I had decided in the afternoon that I was going to bike. I didn't care that it was windy, I didn't care that it was 100ºF, I didn't care that I was gonna do hills, I was going out. I even saw Maliaus out on his bike and that was my true sign that I needed to go on my bike.

Mel and I cleaned and he promised to vacuum while I was gone and I was happy with that. I was going to do a long hilly ride, basically to harrison, past Ed's to irvington and back home. It started out well enough and I made good time to the big hill on golf links. Then my lungs started to get tight and by the time I made it up the hill things weren't working right. I was wheezing and had started coughing and I had to stop around the corner at harrison in the shade for a while. I rested, cleared my lungs and then headed down harrison. I really should have just stopped and called for help but I biked down past ed's, just to the horse ranch and I had to stop and couldn't get my breath. I slowly made it around back to ed's (over a mile) and I arrived wheezing, coughing and bad at [livejournal.com profile] duches_asa door.

Candace, I'm sorry if I scared the crap out of you but mel was very happy that you were home, cause he was very concerned. Thank you and give vorja hugs for the help and comfort and use of the phone. Mel got me home and I collapsed on the floor for a bit. Then I changed clothes and curled up on the couch and fell asleep. I awoke when folks turned up for scribble and I'm not doing anything. I'm headachey and tired and I think after this piece of toast I'm going to entrust the house to the guest and go to bed.

I think I went 7 miles..I'm sure it was something icky like 12mph. Suck, but at least I got out.

Hon, do you ever use your inhalor prior to working out? If you carry/use an emergency inhalor, such as albuterol, you may find that your breathing is a LOT better during rides if you use the inhalor about 20-30 minutes before you head out.

I had a rough time when Spring started up, and had a couple rides where I was wheezing pretty badly at the end-- and then remembered that both the allergist AND the asthma specialist I saw thru my teens had both suggested using the inhalor prior to exertion. It might help you avoid such a worrisome situation.

*hugs*

I have a rescue inhaler, xopanex since albuturol makes me keel over, that I never use...this is the first time I've had to use it in quite a few years. I get it refilled every year and don't use it.

Usually, I get some congestion about 3 miles in, I spit and cough it all out and am fine. yesterday, not the case and it was very, very surreal.

I am breathing better but I feel like I have a golf ball that needs to be coughed up...I know wonderful imagery. Lungs are burning but I guess it could be worse.

I am glad you are feeling better. You didn't scare me. You more surprised me. Glad I was home and could help!
