Managed to get some of my to do list one. It was over ambitious as usual but I wasn't sure how long things with the quilt were going to take, what my motivation was going to be but I wrote things down and if I get time this week to check more things off that list than fine.

Friday I worked, took a lyft to pick up the car from the shop, and then enjoyed a beer while spinning and hanging out with Benton. He had had a fun water day at Camp. Mel had gone to see wander and get lumber for the ramp he and Jeff will be building. It was hot though and both Benton and I just didn't want to go anywhere or have the soup mel made...it was too hot. So I made us grilled cheese. (Mine was dairy free). It was comforting and tasty. Saturday we had workmen arrive at 6am (it was going to 108) and they continued to work on the trenching in the front yard and getting rebar ready. Mel had left at 8am to the event up in Thatcher for the Incipient Shire of Vallis Aeris's first event. I got working in the studio about 11am. Benton was going to a sleep over so I dropped him off about 1pm and then headed to the quilt shop (Quilter's Market) since it was just on the way home. I needed new small snip scissors since my gingher snips are too bulky to snip quilt seams. I found a cute pair of ghost scissors and a couple of patterns and a ruler I just had to have.

I got home, finished up putting a thick edge on the quilt block and then spaced out the memoriam calligraphy. I then got out my embroidery kit and was super surprised to find my embroidery scissors which I didn't remember owning in the kit...so I didn't need new scissors after all and the universe was being funny. The embroidery took forever cause I did about half and hated it cuase I used two strands and it was fuzzy. So I cut that off and then did it with 1 strand and it came out nicely...not perfect but nicely. Mel got home while I was embroidering and watching TV. He was hot and tired and hungry so I got us an order from Graze which included a dairy free vanilla shake for me! OMG!! Woot!

I then got the quilt block placed on the back of the quilt while Mel and I watched a movie. I've been on an archeology/adventure kick for things since I watched all of the Indiana Jones movies (except the new one), National Treasure 1 and 2. We finished up with Jungle Cruise which Mel had not seen yet and he loved the fun romp it is. Poor Willow was very confused at why Benton was not home and in his room in his bed. I let her in his room to sulk.

Sunday I woke up later than I planned but got going and dressed in my greek mumu for virtual classes for the Atlantian University. I'm 3 classes from getting my Bachelor's degree there which is kind of cool. that means I've taken 26 classes over the last few years. I'm hoping to teach this fall at the virtual one. Me and the SIL had a side discussion on one of the classes and I had more questions about that class than answers so I think I will teach the portion of it I do know (Northern European Beads). Becca encouraged me to teach it. [personal profile] danabren may know the lady that did a large overview on beads but didn't have it very organized. Though I did get pointed to a resource I hadn't seen which is Medieval Beads which is quite fun. Things to peruse there.

Once I was done with classes I changed into modern clothes and was supposed to take Benton shopping for shorts and he didn't want to go anywhere. So I decided I would hit Hellmart without him. I detest Hellmart but he's growing and I needed basic shorts that he will trash this summer and then we will need new for school again. I also got some other necessities and managed to find dinner (beer brats) cause it was damn hot and I haven't used my grill in a while. It was tasty with a spinach salad and some potato salad I wasn't too allergic to (mustard seed). Then I spent the evening watching TV with Mel and spinning. I'm about 1 ounce away from finishing my silk merino I started December. Its laceweight so its taking me sometime but I got into the rhythm. Hoping to finish that this week so I can get to not so thin things. I have plenty of stash to spin thru.

On the book front I'm almost done with Sir Patrick and will be finishing that tonight before I sit down to put text on my last scroll commission I had still open. I have scroll assignments for some back logs but this was a commission that has been too long over due. It will get delivered at Fabric War and I need to find the signatures I need for it as well. But that is easy. I can make it happen tonight.

Pick of the block in situ and not: block and on quilt

Also, thanks to blossom we have the best photo of Ivan ever...there was a mobile home fire just outside the park wall and it had ammo exploding too...good times.
Ivan Spinning while the World Burns
ianuk: (scribal)
Well, I've been MIA from posting since I've had a scribal project in big works and then I had an allergy flair that laid me out, Benton got sent to DC for school trip and work was even more special two weeks in a row.

So, last I updated Benton and I were together for the week with Mel on travel. He and I survived and did good. Very little yelling and he got video game time while I did painting in the evenings. Friday (12th) had Mel home and I headed to the happy hour for Frank's send off to another program. I dressed up and put make up on and that was nice. Got to catch up with a lot of folks who had moved programs and it was nice. I was able to treat one of my engineers to drinks for a thank you and get hugs from folks I hadn't seen in a while. Sat we grabbed Ari and headed up to Phx for Cerridwen and Val's wedding. It was a lovely day, perfect weather, strong drinks, good food, party games (I still rock at corn hole). We headed home happy and satiated and Benton got a slew of kids prizes for games and things he had played. I also got to knit a bit and reconnect with knitting Cerridwen cause worlds collide and friends are friends and you didn't realize it.

Sunday I worked on the scroll and Po came over for faces and kibitzing while I got the text finally settled. I basically made it sound like a medieval recipe to make a laurel and it went like this:

To Make a Laurel (As Written)
Take a thousand words or more & sound hem forthe and drawe Þe Nobles and Crowns togidre unto a fayre procession.

If Þou wilt, lete hem be led by a fayre goode cooke dressyt yn fine raiment & high upon her hede the grandest hattuz fer all to knowe.

Bring forthe all good grene Laurels and gather togidre and caste hereto norot to fewe, ne noȝt to many the fine vestments to fit as to that noble order henceforthe, and add to writ all rank, privilege, and rights togidre fore all tyme.

And thus, we serue it forthe this Saint Agnes Day, Anno Domini MMXXIV in Anno Societatis LVIII to proclaim Magdalen Venturosa as a Companion of the Order of the Laurel. Set by Our hands hereto and hereafter.

Kona Cyng, Aesa Cwēn

Took some wrangling to get all of the correct things in but since she is already a Pelican I didn't need to put in a patent again which would have made things awkward. I rather liked it. Plus her Hubby was doing a Chaucer piece in full old English to open her ceremony. So he read the scroll.

Anyhoo...with a few more hours painting it was done and just needed calligrapy. Work that week was nuts. I was super tired and trying to get things done was hard. Tuesday was my birthday and it was very meh. I dressed nicely since I had to be in work that day but the plan was pretty meh. Nothing special. I did bring in donuts. Mel and Benton had kung fu and fighter practice. My day shifted drastically when we got evacuated from our building and not with the fire alarm. We didn't know what was up but security had us move north of the road loop and instead of hanging at the covered area near the bus stop we headed to one of the large cafeterias to wait. We weren't sure what was going on and they wouldn't let us go south to our cars so we waited. A few hours later we got sent back to work since the suspicious package had been dealt with. Yeah they had evacuated a blast radius. But it was dealt with and we were okay. It was just a bit nerve wracking. But by the time we got back to our desks at 2pm we were all just cranky. evac news

I left work and came home and sat on my phone playing games until it was time to get Benton. I should have cooked but we picked up Canes which was not what I wanted so it tasted meh to me. But I managed to get the practice on the scroll text using a crap chisel pen and a legal pad. It had been almost 2.5 years since I had done any calligraphy so I had to practice a few times. The early gothic I used to do has not changed into a fine batarde so that was a surprise. Mel got home very late and I was cranky...he had gotten me flower (tulips and other things for my birthday which was nice but the cats kept trying to eat them). It wasn't a great birthday and just plain weird.

Anyhoo, work was nuts the next day too but I got home and did a trial run on a piece of tracing paper to the tracery of the scroll setup. I did one half and then went down a nib size and that dialed in the text for how I needed to do it for the real scroll. I made very large G&T and got at it. I'm very pleased with the result and I only made two typos. One I forgot a word and I glossed that in later and I missed a letter in her name and had to scrape and fix it. but overall it was done. Then I had to draw in the bumpers and the fancy initals I had left off. Thursday i painted that all in and then started in on the gloss. A gloss is
where a text had extra notes or translations or errors fixed later in the margins. I took feedback from friends, associates and KW peeps to add into the gloss. I used a drafting nib to write it in my own handwriting/printing. It fun and I then put spiders in the painting and elsewhere in the text areas. They are her heraldry and it was fun to hide them.

I had Friday (19) off so I ran to michaels to get foam core and made the enclosure. its been a while since I had done that but it turned out nice. I then went and helped Bridget get a battery in her car. Kia designed things dumb and I don't have a 6 inch extension for my craftsman set so I had to remove the air filter and have her hold the cowl back for me to get the dumb battery bracket undone but we got it done in an hour even with the drive to and from the autoparts store. Got home in time to pick up Benton and get his ID card and then got a massage and home to a grumpy husband. Who thought we had to be someplace at 6pm and I got home at 630 and I'm like my dude, its always a 90 minute appt and the thing doesn't start until 7pm. He chilled after that. We headed to Thyra's for Magdalen's vigil and it was old home week. Tati and Mingo arrived from Meridies, Ann and Tonius came in from Midrealm. Bridget came since her car was working and brought Maddie who is 24 OMG. Benton played with the mini aussie puppy and ate a lot of the food...which was tasty what I could eat. I mostly drank the cocoa puffs beer from Dom and chatted with people. We got home about 1045pm and we all crashed.

Saturday was Meet the Masters and Mel had packed up a bunch of weaving things for him and Floki and I packed up my scribal stuff and when we were packing Benton started throwing up. And was not stopping. I had the scroll to deliver, We were both supposed to speak to Magdalen and yeah. We made teh decision for Mel to stay how with the kiddo and the puke. I drove across town to the event. hiked my stuff in after getting the scroll signed and setup everything just before court. I sat at the back of court with Ari and Bridget and the crew gathered for the Laureling. I did not know that Magdalen was going to sing her way in for presenting the boar's head . She had the Whiskey Bards (tucson local ones). It was quite the affair. I was to speak as teh royal peer for Ivan and I and I guess I did okay cause everyone said I was inspiring. oof. But from a Royal peer you need those who make the ambience, who culture the experience of the SCA, who wear those hats you see in painting and go WTF is that?! That is Magdalen. There was an audible gasp for the scroll which is always the best part(tm) and everyone was amazed at the gloss.

You can see the scroll progress picts here.

I got the scroll for display during the day and I set up my scribes desk and callig'd 3 scrolls while chatting with Po and Ari and Dominique. Dom was across the walkway brewing beer and chatting with us too. We had a lot of school kids come and chat with us and I did a quick tour of the inside folks. Afternoon court was good and we had packed up beforehand so it was easy to go home. I had been checking up on Benton and Mel and once he stopped puking 930am...he slept until 2pm and then was pretty good.

I was hot and tired since it was low 90s and slightly windy that day. I got a shower and texted Ari and we had family dinner out for Sushi. (benton had good noodles and broth). It was nice and quiet and just the family with Dominique since she was staying with us. It was nice to chat and talk and then go home to rest. I was weary.

We slept in a bit and Sunday was a lasy day but I went and got things for Benton's trip and got my toes done. I was feeling odd though when I got home. And I will talk more about that in the next post.

I'm still reading "Making it So" #14 of the year.

The end of the week before the war was busy with work and projects and things. Mel was teaching locally and in Phoenix for some kung fu stuff. We started in on project with the trailer on Saturday morning and it was clear we were in over our heads. We had to take everything out of the trailer that was bolted in cause the wiring ran behind things. I called in Work Bob and that was perfect. I'm glad I had bought the extra long cable (29 feet) and the solder splices etc. It was a good plan. It still got some weirness on the wheel hubs so we may have to rewire those but honestly, we know how to get to it and its take one small panel off. We with Bob's help we got that and the water proofing done (flex seal is gold...seriously awesome). I got the dress done and spent Sunday afternoon with errands and knitting on Justin's mitts. I got them done minus the weaving in ends by bedtime. that was 6 inches of knitting and a thumb. So all good. Monday was everything took too long but I managed everything else. We were done and loaded and packed by 9pm. Everything minus toiletries. That is really good.

Got up at 6am, got boy up, got the van hooked up to the trailer and we left at 715am. Got to site just a bit after 930. I took a prescription ibuprofen and got the map rejiggered around the water path in camp. Mel got there and we started getting our plan of attack while other folks showed. We had a very small crew of Me, Mel, Benton, Ari, Dominique, her hubby Steven. We were later joined by Monique, Tym and Poe. The ground there is hard AF. I luckily can switch hit on pounding hammers and I'm glad I bought a new 3lb long handled sledge but we had to pull out the 6lb sledge to help some things. Luckily we all talk, we've set this up before...things were a bit jumbled in the trailer which helped us not at all but we got it going. We were so tired when we completed and when folks just crashed after 830pm. Wednesday we got the flair up and and other things and then Ari and tooled around merchants and in general we all relaxed. I really don't remember what else we did but we got the camp settled, hung out with folks chatted with more folks, had mead, drank beer (homebrew) and in general relaxed with folks. This was the first war we really let Benton "off leash" to do his own thing. He helped at water bearing and at youth corner and with merchants etc. He made boffers and sold some and just had a good time. He did not hit the archery range cause it was windy and cold. I don't blame him. Everyone kept telling Mel and I how awesome he was and how helpful he was with waterbearing and youth corner so yanno...we have a good kiddo.

I did some shopping getting some roman style jewelry from Mistress Fiona. I got a new hood from Mistress Amy Marie and a new laurel medallion from Duke Arthur. Bought benton a few things like a new mug and a fox tail. I also got a new bowl from Cactus Fire pottery.

They had a demo area setup in the town square adn I had no idea that was happening (grumble grumble social media only on FB grumble grumble) but I did talk with Baron Diego doing blacksmithing, with Lord Zagan for brewers, and the Outlands folks with their own period bead furnace. I made a bead. It got stuck and split but I will glue it back together. The glass is what I need to buy...its different COE/Melt temp than our modern glass (duh) and yeah I so want to make a portable one now again. Hopefully sometime this fall. But it was a good time all around. I did a bit of knitting. I marshalled, Mel took jackie as a Squire (I still need to loade that to YT)

My ankle was not happy with all of the setup and teardown and walking and standing. Nope.

Grand Court was fun and pretty. We had to wait for almost the closing of court for the surprise offer for Magdalen for laurel. They just posted to YT the whole of court so hopefully it made it in since the light was low. To say she was gobsmacked is an under statement. She was heralding the court and her hubby (part of teh Whiskey Bards) came running in as they were closing down court to bring up a need....it was perfect. We got back to camp prepared to get itno food prep to find that Lady Fiona had done all of it. We were amazed. (court was at 6pm our dinner time so yeah). We are all now going to get her a patterned up for clothes to teach her to sew and make her clothes and trim as a thank you. We need to schedule our sewing nights.

So after dinner I was handling mead and the fire cause the Duke was doing dishes. TRM arrive and we call everyone to the fire. Well, HRM bestowed upon me her Queen's Grace. I was gobsmacked. I'm graceful by title only...I'm clutzy, I'm brash, I speak my mind and not always with sweetness and light. But I've inspired HRM Aesa and is the oldest Kingdom Award. We filled lots of mugs that night and had a nice time by the fire. Sunday was going to be early and tear down day for us.

Tear down went pretty smoothly but boy was I so tired by the time we finished. The house hold stuff went well and we are a good team to walk through and do things. Benton and I got home before Mel since he dropped the trailer off at Ed's. Luckily Chris was home for me to get my house keys since he watched the cats. I managed to get the van unloaded mostly before Mel got home. Benton was....off...realized later he had not taken his meds and was coming down from sugar (we may have ate a bag of TJ's scandanavian sour swimmers on the way home). But we got it unloaded, coolers emptied and the things out of our trailer we needed and our trailer put away by 430 or so? I made the decision to get burgers from Graze and that was perfect. Benton got a shower and a bath and was in bed early. I was enjoying kitten time though she's more small cat now. All good she's almost 10 months and is filling out her face since her spay.

So that was war...this week has been hella long with work adn I didn't really take Monday off. We haven't finished putting war away yet but hope to get it done tonight and tomorrow.

I did one thing that is making me happy which is I joined the work gym on Thursday. I'm going to try to be at work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday so I can weight train on Tue/Thursday myself and then take the 5pm yoga class on Wednesday and still hit knit night. Its ambitious but I used to be able to do this. Its gonna be hard on Benton a bit cuase I will need to drop him off early to get to work early to let myself start at 730 or earlier. But he used to do that too. It gives me Monday's and Fridays free and lets me also hit yoga over a weekend class (like I plan to do this weekend).
I will also get pictures up too. I forgot to do that. But we survived.

Books I finished #7 Moon Spinners and now am about 40% through #8 Real Murders by Charlaine Harris. This is the first book in the Aurora Teagarden novels which I've watched all of the Hallmark Mystery Movies so I'm familiar with all of the characters. What I did not expect was the overly whiney woe is me I'm single from Aurora but I'm getting over it. All good....its schlocky and fun.
ianuk: (Default)
So I managed to sew a lot over the weekend. Not finished where I wanted to be cause everything took effing forever and then I nerfed things and then I was being picky and then....yeah. I also managed to make Benton a coat (still needs neckline binding, hems and a button loop). Which is good honestly. So things I need to finish by Thursday night:
1) hem on apron
2) straps on apron
3) trim on apron
4) hem on underdress
5) Finish Benton's coat
6) find yarn for travel knitting (mitts for Sir Justin)
7) Gather things for gift basket
8) Pack for trip to SC

Benton is off school today and I'm making him take down the tree and I will help him put things away. I have to pack the house lights away which is rearranging things in the laundry which is okay. Its just things I haven't gotten to and then am too tired to do. But I'm back in the sewing groove though and the featherweight needs to get a service...its skipping stitches. I pulled out my kenmore and after I oiled it its still kind of rough So when I finish things for the war I will take them in for service.

So I sewed, I slept and I read this weekend. I finished Iron Widow which was excellent. Fast paced and epic with giant robots and Chinese/Korean mythology and feminism. Its a wild ride. And the clincher at the end is oooh boi. Plus a very cute poly trio.

Now I have to pick a book to read and have books for travel so I will need to see what is on my Kindle queue and if I have paperbacks to travel. I only have hardcovers on my TBR by the bed right now. Those suck on airplanes.

While I'm tired and my shoulder hurt from hunching at my sewing machine I feel good and accomplished. This is good.

Have I made it to the gym or to yoga? No...I'm okay with that...the month before war is always nuts. I'm giving myself some grace.

50in2024 -
#1 Squirrel Girl Universe
#2 Iron Widow
ianuk: (bear)
So I relaxed a ton over the break and that was good for the brain. Talking with my counterpart at work on the performance side she was getting grouchy from over work and could tell once she got home and chilled. I was just exhausted and mentally not even there. Which isn't good in my line of work. But it was good to chill. I didn't get everything done as I had said but better mental health is better. So that is good.

On the mental health bandwagon of reading I managed 42.5 books in 2023 which was a half book down from my 2022 total.

I finished 2 Fuzzy, 2 Furious on the 17th of December and then read #42 which was Paladin's Faith by T. Kingfisher and then started the 43rd book which was Squirrel Girl Universe which I just finished last night. I think me slogging through the 1000 page book and then the 600+ page Enchantress when I should have chucked that book to the side didn't help me but its okay. I will be more choosey this year. I think I will start with Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao. She is a character and broke the book world with finding out of white author shenanigans against authors of color. See this article for more info. But its been recommended by Ed and others and I bought it. I'm also going to go through some comics since I have the entire House of M in hardcover. SO my TBR pile will go down. tee hee.

On the project front I made sure to poke some household folks that we were having arts at our house to get folks out of crafting slumps. I managed to get two necklines done...I will see if they fit today. Mel finished a black belt for kung fu and fixed his fancy belt. Po got her tunic hem recut with some tricks I showed her and then we all had time watching B. Dylan Hollis (she had never seen him OMG). So progress. I will be endeavoring to get the tree down tonight and put away. The weather has turned very cold for the desert and Mel finally got the heat on. it was 25 at the school when I dropped Benton off this AM. The northern house has lots of snow and cold. Brrr. We even had some snow that didn't stick on Sunday afternoon.

So Sunday was Southern War Practice and there was a Laureling and I got dressed in my boy clothes and my warm wool hood, my ducal coat and my cloak for a blustery time. Hung with Ari watching the fighting and getting some photos before we noped out and headed back to Tucson ( We were in Sierra Vista). We changed clothes and met back up for brunch and had a lovely time. I got home and wanted to sew but I was cold and tired and Spicy stole my soul for a nap on the couch. We all frolic'd in the snow while it lasted for a bit and then it was a nice evening of working on the fish hat (sewing in ends) and watching Star Wars Rebels.

I'm at work today and making use of my standing desk (same as I did yesterday at home so I can be more active during the day. Im also sporting a cute sweater dress, leggings and my low boots since the foot is finally allowing me to wear shoes that touch the ankle. Hallelujah! So, little things. I will be heading to the work gym to sign up today and next week I will start with some walking on the treadmill after work on Tuesdays. I hope to do yoga on Thursdays and Sundays and some stuff at home to keep with my mobility theme. Little steps forward.
ianuk: (batman)
Its been a few weeks and we attended Kingdom A&S Collegium and Competition. I taught my leather care class to one person but handed out a bunch more handouts. Had a nice princesses tea with the Roses. We spilled some good tea while drinking arnold palmers. Had great BBQ from Sir Suttons food truck and at Rudys. I stood way too much and was hurting by the end of the day. I tend to lean to the left naturally and that was not good. But I managed to do some knitting on the musselburgh hat and chat with friends. We also got to watch Master Balldrich get asked to enter the Order of the Laurel and that brings me joy. I will be speaking for him as a laurel at his ceremony.

We had a stressful week of work of finance crap I hate. I thought I was short $3M and its there just odd and yeah...so much annoyance. I was very stressed.

Benton stayed home from me day tripping Melee camp. I had spent Friday doing things with mom's estate and this is a mess with the land. Hopefully we can work it out after a new extensive site survey is done. Cause its going to either be reasonable or messy (like putting Jerry's will into contest). We shall see how my step siblings are about it.

I was given permission to start easing off boot usage. And I wore it Saturday for Melee camp cause that ground was hella uneven and then a chunk of Sunday when I made homemade eggplant DF parmesan with zoodles, and a cinnamon swirl zucchini bread. OMG. very tasty and it makes two loaves. I used one zucchini and we still had enough left over for mel to make fritters (use ritz crackers for the bread crumbs..so good) and still some left over. SO I gave one of the other zukes to my housekeeper.

I'm within an inch of starting the crown decreases on the hat. I've barely read and been playing a lot of games on my phone again. Its okay its what it is...I got a massive migraine on Sunday night at 1am. And I was down for the count for two days. I slept a lot and missed work and yeah. Not great. Probably stress, dehydration and weather change all combined. We got a huge set of storms come in on Tuesday. Spicy kept cowering from the thunder, running to the windows to yell at the rain and snuggle up on my chest. It was cute.

Today I'm at work. I wore the boot to walk in since its like 1/4 mile and then switched to my shoes. I've gone down the stairs just not up them yet. We shall see.

Wednesday was our 20th Wedding Anniversary, we've been to busy to do anything planned. Mel suprised me with Flowers and then suggested we head to dinner out as a family. We hit Sachiko Sushi for tasty noms. We got done and then the boys were in frantic pack mode for the Golden Dragon Tourney. They left in the van just after I left for work today and I will be all by my lonesome until Sunday night. Which will be nice. I have a one shot game with Erika doing D&D on Saturday. I have plans to pick up the house a bit and finish that hat. Enjoy some me time and just relax. I will probably do some work but most of that is dictated by some things going on today to make some new info going through. All good. Not as much stress.

So there were are...I'm still reading the Enchantress and its meh. I hope I can crank through that and move on to somethign on my active TBR.

so update...nuff said
ianuk: (laurel)
Well in the last two weeks things have settled a bit on the mental front. Work was a bit nuts due to finance stuff and my meeting with the bigwigs didn't go well. It wasn't my fault, we didn't have the correct data in time and punted. But we got things worked out while I was on vacation and now this week we will be doing the rest.

Can I state that not handling the kitchen and packing the kitchen stuff is such a nice thing? Seriously, easy to pack. We starting packing for war on Tuesday night at 630pm and finished at 11pm. That included me doing an ice run. We got out the door to on Wednesday AM at 640 and then to Ed's. got on the road just before 7. Mel drove Ed's truck and I drove the van with our trailer. The van is doing less well as I wanted. It has been throwing codes for misfires and we will be taking it in on Friday. It did not like hauling the trailer and having the AC on and trying to use cruise. So there is that. But the war.

With Ed and Candace not there it was a lot of setup on Wednesday. We have older folks and folks who are not able to do as much but we managed to get all of the tents up minus one late arrival by 5pm and then mel got new side rails for the fire pit made by the time dinner started. We all were pretty tired after that but had a nice fire. The rest of the war was good. Our space was tight. Like we didn't quite have enough space cause folks cant read a map. But its okay. We made it work. We had a very small courtyard, and only one firepit and we only had mead Thurs and Saturday night. Mel was too tired and went to bed at like 7pm. Lol. But he fought well and we all had a good time. It was nice to sit in the arts tent in camp and hang out doing crafts and chatting. I managed to get my new apron done, its basically a piece of linen and an old bit of tablet weaving that I put together to make an apron. Then [personal profile] lferion and I made some chain stuff to go with our things. I got a new bell and charm and found another duck votive to add to my votive chain. I got them all attached and could wear it. I also worked on my half gloves and got a bit of that done.

I didn't really watch any of the fighting or the tourneys, I went to the social for arts. I went to two baronial courts and skipped grand court. Dominique and Poe running kitchen went well. I'm very pleased.

Had some drama with Dom going missing and I searched all of he site and some folks in RV found him drunk and passed out. They got him water and got him back to camp and then his squire who was helping me look got him to his car and to my apprenitice to go to their air B&B. Wander and I put the fire out that night and it was like 1AM.

Still it was good.

Here are my photos:

Here is us taking a new member, Rook
ianuk: (don't wanna)
When last I wrote i was heading into the weekend for my Apprentice to graduate to the Laurel. I had a dress to finish, which I did on Thursday. It was finished enough to wear. I did not get the over the shoulder and sleeve seams hand finished but it was done enough to wear. I got clothes for Benton expanded/fixed to have things to wear. We got up early on Saturday and made our way to the event and it went really well even though my apprentice was almost late for her own ceremony. She had got to do her makeup at the start of court and they were super quick with all of the awards and I sent zoe to go get her. But it turned out well. Baron Master Sym did a wonderful presentation of what the ceremony is for and explained each part. We were able to cajole the Crown that they had nothing to do but say the oath. It worked well even though HRM tried to only nave folks stand for the candidate and my hubby said he would stand for the knights and speak for them as well. Which is his ducal prerogative. It was a busy day of art and chatting with people. We left after court and headed to Rudy's for BBQ. It was storming which was a weirdness for Phx considering September in Phx had more rain than Seattle. But yeah. It was strange. But almost all of Hrafnheim had dinner together. which was nice. We even got Deletha and the kids.

And other than sleeping in on Sunday the rest of the week was pants. Pants on fire.

Sunday night I got a call from mom's assisted living facility that her g-tube had fallen out. This is her feeding tube that we aren't really using much anymore but for end of life they may need to...so I took her to the emergecny room. We had a new hospital open up and they were very nice and they put in a foley (catheter) since they did not have g-tubes in stock. Monday morning it fell out again. We had it replaced. So I spent more time in the ER from Sunday to Monday than I did sleeping. So I struggle bussed the rest of the week and then was arguing with the oncologist about scheduling for them to install a g-tube. But they basically said that they would let it heal over if it fell out again. So Friday when it fell out I just told her caregivers to bandage it and keep an eye on it. Also during that week we had her PET scan. We went out for lunch to Millies Pancake Haus and she gorged herself on a full stack and most of a bottle of syrup. This woman is a humming bird.

Saturday was an event down in Sonoita. Surprise surprise there were speakers for the candidates...the queen loves to hear them. So that is a good thing. We attended for a laurelling of Mistress Eilith who was originally from Outlands and when she was Baroness of Citadel of the Southern Pass (El Paso), I gifted her my Grace as Queen. She had travelled and provided choral music and it brightened my day when I felt like pure ish. I had given it to her at Battlemore so her kingdom could see her awesomeness. So we were glad to see her get elevated.

Sunday was somewhat relaxing but more tiring. Mel left on business and Benton and I needed to get some chores. I was done by the time we got back from the grocer but it was okay. Mel landed safely in Utah and I got a nice evening.

Monday was a Monday and then it was way more of a Monday after the call from the oncologist. I had read teh PET scan report on Saturday and while it looked dire I didn't read it the way he did. Its not that I don't trust him, I just didn't see it as bad as it is. Re-reading it and previous reports...yeah its bad. Even two months ago he mentioned hospice care but this conversation it was "we are stopping treatment immediately
and start hospice care" He stated it was days to weeks left for her to live. While that may not be the complete case...shes under 100 pounds and is weak and her memory is going so this is the beginning of the end. We knew the caner was winning. Just weren't sure when we'd be in the last quarter. I guess its now.

I called and told Mel and when they were on the way home by plane his boss said he was to take the next day off to take care of me and Benton. I was just going to handle things by myself which is so not the right answer at all. I was glad she said that and I took the day as well. Had a meeting with the assisted living staff, told mom the news, got hospice care set up so at least that part is handled. Its going to a be a slow grind until its not. I'm just exhausted...can't seem to concentrate well or sleep enough. Probably drinking too much but meh. Honestly. I'm not getting drunk.

It better news I managed to finish the #35 book which is Saints and Sinners by Jennifer Roberson, I also started and finished #36 Susan Vowell's The Partly Cloudy Patriot...omg the corrallary between the 2002 election and now and Trump and stuff was fucking eerie. History does repeat...wow.

Now I'm in #37 for the year which is Quantum of Nightmares by Charlie Stross. Back in the New Management series. I like some of the characters but not all of them. But its still a trip. I'm about half way through. Next on the docket...I'm uncertain. We shall see how this one ends if I read the next one right away.

But that is life in a nutshell...pretty sucky.

Mom's birthday was happy and disheartening. For those of you in IG I posted pictures of her and if you compare them to pictures August 20th you can see how skelatal she looks. Covid did its best to kill her and even her oncologist has lost any spunk with here which I think is poor beside manner honestly. But she's so weak she couldn't walk the whole way to his office from the closest parking spot. I had to get a wheel chair. But she enjoyed her Squishmallow cat I got her and that was good. I made sure she had donuts and then just kinda am numb and sad with her. Its hard. Had to have some frank conversations with Mel on what we do next.

With things being dismal and dealing with work personnel issues have been rough. Have a lead who just can't deal with things in a sane manner. Back talks, has delusions of grandeur about their own importance and just can't take instruction. We've failed to get this lead to deal with how we do things and they are a micromanager. Well, the weekend proved their downfall and if you are going to shoot yourself in the foot, make sure your boss is on copy. just saying. Now we have lots of repercussions but that is better to deal with than before and my morning was rosy and bright and not stressful even though I have a ton of work today.

So the weekend was busy with SCA stuff. We had crown tourney and only had 2 in the house fighting and none of them serious enough to worry about winning. But we made a good show. I brought out my bar for Ukranian Mules and G&T's and made sure folks had drinks (even N/A ones). It was a great success and I'm well pleased with my setup. The only thing I need to add to it is an ice pick. I used our ice bucket for ease and kept things sanitary with a scoop and it was really nice. Plus I got to introduce folks to good ingredients (Ryoku, Hendricks Orbium, Khor Vodka and Ritual Gin alternative). Plus good tonic and gingerbeer from fevertree as well as fresh squeezed lime juice and the lazy trick of Simply Limeade for other drinks.

It was bonkers hot for us though...oof. 103 and barely a breeze on Sunday. Saturday wasn't too bad. Even though I had fixed my peplos dress the fabric is too thick for that kind of heat and I wore and older dress from my first reign that I've since made short sleeved. The Saturday I wore my dark teal dress which Anya made...super light linen as well.

Anyhoo, I drank and knit and chatted with folks in our tent and only ventured out to watch the finals with the rest of the Roses. Courts were too short for 3 peerages IMHO and then it was home each day without issue. Sunday though I was so hot and tired, I took a shower and passed out for a few hours during which Benton lost 2 more teeth. So that is 3 teeth in two weeks...which is still a larger time span than my 4 molars in two days when I was his age.

Jackie did come out all 39 weeks preggers and socialized for about an hour or so. Her family and 3 false labor scares are making her crazy. I'm glad I didn't go through that with Benton. It was I'm pregnant and then I was just BAM in labor.

But it was good to see people and chat and work out some things for the scroll...though that may get pushed sideways due to my mentor/help is getting knee surgery. But I think we can make it work. I also had a very shocking spark of muse for my dress for my Apprentices elevation especially after she convinced the crown to make it a performance piece during the performing arts section of A&S. It will be short but lively and explanatory for the audience. Plus everything that she wants which makes us happy and it a bit of malicious compliance on our parts. I'm all about malicious compliance which brings me to my muse stating I need to make a Slytherin colored laurel dress for the ceremony. I have the black linen and I will be ordering some more green silk for the placard, I have plenty left over trim from Becca's coat in other greens to do some matchy fun. We shall see. But the muse is awake and cranky and wants me to look pretty so yeah. I need to order more silk...oh noes! But one of them is ectoplasm for the color which just makes me happy.

On the book front I'm really enjoying #33 The Enchantment Emporium. I really like the family dynamic and if you like the Fey wacky relationships. Some people are freaked out by that, I'm not. Its been interesting is and that is what I need right now. After this I have some Charlie Stross Laundry files to read so that will be less enjoyable maybe? We shall see.

The last two weeks have been busy with appointments with mom and SCA work. I had a scribal assignment that needed to to be done for Coronation. I don't do the hand the piece was based on and had to practice and get my hands to do a square quadrata. Then I find out that the person who did the amazing illumination had been callig'ing in a totally round batarde hand. Bitch! you sent me the expemplar! I matched it! We had a good laugh. Luckily she is a dear friend and was tickled I was trying to make her scroll look even more on point. But its a lesson for me that I can learn new things and to ask the right questions. It was a really nice weekend minus a few weird things.

I had planned to drive up on Friday night that way we had a 20 min drive to site versus 2.5 hours. This was a really good plan and we used the nice box lady to help us not get stuck in a huge traffic collision on I10. Then Saturday was nice, we got to site, had help getting things setup and it was just a nice day of hanging with the hosuehold peeps and watching some fighting and chatting and drinking and me working on putting trim on the last tunic I have. Got that done just as the crown was stepping down and then we had a step up court in not enough light....this was planned poorly. And then the new King wanted another Knight's circle. I have an 11 year old, its 730 at night and we didn't leave site until almost 9pm. Luckily things got packed and loaded and mel just had to pick up his stuff. We could leave tents up overnight so we just got things set and home. Benton got a shower while I hit MOD for pizza and then I got a shower. I was so dirty but so glad that I wore my greek on a hot and dry day. I looked good and was cool. So late night. By the time I got to bed the boys were both snoring. Benton had spent all day playing with kids on the play ground and the field to the side and being an awesome kiddo with all of the little kids. We had two sets of different parents that told us how awesome he was. Makes me proud of my kiddo.

Sunday we slept in and then hit site...we weren't planning on spending the whole day but we did. Rook was there fighting and Dominique came back out and we had a wonderful falconer named Ysabel and her Harris Hawk Oscar who sat with us while I worked on my reign hood which now finally has the seams finished and the hem done. Now I need to make the thin trim for the edges and do the embroidery. I have a plan, it will be slow but nice handwork for courts and the like. I did get called to be stunt signet since Sam didn't show and we needed names on scrolls etc. I did it but was a bit annoyed I didn't get told it was my job that day. I'm fine doing it but my quick kit was really poor on supplies. I need to get things set for travel again. But it was fun to sit with our principal herald and get some information. This new crown will be interesting. Mark was crown a long time ago and things have changed (for good and bad) so some things will have to be adapted for them. Our Queen is new to this society having only starting coming out during my last reign. The roses are stepping up to help her so I need to see what else we can do.

We got packed up and headed to Rudy's for dinner. Rook had never been and he was very happy to have a new place to know has good food. We then got home about 830pm. We still need to take tents out of the van but personal stuff is done. But man we are all tired from the weekend. Made my monday really hard

I finished book book 13: McLaurin's Lady. Started and finished Book 14: Spirits of New Orleans and started Number 15: All Systems Red by Wells. I'm liking murderbot.
ianuk: (crow)
Finally after 722 days our crown stepped down. We left Tucson with the boy after school let out and then drove to Prescott Valley for dinner at Brian's pub. It was good food and the pumpkin beer was the best I've ever had. They did a cinnamon and sugar rim on the glass...OMG. We stayed at the Holiday Inn per usual and they have updated their rooms since we were there last and that was nice. Got up and to site on Saturday on time and got the tent up between Mel and I and a hand from Tati and Mingo. Then it was like hurry up to do scroll things (drop off) and see people. Court was nice and it was there that I presented Wolgrim's scroll. Here is a picture of me lofting the 44.2 lbs of rune stone up while Wander read the scroll text.

It was very well received. I sent a picture to Wolgrim on the Discord and he was aghast. I let it sit at the A&S display with my 1 page of documentation, 1 page of bibliography pictures and the 1 page of transliteration.

I'm super proud of this project. Like super proud. This is my magnum opus right now.

Here is the full album of start to finish of the scroll (click the picture).

After that and chatting with folks at A&S I was kinda overwhelmed and sat in our shade and sewed trim on my tunic for the next day. It was relaxing and what I needed. Mel had fun fighting and didn't push and still made it into the top 12. Then it was a wait and chat and take things down before sunset court. It was nice, the weather was cool and the only real issue is that this is the off season so all of the local places close for food at 8pm and were booked by when we left site at 730. We made do with Sonic and headed back to the hotel for showers and an early bed. Benton was worn the eff out. He played hard all day long and when he woke up the next morning he was so sore. Poor kiddo. Growing is hard. The amount of people who couldn't believe how big he had gotten in the 19 months since they last saw him was funny. There were folks who hadn't seen him in longer since we had a lot of out of town guests from the outlands/artemesia. Got to see Nikki, Casca & Melissa, Cecilia, Bela, Gabe, Elanor Peregrine, Abby and Kaz, and Helga.

Sunday we slept in a bit and then got to site to hang out in teh shade. We did not set up the tent just set up under the trees which was just fine. Hung out with Olrun and Dominique while I tried to get my knitting project back on track (I failed), so I spun. We left site at 2pm after mel had his fill of fighting melee and then got stuck in traffic on the I17. It took us 3 hours to get down the mountain when it usually takes 1.5. Ugh. But we made it to Rudy's BBQ and had early dinner. Then it was a quick 1.5 hours home.

We were tired when we got home but unloaded all of the needed stuff and then it was an other early bedtime. All in all a good weekend. Now its time to pack for NOLA.
ianuk: (Default)
When last I wrong almost a month a go. Things were progressing at work on things, the porch project had progress and my shawl was back on track. The now status is the last month has been busy and so short! Well, On the reading front. I finished #17 Mortal Danger which was a re-read from a long time ago and it was fun. I think read #18 Squirrel Girl and the Great Lakes Avengers which is comic pack of all of the SG and the GLA. So much fun in that...OMG. Then I started #19 Blood Lines by Eileen Wilkes and that is been okay thus far. I've been sucked back into some really long fanfic.

Mel and I managed to get packed and rolling to GWW with only forgetting one thing and that was the banners. Oops but of all of the things to forget that was one of very minimal impact on our enjoyment of the war. Lol. We took a very different route than we used to and it did not involve crawling up the I5 for hours. It was nice and through country we haven't seen before. It went up the 215 and then onto back highways to meaner north and west to the I5 which we were on for like 15 miles. It was nice. Found out our site with Gullibursti was in the same spot we always camp. The rest of Atenveldt was over on the other side. It was nice and having flushing potties and sinks right next to us was awesome. Well, the ladies had that. The men's room was out of order and they had a priv and handwash station. I brought projects to work on and money to spend and that was my plan. We had a really nice time camping with Roger and Rochelle. Their new little storage trailer with integral kitchen was super neat. Our camp was nice and period looking and just cozy. Without the banners folks couldn't find us but meh, it works okay.. It was so nice to sit and chat with people. I hit up the fiber area and taught Rochelle to spin. The class lists weren't much of anything I wanted to learn or didn't know and that was okay as well. I bought a new necklace from Maggie that has period beads in it. We got trim and things at White Wolf and Phoenix. I picked up a few pairs of earrings from Mistress Morgan and just a lot of other things. We had breakfast and lunch in camp and then hit merchants for dinner. The meat pie vendor...OMG.from Oscar's Meat Pies and wow. We ate a lot of them.

I managed to help marshal the field and castle battles on Saturday. We were there for Bjorn's knighting and they were short marshals and well, I'm authorized and can marshal its all good. It was a good time and very weird being on the Caid side of things. I did get to yell at my husband for fighting around a corner and explain very nicely to archers that no, you can't fire across the field in the direction they were since it was into spectators.(head desk). The scenarios were not complex we just had to remember when archery was and the shooting conventions. Keeping it simple which I really like. Sat and chatted with lots of folks and just enjoyed being at an event with no responsibilities and no requirements to do anything. It was so good. I put in 4 hours for marshalling and then handed my volunteer tickets to a newcomer who was there to find out about the auction. :)

All of my photos are at 2021 GWW Album

I had fun with some night photography and just in general had a nice time.

Got back and the porch project is now done except for minor cleanup and painting. Woot! I did have a very down week though last week. Not sure if it was allergies (fuck california) and the let down of fun times or hormonal or moon stuff or mercury being mercury? but I was off last week. Better now but still annoying cause I was doing good before that. So we shall see how this week goes.

Coronation is Saturday and we drive to Prescott Friday. Should be a good time.
ianuk: (baroness)
I had a 3 day work week followed by a 3 day weekend....so that was nice.  Friday I managed to finally slay the laundry hydra and put everything away! We also pre-packed for the event on Saturday and since it was just us for heads of house going we had a bit to pack.  With changes with Parks and rec we had to do Pop-up palooza to get things set and well, we tried to not look like ass.  I had a wonderful 1.5 hour massage and had managed to do strength club and HIIT this week for 2 days.  Saturday we got up early and got things going. Benton was an absolute PITA while we were packing up. We had to keep kicking him out of places we needed to be.  I think he was sad he wasn't going but he was going to hang with Skyler and play in the pool. Honestly , he had more fun and was cooler.

So I mixed up 2 gallons of margaritas, two 5 gallon coolers of icewater for our crewe.  It was about 103-104 without any breeze..Ugh. But it is what it is and we had an event. We got to see lovely people get awards, I did not craft...I was too hot to think of yarn.  I only took a few photos...it was just too hot.  I spoke for Sam with Ivan as Laurel.  Her Pelican ceremony was nice and funny and not too long.  Me and Mingo and Mel were at the back and some of the last to speak...it was fun.  Count Thomas became a Lamp of Ysgithr and Sir Wolgrim was made premier of the Baron's Tusk (baron's thank you). So good day for Hrafnheim...but once court was done everyone started packing up and we were off site by 2ish.  Got home and unloaded.  I peeled down to my shift since it was so hot and I was covered....all good.  Got showers and hung out with Wander and Jackie for the rest of the afternoon.  We got wings from Wings over Broadway (place next to my gym) and had a really nice night.  I went to bed at 945pm I was done.  I slept for over 10 hours.

Sunday we got up and had coffee and then got a few things off the house to do list.  We had bought new wall sconces and the outdoor light.  And like any home improvement process I ended up having to mod one of the brackets.  Now if I'd been smart I'd have gone out to the shop and used the Foredom but I forgot we had it.  So I used a hand crank drill and a metal file.  It worked just took me a bit.  The porch light was hot wired so it can't be turned off...which honestly, isn't a big deal just caught us by surprise.  The old light had a sensor for on and off so we think our former friend who did that work just hot wired it so we could control the carport lights separately.  Its an LED and barely uses any power so I'm not concerned with it being on all of the time.  With that done we got the mess of boxes and styrofoam cleared out of the front room, I brushed cats cause OHBOY did they need that and then I decluttered the entire front room minus Mel's desk area.  I then figured out our unused folding dinning chairs can fit two inside the closed gateleg table and the other three got put under the piano since I cleaned that all out.  Mel took the work monitor we didn't use back to work today and that freed up a bunch of space.  Then I vacuumed and straightened up and reframed our Thegn and Bannethegn scroll.  So on the 29th when Elena comes to clean she can do the dusting and deep cleaning work.  YAY!

I was tired after that and we had dinner and then I tackled my craft crap that had accumulated by the side of the couch. I got it all yarn put where it needed to go. only have the active projects in my basket and moved a tote to my studio.  I found once ball of yarn the moths got to and they had shredded it.  So Its okay. I made the hat with that yarn and that was the leftovers and an okay sacrifice.  After I got that all settled I sat down to crochet on my shawl while mel wove and we are now 3/4 of the way through season 3 of clone wars.  Our goal is to get that finished up here in the next few weeks. I also finished the 15th book of 2021 which was Tempting Danger by Eileen Wilkes. I had read this and the next one before now but I'm rereading them so I can read the next 3 in the series....but tomorrow the latest October Daye book hits my Kindle App so we shall see what I start reading tonight.

I have the scroll commission for the knight scrolll to finish and I hope it cools down enough for me to work on that soon. I hope to do that a bit this weekend but I may drag it indoors  to add the text in sharpie first before I go back to carving.  Its Runes so not difficult except yanno, carving it.  But that is the last thing to do.  I think I will bring it in tonight so I can get the text on and then get carving slowly over the weekend.  I really want it done before coronation.  It was super nice to have the house looking good.  It makes the brain weasels happy.

Well back to the slog.
ianuk: (caw!)
I taught at a very small kingdom collegium this past Saturday of my Top 10 Books Class. The collegium was small due to lack of advertising and the staff not really being communicative. I'm going to make a nicely worded email about it but when we had hundreds at the same event the year before and like 15 people this year...that is an issue. Time to be a good peer with good critique.

So, it was nice that I got to sit and chat with Kaye who moved to Britain a long time ago now and I knit and chatted and shared info where I could. Benton and Skylar were having a play date and were very happy to let me sit on a Zoom while they played video games. Lol. They did really good though and I got changed into my normal clothes and then back to the studio to watch my videos and knit. Once Skylar left with Bonus Ari and Paul content. I got to play Graveyard Keeper until dinner. Mel got home and relaxed and I continued to play. Which was nice.

Sunday was knitting and gaming and we attempted to get BB-8 and the girls to meet...which didn't go well. We laughed and BB8 hid under the piano while the girls were locked up. Lol.

The previous day with Ari was cause she dropped off Cornish Pasty Co food for us and that is what Sunday dinner was and it was lovely. We've been going through watching Clone Wars...still going to be weeks before we finish but that is okay. Wow, we still didn't need Jar Jar ever...seriously. But its been good.

This week I've decided I'm switching things out from HIIT to weight lifting. I hit weight night last night which was shoulders and arms. Wednesday will be legs and I plan to do HIIT Thursday and Saturday. So that is my plan. We shall see how it goes. I can lift when I'm having allergy issues if my energy is up. So that is good.

I'm now reading "Will my cat eat my eyeballs" which is delightful and fluffy. So that is also good.
ianuk: (crafts)
Friday I worked the POD and had a good time since it was Poe and I. It wasn't as warm as Easter Sunday where I got a very nasty sunburn on my shin.  Its still healing btw.  But it was nice and there was a breeze and it was great working with someone I really know.  I got a shower when I got home and relaxed in one of my new dresses from Target.  Saturday I had to get up early and get SCA dressed for me teaching at 8am. Ugh time zones.  Seriously...ugh. but I taught my beads of the North class and then I taught my top 10 books class.  It was nice and then I took classes on:
tidal water wheels in period
how to travel upon snow and ice the period way
a beginner's class on rectangular construction (yes I know this info but I wanted to see how someone would teach this and it was cool)
Making beads from birka and Ribe which I've taken at another collegium but that was cool to see if again as she's making beads in real time
Norse clothing and the lack of evidence in grave finds by my former BFF Cecilia

I then made a nice over baked porch chops dinner and relaxed with Benton while mel finished his shift at the POD.  He got his second vaccine which didn't really hit him until the next day.

It was a nice day though.  I knit and chatted with my SIL on text while we were in some of the same classes and got to chat with Cecilia on text as well catching up on things and chatting about the Pskov grave find.  It was a nice night.  We all went to bed early-ish and that was good.  I got up on Sunday and got coffee on a shake in me and then made sure Mel was taken care of...he was feeling fine but tired.  I gave blood, picked up breakfast burritos and then back to teh house.  Mel was still tired and I could see he was loosing steam, he napped off and on all afternoon in between video games and baking bread. He slept through time to put the roast on for dinner but it made great leftovers for Monday.

Benton and I made necklaces since all of my bead stuff was out.  He looked at all of what I had and chose things he liked and played with the patterns and then he strung it up. The only thing I did was put the clasps on since that is fiddly and I use professional grade crimp stuff.   I made 1 period-ish necklace and then 2 modern ones and then laid out 2 more for myself to finish up on monday.  Which I did along with working on the scroll commission for about 20 mins. My motor control for that skill set was a bit weak though so I didn't get too far but far enough.

so I've been crafty and that has been super nice.  I'm glad to be back in a groove for a while.  Been trying to eat better, drink less booze, drink more water and just go to bed when tired.

ianuk: (baroness)
I've had a week out since I realized that drug interactions were making me miserable and things are better....still took a bit and I've had some lingering effects.  My allergies are...okay. I've had to hit my rescue inhaler more but I'm okay.  Didn't hit the gym and that was sad for me. I needed the rest on Saturday.  Benton and I hung out and watched TV. I missed my collegium telecon due to me and them not listing time zones correctly.  MST is not MDT ya'll.  Ugh.  But it was okay.  I also realized that my classes I've been teaching lecture style...should probably have slides.  So I spent part of Monday getting them translated to slides. I will still send out the updated handouts but the slides will be good for talking points.  I'm used to doing this for work so its not that hard of transition I just feel dumb that I haven't thought of it until now. Lol.

I teach 8-19am on Saturday at the Outlands Collegium. The classes will be recorded so that will be good. I now need to get my books pulled and my beads pulled.

I worked the POD on Sunday and managed to get sunburned a bit. I did reapply but I missed the back of my left calf and the front of my right shin?  So I have fun tan lines.  I will make sure to use my rub in stuff on Friday first and then use the spray to layer protection.  I had to dig shorts out cause it was 95F.  I also was standing on asphalt road running traffic so reflection was a thing.  Got home exhausted but felt good.  I got a shower and cooled down and then sat on the couch like a lump. Mel made us a nice dinner of roast beef, turnips and green beans with a great gravy.  I had an early night and my sunburn wasn't sore at all really. I notice it a bit on my calf but not really, it looks way worse than it feels.

My brain is back on working almost normal? I feel the energy and motivation to do more than sit and read which is good. I hope to get back to my shawl and the scroll work this weekend.  I work the POD on Friday, Teach Saturday and then Sunday give blood so probably knitting...I do want that shawl done for my birthday but I think that is too much.  Its not half way yet.  Such tiny yarn and my hands do not like that...or its the cotton...not sure. But I could also just make a hat to go with the cowl I just made...its squishy and has a matching hat....we shall see. Its not really accessories season now but I still like handwork.  Course I have baby gifts to do as well.  Sighs.  Need to finish that damn commission.

So everything is better and we have a plan for Family dinner on May 7th which is going to be awesome.

ianuk: (device)
I finished my CCC project with TIME TO SPARE!!!!!!!!! WOOOHOOOOO!!!!

This was not me sitting in my car the morning of the event sewing on loops for buttons after doing a 22 hour straight sewing binge and having the crown calling me incessantly to finish up. This was me working a few hours a day and getting things done on a schedule and finishing up the night before just after dinner and then taking my time to style a photo shoot and hand in the documentation and edited photographs.

Super fun and super comfy though I was getting hot sitting in the sun. It was 63F and we didn't have a lot of wind so warm but I love it. I felt very fancy and its all entered and ready for judging.

This is gonna be a photo heavy post so:

I'm working and working on the dress. I made really good progress on seam finishing. I have just the items around the sleeve to do. I did the same on the other side on Tuesday so I should be able to do that tonight after the gym. Yes, I'm going dammit. I didn't Tuesday and that was more mental health related. I'm okay with that. Just trying not to make that a habit.

So Friday I have "off" but I have volunteered for a Leadership thing for work which is in the morning. I'm going to sit and sew during it and they can cope. So if all goes Well I will be at hems on Friday night since friday day will be the hem silk and attaching all of the tablet weaving. Course I realize I may just bind the hem...hmmmm....decisions. Two birds, one stone and all that.

I will chat with the brain trust and figure it out.

I woke up this AM with a stoopid headache from crunching up while sewing...so I'm sure it is that. And its been stoopid windy and the weather change but its really probably just sewing.

This past weekend was the mid-year virtual KWHSS. I only found out about it the previous weekend at Aten 50 year from a household member. When we were chatting. So I attended classes and social time and learned quite a few things. During all of that I worked on my CCC entries. I got the hat done. Its drying from blocking. The dress....well [personal profile] danabren was right...don't cut out things while drunk. Now the cutting was find but I didn't double check any math and that was past me's problem. But I sewed the dress and it was skin tight.....not what you need for layer 3 over your boobs and fluffiness. So, I set it aside on Saturday night and knit during the last few classes. Sunday I got up and took more classes (one on making parchement) and did measurements, chatted on text with the arts crewe and cut whole new larger and longer gussets. Then I moved up the goes to match the added width since I had cut them long to start with due to the math error. It now fits. Yay! Though mel was confusing me by saying it was too big...he though I wanted it super fitted. Honey, its going over a pleated underdress...I need the room!

The apprentice is awesome and picked up tasty meat vittles at Forbes Butcher shop. They are super good (spendy though) but I used their bacon to make a diary free carbonara. the bacon while fatty crisped up perfectly and didn't have extra water content. It was worth it for that alone I think. But the dairy free parmesan I grated is perfect (brand is Violife Parm Wedge). I modified the Alton Brown recipe in his latest cookbook for breakfast carbonara. Tasty. Also since it was fresh cured bacon we actually needed to add salt. That was bizarre. So good. 10/10 I'm making it again.

After I made dinner I was on the West Kingdom Scriptorium Zoom. That was nice. Got to chat with folks from all over and talk through different ways to do stuff. Everyone learns differently and for me square hands are hard. I had Palmer method writing drilled into me for decades so I can't switch well. So, its okay. Had a nice time honestly and worked on my dress and got 1.5 seams hand finished. So all good. I will be trying to stop by there more. I need the influence to scribe more and I have commissions to work on anyway. My scribal supplies and my sewing machine are just staring at me right now shoved to the side of the desk. Sighs.

I also gave blood yesterday and for the first time in a really long time it hurt. And I got woozy later. So I think I was dehydrated so that is a thing. I've been slamming water a lot.

So this week I have to finish the dress and then get gussied up in the full ensemble for nice daylight pictures which means try to finish by friday so I can get things to the dry cleaner and then me in it. Hopefully I can accomplish this but oof lots of work. I can do it. Plus I have Friday off though I have a volunteer thing for work but its on zoom so I can sit and sew.

The other things we did do was unpack and setup the new tiffany lamps we bought. Trying to keep up with the 1920s aesthetic and they are so nice. course now I have a mix of compact fluorescent bulbs which have yellow light versus the LED which are white light. I will be changing things out for better light quality. We do want to replace the ceiling lights in the front room and the kitchen with tiffany style but need to pick one.

Well, I slept good last night though it took me a while to get out of bed this morning. The weather is changing and reading about my friends in Alaska and California without power due to winds and knowing that the weather is heading our way by tomorrow after noon. So my brain is doing the "sleepy snuggly" thing with me in a freshly washed bed. (I did bed laundry yesterday and that just makes sleepy so nice on fresh sheets and blankets).

But I got up and am now trying to plan my day. Yesterday was good. I had energy. Benton took the ornaments off the tree and we got it fully taken down and boxed up before dinner. After dinner mel helped me with Tetrising the closets the xmas stuff goes into and then I hopped on the Southern Scriptorium Monday night zoom. Its our 20th year now of being a scriptorium. Also, yesterday was 25 years together for mel and I...our dating anniversary. So that is also nice. It was also a Monday in 1996.

During scribble we had more folks on who were there to art and chat which was nice. I got the neckline on my dress tacked down with tiny whip stitches. Tonight I need to put away laundry and work on the dress or hat. We shall see how I am after hitting the gym. Cause yes, I'm going. Even if I'm tired.

Trying to keep this momentum up cause the deadline is in two weeks. Yikes!
