Well, work was okay. I had way too many meetings and whiny people to deal with but I did get some stuff done and things off of my plate. We're in discussions right now to see when I can start building things again to help with numbers and what management is going to do. I've, fortunately, hit a slow time in work and am in the clean up stages of lots of things. I've just gotta keep an eye on lots of things but nothing too pressing minus the Italian Job. Was able to have roach coach for lunch and pete and I sat outside under the big patio and had a really nice and quiet lunch. Got back to work and well meetings progressed till late. Got out of work and then drove to Pima Welding Supply and got my tank exchanged. Got home and lazed about being too hot to want to do much. Finally motivated to make us a dinner of egg sandwhiches on pita bread with pasta salad while watching Teen Titans Season 1. Mel got ready for FP, I got my tank set back up and I made 25 beads over an 1.5 hour period. Then I sat watching TV and reading Anglo Saxon Beads by Brugmann.

This is Brugmann's doctorate thesis and its rather interesting since she took a more analytical look at the bead finds that Margaret Guido did in her 1999 book. Guido cataloged things by a self made card index that classified things from a classical standpoint (folks from the late 1800s) and then applied everything with respect to color. Brugmann keeps up some of those conventions, makes good notation of what things are called and why and then categorizes them by type of manufacture. I think Guido was more of an archaeologist versus a bead maker and that has something to do with her approach. Her book is on the way and I'll compare but so far the reading has been fascinating. I've been working on practicing the bead shape for my A&S entry and I've so far found about 3 different ways to get similar results. So, I need to do some more reading. Course all of this beadyness made me dream of beads all night!

So I made beads, read about beads and had a nice night. Got to bed nicely early but I'm really tired this morning. No idea why. Got some interesting news that I'm still not happy about but it will be dealt with. Today should be okay. I need to finish up a model, update a drawing and get some phone calls in to see if I'm driving to Phx tomorrow to see some parts. Plus I need to go shopping for gift basket stuff, food for the weekend and sundries. I need to also get on my bike and ride a good long ride (10+ miles). I'm sick of my jeans not fitting and I guess I need to up the mileage to compensate. I know we have a few people over tonight for A&S help and my house is a mess. Hopefully I can get mel to do the dishes and clean up the front room...We shall see. On we trudge.

Yay for beadyness! I'm glad you got to get some hands-on creative time, it sounded like you needed it. :)

Yay!

I met a really nice lady at a local arts event recently, and she invited me over to play with torches and glass. I'm so excited! We haven't quite figured out the WHEN yet, but I'm excited anyway!

All your talk of beads makes me remind myself that this summer, I need to play with my torch.

Glass beads...I have an oxy-propane minor burner torch that I use to melt glass rods and wind them around coated mandrels to make beads. Since I do the medieval thing...beads are a lot of my Norse/Rus jewelry. I got into doing my own after taking a class about 5 years ago and have finally gotten back into the learning and improving stage. I had had a slump for over a few years where nothing was improving. I had gotten the new torch and things were bad for a while and I now I have the hang of them.

Oh WOW!
