Thursday -
Our flights were on time in wonderfully comfy aircraft with Frontier Airlines. I was even more impressed that we were only on the ground 20mins in Denver and our luggage made it to our plane without a hitch. Got to Rapid and it was cool but not raining as I had feared. We got our snazzy nissan altima with keyless ignition (that was WEIRD) and travelled to get our growler filled with good brew and then on to site. Unfortunately, the directions we had were for folks not familiar with the area and we got a bit lost. Got a blackhills map and were on the road again and got to site about 940pm. The cabin was nice and toasty and we surprised many folks with arriving unannounced. Mingo made nummy food and the new shire seneschal made this meat roll thingy that was uber tasty. We stayed up a bit chatting with everyone and chatting with folks as they arrived. Drank some of the beer and it was good. I was wired and couldn't sleep until about 4am but I did okay.

Friday -
We had a nummy hash breakfast, looked at merchants got to see people who we hadn't seen in years and then we got on the field for a good tourney (I went to the 4th round). During the breaks in the tourney the King of Artemesia challenged me to a "best 6 out of 10" which I did 4 out of 10 wins. The altitude was making me suck air a bit but it was good. Course we realized that half way through he thought I was Sir Roisin, since there were only 3 or 4girls and I guess our helms look a like to him. It was funny. Did really good during the melee's and then we were done for the day. Mel did lots of pick ups. I got a shower and took pictures and chatted with people. Learned some chasing techniques for a Laurel in metalwork and there was much hilarity with jibing Giovanni about crafty stuff. Dinner was tasty and we had a good time chatting in the cabin till about 1am.

Saturday -
I slept great but that meant I must have hit the stoopid switch in my sleep. I was seriously a klutz all day. I managed to get chucked into the "fjord" by Hrodr kinda hard and landed not so well. I tripped over a pole arm on the ground and caught my self by letting my knee and hip flex in not so great ways. I got my lanyard for my sword caught up on my nasal of my helmet which meant super icky death by spears and then I hit a great sword guy 4 times in his huge, unarmored belly, making sure to twist my hip each with each shot and he didn't take them and on the 5th try he swung down and hit my with the quillions in the arm versus the blade. I stood out a few melees while the feeling returned to my hand and fought one more and was too mad to continue. I have this weird sense of "I have to stay on the field for my troops" and mel was like "honey, not our event and I'm you're only troop." So I got changed and sat on the edge of the field embroidering while the last melee finished and the hour or so of pickups continued. Lars had Ivan's lunch money...alot. I got to give out beads to Ellis and a few others and it was a nice day to sit and chat in the nice mountain air. Everyone else thought it was hot but it was a nice winter day in Atenveldt. Had to have a laurel intervention with one of our local scribes, they A&S person had decided that open populace judging was better than a bean count and her judging sheets did not match her expectations... and Ivan and I and Tati got here calmed down and her confidence back up. The autocrat was not amused by the A&S person's decisions for the tourney and was also upset about her own judging sheets. Yeah. Then we got asked what chairs we needed to have set up for court and my comment was "Are TRM of Artemesia or Northshield requesting we sit or are they inquiring if we want to sit? Cause we'd like to just sit in the grass and watch court...we got to sit in the grass. It was lovely. Wonderfully fun court. Drey got to herald. Lots of good awards. I had a pun streak with another guy for about 10 puns in a row back and forth. Mel was squirming from it. It got cold once the sun went down and the coats and hats came out. We traveled from camp to camp, fire to fire chatting up folks and then ended up back at the cabin in time to watch Baron Billy get brought in to pray to the porcelain gods. He was very rough and ended up sleeping in the bathroom for quite a while. Snerk.

Sunday -
Slept well that night too and got up for coffee earlier than I wanted but folks were up and about. Mel was a slug a bed and then we got packed up after nummy breakfast and good byes. We headed back to see our alma mater. Many things have changed, some things stayed the same. Tooled around downtown but most everything was closed cause it sunday. Had lunch at Sanford's and then drove around for a bit before we had icecream at armadillo's and then off the airport. I bought a pair of earrings at the airport gift shop when mel realized he'd left his hat at the restaurant. Made a phone call and the hat is on its way home to us. Our flights were good but my blood sugar was wacked out. Eh. We got home a bit early and got our bags to the cars and drove home. Mel wasn't hungry so I packed for chicago and then had a toasted bagel. I got the bag packed and things charging and then richard was over. He thought we were coming home today. The girls were lovey and after a must needed shower for all of the soreness (the bruise on my arm is massive) I slept wonderfully.

Monday -
Well, I'm at work for a few hours before I go to chicago. Got a few things left to handle and get going...so all good. Gonna miss the hubby and the kitties. But the windy city should be fun and this time I don't have the tummy flu.

So I told this to Roisin and she thought it funny also. I believe she felt you did good fighting though.

Her LJ is LadyRoisin, since you obviously need it.

Thank you...now on the list of folks I read.

It was quite amusing being mistaken...on the bruise front its been weird with all of the people, like TSA agents saying "Ma'am are you sure you're okay" and I blink and say "its from martial arts!" and they get relieved is really funny.

Bruising

Duchess Elina has gotten this down to an art. As they start to say "You know you don't have to take that" she smiles and says "Full Contact Martial Arts".

Peace
