ianuk: (don't wanna)
The knee going out was indicative of my week. I'd like a refund on last week and to eject it from the timeline.

This will be whining and sorrowful I'm sorry.

Work was so many stoopid meetings that could have been an email. If people actually did their jobs, or could yanno, have more than a dot in reading comprehension that would be great. It was super frustrating and made me very angry and just annoyed.

Mel came down with "spring sleeping sickness" which was not covid or flu (we tested) but he was exhausted for Monday afternoon through Friday. So my routine was off for when he is home and when he is not and Benton was worried and then got a bit of this sickness. I'm pretty sure its allergy driven. Everything is blooming and my histamines are high but I also take 3 separate meds for allergies/asthma so I think I'm ahead of things.

Tuesday during the day I got a message from my High school friend Amy, and our mutual friend Andrea had taken a turn for the end. Her cancer had come back, she'd been silent on things since January and I'd checked her caring bridge monthly but no updates and I hadn't gotten to it this month and missed it. She was put in Hospice on Wednesday and then she passed on Friday morning. Her parents got to talk with her and say goodbye and her son did as well. Her brothers have been there the full time. I only know she passed cause Amy is on FB...the caring bridge hasn't updated about it. She was 46 and leaves behind her wife (Jane) and their son Ayden who is 12. I'm sad and mad and just damn it. Fuck Cancer seriously. I don't know if there will be a service or a place to send donations? Its the only thing I could do, I guess. I'm not sure if it will be in DC or SD or what. I just don't know.

So Tuesday through Friday AM I was worrying and sending messages of comfort but still very depressed to lose a friend. Mel was sick and I wasn't bothering him with things and I had decided on Monday that I was taking Wednesday afternoon off for my birthday. So on the day I got Benton to school and when I got home and after a meeting Mel was like " oh I was going to take you out to dinner" and I just looked at him. I'm like...wouldn't that have been a convo for earlier in the week? "Well I was sick yesterday so I forgot and I still don't feel well so we will have to do it later?" I had already done planned things since he hadn't mentioned anything other than handing me my bday present early so I could make espresso. Sighs. Well I was annoyed but at least he had thought of things just didn't say anything. I was sad too...cause his plans sounded nice.

But I worked a very stressful "half" day and took 3 hours off and went antiquing by myself. I hit up the girls estate sale and I had been watching a purse style lonaberger basket drop to 50% off, a few stamps for 3 for $5 including a fancy price tag/gift tag cutter. I then headed to the Broadway mall and found one of our salad plates and a rose embroidered lamp scarf and the 1979 Battlestar Galactica blue prints. Then I went for a bit to the 22nd street mall and found a neat concho belt and a very pretty ring dish. I had been texting with Ari and we met up at Kon Tiki for dinner and drinks. We were treated to a very drunk guy at the bar. The bartender was not amused by his antics. But we had good food and drinks. Good conversation and a balm to all of my issues. She did get me yarn (goth rainbow) and cute needle minders that are gnomes and shrooms. Plus a slanket of wool.

Thursday I was back at work and it was bonkers and stressful. But i was able to leave the boys stayed home from kung fu so I picked up pizza before I came home. Thank you Mod for making it easy to order. We had pizza and all of us were in bed early. I was just done from the week. I did manage to get the Monster hunter badge for Stardew but yeah early to bed for all of us. Friday was an off day for all of us so the boys slept in and my brain had me up at 630. So I read and finished my Two Witches and a Whiskey. I then started in on Demon Magic and a Martini which has been quite good. Everyone was slow and I had a massage and then came home to make dinner after a shopping trip. Then I made some earrings for HRH Celeste and of course didn't take pictures. I got all of my stuff packed for the event the next day. Mel had already done his earlier in the day and that was his energy for the day.

Saturday we were all tired but awake and the boys felt a lot better. Got on the road with burritos and on the I10 by 7am. I wish it had been earlier but meh. We got to site and realized we should have packed the damn cart but after a few trips we managed to get to our tables. I got myself setup but was inundated with people and I had to very kindly ask for time to set up and then I could come talk. I had started teh morning in one outfit and mel nixed it as not looking nice. This was a good plan cause I had forgotten until I was sitting at the elevation I was speaking for a candidate (head desk). I also forgot for a bit how to use the cruise control on the van as I was driving. I got setup, went to the bathroom to put my head on straight (in more ways than one). Willa came with me and at the same community center was also a rally for the local republican group. (puke). I made some very pointed comments to will about how I was worried about Jane losing first her wife and then maybe her job cause of Trump in the ear shot of the woman next to me washing her hands. She immediately left the bathroom. good riddance. They were done about an hour later so we didnt have to seem them and their nazis. Ugh. Anyhoo...I then spent time before my first meeting of the day doing calligraphy. Hugh sat next to me and borrowed stuff from my kit and drew up a scroll and started on teh painting. I got the previous three scrolls I had callig'd erased finally. The ink had finally set. This new batch I did that day I pounced and they still started to smear so I just handed them to the signet (without photos cause I'm a dumbass) with instructions to erase in a week. I do think its this version of paper is the issue and I need to pounce it before. But my callig did well. I started on a third one too but with a Laurel Meeting, and hour break, a Princess's Tea and then a Pelican meeting? I didn't get much time at my scribal desk but I did manage throughout the day to put 4-5 inches on mel's sock. So I guess I crafted. Court was long...5 peerages included two on the spots but all were deserving and I gave a very very extemporaneous speech sitting there and realizing that I was speaking for a Laurel candidate and I had forgotten with all of the things this past week. But I made people cry so i think I did good. We had 20 mins to pack up and leave once court finished but we managed, got changed into modern clothes and then drove to dinner at Cornish pasty Co. I got a 32 ounce beer and good convos with Ari, Dominique, Benton, Stephen, and Mel. We drove home and it was 10pm when we pulled in. I got my night meds and collapsed into bed.

And that is where I'm leaving it....Sunday was ok.
ianuk: (overwhelmed)
So, when I put mom's socks on at the hospital on Wednesday a few of her toes were kinda purple. I assumed it was from the fall. Its not. Its a thing called mottling which according to the first website in my google search is a "Mottling of skin before death is common and usually occurs during the final week of life, although in some cases it can occur earlier." Reading further on signs of death for cancer and she meets a lot of them if not all of them to an extent.

I spoke with the nurse this morning at her care home and its more pronounced in her feet now. So we are on a clock of a week or so. For Symmetry I would not be surprised if she dies on the 17th which was when she went into the hospital in SD a year ago. But we will take it as it comes.

I'm going to self care and see my BFF this weekend and spend time with mom and take things day by day.

This is really hard.

EDIT 120pm: Okay spent a few hours with her and got to talk with the hospice nurse. She has not quite transitioned to this point yet. But it could change. They figure a month or so? Its honestly up to mom. I still think she's going want to make it to christmas but we shall see. But right now its not this week...its still soonsih? But again we shall see.
ianuk: (wtf)
We've lost a lot of awesome people this year from Rickman and Bowie, to Shanding and Nat Cole.  We lost Prince yesterday.  I think Purple Rain or another album were the first bootlegs I ever got.  My elementary school BFF Kathy Arnold had the tapes and her brother copied things to memorex for me.  I remember buying Diamonds and Pearls for myself and finally got rid of my tapes when I moved to AZ and no longer had a tape deck.  I have memories of belly dancing to Theives in the Temple in Illinois and just in general thinking him awesome for music and expression.  My cubemate has been trying to get tickets to see him for quite some time and when I texted her she was devasted.

So, yeah, listening to Purple Rain now....will probably hit iTunes and buy some more to replace things I haven't heard in a long time.

In house news the new roof is almost done.  @lferion is supervising things while they install the new skylights (the other ones were about shot) and in general being the bestest person ever.

Mel's mom sent him his handwoven, by her, leg wraps. They are a modified goose eye pattern.

House Improvements Outside 2016

REalized last night that I want the porch inside ceilings finished before we paint them.  So I suggested to mel that we get bead board and put that up. I think it will look nice.

Things are settling enough on the house that I was able to put some things away in the studio.  This is good. Which means maybe when I get back from KWHSS I'll be having some mojo back.

I desperately need it.
ianuk: (here's looking at you)
Very odd week. I stayed up too late, painted too much and in general didn’t get a lot done except scroll work. The housework went by the wayside and things just tumbled down into blech. By Friday I was DONE. I picked up Benton and he had just pooped his pants. I decided that I would not get mad. He’s still figuring that out. The school folks helped get him cleaned up and we then went to get coffee and do target shopping. He was hungry and tired and we got new shoes, new clothes and some household essentials. Since we picked up his potty seat for the toilet he’s complained it wasn’t a Lightening McQueen one from Cars, he had picked out the Thomas the Train one…so I relented and got him the Cars one. I was desperate at this point. It was nice to go out to coffee with him and he looked quite debonair at Starbucks. Look at him holding his apple aloft!
Untitled

We then headed from Target to pick up dinner at Brushfire BBQ where Benton made our order. He got to choose our meat choices and our veggies. We then went home to eat them. Mel was nice enough to clean the poopy pants for me and we had a really nice family dinner. Benton was beat by the time it was bedtime and that was good. Saturday morning he woke up early and got mel out of bed. Which was okay, since we needed to get up and get things going. Mel went to the apple store to pick up a new phone since his got peed on by Obsidian on Thursday night Friday morning. I had put it in a bag of rice to desiccate and it worked but it was already unreliable. We managed to get Mel booked on a flight to see his parents for Monday and he needed a phone. I got the house picked up a bit and then got ready for the girls to arrive for scribble stuff. Icka and Wander arrived and we all got down to business. I finished up the final white work and planned out my text spacing before they left.
The Highlight of the day was that I had been very forceful with Benton that he would not get pants until he pooped in the potty. My kid hates to be anywhere close to naked. He ran around in his Batman long sleeved shirt and underoos for most of the day until he gave Mel a bit of trouble and then he was naked from the waist down. But our persistence finally paid off and he ran to the potty and went! Seriously, that poop was massive! Benton was so excited to do it and have it go well and he got his rewards. Here he is all decked out in his TMNT undies, TMNT sunglasses and his new skylander!

We had Wander for dinner and then I put Demolition Man in the xbox and cranked out the calligraphy on the County. It turned out really nice. We stayed up watching some stuff on Youtube and then headed to bed.
Sunday was busy with housework and grocery shopping. Benton was quite the character all day. He did good with the potty but was really tired and just pushing all of the buttons which was driving us crazy. The girls were working on their scroll and I cut holes (slits) in mine for the future pendant seals. It was crazy to do that. Everyone left about dinner time and Benton finally went to bed exhausted. Just like us. I sat and knit while watching some episodes of Elementary that I’ve saved up on the DVR. Mel played with his new phone and then packed for his trip to WA. We got to bed a bit late but I got coffee on for the morning etc.
We got up on Monday and started getting ready for mel to leave and Mel’s mom called to say that his dad had passed. Needless to say this was not what we expected. It was bittersweet and probably better in the long run but it definitely put a damper on the day. I did things in a daze and managed to get off of work early and have a good chat with Benton about his grandpa. What was awesome was that he understood that Grandpa is gone and his memories are good of him and he talked non-stop about the grapes Grandpa Mel was giving him. We played a few word games on my iPad.
Then things got crazy. In a good way. Asteria was giving away her couch and I liked it and needed it moved. Thyra was awesome and got a crew of folks to move it and it arrived with some old and dear friends and we spent time cleaning it up and moving the old couch. Benton was all about showing off his 3-ness and was cute and annoying at the same time. Scribble folks were also arriving early and Icka was awesome with the cleaning up help and watching Benton a bit. Got the boy to bed, finally got my dinner (and fed Icka and Wander too!) Bridget arrived and I had been saving her the last piece of bread pudding for her trials of the last week and we all sat down to work. I got the pendant seal parchment set and then veg’d. I was so tired and almost fell asleep on the couch. It was nice though and having folks over and relaxing and working was great.

Things have been busy enough its hard to write consistently. Last week I thought we were in the clear for Benton being done being sick but Thursday afternoon he started to get some drippy diapers and I got called from work to pick him up on Friday AM. He had messed up his clothes a couple of times and was so tired that when I got home he slept for 4 hours. He didn't want to eat and I took him off dairy for a few days to help his tummy recover. This meant that Saturday I stayed home with him and took care of him and his icky diapers all day while mel was at the local A&S tourney. I'm very sad I missed that. There were two things that I wanted to see/do and well, I get to see it through a few photographs I've been sent. Oh, well.
Cut for length and pictures )
ianuk: (scribal)
Well, monday I thought was going to be a long dragging day due to me not getting enough sleep but it went by relatively quickly and I ended up on a pretty high energy note. I was not lulled into a false sense of security due to that though. I went home, put my feet up and snuggled with a cat.

Now one funny thing about yesterday was that I finally got my ergo eval I first put in for in August. It seems that somehow, someone switched my information with that for a jennifer at McMurdo Station. LOL. So I got a new loaner keyboard, mouse and this neato rolly foot rest that I can put my feet "up" which is nice on the pregnant legs. I will probably have them order me this keyboard since its working well minus a sticky space bar. My hands feel better though.

Mel made dinner while I rested and then we ate and snuggled up on the floor to watch a new to us episode of NCIS. BTW, Any NCIS afficiandos out there? Mel and I are trying to figure out what happened to Gibb's girl friend the army gal? We know she's around when Jenny is around as director but since we aren't caught up on the Vance years I'm not sure if she sticks around or in NCIS fashion is killed off.

Then I packed up my scribble stuff. Well, I dusted it off its been so unused of late and was the last to arrive. Full southern scribble with all of us working is a good sight. We got scrolls figured out for Estrella I have calligraphy to do on 3-4 of them. I hyper focused a bit and my hands hurt by the end but I finished one of two languishing scrolls and I think I will setup the scribal stuff in the studio to work through the back log. Go me. We were in perfect Southern Scribble form though...equal parts smack, advice, good cheer and commentary along with ribald jokes. LOL.

Got home and mel was working on socks for Craven and I hit the showers and then we headed to bed. I started book #2 of the year and was quickly sucked in and tired. I fell asleep about 11ish and I slept all through the night minus one trip to the bathroom. I call that win! Course we slept through the alarms and got going late...especially me since I fell back asleep until mel was heading to work. Oops. But that was okay. I've not felt this rested and awake in quite a while.

Also just finished A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court...this book is nothing like the movies and is true satire. Funny, sad, uplifting and horrifying. I do recommend listening to it versus reading...especially the guy who reads it for the Craftlit podcast. He's awesome.

So, started today good. My mom emailed me to tell me my uncle Tom died. Here is his obit.

I remember being at their farm for lots of 4th of July's and that was where I tried the "homemade soda" which wasn't soda. Oops. Lots of good memories and he was a great guy. Not sure what was medically wrong since he was not that old but was in a nursing facility.

So, things are looking up for me physically and I just need to work and then try the gym tonight. Nothing big...some good full body stuff and treadmill time is really what I'm looking for and I'll hit other stuff on Thursday.
ianuk: (Default)
Well, my hands hurt from all of the knitting and painting. My arms are killing me from my workout on friday but now that I've been up its just mostly the triceps. I'm okay with that. I'm also glad my stretching in the shower last night got the kinks out of my core. I'm looking forward to what will be coming up today...not sure if I repeat what I did or move on to the next stuff. All good.

In sad news, I just got the alumni weekly newsletter and found that my dorm "mom" Wanda passed away. I'm cutting and pasting the article.

Former Palmerton housemother passes away at age 72. Wanda Clemmons, 72, of Rapid City passed away this week at her home in Rapid City. Wanda was born in Denver, CO and she worked at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology for 11 years, retiring in 1998. She was the last person to serve as a “housemother” at Mines from 1987 to 1998 as the “housemother” in Palmerton Hall. She oversaw the change in Palmerton Hall from an all male residence hall to a coeducational facility. Affectionately known to resident students as “Ma” Clemmons, she provided a homelike atmosphere and an empathetic ear to over 2000 students during her tenure helping them to cope with the stress of college life and living away from home. She is survived by three sons, two daughters, two brothers, two sisters, 10 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2-4PM on Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City. Services will be at 10AM on Monday, February 22 at the First Evangelical Free Church (1124 Kansas City Street) in Rapid City. On behalf of the many alumni whose lives she helped while they were students, we offer condolences to the family. For a complete memorial and guest book, please visit www.kirkfuneralhome.com.

Ma was absolutely awesome. She made us cookies, kept our guns locked up for us, was always open for a chat, treated us like adults and was just all in all the best lady to watch over us ever. If I was in rapid I'd be going to the funeral without a question. What a lady.

Well, I'm at the new office since I have a meeting at 9am. I also have to get stuff over to the lab for testing which is on this side of the plant. All good. Its chilly over hear today though. We had a roof leak and they are moving tiles all over and placing buckets. Funny considering the engineering that went into this building. Anyhoo...time to get cracking on the paperwork.

I think things are hitting home now. I was chatting with a coworker the little bit I was in work an death has been prevalent of late. O started thinking about Tony who passed away I think 6 years ago now and it's still kinda raw. He was like yehudah's full of life and not done working and was just gone one day at 32. I'm exhausted and I think u was up probably 20+ hours yesterday. When I got up I felt like I was hungover which it's not. Just too much in too little time. Family dinner was good last night and that made things better.

I'm getting my toes done and then will head over to grandmas for much needed people time. Then I think home to nap and wash fabric. It's just good to be home.

Last night was a very nice night of good friends, good movie, good beer and good conversation...
knowing is half the battle or A.I Team Cobra )

Woke up very late this morning and continued to stay in bed reading. Finally getting up for coffee and to finish my book and we got a phone call.

Master Yehudah had passed away. The Aten sun shines just a bit dimmer with his passing and I'm not even sure how to take it at this point...even a few hours after being told. I know he wouldn't want us all burbling and weepy but its hard to not be. The shock of it all. And I can't recall the last time I saw him and that bugs me to no end...I've got other memories that are filtering in...lots of them...but not the last time. Sighs. Kinda puts a damper on all things this weekend and I'm at a loss at what I should be doing. Sighs.
ianuk: (caw!)
Friday was good. Work was fulfilling and I left early. I got my toes done, groceries bought, catfood/litter bought, even through a thunderstorm. Got home and started cleaning and organizing stuff for saturday's trip. Then after a rest we headed to Cos and Ellie's going away party. We were the first non family to arrive and it was nice to sit and chat. Had a few guiness which mixed way to nicely with the singular...I was very sleepy and we were home by 1030pm. Got up the next day and got the truck packed, breakfast ate in good time for folks heading to ME Feast. The drive was good. We made good time, even with pregnant potty breaks. Got to site just after mel and that was good. I did not dance as much as I should have. There was way to much skin showing on folks that shouldn't be showing that much skin..to steal a quote "ME does not mean HOOCHIE!" Got done and we then travelled to Papago Brewery with a small crewe. It was a very good time, good beer and conversation and a very lickable..ahem likeable waiter. Got on the road with some thermos coffee and minus a crazy truck driver in Tucson things went well. I got home and was in bed about 11am.

Sunday I got up early and biked a bad ride. My legs and body were just too tired to push hard, especially after a week of suck. Eh. Had joe's and then got home and went shopping very quickly and started on the final cleaning. It went well and I was done 2 hours before the party. I got a shower and was reading a book when raylee and Candance showed up early. They helped with the chopping of veggies and it was good. Everyone was very ontime and we had nummy food and fun. Poor [livejournal.com profile] archer64 got assaulted by estrogen but I think he took it well and he left some beer. Though he really should have tried the food. I'll have photos up sometime today I hope. Meg made out like a bandit and cora is gonna be a very cute dressed baby. All good. Everyone left after a bit of clean up about 530 and I relaxed the rest of the evening. Mel got home about 1215. I snuggled back to bed when he got into the shower and slept wonderfully. We awoke with the alarm and snuggled for an extra one. Mel was smart and didn't bike in today but we had a leisurely discussion while getting lunches packed up and coffee. The coffee tower was still piping hot.

Got breakfast in the cafe today since I was a dork and forgot to grab breakfast. Obsidian is now eating almost all of her food and butterfly is leaving it sit. I think they've had a mild tummy uck after going to the vet and they have also been eating lots of bugs as evidenced by the roaches I keep finding disemboweled in the hall. If it keeps up for much longer then I will see the vet but it looks like the sisters are both recovering well. Should be a good day.

EDIT FOR FRIDAY One thing I did forget to mention is that my Uncle Charlie passed away on Friday. The funeral is today in St. Louis. Mom was conveying messages through Rob on IM. Looks like the flowers were a hassle but things were going okay. Gonna miss charlie and his sarcasim...such a funny guy on a weird level.

Obituary )

He hadn't been doing too good in recent years but he had a full life and now he joins my aunt who I'm sure will be happy to see him. My cousin beverly wondered if I wanted my aunt's 2 sewing machines and I said YES!!! I know she bought good ones. Mom's gonna drop ship them to me. Just wish I was there but we couldn't quite swing things due to the shower yesterday and other stuff...mom understood and was okay about that.
