Weekend at the Retreat

Well, we had a really good time, so good in fact...I really wish I took today off to relax and get back in the groove. I had my laptop...I could have worked from home part of the day but I came in..le sigh.
Thursday we left about 4pm and got on the road. The drive was good and we hit no traffic or weirdness the entire way until we got about 40 miles from site. We stopped off in Blythe at the Courtesy Coffee Shoppe and it was a nice retro 60s diner. Good food and good service. Our troubles with traffic started with them closing a highway we normally use to short cut to an interstate in CA. We went further down I-10 and got directly on the I-5. We were very late compared to previous years due to leaving so late. I blame my work and my need for a chiro appointment. We now know to not leave any later than 2 pm. Its much better that way. Once we got on the i-5 we were stopped 8 miles from our hotel by an RV fire. We got past the it and a subsequent wreck and got to the hotel about 1230 am. They had our reservation goofed. I'll be talking with holiday inn about that and we finally got to your room at 1245am. Bleah. We slept okay...I was very restless and my side didn't hurt but it had pressure. Glenn fixed me really good an I felt really great after a nights sleep.
Got going with a good breakfast and got to site a bit after 10am after taking an unexpected detour. We didn't turn off at the right exit and had to turn around about 12 miles up the road. Got ourselves set up and then just relaxed. It was nice. It was odd without Bjo and John (who were in Montana for John's sister, she was dying). Had a good time and I taught 6 people how to crochet (well, one of them knew but needed help with some tricky bits). I was very happy about that and I got
lissamc daughter, Michelle, addicted, I think. I mordanted my yarn for dyeing the next day, made 3 dryer felt balls and just chilled. I slept really well that night and had a good time working on my crochet and my knitting.

Optim Wool Fiber It has an uber long staple and I finally got it spinning pretty good. My stamina for spinning though is short. I managed to get a bit on my spindle though and that made me happy. Mel had a full class on nalbinding and he learned some 3-1 broken twill and I took Tunisian Crochet. It was awesome and I know I'm going to be doing some of that soon. I have a book from last year and now things make sense. I taught more folks crochet in the evening. After dinner we had the raffle and I won 4 oz of angora fiber and a really, really neato EAGLE brand knitting bag. It had pockets on the outside for yarn and there is an eyelet that goes into the bag to go with your project. No yarn tangles! Plus it has lots of internal pockets and space to put needles and notions. Its the bomb.

I worked on my knitted hat and crochet the rest of the night until my hands go too cold. I did take a class on fiber tools in medieval manuscripts and chemistry of color theory that were both really interesting. I have more pictures from my own research to share with the folks on the fiber tools so that was cool to see. Oh, and on Saturday I also tie-dyed 2 tshirts and a scarf for myself.
Sunday was busy packing up and helping tie-dye a bunch of kids shirts for the flood relief victims in Tennessee. I think I dyed about 20 shirts or so...I'm not sure I lost track...it was a lot. The we finished packing showered and left site about 1pm. We got home at 10pm due to some traffic on i10 just east of the CA/AZ border. Ate not so good for us dinner in Gila Bend and then were home. I finished one item for
fibergeek's pirogi on the drive home and I worked on almost finishing my knit hat. I cast it off and then started sewing it together. I have about 6 inches of that left and some pom-poms. Yes, I said pom-poms. Its gonna be fun.
The girls were happy to see us and we were in bed by about 11pm or so. I slept good and could have used more. I'm tired from the drive and like always I wish we had one more day at the retreat or at least one more day to be projecty. Busy week here at the factory and I'm struggling with the reading of boring specs. Eh, it will be okay.
I'll post my photos and stuff soon. I still have to process coronation and barmaids
