On the one hand, yes, they go too far much of the time.
On the other hand, I kind of agree with their goals and positions a lot of the time, and one thing you can not fault them for is courage! Those are some crazy-ass sumbitches, y'know?
And at least they did have this to say: Greenpeace acknowledged the protest is illegal and dangerous, but said it does not believe the sign will damage the solid granite structure.
Most people really have no idea how fragile that monument is...any new anchor could cause issues with the rapid freeze and thaw issues that happen. The Black Hills holds the record for the quickest temperature drop and I've experienced this.
They "don't believe the sign will damage" but they didn't know for sure. Not something I'd risk to a symbol of America.
Course I do have to say, why didn't the rangers shoot them? They have guns and ammo...but the sensors on the mountain caught them..it just takes time to get to them.
Ah, the native population...thats a completely different topic that is a different thing. The Native American's in SD are a special breed...ask us about it sometime.
