Wow, Wow! BTY done good...in the imortal words of Zahira, "We do not suck" So a quick recap of yesterday.  [livejournal.com profile] bewilde  got offered her LAUREL!!!!  She's to give her answer at dragon's horde, which means that [livejournal.com profile] desertmoloch will have his hands full with the event since TRM will be there.  Oh, and Souther Scribble gets to do the scroll!

So, I had been doing really well until about 3am of the morning of the competition.  I woke up and realized I never had checked the fit of my brooches with the strap/eyelets on the form.  I was right when I put things together. Oh, Well, it still looked great and nobody commented on it.  I really , really should have had coffee but HL Bertana was great and patient and helped me set everything up with the dress.  I really need my own dress form but the one that [livejournal.com profile] kellyofc lent me worked great.

I was too warm during setup (making me more ucky) and then we had to rush over to the brewing site (another example of crappy phoenix directions) and then get back to site.  Court had already begun but we only missed two awards.  Then we really, really needed food and spent over 30 minutes trying to find the IHOP on the really, really bad map that was provided.  After coffee and food we came back.  Cecelia and Ivan and I had to wait for our interviews, so I sewed on trim to a caftan.  It was really funny that we three named each other as influences and mentors when asked by the crown.  So, then when that was done we went back and continued projects.  Mel was making little patches to put his needles on for the gift baskets and he presented those to HRM and she thought they were great.  So, finally after many hours of waiting court began.

Magdalen and Simon presented Sean Christopher for his booties.  I got great picts of that.  I'll upload them somewhere today.  Then they started calling out winners.  Mairi won alchemy novice for her soap.  Sorcha MacShainessy won a few other novice categories, Catriona won a few novices too.  Then the advanced categories were called.  Ivan won all five of his categories, I won 3, megan won 4 and I think dairini won 2.  I was figurign it was between Meg and Ivan for the win.   Well, it ended up being Meg!  This was after they called her up for her Queen's Grace.  Quite a day for her and Walrick stayed home!  We figure that it was Meg, Mel and then me.  Though I guess it was really close in the tally totals.   I was 40 points behind mel.  My cordial got dicked.  I think the same old men judge it and have a really odd sense of what a cordial should taste like.  They thought it was too alcoholic tasting ( I thought it was perfect) but they also thought Ivans strong beer was too weak (it was at 9.5%!)

So, really good day.  Hastini recommended that I put my Mincmeat pie documentation in for the Tournaments Illuminated!  All the judges thought it was too thorough for an A&S competition!  But all recommended that I publish it somewhere.  Wow!  Plus two other things got tagged to be included in the A&S Southwind coming up next year.  I've been thinking about the TI and just didn't know what I would write about...guess it will be food!

After packing up we decided that though it would be nice to have dinner with everyboday we really, really wanted to get home.  We stopped by kevins and hit cracker barrel with him for a good dinner.  I bought the cutest cover pie plate!  Mel thought it would be great around the holidays.  We got home about midnight, though we talked A&S stuff the whole way home.  The way that mel and I figure it, having meg as champion is great for all of us.  We get to help her out and get to see how being champion works before we get there.   Next year will be fun.  We're already thinking of what we will enter.  Well, I got a list of pennsic stuff to do now and we have to pick up the house before we can get started.  Yeah!

Next time you get hungry at something I'm at, come see me. Diabetics generally travel with food. That nasty cooler lid squealing open noise that echoed through the hall about every fifteen minutes was coming from my table.

It really wasn't the food but the caffeine I needed. Plus I was just too darned hot until things settled down. Setting up in 1/2 hour sucked cookies. I will have site open at 8am with court at 10 if I ever autocrat it.

That sounds like a good idea. I almost think I would have advised people that there were folding chairs available, but bringing your own chair is not a bad idea. I know I would have been a lot happier with my own big-butt chair yesterday, since I managed to pull a muscle in my lower back trying to find a way to be even slightly comfortable on the metal folding chair.

Yeah, I know how you feel...I have a warped tailbone (been broken twice) and the chairs did a number on me too. Yeah, I should have brought at least one of my wooley's to sit on.

Yeah, I got the headsup about TRMs at Dragons Hoarde. Shouldnt be too bad if the ceremony is on Sunday. Speaking of which I really need to call Their steward and see which day theyre coming down and coordinate with them. If they hold long court on Saturday we may be there a while...
