Coronation Weekend
May. 5th, 2008 07:15 amWell, that was a lot of fun. The trip up was pretty uneventful and we made it in 5.5 hours taking I-10 to I-17 to the Carefree highway to wickenburg and up. Had a faboo meal of all you can eat fish fry at the Black Bear Diner and then chatted with folks back at the hotel till about 11pm. Early night which was okay. Got to sleep in in the AM and have a nummy breakfast with the SCA crewe. I managed to find an outfit that made the hubcap look not so ostentatious. The park was nice and the ramada kept everything pretty cool during the courts but by the later afternoon I had to switch out my middle coat for just my caftan. The best part had to be seeing
american_knight's face when
scribe_ari and I presented his ducal. His eyes got wide, his jaw dropped and the words "WTH" could be seen coming out of his mouth. It was pricelss.
Had a nummy feast and got to listen to the bard of the sun competition. Got back to the hotel and got a most glorius shower...and then we went to see IRONMAN!!! woot! Many pluses to seeing it in laughlin. #1 - The SCA crewe took up 2 entire rows of seats, #2- I can haz beer with my movie!!! SCORE! and #3- The opening message from the theatre was precious in a crazy cat lady way. The minus was that by about half way through I was getting a splitting headache. Will and Dom got mel and I back to the hotel and I rummaged for drugs, had a cup of water and then collapsed on the bed with a cool washcloth over my eyes. Somewhere after that mel left to go chat with ed and I eventually collasped into sleep in a cold dark room.
Sunday, I woke up and still had a headache..I got a shower and hoped it would help..it did a bit. Got dressed while mel was still in bed and headed for coffee. I think I drank 2 cups before I even had a bite to eat. It was a madhouse of SCA folks for a bit and then it was the waffle line kung fu which the modern folks didn't get. It was also amazing to see who can read directions and who can not. Some people are part of the epic fail. Mel got to breakfast just as I was in my 3rd cup of coffee. I was feeling slightly better. I managed to ingest food and more caffeine and was almost human. We got the car repacked and the room cleaned up and got to site with plenty of time to get the "flying pig" set up...course I just chatted up folks from starkhafn cause it was good to see a few familiar faces and check out a cool box that the Baron had made. The flying pig was up and we got settled for a while before court. Opening court was fun...lots of good awards. Though in the pictures I need to remember to cross my feet at the ankles...though I don't think I looked grumpy stitching..go me! Congratulations to
corinnemacleod for having the quickest, least conflict involving calendar meeting EVAH! You go girl!! I then wrangled food for a few folks with the help of the every lovely
duchess_asa and then I got my brain back in gear after a good burger. Mel fought well in his first King's Champion and then the crewe under the flying pig got things packed up and ready for court. We left site about 4pm and after a quick dash to a circle k with the funniest clerk staff in existence we drove home. A quick stop in wickenburg for potty and then one in phx for beer and food and we were home by 1045pm. I got in the shower while mel unloaded and I was out when he came to bed. We slept in about 20mins this AM.
Today should be filled with a few meetings and getting some work out the door. Hopefully my supplier sent the DVD they promised and I can get working on crunching their data. Then it will be shopping for a few essentials and a nice night at scribble.
