Saw a quote yesterday on Twitter that I'm going to retype here with grammar and spelling not corrected:
Raveneil:
fanfiction is so wild cause im like...ugh im not in the mood to read a book....i'll just read an 82k word fic instead....
Brawltogethernow responds:
Look... To start a book...You have to make room in yourself for new characters and worlds. Do I look like I have the emotional energy for that? Do I look like I can trust like that right now? Just show me the things I already know pay good returns on my investment, except I also want to read something new so I guess they can be in a coffee shop this time.
This right there is correct. I think that is my bargaining chip in my brain right now. Keep with the mostly familiar and stay for the new way to see it. Its really a good view point.
Heck, I'm attempting to read a series set in the same world as another series I absolutely love and I just can't care about the protagonist....I got thrown in to them being them without the build up....last time we saw them in the books they were wee.....now they are 20s and I don't like this person at all...just can't continue. Everything else from this author in this world I've loved...I just can't with this series....but I feel bad cause I have the actual books...I can't just not read it. Weird huh? Arbitrary reading rules for myself.
