Weekend and stuff recap...

Things have been busy enough its hard to write consistently. Last week I thought we were in the clear for Benton being done being sick but Thursday afternoon he started to get some drippy diapers and I got called from work to pick him up on Friday AM. He had messed up his clothes a couple of times and was so tired that when I got home he slept for 4 hours. He didn't want to eat and I took him off dairy for a few days to help his tummy recover. This meant that Saturday I stayed home with him and took care of him and his icky diapers all day while mel was at the local A&S tourney. I'm very sad I missed that. There were two things that I wanted to see/do and well, I get to see it through a few photographs I've been sent. Oh, well.
The first was the presentation of the new A&S Champion's Medallion. Back when we were B&B our Champion ended up moving and lost the medallion in the move. The next champion was given my personal boar medallion that I had purchased and its been in use ever since. I had intended to make the new necklace etc last year but with the Estrella dust storm sending my pregger butt home I did not get to purchase the medallion from Master Ark.. I was able to finally remember to order the pendant and Master Ark was awesome and even engraved the back of the medallion with TIR YSGITHR A&S CHAMPION. So awesome. Very good customer service.
So, I spent friday night before the event with a sick baby working on getting the medallion put on a necklace. The original necklace was lapis and amber and I went with a similar bent.

Ivan was kind enough to present that for me in court and then since their Excellencies are awesome they did a great segue into bringing up the Boar Counter-Ermine. Ivan is the premiere of the order. HE asked him to speak on the virtues of the award and why people get it and then he asked for him to describe his Squire Mariyah and Ivan went on to speak about the same qualities were seen in her as there were in the order. So she came up and was given the scroll I was commissioned to make. I don't have the scan of it with the calligraphy that
scribe_ari did but here it is right after I finished the painting.

Its based on a page from the 1560's in an Islamic text. Its really awesome and I drew it all from scratch except for the flying pigs (those were a re-do of a previous design on Justin's Laurel scroll) and the little sleeping piggy which ari sketched for me.
So, Saturday was trying. Benton was really, really cranky and tired and wanting me to hold him a lot. I was okay with that to a point and then I was done. He went down for a really late second nap and then I woke him up for dinner which he needed but didn't want to eat and he was put right back in bed. Mel got home later than I had hoped and I was beat. We ended up watching Warehouse13 and hitting bed early. Benton woke up way early starving on Sunday AM. He did good throughout most of the day and slowly ate his pancakes at Joe's. He seemed to do okay and was feeling better, not great but better and he was improving throughout the day. He ate a good dinner and we put him to bed at a good rate. I managed to get some knitting done and get my nails done. I got a manicure which I haven't had in a long time. I also cooked my own mom's day meal but I grilled t-bones, sweet corn, sweet potatoes, peppers and made home made from scratch blueberry cobbler. So good.
Monday we got up and got dressed. I dropped Benton off and then came back home to work for a while and then
snotblossom arrived to head with us to Bertand De Lacy's funeral. He had passed away a week before and his memorial and full military honors ceremony was to be held on Monday. We picked mel up from work and then made it in good time to the church. The service was nice and the reception was fine. The photographs they had up of his life were amazing. Then we all motorcaded to the base cemetery with the Patriot Guard leading the line. Their heartfelt acts of service for our servicemen should be commended, applauded and lauded for all to know. They were professional, courteous and gave the somber event color and respect that ever person deserves. I had seen their organization in the media and seen them in other motorcades but this was so moving to me to see in person. I'm sure Bertrand would have been a little chagrined at the amount of "fuss" over him but it was awesome to see and be a part of. We will miss him but I have many moments I will carry with me for a very long time.
I worked for a few more hours and managed to get the house picked up a bit before I picked up Benton. Mel had finished up the cleaning while I was getting the boy and I grilled up some more steaks and we had a nice healthy dinner. Benton ate an entire half of a sweet potato and then ate a least of cup of lima beans. Seriously, my kid thinks they are candy. Ewwww. Oh, well, he stuffed himself on that and then we gave him some cobbler which he also enjoyed. He was so tired he was almost asleep in his high chair. Mel got him cleaned up and to bed while I made coffee for the scribes.
We had a productive night and I have some calligraphy I need to get done this weekend but that is a good thing. Its been a while since I've done some callig and I need to get my hands back to doing it more.
I had too much caffeine yesterday I think and ended up not falling full alseep to well after midnight. Oh, well. I'll be good and hit the sack early tonight. So, that is the recap. I'm going to try to get back to journaling more...I've been missing it.
