Well, yesterday was a good day...stressful in the "must get things done" way but good none the less. I was on fire with productivity and praise so good. I'm glad that things are not so fast today that I can catch back up on everything else that has been on the wayside while I've been working on that report draft. But only a half day today which is nice...cause I have things to do and movies to see!

Got home and I relaxed on the couch with mel and the cats. Snuggles were needed and I was happy to sit and pet the kitties. Mel and I sat reading Paraabnormal which is a hoot and a half and then I knuckled, down after getting some chicken on to steam, to do more calligraphy. My commentary that I needed practice on gothic littera bastarde was true....so I lined out a scroll and had the book open and wrote the entire thing in that script and then I did another one. I got the last two scrolls (which aren't even painted) lined and had text pencilled in.

Course I think I need to put some tips and tricks in here...
So, since I've been doing a lot of calligraphy there are many ways to get your writing on the page. One thing that I learned from [livejournal.com profile] callasandivy was that after you have the lines on the paper, pencil in your text so you have your spacing down. Its so simple its brilliant! Cause I'm not the best at spacing sometimes and this really helps!
So, on to lining the page. Make sure that you square things up. Sometimes our designs are not "level" and you have to make sure things are square to the design, not to the edges of the page. I usually put lines around the design to square it up and then I make a square box from those lines to make sure things stay square..cause slantly text sucks. You can use a t-square for this or I really, really like the clear rulers with the grids on them. they are perfect! I
Once I have the box I then put a line down the middle vertically through it and then place my clear ruler over that line and mark off on either side of the ruler my spacing. Then I line up those marks with the vertical lines of the box and put in the lines for the text. Why do it that way? Well, I was finding that if I put hash marks for spacing on the outside lines of the box I tended to skew things...with things in the middle I can line stuff up on the grid of my ruler much easier and get a better lining than I did before. Your mileage may very for this technique but it works for me.

I hope to do the calligraphy on the last 3 scrolls in my case and be done with that so I can work on A&S. I have this issue that I can't put stuff down until its done before I start something else. If everything has the same deadline I can do it but with things do at different times I work the first due date stuff first. Anybody else do that? Then after I clean up the scrolls for pencil marks and paint on the kingdom arms they will be ready to turn in. Course I might just hand over the last two unpainted to Tati and then they can get turned in at the same time as the others...hmmmmm. We shall see. Then I won't be distracted and want to paint on them versus my A&S stuff.

Anyhoo...time to buckle down and get some paperwork cranked out. All good.

Hm.. I used to have an icon that was from a medieval carving, had a scribe hunched over a desk... wonder where I saved that? Will look on my laptop at home tonight if you like. :)
