Dorinda passed away. That pretty much dampened my enthusiasm for anything projecty which is exactly opposite on how I'm sure she would want things to be. She was a bright star in the sky for us. A smile that could light up a room and one of the best huggers ever. I'm sad for her, her family and sad with myself for not remembering when I saw her last. I just don't remember and that sucks.

So wearily we went to bed on friday night after I'm not sure what. Seriously I'm so brain fried I don't even know what we had for dinner. We slept in...well, Mel slept in till 8. I got up with Benton about 7 and that was good. He was hungry and we had to pack for MEF. We got on the road about 45 mins later than we planned but we made it in time to get checked in, change clothes and get to circle. Unfortunately, that didn't involve lunch so we starved through court and left after I made my announcement for the QPAS and then back to our room to eat the wonderful burritos that [livejournal.com profile] public_shaylan had gotten us. Seriously, best burrito since the one I had right after Benton was born.

Got back down to the hall to find out that they were setting up for the feast. Oh, well, I was still kinda hungry. So, I got the QPAS running and then got plates out and had the feast. It was really well done by the hotel. The food was fresh, hot and savory. Plenty of it to go around and the fact that they got two sets of serving lines was fabulous. The meat balls were heaven. Things were weird with our timing all day. I had to leave to head back up and feed benton, the knights circle ran at a weird time and over long and I didn't get to dance until well after things were done.

Course when I was up with Benton getting dressed to go dance and mel was in Knight's circle. My son got adventurous. He decided to test gravity and fell off the bed. I was going back and forth between the room and the bathroom and I heard him playing with the bag of wipes and as I ran out I heard a very sickening thunk and he started wailing. I have to say I felt like the worst mom in the world. I picked him up from where he was all turtled up on the floor. He was screaming and I didn't see any blood but I grabbed the hotel key and ran downstairs with him to find Tym or Finneas. Found Finneas and after an examination deemed him shook up but just fine. I think I was more hurt and upset than the boy was. I got him snuggled up with [livejournal.com profile] dverning and got myself calmed down more and got my veils back on and back down to the hall. Man I felt awful and just waited until mel got out of circle to tell him. I'm pretty sure if there had been blood I would have barged in on the circle for Sir Alfred. But it was okay. I wasn't really okay for a while but I finally calmed down, got reassured by lots of people and finally got the boy back up to the room with daddy and fed for bed.

Thanks to Patrick the Butcher we had drummers come back out at 10pm and I danced hard for 45 mins before just sitting down. My body wasn't happy with me and I knew it and pushing through it was not in my best interest. I had a wonderful time chatting with visiting Calontiry who happen to be my niece's roommates. (its a very, very small world at times). I also owe a guy from Mons a special thank you for buying me a margarita...I needed it and didn't have any cash and the bar that would charge to the room was closed. I danced and I need to practice more. I was very inspired by one of the gals there and Ari and I's commentary about how awesome she was which involved the phrase "damn that is hot" made Bredan stop drumming since we distracted him. She was awesome with the best isolations I have seen in a very, very long time. Things to aspire to.

Ari and I headed back to my room and the hrafn boys plus the Bran boys were having a very lively discussion on many topics over mead and beer and fun. The Benton was passed out and sleeping very nicely and could care less about the room full of Vikings. All good though. We all stayed up way to late talking. I slept okay...I was worried that Benton was going to roll off the bed...but we had him blocked in on all sides. I just worried as I do. Benton let us sleep in until 8am and then it was packing and working out what we wanted to do. Mel was very worse for wear and needed food so all decisions were on hold until we got him caffeinated and fed. We headed out to Cupz and Crepes in Awahtukee and had a really nice breakfast there. Then it was decided that a quick trip to Sweden and then home. We had been invited to a few BBQ's but all of us were pretty tired. Got home and relaxed with naps. I got my bike running and went for a quick sprint to get things back into memory (like clipping in/out and shifting).

I stopped off at one of the BBQ's on the way home to just say hi and that was good. Got home before the wind really picked up. My legs felt okay and the bike was comfortable which was good since I had a ride scheduled with the Simpleview team the next AM. We all went to bed early and I got up at 5am to get ready for my pickup by Ed at 520.

I was nervous about riding with a group of much fitter people and well, I did not too bad. I sucked it on the climb to the monument but a lot of that was getting used to riding and the fact that my quads were very tight from dancing. But I managed and even though I was slow I did it without too much trouble...course I had a good coach in Ed behind me the whole time. We couldn't ride the monument due to a running race so we did a loop from escalante back to broadway/houghton. By the end I was feeling pretty good though my legs were tired and my sit bones were telling me they didn't like me. I was okay with the fact we didn't get to do the monument. Next time though will be good.

Got home and grabbed the boys and we met Ed, Candace and Holly for breakfast at Joes. Had a really nice time. Benton grabbed a glass and knocked it over. Lol. After breakfast we headed to Ace Hardware for me to pick up supplies for my regalia piece. Got home and had a grumpy boy would just wanted to be held. It wasn't very conducive to me getting things done but by the end of the day I managed to watch almost all of Torchwood: Miracle Day, work on practicing the regalia piece construction, washed some dishes, did some laundry, cleaned out the freezer of breast milk (wow, there was a lot in there..now have only a month supply), watched a movie we hadn't seen (Secretariat) and spent some time with the family. I still felt kinda useless and burned out. I think that was the lack of sleep talking. I did plenty I shouldn't complain but I wasn't up for people or anything else but bed by the time we got Benton in bed. Missed the girls at Scribble but just time to relax and hit the sack early was good.

Oh, well, its Tuesday which is really Monday and Wednesday this week since we only have a 3 day work week. Time to push the paperwork.

Work was busy and I now have more work to do. Which is a bonus. Left after ERB to head to the kidney specialist. Basically I get more tests but she is pretty unconcerned. It was probably an anomaly but they will figure it out. She did instruct me to decrease my calcium supplement to 1 500mg per day. I'm okay with that though she said we will have to watch one of my indicators cause it can be affected by dark beers. Sighs. Well, I guess I can cope if I have to stop drinking but man that would suck.

Left there and came home really tired. My blood pressure was actually running really low while I was at the doctor. I'm gonna attribute that to the high carb lunch we had for a coirker's retirement. It was 102/60 and my pulse was slow as well. I took a nap when I got home and felt much better but I was out. Got up, had nummy dinner that mel made and then he retaught me how to do Egyptian diagonals. I then got going on that and when 7pm hit I put in the first disk from the first season of castle. OMG...so much fun! Though I really believe the JD Robb needs to get some royalties with Beckett's character cause if she's not a modern version of Eve Dallas, she really should be. Plus I think the books would be fun to read...guess they are coming out with the first Nikki Heat book this summer. LOL. I'll so pick it up. Anyhoo..I think I will be ordering the first and second seasons cause they are too much fun.

Things that don't make me happy are these allergy headaches. I got really used to not waking up with a headache...I guess I'm back to that and I really don't want to take anything. Sighs. Oh, well. Such is life.
Worked until 8 on the weaving and then I sat down and finished my cowl. I got it cast off and then took some photos, updated my ravelry page and then dug through my stash and figured out yarn for another scarf and then the mitts I want to make for work. I'm going to work on the mitts first since I think they will make great gifts. All good. Got done stash diving and then went back to weaving. So happy with it so far and this means I can get this off the loom this weekend and get the new bands up for working on in good time. Weekend is gonna be busy with projects and that makes me happy.

Well, paperwork is calling.
oh, pics of the cowl )

Well, work was meetings and more meetings....and each of them had food. I did not have good will power yesterday. Sighs. So, when I hit the gym I hit it hard and I then I got in my cardio which made me happy. All good though the back is a bit stiff. I need to work on my form for bar squats I think. Got home and made a nummy omelet for dinner and then got going on working out the patterns for TRM clothing. HRM was awesome and got me the measurement I needed for him and I'll just not put sleeves on her try on piece and take her measurement on Saturday if all goes well.

I got the patterns sketched out..I'm going to sanity check them versus the fabric on thursday since tonight is knit night. I'll probably have her hangerrock cut out on thursday too and then do all of the rest of the cutting and sewing on friday. So things are working out swimmingly, I just need to work on weaving to get things off of my loom.

I worked more on my cowl while watching Bones. Not sure where in the timeline for the show that episode landed but it was sad and dorky at the same time. Now I missed the first 5 mins of the show but basically bones and booth are meeting with the FBI shrink over a book he's written and some how they get onto how they started working together. Wow...it was funny to see everyone in their beginning roles. Wow. But the sad was Booth/Bones relationship...still not sure where that is going...poor booth. Though Richard made a comment that anyone with that lack of social skills wouldn't dress as nice but I kinda disagree. Bones is observant and she does have certain style preferences and she can observe what people are wearing and adapt.

EDIT: Looks like the episode was half way through the last season called The Parts of the Sum of the Whole as seen here.

So, then it was bed time. I worked on mel's back a bit and its much better. Then it was on to reading and sleeping. I slept well but I woke up with a headache. That does not make me happy.
ianuk: (drinking)
Bravo on a fun and fantastical new show. I really like the steampunk stuff you are using from Datamancer and other steamy construction folks. I also like the items we've seen so far and that is cool...though its more diesel punk than steamy but eh, I'm not complaining. I liked what I saw and I'm going to be DVR'ing this series for a bit since it will be on tuesday nights which is annoying.

What I will complain about is:
1) The area of SD that you are portraying does not look like that.
2) There are no "grasslands" like that near the badlands...its just grass, kinda and no trees or cows
3) Wasta is not a pretty little town with quaint little victorian buildings...nope.
4) You're license plate should be starting with "2" not 3 letters...it would have come from Pennington county sorry, bad!

Tuesday....

Well, work was stressful. As of this AM I still don't know what is going on with my job. I hope that they found someone else. My team was not happy to hear of the possibility of a move and that makes me glad. So, I was unhappy when I got home and I snuggled up on the couch and napped for over an hour with my cats. Luvs my girls. Mel had made soup for dinner and I wasn't interested. I had toast with pb&j. Got motivated and started my photo uploads. Though now I'm breaking up Saturday into 3 or 4 albums cause 409 is too many to view easily.

Then I worked and almost finished the first part of my masterwork. My hands got tired and I got sucked into watching the pilot episode of "New Amsterdam." Which was pretty cool. Dutch guy become immortal after saving a Native American chick during the Dutch taking over in the 1600s. Fast forward to today to a NYC homicide detective and lots of cool things ensue.

I had a couple of beers and settled in reading after my shower until mel came home. Karl sent freshly roasted coffee home with Ivan and we had some this AM...omg good. I slept great minus a wacky bobo dream that did not involve a death sentence but was so odd and not normal that I'm not posting it publicly. Luckily I woke up just in time to not complete the dream...thank goodness.

Mel agrees that my dreams are all stress related and I guess I can live with that for a few more weeks. I guess...
ianuk: (talk to the hand)
I think mel being ill is effecting my ability to do anything. Not sure. Work was way to many meetings with too little time in the middle to get things done. So, I didn't even touch the analysis. GRRRR!!! Got home after 5pm and set out to get chinese vittles for dinner. Mel needed hot and sour soup and I did too. I then lazed about on the couch for the evening...and didn't do anything but watch tv which I admit I hadn't done much of of late but it didn't make me feel very productive. Hopefully today will be different. I hope desperately that today will be different but the hubby is staying home and I'm uber tired. Well, hopefully something gets done today. I need coffee first though.

BTW, the first or second (don't know) CSI with the miniature maker was creepy and poor Greg and an inquest!
