ianuk: (wtf)
Star Wars got us thinking and then Mel brought up this article and huh...

Okay 10 days and no post...sorry about that but I was tired from Con, had a stressful 3 day workweek and then lots of ennui.like so much ennui. So the con was really good. It was not as big as the con in 2019 which was almost too much. Mel was happy to have a very quiet house to himself. We had a wonderful time in the newly remodeled Sheraton hotel. Everything is all redone and modern and the bar...well its not as cozy as it was but its more what is the vogue now. The update to the restaurant now has a large curved bar that you can sit on the edge of the outdoors which was wonderful. They had full security with metal detectors. Ari and I luckily got clear backpacks from the con for a free gift for buying merch and that was awesome to have and carry around and made going through security easily.

Anyhoo...didn't hit any panels, only hit the lego room with Benton once and hit the burly show. So not as jam packed as usual but that was okay. Benton is big enough now to get himself back to the hotel and hang out when he gets overstimmed. So that was okay. We bought a lot of things including new light sabers, art, books, some comics and fun things.

We got to hang with folks and introduce folks to some local haunts (Cornish Pasty Company). Hung out with Talon from Nightwolf and his lady and we got to enjoy the pool on Sunday. We got home mid-morning on Monday and it was a very nice trip. I had lunch and then crashed for like 3 hours.

Highlights were meeting Patrick Wahlburton and Felicia Day (again). She remembered singing a baby (Benton) and we had a good chat. Ran into Doug Jones checking out and he was absolutely amazing.

The rest of the week work where most people were off for the week. And things were just way too busy and just hard all around. Our schedule is messed up, charging is messed up and it just a mess. I just didn't feel like doing anything.

Mom's pain has increased and there was drama with her pain meds and the oncologist and everything. We see a radiologist this week to hopefully get some treatment of her hip to help with that pain. The cancer is everywhere...so bone pain isn't uncommon but mom doesn't' talk about things to anyone and only complained to me about the pain weeks later. Her brain resets every 10 minutes which also doesn't help. Sighs.

On the Mel front his pain is less....so they are going to do another contrast MRI to see if he's dealing with the infection on his own. None of the docs have seen that before. So when we thought they wanted the knife biospy and the picc line and now we wait and see. His MRI is tomorrow so hopefully we see what is up. I'm happy he's feeling better but this is still just fucking weird.

So, the enuii has just made me tired. I only want to sleep. Yes things are stressful but not any more than they had been. Was talking with Willa and well, my steroid shot is probably messing with my brain meds. Looking at the steroid, my asthma steroid and my anxiety meds its all for the fat around my middle increasing. The shot can lower my will power and make food taste better. Which is just fucking lovely. I'm at 230 pounds right now when a year ago and less stress and meds I was 222 which was the highest I'd ever been at that point in time. I meet with my doc next week and I will see what I can do. i'm trying to track my meals again, watch my carbs and not drink so much. It has been bad on the booze but man I want a vice that isn't hard on my middle. Trying to get to the gym too but again. ennui. The steroid shot should wear off in a few weeks but I have to be mindful. I'm trying to get myself back into the swing of projects. I have a laurel scroll to do for my apprentice and that is going to be a project I need to start drawing. Its going in a direction I wasn't expecting but that is okay. A challenge is good. But I need my brain and body to cooperate. I would also like the universe to stop testing my resolve. Seriously.

i finished Book 21 for the year which was You're Never Weird on the Internet by Felicia Day. She signed it for me at the con. I'm now reading an ebook of the The Night Watch Collection which is the 3 books by Sergei Lukyanenko. Its a Good versus Bad balance kind of book set in Russia. Very philosophical take on good and evil and how they have to balance each other by truce and treachery. I'm 2/3 of the way through the first book which is Night Watch. I'm liking it and its heavy on the thinking about the philosophy. Maybe not what I should be reading right now but I did pick up some Patricia Briggs books in her Mercy Thompson series to get things on a different note. But once I finish the ebook that will be books 22, 23 and 24 for the year. I'm will probably meet my goal for 50 per this year. I hope.

This got long...but I've been writing it over two days in between things.

I posted to twitter about my busy day and most of it was work, housework, being mom, cooking and in general not trying to leave my house a disaster when I get home from work. I learned this when I was nursing that if I didn't start the bottle cleaning when I got home it was never done and I tried to do that last night by getting dishes started while I made dinner and helped Ben with homework, picked up my stuff from the front room (as I could), moved mel's stuff to his side of the bed and got laundry going as well as washing things I just made for the ladies born last month.

I then sat down and dinked around on my phone for probably 45mins versus knitting while watching tv and then finally did knit and watch the mid-season premier of AOS. Wow, that was a good episode. I really wish we could get Tony Stark to have a talk with Coulson on what sentience is and how you determine it even if it was created by a creepy as magical book. But enough of that...I'm just enjoying AOS and that is good.

So I adulted but I did get some knitting in. Hopefully I'll be motivated to finish the cleaning of the studio on Thursday so I can be sewing on the weekend or at least mending and then cutting out crown clothes.

Non-spoilery review first and then I'll put the spoilers behind a cut in another post.

NO SPOILERS HERE
So this was paced way better than Age of Ultron.  It was also a lot more cohesive which was needed after the choppiness we saw in Ultron. The new characters of Black Panther and Spiderman were well incorporated into the story telling. They were not just slapdashed into the universe, there was purpose there.  This Spiderman truly envelopes being a teenager without being whiney. He's witty and young and funny and kicks ass.  Black Panther is driven and destructive and you truly understand his motiviatons and how he will mesh within the MCU.

The plot does take a while but I caught a subtley early on that really built for why Cap and Tony are at odds.  Though as Tony often does he acts before realizing the consequences which honestly is the main theme of this movie this time he acts, realizes but does not trust and verify.  Cap is wary to trust things and needs to verify what is going on.  I think the whole issue of  Hyrda being in Shield has made him wary of not looking for hidden things and agendas. Though he has his own agenda in a way which shows how much he doesn't want to loose his friendship and family of the Avengers and tries his hardest to not do that.

I think this really is in the top 3-4 of the movies. I'm not thinking its the best but maybe futher watching of it will make it closer to 2 versu 4 in my book.

It was a wild and intriguing ride and it will hit you in the feels.  There is comedy when there needs to be, there is action and fight sequences that are amazing and show off most of the abilities and then some, of all combatants.

All of last week I've had a linger...not sure...cold, not really just tired and had a bit of a sore throat off and on and some snuffles.  I had hoped to kick it this weekend....and that doesn't seem to work I guess. I'm to the point were I'm going to stop taking it "easy" and just hit the gym etc.

Friday night we were all tired.  I hit bed at 930 and slept really well. I was still pretty groggy when I awoke on Saturday and slowly got ready for the tournament. Once drugs and coffee kicked in I did okay. Benton was awesome at the event and listened well and we hit the library to get some books and just in general had a good time.  Ivan was Sir Sable and everyone was suprised he could be an asshole.  Honestly, people don't liv with him. He's a jerk a lot of the time. He's just sublte about it.  Will was the rapier sable and Ceyln was the youth sable so we changed the household name to Rottenheim cause yes, we were rotten. LOL.    Got home after hitting up Frost for gelato and relaxed into the evening.  I made lamb chops, edamame and couscous with a really nice dill yogurt sauce.  I've never cooked lamb but I hit it with a bit of garlic and cooked it to medium rare.  So tasty.  Benton loved it. Mel was exstatic about it and just purred with happiness about it. I'll have to make it that way again.  We are saving the bones to make stock but are currently stuck on what you use lamb stock for....ideas?

My goals for the weekend were to get laundry done, work on my projects and try to get better.  I did pretty good with that though I didn't get my studio any better but I put more stuff away and figured out how to get Ben to clean his room with a timing game and the Visual Timer.  He now understands that in small increments (10 mins each) we set up to do tasks in the 10 min section. It worked really well and we even got his laundry put away nicely.

My goals this week are to do a bunch of calligraphy and finish mel's sock. I got through the heel and gusset yesterday and now am in the foot.  I also spent too much time play Free Flow but I'm in the way higher levels having fun.  We also finished up watchign Jonny Quest Season 1 (1964) and still love it.  We also found that Kim Possible is on youtube boot legged but I did order the Season 1 and 2.  We will now be going through the Batman Animated Series with Ben.  Then maybe on to Justice League and Teen Titans.

Mel did get the bottle openers out to people and we got text messages of people hanging them up and putting them right to use.  Its awesome. Plus that is projects out of his shop.  He made Ben's bed this past weekend for camping and he needs to finish it this week.

I have to say the weather last night was crazy.  The airport had 47 mph winds. Oof.  The rain was a lot though the gauges only stated 1/3 of an inch. Weird. it sounded like a lot more.

Work this week is about finishing things up and kicking ass at the gym.
