On Monday I made a trip to target....we needed a lot of necessary stuff like toilet paper so I trundled to Target. It was quiet and a bit picked over but there were so few people that I wandered which I haven't done in a while. It was nice. I also splurged and got the cats a Halloween Themed cat scratcher which they seem to somewhat like. I was a mused. Sad that due to the dairy allergy all of the awesome candy really isn't for me any longer unless I buy special vegan stuff. But....Oreos are perfectly fine. So I bought a pack of chocolate and a pack of peanut butter ones. My little treat. And we found out the boyo doesn't like them. So Oreos are for adults! Woot.

Had a nice Zoom Arts night with the folks and was able to sew on my feather weight and work out some things on the pattern for the gathered neckline. Now part of me is not liking this pattern since it seems a waste and harder to sew but now that I've sat and thought about it it its much easier to mod later I think....So we shall see. I got help from Mistress Raven back East and from a surprise visit from Ari yesterday. I was also able to give her here spoopy gifts. It was nice to get a bit of mind melding with the BFF in person for a few minutes.

Tonight I hope to work on that pattern a bit more and get things sewn up enough to start gathering the neckline.

While I was at Target I picked up some generic Xyzal for my allergies. It warns you to only take it at night due to causing drowsiness. So I did as I was told for two nights. Both nights even though I was physically exhausted (and one of those nights I did HIIT) and I was up for hours past bedtime wired and exhausted. Yeah...not using that any longer cause eff that noise I need my sleep. It does help with allergies but I burn through it before the 24 hours are up. Ugh.

I made it back to HIIT after a 2 week absence due to the allergy icks and it was hard. Gods so hard but I did it. My left foot is unhappy and out and refused to be stable for jumps. I need to make an appointment for my chiro cause damn.

Still reading 42) Clockwork Crown and I hit the surprising twist and just kinda swore when it happened. That was very nice Ms. Beth Cato, very nice.
ianuk: (here's looking at you)
Well, things are at CRUNCH time and with me feeling off and tired (but no more fever!) I went home from work a couple hours early and slept. I got a good hour nap in and got going on my laundry. The boys came home and I got to sewing on the lining down to the edge of the jacket. I realized 3/4 of the way around that if I'd been more careful you wouldn't be able to see the stitches but meh. I got my stuff together and headed to scribble and the rest of the "Cosplay Pit Crew". Got there and Ari and I got my wig settled. One of the reason I had such an issue with it to start with was I had pinned the darned wig to my foam head cock-eyed which led to me having lots of issues. The other is that wigs like the kind I bought are made to look flush from the top but if you do an "up do" its sparse and you see the structure of the netting underneath. Ari figured out how do it and I held the head and hair and stuff and we got it to a really pretty pseudo-Japanese style. It will look perfect with some flowers in places and stuff. We could have used one of these Wig Stands and I will definitely be picking one up.

Then [livejournal.com profile] lferion arrived with my crinoline and then she got me into my corset so we could finalize the collar and the back pleats on the jacket. Its gonna look sharp. I probably have about 3 hours left of sewing on the jacket with finishing the collar stitching, tacking the lapel and pleats, hooks and eyes and buttons. It doable tonight though I shall persevere. With help from the pit crew I think.

Today I will be making packing lists based on costumes and also start pulling things for usage. It should be doable. I also need to get my eyebrows waxed and my toes done. I hope to do that tomorrow as well as a quick target trip for last minute essentials.

Just want to state again that none of this cosplay stuff would be possible without Willa, Bridget, Icka, Wander, Elinor, Sioux, Ari and Danabren. oof.

Friday was Benton's 2 week checkup. He had gained a pound since the day after he left the hospital. Now weighing in at 7# 14.5 oz. He was pretty grumpy about getting blood drawn for more genetic testing but settled down once he was in the car. We got home and after lunch and naps mel got to work on moving stuff into the new shop. They had finished the install on Thursday and for the city to do the final inspection mel has to dismantle the entire old shop and the roof of the shop that was there when we moved in. Sighs.

Saturday Mel, Richard and Malaius worked and got everything moved over and started the tear down. Mel is still trying to figure out how to get the roof section off without damaging things. Its annoying but as Richard said, mel never liked the roof and now we can just get the contractor for the carport addition to put up a new roof there and a new roof over the back door. So, not all bad just annoying right now.

Saturday afternoon the college crewe of Mughi, Jessie, Kim and Zane stopped by after going to the street fair. We kibitzed for a while, had dinner at Nimbus and then gelato at frost before we came home. It was so good to see them and Benton was uber cute. Everyone at nimbus came to visit him cause he was snuggled up with a monkey blanket. LOL. He was very cute as you can see here.

We had a really good night last night. Everyone slept really good. Mel didn't even wake for the middle late night feeding and that was okay. He worked hard that day and needed more of a rest. I think I'm doing okay. I was falling asleep during the feedings which is okay cause he unlatches about 15 mins in so I doze a bit and then we switch sides. All good.

I think a walk today sounds good since its cooler than yesterday. But that will be after lunch. Jackie from Joe's just dropped off a traditional Lebonese "mother's soup". It smells so good. Beef, tons of veggies and spices. Nom.

All good thus far for the weekend, I have to say.

Well, monday I woke up with lots of pain in my abdomen and back and I thought it was gas, so I was gonna head into work a bit late. Well, it didn't go away and subsequent attempts to get up didn't go well. So, I stayed in bed and finally moved to the couch about 10 am. I slept most of the day. The pain never got more than a dull icky ache. I tried to throw up and failed to see if that would help the tummy and nope. Got up at 530pm to shower and eat something. Felt okay but not great for a few hours. The pain was getting worse the more I was sitting up and I was running a mild temp. Got up on Tuesday with the samething. I forced myself to drive to work and pick up the work laptop. Got home, called the doc and after chatting back and forth with the nurse they sent me to the ER.

I've never been to the ER for me, or to a hospital for me for that matter. So, I had my knitting and went. I called [livejournal.com profile] cowboy_r when they decided it wasn't infection and were going to do a CT scan to see if I had kidney stones or something else. He was awesome and came and sat with me through the test and then while we waited for results. I slept for a while which was good. They gave me stuff for the nausea and for the pain so I was a a bit more comfortable. I found out that I can knit with a hand IV and that is good for future issues I guess. [livejournal.com profile] cowboy_r was awesome. He's really good with the hospital thing and made me feel much better by having someone there with me.
The final result was that I probably have a stomach virus in conjunction with a pulled muscle. Odd but I guess that works. The ER doc had a great bedside manner and he was very cool. They have a few more tests they were culturing to see if I had an infection all of teh other tests didn't pick up but I was sent home to rest, drink lots of fluids and take care of the muscles with pain meds. The anti nausea stuff was good. I think that was the biggest thing that was bothering me besides the pain. I got more nauseous as the evening went on and I went to bed early. I slept good but I should have taken more pain meds so I woke up very sore.

I've been logged into the work net since about 730 and have been working on plenty of paperwork...though one our systems seems to have shut down so I can't do some of the stuff I need to. Hopefully it will be up soon. Checking with coirkers to see if its just the overnet connection or the system. Looks like it was a temporary outage.

I'm gonna take the drugs and see how things go today. I'm not as tired today so I know that is a good sign. And coffee is tasting really good though eating is meh. I had a good lunch yesterday and then not anything else but a piece of toast. Same this AM. bleah. Glad I went and got the work laptop though I'd have gone in and been miserable and I'm much more comfy here. Plus I think I'm going to be getting the heating pad to snuggle up with. That sounds good. Well, that is the update for the last few days. I'm about 2 inches from my heel flap on the first sock of my second pair of socks. All good.

Went and saw [livejournal.com profile] cowboy_r at TMC room 537. Use the North East Entrance to get to his room easily.

He's doing well, not hooked up to any IV's and only on telemetry. His heart attack was really, really mild. He felt some pressure earlier on Saturday night and thought it was just food gas, then later he felt pain under his scapula. It was then that he decided to head to the hospital. Since it was after midnight and his aunt was out and his uncle was at a sleep study he drove himself to the ER. They triaged him immediately after he said "there is a possibility I'm having a heart attack." and they confirmed his suspicions. He has a very, very small blockage on one very small vein on his heart. So small that they almost didn't see it. Its too small for a stint. So, it was very, very mild but still serious.

The doctor came in while I was there and said they would be putting him on cholesterol meds and statins. Plus, they recommended exercise and loosing weight as well since he's too young for this. I finally got to meet the talented mister [livejournal.com profile] hamner and [livejournal.com profile] cowboy_r's 2 uncles. They are fun. Reagan's sense of humor comes from his family. You can so tell...plus they read Glen Cook...so how bad can they be?

So, for those who want to visit, he's under observation for another 24 hours. Then he will be home.

I have to say, hospitals still creep me out. I'm not used to the "open" format the ones in Tucson have...you can't just walk in the one's in SD and find people. Very, very odd.

Things are going..well, it seems the calm before the storm on things but we shall see.

In odd news, Chuck of the "gun show" at work had a weight lifting accident at the work gym yesterday. He was doing calf raises with 225lbs (yes, he's a big guy) and the box he was doing the raises on shifted, he pitched forward and face planted on the floor with the bar on his neck. Now he admits, he forgot, for the first time to raise the catch bars on the system but he still would have face planted, broke a tooth and went through his lip. 30 stitches and a big fat lip later he's okay. Its just weird.

Poor guy! But he's a tough cookie.

Well, I'm taking longer to reset myself than I thought but I'm doing much better...especially compared to last week. Got home on time, worked in the shop on A&S stuff. Its going but I need to email Stefan and see if I'm doing things right and to find out when he will be back.

Did that for about an hour and then got things organized to have me go to knit night. It took me a while to get things together and I even brought the hat to frog. It was a big night with the other knit group joining us. We were a loud bunch and lots of good stories going around. I learned how to purl correctly, how to ID a pearl versus a knit and how to do ribbing. My first real project will be a scarf out of Noro but I'm practicing now. I'm happy about that...and I guess I look like I know what I'm doing since people were asking what I was "swatching" for...tee hee.

After knit night, [livejournal.com profile] scribe_ari and I headed to Frost for gelato. They had a rum raisin that tasted just like butter rum life savers which are my fav life saver. We stayed sitting outside discussing books and getting me up on some discworld knowledge since I've never read any of the books. It was a good night. The quote of the evening: "Is that a pump cavitating*?" and realizing that no, it was people KISSING AT THE NEXT TABLE!!!

I'm about to hit the shower and then snuggle into bed to read more about Pres Garfield's assassination.

Feeling much better and that is a good thing.

*to form cavities or bubbles transitive verb : to cavitate in; ie a pump sucking air versus water

So, I have the laundry hydra with one head left and the body to dispose of (translate, last load in washer and I have laundry to put away), with the help of [livejournal.com profile] meowandbark and [livejournal.com profile] lferion we have 3 bridesmaids sets of jewelry, one bride set and a necklace for the flower girl. See later in this post for pictures. Then I made 2 rhubarb pies, I also callig'd 4 scrolls, made a nummy crockpot dinner and have just one more to do tomorrow during scribble (plus the extras in my case). Plus Wander took in my bridesmaid's dress and it is now faboo. I also did all of the dishes and have the dishwasher loaded. pretty good day. I feel accomplished. Good day.

Well, it was a busy weekend..but not in the normal ways. Friday at work I accomplished much and I got to have to good time with DOM Lehrman. Got home on time and got the last of the house cleaned up for the small party for mel's b-day. We have a few close friends over for food and zombie fun. The funny thing is almost everyone brought a version of potato salad. Omg, it was funny. Mel's mom called, not expecting us to be home, and he talked with her a bit before I drug him out for food and friends. Many games of Last Night on Earth and Killer Bunnies ensued and food was good. Everyone like the kung fu panda cake. Folks started drifting home about midnight and then it was bedtime.

Had breakfast with [livejournal.com profile] public_shaylan at joe's on saturday morning and then it was home to work on projects. Mel worked on sealing up the shop (caulk) and painting the outside boards. I worked all day on tablet weaving. Then Anya and Robert were over to get advice/help on shoes. I also showed anya some basics on tablet weaving. I finished up the weaving and then called my mom. We had a good long chat. Then I kinda lazed about watching tv...I think I even fell asleep on the floor for a while. Mel and Richard got the secondary cooler going after the sun went down a bit and it was very nice and cool in the family room. We watched fantastic 4 and The Day after Tomorrow. The latter was way better than mel or I imagined. I was actually kinda surprised at how good it was. So that was saturday.

Sunday I slept in a bit and then got coffee. Mel spun up the last of some blue face Leicester(sp?) wool on the travel wheel and then we headed out to meet [livejournal.com profile] duchess_asa and [livejournal.com profile] american_knight out at the movies for kung fu panda. It was awesome..seriously lots of fun, even with the projector breaking in the middle. So many good moves and one liners wow. Got done from that and we perused the game store (mel picked up the players for 4th edition) and then swung into Macy's for some housewares browsing. I was looking for another sugar bow since a few of our friends like white sugar in things...so we need another one. Didn't find anything in the price range I wanted (<$6) and then we were hungry and headed home for lunch. I ate the last bocca italian sausage and it was pretty good surprisingly. Richard was over and I think he was working on his new table...not sure. The afternoon kinda blurred. Roland came over for casting and mel and richard worked on further cleaning on working on the shop (including putting up the bike racks). I went shopping and then got potatoes onto the grill and rhubarb pie into the oven. Had Jenny, roland and richard for dinner and we had steaks, potatoes and wilted spinach. The pie turned out lovely but had to cool for about an hour before we could dig in.

After dinner the boys went back to the shop and mina and I watched tv and chatted. The boys eventually came in and we watched...I'm not even sure what. But it was fun. Folks headed out about 10pm and then it was time for bed. I had very vivid dreams about odd SCA things...not sure what it was all about but I really, really didn't want to get up this morning. But it is only a 4 day work week and I think I should be able to finish a few tasks this week.

After work I need to get to the banner finishing...I didn't get to it all weekend and I promised people I'd have them out on Tuesday...We'll see what I can do. I want to finish off the other panels that are blank...so we shall see. I can do it.

ugh.

There are times when you try to do the right thing for people but it just pisses them off. GAH! Stoopid words.

Well, I actually got to make beads but later in the day. My studio took all of 15 mins to finish prepping, then I dipped rods and so I read until meg picked me up for lunch. We ended up at Chili's which was good. Cora was being a bit fussy but oh so cute! We then traipsed over to Barnes and Noble with cora in her new sling and she immediately fell asleep. I picked up Small Favors by Jim Butcher, Undead and Uneasy by Mary Janice Davidson and Altogether Dead from Charlene Harris. Then we went to Target to pick up a few things. I'm looking for a wall charger for my touch but didn't like the one they had...but we had a good time shopping. Then it was home. Frodi was over researching, Thyra was playing with an air compressor and the boys were either cleaning up the shop or working on medieval tool benches. I got my kiln turned on and then sat reading until it alarmed that it was to temperature. I made beads for about an hour...which was about 25 beads. I have no stamina right now and my table is too high which is easily dealt with once I move mel's second spinning wheel around. Frodi watched for a while. I finished up and then was a bad girl and started reading Small Favors. Yeah, got sucked in after the first few pages and had to put it down at bed time. Wow, is all I can say. A bit more action while we're trying to figure out things but good none the less. Right now things are at an interesting point. I'll have to restrain myself when I get home...course I think I'll just turn the kiln on and then read until its ready.

Not sure what work has in store today...I didn't write up my to-do list for this week. oops. Guess I'll just have to wing it.

I dinked around most of the day. Got tax stuff to[profile] thyririgain and then I got eegees for me and the boys.  Mel and Richard were just finishing up putting up the first wall on the shop.  We're pretty sure that they will have the shop enclosed by the end of Saturday.  Which is spiffy.  I worked on some other tax stuff to send [profile] thyririgain and worked on my website.  I got a few class handouts and a few documentations up on the Research Page and got a page up for Ivan.  He'll be able to have his own stuff which will be good for sharing things with Storvarr.  I made us a nummy pasta dinner for the gaming group and we kinda gamed.  With over 4 weeks off we chit chatted more than gamed but it was good.  We took the first way of ghouls and are now awaiting the last wave of zombies.  We were missing paul so that was okay that we didn't get too far.  We've got all of our talk out of us so this friday should be productive.

[profile] zippydclown arrived for a visit about 10pm and we all stayed up chatting for a while.  We're heading out to breakfast in a bit with [profile] sirtighearnain and [profile] atensibilla.  Charlie has research to do after breakfast and I need to pull a few things myself to look at.  Then I will work on getting my studio up for glasswork and maybe make some beads today.  We shall see.  Well, time to get zippy out of bed.
